Strange thing is going  on in our market place. Since the event of the pandemic (still here going strong) the Third World has suffered along with the rest of us. Many 1st World Corporations had previously imported trillions of dollars from Asia, Africa and elsewhere, and this domestic, catastrophic strategy destroyed the manufacturing sector in the Americas, EU and elsewhere. No bother to these corporations who placed profits above the livelihoods and security of their neighbors, providing products that could easily be made domestically, although more costly. The manufacturing mills of China pay peanuts to their employees, while the employee by western manufacturers is paid much more. Historically the owners of many manufacturing firms paid their employees well, with the hope that these men and women would buy their products. A prosperous middle class developed. Then during a five year period after WW2 firms began to build, purchase or partner with Japanese, Chinese and other foreign firms with the intent of building what is needed cheaply.

This innovation created a plantation style economy offshore. During the 14-15th centuries Portugal and then Spain developed a system of exploitation in Africa, using Africans to mine African gold and other resources. This was the 1st establishment of the plantation, a place where Africans and other slaves were forced to harvest their continents wealth while Europeans reaped  the rewards of their exploited labor. Africans were chattel for the Europeans. Chattel means possession, and Africans had become nothing more to the Europeans than that of cattle. What are cattle, but things to be raised and later butchered, get it? The plantation system incorporated this concept of ownership. While the average life span of a slave was 5-7 years, the slave was allowed to sire children, who immediately became possessions owned by the plantation. Years later the British would introduce this concept to their possessions in Barbados and later Jamaica. Huge plantations through out these two colonies produced items like sugar, to be trades internationally. Since the Europeans of the time had picked Africans as the go to slave population, a dehumanizing system of trade developed transporting millions across the ocean to their enslavement and ultimate demise. Racism at its finest.

Now to the present, where business people in the west applied the same method of exploitation to their economic needs. China is a dictatorship with a huge population, while India was the bread basket of the world, poor and open to financial exploitation (remember they were a British Colony). So the plantations of the day were established in China, India and elsewhere, a system upheld by nationals allied to the capitalistic principal that money rules the world. Profit placed over the betterment of their national population. China has many millions of people liken to chattel, working to survive. China has a working prison labor force of fifteen million +. If they should die, their internal organs are harvested and sold to the highest bidder. If your a Muslim in China, be prepared for an extra dose of oppression and colonial manipulation. India is in many ways no better. A place where employee’s have no real rights. A place where entire village populations are driven from their ancestral homes and the homes bulldozed so a mall or manufacturing plant can be constructed. The corruption of officials in India assures corporate profits are placed above the betterment of the Indian population.

History seems to exist in a cycle, where the system of exploitation of the weak will always reappear. The system of the plantation seems to simply evolve, while humanity shown for others does not evolve. The torture, manipulation and subjugation of entire populations continue to this day. People want their cheap phones, trinkets and such and are willing to turn a blind eye to the obvious, that our selfish needs are more important than the lives of those blind to us, not seen, those who toil with little or no pay making things of no real consequence.

In the 17th century, slavery created the great empires of the day, Great Britain, France, Portugal and Spain. Trillions of dollars flowed from Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America to Europe. The magnificent building of these nations, their cathedrals and buildings of Historic meaning are All Covered in the Blood of Africans and Latinos(Brazilians). When can the ghosts of the plantation be allowed to speak? The Holy Roman Catholic Church is stained  in the Blood of Aboriginal Peoples in the America’s, Africa, Australia and the Caribbean. The very existence of what The EU symbolizes today, a wealthy union, is a result of this exploitation, great wealth centered in colonial populations, away from those who worked and died to achieve this historic goal.

China and India continue the plantation system with the exploitation of their excess populations. China has become the newest form of colonial power, the very thing Communists claim to oppose. China does not have a Communist Government, but rather a group of feudal lords allied to corporate elitists through out the globe. The Communist Party is the slave masters of China’s plantation system.

