The Government, private sector and unions have signalled their intention to move from the optional injection phase to the mandatory. They seem convinced that the injections can only benefit Barbadians, and do not understand why many Barbadians are hesitant.

Both vaccinated and unvaccinated persons deserve an honest evidence-based discussion of COVID-19. To facilitate that discussion, the facts that are publicly known to-date are outlined in this article.

SARS-CoV PANDEMIC

In 2002, there was a pandemic called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in China. It was caused by the SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV).

In 2004, the US and Chinese Governments funded research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China, where they identified bats as the source of the SARS coronavirus [1].

CREATING VIRUSES

In 2005, US researchers developed a method of creating a new SARS coronavirus from parts of other viruses. Their method made it impossible to know whether the new virus was developed in a lab or naturally [2]. The method was called “no-see-um”.

In 2007, the Governments of China, Australia and Europe funded research at WIV where new viruses were assembled, by using parts of the SARS-CoV virus. Their new virus was able to infect human cells [3].

CREATING DANGEROUS VIRUSES

In 2015, the US and Chinese governments funded research, where US researchers (who developed the “no-see-um” method) genetically modified virus samples from China. These new viruses efficiently replicated in the human respiratory system, and were resistant to antibodies and vaccines [4].

In 2016, Chinese and US governments funded research at WIV. They developed a method of genetically modifying the virus created by US researchers in 2015. They developed multiple versions of this dangerous coronavirus [5].

CREATING DEADLY VIRUSES

In 2017, Chinese researchers at WIV were developing new coronaviruses using the “no-see-um” method [6]. They also developed different coronaviruses that could better infect, and efficiently replicate in humans [7].

In 2018, the Government of China funded research at the WIV that included replicating and modifying some of the most deadly viruses known to man, including Ebola, and Marburg [8]. This unpublished work was ongoing at the lab during the COVID-19 outbreak.

LAB SECURITY

The purpose of all of this research appears to have been well-intentioned. Researchers assumed that the next pandemic would come from a variant of the bat virus. Therefore, they were trying to develop a variant that could easily infect, and rapidly replicate in humans, so that a vaccine could be developed for it.

The problem is that genetically developing deadly viruses should be done at the highest security level, to prevent their escape. Level 4 provides the highest level of laboratory security. For comparison, the security level in a dentist’s office is Level 2.

The Chinese were developing dangerous viruses in Level 2 conditions [3]. Chernobyl should have taught the world that international level disasters can happen, when people deliberately do not adhere to safety standards specifically designed to prevent such disasters.

THE GAMES

On 12 September 2019, the Wuhan Institute of Virology removed its public database of over 22,000 entries from the Internet. Between 18 to 27 October 2019, China hosted the once-in-four-years Military World Games. It was attended by 9,308 military persons from 109 countries. Barbados sent two persons and won one bronze medal [9]. The host city was Wuhan.

Visiting athletes reported having their temperature checked at the airport [10]. Many visiting athletes became sick with COVID-19 like symptoms in Wuhan, and/or soon after they left [11]. Some countries have confirmed that COVID-19 was present in their countries in November 2019 [12].

THE DESTRUCTION

On 1 January 2020, Chinese labs were ordered to destroy their virus samples. Two days later, Chinese institutions were ordered not to publish any information on the virus, and to destroy all virus samples or give them to authorised Government agencies [13].

ANALYSING THE EVIDENCE

The evidence points to an accidental leak of different genetically modified viruses from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, before the military games. It was then spread throughout the world by the soldier athletes, when they completed their deployments. This may explain the relatively rapid global spread, and the diverse (now 15) variants.

The latest research suggests that a variant like MERS (with a one-in-three fatality rate) is a realistic possibility. The possibility that a new variant would evade current vaccines, and become difficult to revaccinate against, is almost certain [14].

WHY THE HESITANCY?

Why is there such hesitancy in discussing the possibility that COVID-19 was created in a lab?

The mountain of credible publicly available scientific evidence, suggests that COVID-19 was created in a lab. There is no similar evidence that it developed naturally. Why are those on the side of the overwhelming supporting evidence labelled conspiracy theorists?

VACCINE DEVELOPMENT ASSUMPTION

The development of the COVID-19 vaccines is founded on the unverified, and likely false assumption that COVID-19 developed naturally. Why is there hesitancy in critically examining the vaccines, given that the foundation on which they were developed is questionable?

Barbadians are not anti-vax. Barbadians normally take vaccinations to protect themselves against natural diseases. If COVID-19 is not a naturally occurring virus, Barbadians are justified in being hesitant. That hesitancy can be addressed with an honest evidence-based discussion – or by force.

