Today the electorate of St. George North will vote for a member of parliament to fill the vacancy created by the ‘retirement’ of Gline Clarke. The blogmaster’s assessment is that it will be a straight contest between Floyd Reifer (DLP) and Toni Moore (BLP). Of the so-called third parties Grenville Phillips should retain third option in the number count. We can debate if Barbadians are ready for a third party or is this a case of the quality of the options presented. The blogmaster respectfully suggest the latter.

The result of the election will answer a few questions for political pundits.

  • Has the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) regain its standing as the credible alternative in the eyes of voters?
  • Despite managing the affairs of state in the most challenging period post independence, will the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) be able to convince the SGN electorate that it is the most competent to govern at this time?
  • Will Grenville Phillips increase his penetration of support in the constituency to forge the way for third parties in the future?
  • How large will the protest vote be which has been fomenting in a climate of austerity for the last 3 years?
  • Has the last 90 days of campaigning confirm the urgent need for electoral reform in Barbados?

So far by-election activities has been largely peaceful in keeping with Bajan tradition. Let us continue to make the country proud by delivering an uneventful event. The blogmaster’s vote will be cast for David Walrond, the agriculturist and community practitioner.

  1. “The process of dismantling them is ongoing.”

so who do you know in Barbados dismantling racism AND slavery of the modern day variety..

  2. “You can stay there tearing your hair out. Me? I believe there is a better way than yours.”

now that we have done all the heavy lifting…all the work of exposing for YEARS ON END while you were nowhere around, now YOU HAVE A BETTER WAY…

well roll out that better way so that we can see the RESULTS….i will even help you, am sure Miller will pitch in too, since he has been around even longer than i have……..you can start right now..

  3. Racism in Barbados has been so normalised that many Barbadians do not even recognise it. To claim that a Barbadian has never suffered racism in Barbados is to ignore the reality that black and white Barbadians live parallel lives.
I have seen some people on BU admitting that while at school the white pupils would go off and form their own little cliques. Those who play with or work with Bajan whites have no or very little social contact outside the cricket club or the work place.
In fact, black Barbadians have more contact with non-Barbadian whites in Barbados than they do with Bajan whites. Like most things, an example best illustrates the point.
Some years ago I was at the KIdd’s Holders Hill outfit meeting up with a white English friend, a fellow journalist, whose wife was working at the Holders Hill Season, when this young Bajan white woman (I was later told she lived in London) was very hostile to two Bajan workers at the bar, a man and woman aged in their late 30s to early 40s.
She went on and on, obviously playing up to the English people there. It was then that my friend, a Scotsman, tore in to her and told her off. As he did, some of the young English girls there, from Kent, joined in.
I remember one of the girls, being harassed by a drunken white Bajan, snapped that there was nothing worst than a white Bajan. Myself and my partner just kept quiet.
We both knew that if we had said anything to that black couple they would have told us about our parents and where to go. They did not say a single word to the Bajan woman.
Bajans think white racism is normal. Just to go Cave Shepherd and observe how shoppers are treated. I remember the thought of a little black boy getting a job on Broad Street as a cash boy was so ridiculous it never passed your mind.
I also remember someone coming on BU and saying his father oar grand father told him there used to be black cash boys on Broad Streets. Could you believe it?
Having said all that, the long-term future of Barbados depends on a settlement between traditional black and white Barbadians. If they fail to reach an agreement, then the New Barbadians are going to take over. Mark my words.

  4. Mad as ass! Making no sense. Pretzel logic. Woman, I am not a hermit. I go places. So do my friends and family. Point is, if hate speech and blatant, in your face racism is so rampant we would not have been able to avoid it. When it is encountered it is usually the black “overseer” type who is the face of it. Our racism is more subtle. It is more a problem of economics. We are working on that. We have always been working on that.

Now you are welcome to misinterpret and misstate what I said again. I have a date with some cucumbers and okras in my beautiful garden which I must enjoy before the bogeyman takes it away.

    “@ Walter
These party hacks of the Democratic Labour Party and the Barbados Labour Party dare not reveal themselves because they will be eaten raw.”