“The conquered roam free in the box of insanity” wrote T.F. Hodge. Are we all complicit in the existence of present day plantations of pain? Do we allow our expectations and desires to build up and maintain  this form of economic and human savagery? Is the existence of present day plantations our doing, and what are we prepared to do about it?

@David, politics as a human endeavor is completely about how to manage the plantation or said otherwise about what “bribes” the electorate accept as beneficial and which ones they disdain. We have been ‘bribed’ by Mia quite wonderfully in the last few years (VAT forgiveness for example) and coupled with the disdain shown to the other party and its leaders she has been wholeheartedly accepted thus far!

No different up north. This latest political ploy student debt forgiveness is as ‘defective’ to many (myself included) as it is ‘compelling’ for many other progressives. But let us not get too snobbish about ‘issues over in away’ when we have a ‘Student Revolving Loan’ program which also has several delinquent borrowers now holding well paying jobs who are indifferent about servicing their loan obligations.

Debt forgiveness is wonderful for the debtor but painful for those who sweated blood and tears to fulfill their promises and it can anger those who were never even able to get in the door to fill out a loan application for advanced studies or for their small business idea … no wonder so many Bajans and others up north too adopt a an attitude that they want their “forgiveness” too and seek any and all methods to ‘game’ the system to their benefit.

    C’est la vie!

The politics is about political parties and political actors doing all to maintain popularity even if it conflicts with national imperatives. The blogmaster is not as gullible as sone who froth daily on the blog.

Thankfully I was no Bajan scholar but partied hard in the University of Life.
I skipped lectures and crammed for a couple of weeks memorising other students photocopied notes.

Debt forgiveness is the game, and from every angle. It generates wide support, again from many angles.
Think of it as yctpurknab. That’s bankruptcy backwards. Same thing, different method.

  9. I first put out the details about Garment Manufacturing wages in Third World in public domain about 10 years ago to highlight the exploitation by Western Companies who put out contracts for factories to place bids to make millions of items per month at less than $1 per item which they sell for extortionate profits in West. These factories outbid each other and costs are brought down lower.

Babylon spies picked up on this with a new trope about how East is undercutting West, totally twisting the original message I put out to the world. The different standards of life currency differences and poverty in poor countries was no accident it was by design by the Capitalist Swine.

  10. Socialism, Communism and Fascism are all slavery in one form or another.

The plantation was an early version of the state and was an experiment in socialism.

Slaves received food, housing, clothing and health insurance from the plantation/state from cradle to grave.

    But there was a problem.

The plantation/state had to be subsidized by capitalism, in the case of Barbados, trade.

Karl Marx got his ideas for Marxism from the plantation.

What better way than to create a state to which all were bound and which a small minority held control.

Karl Marx then reimagined the plantation and took the concept further, added the concept of mass exterminations and created the horror we have today.

Many lost their children along the way.

    SOLD!

What a wonderful life! Surely the slaves had everything they needed.

Except FREEDOM, which even the ANIMALS crave above all else!

It UPSETS every time this despicable guy John, who is a DESCENDANT of the white plantation owners, come to this forum attempting to ROMANTICIZE slavery and convince Black people the plantation system was beneficial to Africans brought to Barbados as slaves…………when, in ACTUALITY, the ONLY PERSONS who BENEFITED were those of his ilk.

The reality is, slaves were REGARDED as CHATTEL, or PROPERTY, SIMILARLY to the ANIMALS owned by the plantation, RATHER than ‘LEGAL’ HUMAN BEINGS.
And, animals were similarly taken care of by the plantation “from cradle to grave,” the only difference being, the animals were held in higher when compared with Africans.

He reminded me of an article I read, in which it was mentioned that a working group of nine educators, including a professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, in what could only be DESCRIBED as an ATTEMPT to ‘WHITE WASH HISTORY,’……

…… PROPOSED to the Texas State Board of Education should change the curriculum to facilitate using the term “INVOLUNTARY RELOCATION,” instead of slavery, when teaching 2nd graders.