Name one politician in any country whose word can be trusted. Just watch how much they try to convince you with talk and no objectively written studies or papers to support

    Xxcccc

Even more reason to hold them accountable making them transparent on their words
Hence on an issue which involves the health of a nation and people
A call for govt to put iron fist legislation on this issue is necessary

  7. PM Skerritt must be looking at different numbers for cases and deaths in the world a year ago.

Both were less last year at this time.

This is not good for the vaccine message he is bringing.

The numbers just do not match the narrative we get from the media.

Among adults 65 and older, the highest rates of excess deaths were in Black and Hispanic people, according to a new study published by the CDC on Thursday. Among people younger than 65, Black, American Indian and Alaska Native people had the highest rates compared with other racial and ethnic groups.

  10. Look at this graph for COVID cases in the US.

First look at the rise in cases in 2020 in blue. The peak is on January 7.

Thereafter, it falls like a stone until early July 2021.

Suddenly the number of cases rise so much so that at the moment they are about double what they were in 2020 (X1 vs X0)

For me this is just not normal.

It is as though the vaccine had no effect and made things worser or somehow the virus can be made to disappear and reappear at will.

There is something wrong in the numbers, they make no sense.

Maybe it is that the number of serious cases and deaths have diminished.

So let’s do the same analysis on the deaths.

  11. Let’s look at deaths in the US.

It is almost as if someone dialed up the number of deaths getting up to the election (blue) and then dialed them down (red) after.

The number of deaths per day is on the rise today and will probably end up at the same level as they were a year ago.

So what the vaccination has given America is twice the number of cases and about the same numbers of deaths.

Anyone who thinks this is good has to be crazy.

An explanation is that the vaccine only works for 6 months.

Again, anyone who thinks this is good has to be crazy.

  13. I don’t agree with the government’s decision not to mandate Covid19 vaccines.

But the government is made up of politicians, and politicians as expected make political decisions.

So more people WILL die. And some of those people may be people that I love very much.

When there were only 7 deaths, I asked who wanted to be number 8. And then there were deaths 8 to 48.

I expect that that number will rise before the end of the year.

No surprise here, there is a general election on the horizon. Mandatory vaccination is a wedge issue.

  16. CDB aka SS

You can’t mandate somebody take a vaccine which is not a vaccine!!

    That is a legal nullity.

    Check Skerritt in Dominica.

Look at the US with 70% of adults vaccinated and cases and deaths rising.

It is not working like a real vaccine should work.

  17. Cuhdear BajanAugust 21, 2021 10:19 PM

I expect that that number will rise before the end of the year.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Of course the number will rise.

The uncontestable fact is that people started to die in Barbados only after the vaccine started to be administered this year.

Since then the numbers of death have gone from 7 to 48.

How many of the 41 persons who died were vaccinated?

Maybe all were unvaccinated but I very much doubt it looking at the US numbers.

  19. The problem is the thing spreads and the more it spreads the more likely that it will infect people who are most at risk.

It is the spread that needs to be addressed.

Beating up on people claiming they are not wearing their masks or are not social distancing or are not doing something they were told to do is not working.

    That is obvious.

It is clear there is some other means of spread that all the mumbo jumbo in the world will not stop.

People are largely following protocols but they are not working.

  20. The protocols do not work regardless of where in the world you go.

    The numbers say so.

There has to be another way the virus is spread.

You are making my point for me.

Here is the Worldometer data for Wisconsin Deaths.

    What do you see?

    I see 12 deaths on August 21 2021 and 6 deaths a year earlier on August 21 2020.

First of all these numbers are small and secondly Wisconsin had double the deaths on this day in 2021 with 57.6% of the population vaccinated compared with 21st August a year ago with absolutely no vaccinations.

Clearly the elephant in the room in Wisconsin is what happened between October 2020 and February 2021.

Wasn’t Wisconsin a BATTLEGROUND STATE? …………. Hint Hint. Wink Wink.

The engineer in me asks how were the number of deaths dialed up between October and November 23 and then dialed backdown by the beginning of February?

It looks to me like some one had their hand on the dial because what I see is not natural, it is man made.

The answer is the number of cases were similarly ….. well … dare I say ….. manipulated.

“Manipulate comes from the Latin word for “hand,” manus and originally the English words that sprang from it like manipulate and manipulation referred to skill in physically handling objects by hand”

We’ll look at the cases in a minute.

Look at the actual numbers for Wisconsin I posted and you will see something is wrong in this narrative!!