    William,
When we were living in Barbados, many times you and I watched a cat as it defecated. After it had created its mess, it used its back paws to scoop up dirt in an attempt to cover over its foul deed. It then moved on as if nothing had happened.
The antics of some politicians, political parties, and party hacks here on BU are no different. However, the success of any undertaking requires the effort and support of a few good men and women. I am convinced that we have enough good men and women here on BU to turn these party hacks into political dinosaurs. Nowadays, hardly anyone is being swayed by their partisan, one-eyed arguments, so it is only a matter of time before they recognize the futility of their actions.
Some try to dismiss you and me by reminding us that we were rejected at the polls. These people fail to understand that whereas we felt confident and qualified enough to stand up and try to make Barbados a better place, we know that they dare not show their faces at the constituency or national level. As you have correctly said, they know only too well that “they will be eaten raw.”
Congrats to Mr. Grenville Phillips II, Ambrose Grosvenor, David Walrond, and Alex Mitchell for standing up against incredible odds in the recent by-election and trying to make a difference.

  6. Racism is indeed normalized in Barbados, so normal that the filthiest racists leave their shithole countries in UK or whereever and turn up in Barbados just to practice it against the dumb ass black people who allow it…because they have heard stories about how it’s sanctioned by corrupt governments…

..they plant themselves in the gated communities and terrorize any black people living there and their children, saw it myself, management always have to go an put them in their place and tell them they are not allowed to harrass the black residents…so many incidences of racism and people would come out and lie about it, trying to project it does’nt exist..

…the last 2 who came into Barbados honing their racist skills had run away from quarantine, harrassed some Black children in a gated community just before Defense Force found them and hauled them away with their infested, diseased asses….bajans would accept slavery and racism as long as it gets them some money so they can boast about tourist numbers…

I remember this bajan lowclass white woman used to make it her business to go into the then SuperCentre in Warrens just to terrorize black women and make them pass behind her….she looked like a damn drunk and i happened to be passing one day when she did it and let her know to get her funky ass out of people’s faces, that was about 12 years ago, what got me stunned was these same black women would attack and fight each other but won’t lift a finger to bitch slap nuisances like her….they accept crap and then pretend it didn’t happen..

we just had one in the last two years who was getting into black people’s cars and trying to rob them of money until she got into the right black woman’s car demanding money and got her ass beaten badly, the video was all over social medica, she was not even arrested by the police am sure the dirty government intervened in that also…

  7. BUT…just this weekend WURA informed me that I am living in a mirage for thinking that my good life is possible in Barbados. So she, being overseas, can tell me about my experience here. And don’t get me started on Baje, who never forgets to mention our 2×3 size as though it renders us brain dead. Why just yesterday he suggested that it prevents us from detecting PLT’s deceptions!

YOU CAN CONTINUE TO POST YOUR SHITE.

A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH WILL COME UP WITH THE BELOW FACT:

How many miles wide and long is Barbados?

It is up to 23 km (14 mi) in width and it is 34 kilometres (21 miles) in length, covering an area of 432 km2 (167 sq mi). It is in the western area of the North Atlantic and 100 km (62 mi) east of the Windward Islands and the Caribbean Sea; therein, Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands.

IT IS A 2 X 3 ISLAND AND ONE OF THE SMALLEST LAND AREA IN THE WORLD INHABITED BY PEOPLE.

I CAN DRIVE ON MY LOCAL HIGHWAY OR ROADS WITH NO TRAFFIC AND IN 15 MINUTES DRIVE FURTHER THAN THE LENGTH OF BARBADOS.

SECONDLY IF ANY STUDENT WHEN I TAUGHT AT UWI OR AS AN ADJUNCT PROFESSOR IN THE USA WAS TO PLAGIARIZE take (the work or an idea of someone else) and pass it off as one’s own.I WOULD CALL THEM OUT ON IT.

PLT IDEA WASN’T CALLED DIGITAL NOMAD OR SOME NEW NAME IT WAS TITLED AS A WELCOME STAMP SAME NAME AND FOR SIMILAR PURPOSES AS EXISTED IN OTHER COUNTRIES IN YEARS EARLIER.

BARBADOS IS A COPY ISLAND AND LIKE TO TAKE CREDIT FOR OTHER PEOPLES IDEAS WHILST THE COPIER LIKES TO POUNDING THEIR CHEST.

PLT CAN CONTINUE TO FOOL MANY OF YOU DESPERATE TO HAVE SOMETHING TO HOLD ONTO SAME AS BLP AND DLP HAVE BEEN FOOLING BAJANS FOR OVER 50 YEARS. IT IS THE BAJAN CONDITION..