  23. Artax,

John is a very nice man. A God-fearing man, worthy of our respect. A Barbados scholar! I would rather listen to him than the morons on BU.

We should sit at his feet and soak it all in because he is invariably correct.

Let us join with Ron De Santis and rewrite our history books in accordance with this unerringly true perspective! After all, the village names of Barbados, the Hope Roads and Harmony Halls, all give testimony to the fact that the slaves were full of hope and lived in harmony with their slave masters. Due to cramped conditions and close quarters, they had to!

Let us give God thanks and praise for delivering our ancestors out of the darkness of Africa on such spacious, luxury liners and gracing us with the benevolent benefactors who, by their lily- white brilliance, brought us into his marvellous light. Indeed, some of our ancestors, mine included, had the distinction of being owned by British Royalty!

What lowly beast could ask for anything more than to serve human beings of such incredible calibre?!

14,000,000 Africans were taken on ships to Americas and were told the white man was their master and they were no longer free but were now slaves.
They made as a wild ass guess 75,000,000 million slave babies.
Over time and 20 generations they made 750,000,0000 as another wild ass guess.

for the last 15 years this has been a topic everywhere that the history is being rewritten from Europe to North America and of course the idiots who love to attack each other WILL BE WRITTEN COMPLETELY OUT..

…why are they acting all surprised now, is a mystery, since we discussed this on here OVER THE YEARS…,,of course there is more information on what is already afoot.

It doesn’t upset me and it sure doesn’t surprise me that most Bajans of all hues do not realise they are the products of miscegenation.

Just look at the colours around you and you will realise what I am saying is true.

I like simple truths but I have found most people, Bajans included, can’t handle simple truths.

  32. What does inbreeding have to do with the egregious act of chattel slavery that was perpetrated against Black people?

  33. David,

Could be he’s referring to the fact that we all have slave master’s blood in our veins.

Maybe he’s trying to make us ask ourselves- who’s the slave and who’s the slavemaster ? Genetically speaking and descendent-wise, of course.

.people need to do some research and REALIZE that the different groups that originated from Afrikans, the ONLY RACE on the earth, have been remixing with Afrikans FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS…..it is INTEGRAL TO THEIR SURVIVAL…

it’s the nasty social construct of racism, social hatred, GREED and COVETOUSNESS IS the problem…

  39. But we know that the world has defined that for us. The “One drop” rule is still in effect.

Had a lengthy conversation yesterday with a much travelled and “lived overseas” woman (treasured second hand info cause Donna nevah went ‘way) who’s daughter is “mulatto”. She said she took great care to impress upon her daughter, that no matter how light complexioned she was, the white world would see her as a BLACK woman and treat her as such.

How did John’s friends, the Republicans, see Obama? Of course, his father’s strong African blood dominated his looks but his mother was white. He was half and half but he was designated BLACK.

    DOAN MIND the Johnnie!

Even if we were inclined to identify with our rapist “ancestors”, we would not be accepted as belonging.

    Therefore, his point is irrelevant!

@David, well ‘inbreeding’ is a heinous (well via incent anyhow) act … but then the related cliché “cousins make dozens” – likely au fait to many due to the actions of European royals – can also, one may surmise, be related to that old African tribal traditions where chieftains had large harems or simply wide-spread wives which over time also naturally led to inter-familial procreation, not so! 😎🙏🏿

All that to say that ain’t got a thing really to do with inter-racial sex; and absolutely NOTHING to do with the ravages, death and despair of the slavery plantation system.

It is truly unconscionable that a man who has lived the Bajan experience from child to adult could attempt to put lipstick on that disgusting face of slavery!

For every smile such lipstick could cover there are 100s of horrible twisted masks of pain and suffering for which it’s worthless.

white is not a color or a hue

“In color theory, hue is one of the main properties (called color appearance parameters) of a color, defined technically in the CIECAM02 model as “the degree to which a stimulus can be described as similar to or different from stimuli that are described as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet,”[1] within certain theories of color vision.”