On August 21 last year with no vaccinations there were 6 deaths vs 12 today and 57.6% of the state has had at least 1 vaccination.

  24. “Cases of people consuming ivermectin to treat the coronavirus in Mississippi are drawing alarm, with the state’s health department issuing an alert Friday warning people not to take the drug, saying the state’s poison control center has “received an increasing number of calls from individuals with potential ivermectin exposure taken to treat or prevent covid-19 infection.” Mississippi State Epidemiologist Paul Byers wrote in a letter to the MS Health Alert Network that “at least 70 percent of the recent calls” have been related to the ingestion of ivermectin “purchased at livestock supply centers.”

  25. The narrative for Wisconsin is that mostly all of the increase in cases are among the vaccinated and mostly all of the deaths are thus among the unvaccinated.

Then we have our own CMO saying out of the 62 cases at the St. Lucy facility, 25 are vaccinated and 37 are not.

What makes Bajans so different from those in Wisconsin?

Is it Astra Zeneca vs whatever was used in Wisconsin?

    +++++++++++++++++
When things go awry the “That is not who we are as a people” seems to be the PM’s favourite phrase I have heard it numerous times from her. The PM used the word “most” to describe how her Cabinet arrived at the decision, we can assume it wasn’t a unanimous resolution.

In other jurisdictions Government, Civic, Education and Business leaders ae making different judgements does that mean “that is what they are as a people”?

The Gov’t is effectively bowing to a vocal minority and since it is Gov’t policy not to mandate any vaccine I hope every person that decides their children should not be vaccinated prior to attending school can quote Gov’t policy as articulated by the PM.

  33. Are vaccines even necessary if someone has a strong immune system?

It takes two weeks for your body to create a full complement of antibodies. Therefore, when you catch a disease, you are barely protected, and that only improves gradually. Most diseases can make you very sick in that two weeks, and possibly even kill you. That delay is regardless of whether you have a strong immune system or not; it’s just how long the process takes.

Vaccination removes the time element by creating antibodies in advance, and by giving your body the information it needs to begin producing them as soon as you are infected. The minute a virus attacks it is greeted by a fully prepared biological army. The odds that it will be destroyed before it can do any real damage are therefore much greater.

No matter how good your natural immune system is, the time element can only be impacted by vaccination.

  34. Ministry of Health screening for Delta variant
Public health officials were able to contain two clusters of COVID-19 cases in Barbados, where the highly infectious Delta variant had been discovered.
This was revealed yesterday by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley during an hour-long nationally televised address.
She said the clusters were inactive now, but the Ministry of Health was actively involved in a screening process of two others which could have two cases associated with the Delta variant, based on preliminary screening carried out by the Ministry of Health. Those two clusters originated in separate local business houses.
“This is a very challenging time, but this country will not retreat or surrender to this virus,” Mottley stressed, while saying the Ministry of Health would continue with its aggressive contact tracing. A number of clusters led to more than 100 new COVID-19 cased being discovered in Barbados last week.
Mottley said officers of the Ministry of Health have their work cut out even more, due to the threat posed by the more infectious Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus.
    Not able to make link
“There are a few cases the Ministry of Health has not yet been able to link to anybody, or anything. Three of them were as a result of persons presenting themselves to the Accident & Emergency (of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital) and three of them are as a result of persons voluntarily testing,” she said.
The Prime Minister said Government would be sticking to its decision to isolate all those who test positive for COVID-19, unlike some
countries, since this had allowed public health personnel to contain the virus in the country and also facilitate proper contact tracing.
She said that if needed, they would have no problem expanding the infrastructure at the Isolation Facility at Harrison Point in St Lucy.
Mottley then urged more Barbadians to voluntarily test for the virus so they could know their status, since it gives officials more confidence in finding new infections, and allows individuals to make informed decisions about protecting their loved ones.
The Prime Minister also revealed that due to the current situation with clusters, a change would be made to the country’s next Directive, set to begin on Monday.
The 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew remains, but in an effort to reduce numbers at public events, limes and picnics will now be allowed only 20 people, down from 40.