  8. Donna got it twisted…ya can’t act like ya are the only person living on the island, only one with a “good life” or because you may have a good life, everyone else has one too…enough with the …if it never happened to me, it don’t exist…making yaself look and sound silly..

… i will continue to expose what i have to expose until the desired result is achieved…, then there will be no more need for me to say anything…and besides, we have actually seen results for the 8 years, those who protest the most have not even started doing anything to produce anything….and many were here long before me, many came after, some just arrived…

…am waiting for Donna’s plan and results from the better way she has….

    “David,
You have me giggling. Good entertainment is an expensive commodity, so I thoroughly enjoy it when it is free.
The most endearing characteristic of Combermerians is that they love to extract a laugh from whatever situation they find themselves in. They do not take themselves or life too seriously.
I know that in doing so I am acting “ultra vires” (beyond my authority), but in case you did not go to Combermere, I hereby confer on you the title of “Honorary Combermerian”.”
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Very few would have gotten the comical depth of that piece of ‘cryptic’ satire disguising as just a ‘flat’ joke.

The blogmaster certainly outdid himself with that one. Never knew he had it within him.

Yes, he is indeed deserving of that title” Honorary Combermerian”.

Bush Tea would have recommended such an outstanding accolade if only for providing the best kind of medicine for the human spirit, a dose of laughter.

Even the curmudgeon, Hal Grouch, would agree and have a hearty laugh, even if at his mistress’s expense!

  10. “Our racism is more subtle. It is more a problem of economics. We are working on that. We have always been working on that.”

you obviously haven’t gotten anywhere…who is the we who is working on that…you can’t work on anything as long as RACISM IS SANCTIONED by your treacherous governments…what working on that what.

.the economics part is because ya corrupt governments don’t want to see black people possess anything, own anything or get wealthy…they are sell outs, it’s in their DNA…that’s why so many multi-million dollar estates got stolen , why so much money has been stolen from the treasury, the pension fund…and 1 billion dollars in VAT disappeared, no one pays their taxes if related to politicians….tell me again about subtle racism being because of economics…

.you must think you can frighten someone away..ya better go talk to ya cucumbers and stop lying..

  11. Where I see the possibility of conflict, I will pose my thoughts as a questions.

It is not the differences of opinion that surprises me, but how intense the disagreements can become. Some of the combatants are quite intelligent and it appears that the egos are often too big to walk away.

I try to limit the number of exchanges to a single individual when there is friction. What I once thought was an ordinary exchange was later revealed to be painful to some. I still like a cheap joke, but I exercise more caution when going for the joke.

Some of the unpleasant exchanges can be avoided or shortened. I have changed, but I try to remain honest to my own ideas.

  12. It is idiocy to claim that the social divisions in Barbados are based on or mainly on class, rather than racism. That what racism there is is ‘subtle’. I suppose you can say the same thing in Apartheid South Africa.
It is even more appalling then to admit that the surrogate racist are the black watchmen, so-called security guards, police and the courts. That is exactly how mature racism operates. Substitutes do the dirty work.

  13. @ Hal

I USED TO PLAY GOLF I WILL GIVE YOU THREE GOOD EXAMPLES OF RACISM ON THE 2 x 3 ISLAND.

AFTER A GOLF GAME ESPECIALLY A TOURNAMENT THE BAJAN WHITES WOULD ALWAYS WITHOUT FAIL SIT AT TABLES HAVING CONVERSATION AMONG THEMSELVES.

THE BLACKS WOULD DO SAME SOMETIMES JOINED BY OTHER WHITES NONE FROM BARBADOS.

ONE WELL KNOWN BLACK BUSINESSMAN WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPE BUSINESSES WOULD ALWAYS COMPLAIN THAT WHENEVER HIS ‘LOCAL WHITE GOLFING BUDDIES WOULD HAVE PARTIES AT THEIR HOUSE HE WAS NEVER INVITED”.

A CHIP ON HIS SHOULDERS HE CARRIES TO THIS DAY.

WHITE OWNERS AND BOSSES DON’T INVITE BLACK PEOPLE TO THEIR HOUSES UNLESS THEY ARE MAIDS, BUTLERS OR LANDSCAPERS OR WORK FOR A SERVICE PROVIDER.

THE IDIOTS THAT SAYS BECAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENED TO THEM ARE DELUSIONAL FOOLS.

