A local engineer attempted (he never received acknowledgement) to share his idea to redevelop Speightstown with Prime Minister Mia Mottley.
To quote the engineer:-
Back in the early 1980s I was part of a team tasked with putting together a redevelopment plan for Speightstown. This was during the construction of the hotel at Heywoods. At the time HB “Bree” St John was the minister of tourism and the driving force behind the project. Sadly, the prime Minister (Tom Adams) passed away and Bree became Prime Minister. The project never got any further than on paper.
In early 2018 I tried to recreate the project based on my recollections with some changes. The attached document has been developed based on this.
In early 2018 I would have tried to get a copy to the current prime Minister but don’t know if she ever received it. We need to seriously look at this or a similar redevelopment project for the north of the island.