  35. The psychology of hesitance
Doctors recommend that men aged 45 years and over should screen regularly for prostate cancer as early detection can prove lifesaving. Despite this obvious benefit, several men fail to have regular (or any) prostate exams due to their unwillingness to undergo a rectal exam and/or their fear of a possible cancer diagnosis.
Diabetics are warned to limit consumption of foods high in sugar or carbohydrates and advised not to ignore even minor cuts. Yet some continue to regularly consume carbonated beverages, sweetbread or macaroni pie or take minor cuts or bruises for granted. Years ago, I witnessed an acquaintance who was diabetic suffer an untimely death after she wrongly ignored a small scrape on her toe.
These represent scenarios where individuals, often through fear or inattention, fail to take action that may be in their best interest and which could prevent unnecessary or catastrophic results. This is part of human behaviour.
It is not uncommon for humans to fear the unknown, the unfamiliar or to ignore sound medical advice if it threatens their comforts, wishes or beliefs. So why are we surprised when these same tendencies are displayed towards the vaccines? Should the people in the above scenarios be denied medical treatment because they failed to take preventative measures? So why are some suggesting that the unvaccinated be denied medical treatment if they contract the virus? Is this who we are or who we are becoming?
In our rush to get back to “normal” we are losing some of our humanity and adopting unhealthy polarised positions that further divide us. The return to “normal” will not be a sprint but more like a slow trod. The sooner we accept this, the better we will be able to survive the ongoing pandemic.
Using fear tactics, such as reminding the unvaccinated that they may suffer severe illness or death, is not useful since fear never conquers fear. Saying “trust the science” oversimplifies the matter and ignores how common it is for some people to act contrary to science even when it is in their best interest. Some people resort to inaction when they feel pressured, confused or are bombarded by excess information.
We need to give them time.
If we wish greater vaccine uptake, employers and
this administration must change the messaging and the methods used.
Understanding the reason behind an employee’s hesitance is essential to determining how best to deal with that employee. Rather than threatening, ridiculing, scaring, or constantly preaching to employees about getting vaccinated, why not allow them to be heard?
Soliciting the assistance of a workplace counselling service may provide the proper medium for employees to safely express the reasons for their hesitance and feel heard. The counsellor may then make recommendations to the employer on how best to address the hesitation.
Many employees will eventually take the jab if given sufficient time.
Finally, in last week’s article my calculation of the percentage of the population who received some form of the vaccine was based on the erroneous assumption that the 182 000 doses referenced by Dr Arthur Phillips equated to 182 000 people. I have since been advised that the figure included the 82 000 people who received two doses (160 000 doses).
I still maintain that the hesitance is not widespread as was seen from the overwhelming response to the Pfizer vaccine roll-out.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The number of fully vaccinated people in Wisconsin who were hospitalized with COVID-19 more than doubled from February to July, but the more contagious delta variant was still an exponentially greater threat to the unvaccinated, state Department of Health Services data released Thursday shows.

The unvaccinated were three-times as likely to test positive for COVID-19 as the unvaccinated in July, the health department data showed. The unvaccinated were hospitalized at a rate 3.7-times higher than the vaccinated and the risk of dying was 10-times higher for the unvaccinated.

“The COVID-19 vaccines are still doing their job by stopping the spread of many new infections, and by preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death,” said department Secretary Karen Timberlake in a statement. However, because no vaccine is perfect, some breakthrough cases are expected, the health department said.”

  39. TheO,

    Which big lie?

  40. “People are largely following the protocols”?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    Another big lie!

  41. I am yet to come across anyone who isn’t following the protocols.

My bet is people generally do.

Yet, there is no control on the spread of the virus.

One minute it can appear to have disappeared the next moment it pops up somewhere else.

It is as though a defensive ring is setup and it travels under the ring and gets by.

    Transmission by water explains this.

Know where you get your water from and …..

…. boil de watah if you know it coming outa Sweet Bottom or de desal plant!!

  42. @John
Here I was thinking children were not to be “vaccinated”, only adults, it was something or other to do with science
    +++++++++++++++++
I was referring to any vaccine, you do realize that there are people who are opposed to any vaccine not only those that fight the Corona vaccine and as far as I remember there are still mandatory vaccines for children in Barbados

  43. The Delta variant is on the rise in Jamaica and the Gov’t has declared “no movement” days i.e. days when you are not supposed to leave home

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/jamaica-announces-lockdowns-as-covid-19-cases-surge-1.6147606

  44. Look at Dominica’s numbers of Active cases.

    It makes no sense.

Within a couple of days it has risen from close to zero to 750.

    It is not natural.

Either the testing has somehow changed or the virus has been released in a segment of the population by accident or on purpose.

Look at what happened in Barbados with a much larger population.

Is Delta that much more infectious than whatever infected Barbados?

If it is why don’t we see the corresponding rise in Barbados now?

Is it really the breach of protocols?

    I flat don’t believe it.

Someone is monkeying with the numbers.