BARBADOS IN 2020 STILL HAS SILENT APARTHEID.

  14. @ Walter
They are cowards aided and abetted by the Blogmaster. They would not get away with this anywhere else. If they are so much in love with Mottley , Stuart and company , why don’t they come out and defend them? Mottley ain’t hiding, Stuart ain’t hiding, why are they hiding?
Note recently the Blogmaster told me he knows them and they are doers. He’s the one that talks about transparency. Why should I take his word.
As far as the NDP is concerned, I shall defend the party whenever and wherever necessary. I did not hide my association and everybody knows me.
Damn cowards talking about how much they love Barbados. They love Mottley and Stuart. They don’t want any third party they like it so. I agree with you , all those who went in SGN and took on the decadent BLPDLP should hold their heads up high. They fought gallantly against the two headed monster , they wear scars of honor and love for country.
The deposits they lost will be squandered and help pay the $25000 per month consultants.
After fifty six years of independence we did not even have the balls to throw a slave trader and hooligan in the Careenage. Frauds.

    Peace

  15. Do not be dishonest William, it does not fit you well. The blogmaster replied to your comment regarding BU commenters who do not do community work. The blogmaster retorted that many commenters on BU are known to the blogmaster and they also are also heavily involved in community work.

  16. @ Baje

    I know.

  17. @Miller

Many on the blog take themselves too seriously.

  18. @ Hal
Back in the 60s/70s , there was a dog trained, to only chase Black people off the aquatic jetty, that used to belong or was frequented by the members of the Yacht Club.
Ask them why Barrow got the “ Royal “ charter removed from the yacht club.
Ask them if the white people did not leave the front seats of the car empty and put the help in the back with the dogs
Ask them about the two yacht clubs. The Barbados Sailing Club was for blacks
Ask them about the two grandstands st the Garrison Savanah
Now those who refuse to understand these things should not be taken too seriously
A few years ago a white attorney took down his pants and skinned his ass at a black female magistrate
Just a few years ago as you said another white attorney beat up a black youth and called him nigger
Ask them about the Carlisle Club
Ask them why Black American tourists prefer Jamaica
Ask them why the white man on the GEL boat ain’t gone to trial yet
Ask them what happened to the black upper class Smith family at a hotel some years ago
Ask them how white people in Rouen Park(SGN) got their black Neighbour’s telephone and called them to ask for a vote for Moore
I don’t pay no attention to those who don’t admit or understand these things
If the kite pop um pop and I say no more
Marcus Garvey warned us about the enemy within

    Peace

  19. @William

Do not forget the first thing Toussaint did after the Haitian revolution was to deal with the black traitors. I remember when black people could not go through Belleville or Pine Gardens after sundown. Remember Lumumba and Tshombe?
But we are ‘overseas’ Bajans, we do not understand. The funny thing about it is that white English people who come to Barbados return and talk about it, it is so behind the times.

  20. “we have your best interests at heart but draw the line at ALLOWING YOU TO HIDE THINGS AND PRETEND ALL IS OK …when those of us who know more than you….and you live on the island”

Donna – WURA is not only mad, she’s a compulsive liar.

  21. No more a compulsive liar than fowl slave Enuff…who would sell her ass to be near some racist bajan white ..and do just about anything to be part of the Mia Brigade selling out Black people…

“Marcus Garvey warned us about the enemy within”

ya have to be very careful on all fronts, the sell out negro is very vicious, Marcus Garvey paid to learn, ya get a lot of pretenders on BU, who ain’t pretending to be black, pretending to be white, pretending to have so good a life that racism is subtle and tied to economics….. and on and on….they never have an original idea in their heads until you come up with something, then they have ALL THE ANSWERS…but can never implement…

you would not believe how many people i just cut right out of my life because you can feel their treachery…it’s like a poison, ya can smell.

William ya forgot the minister who went to a hotel and was told he had to go through back, too black for the front door, many of those black faces in the parliament are not welcomed in many racist hotels…

…don’t mind pretentious Donna……and the fraudulent yardfowl Enuff…fowls are the next thing to be dismantled just like nelson, ya can drown them cause no one will pay to see no yardfowl in no museum..

  22. One can easily add more recent events to that list ..
Can a local coin a term for that behavior and explain why it occurs?

  25. Barbados is a god awful place to live. Indeed I live in abject fear that slavery will soon be reinstituted. Every where I turn the dreaded white man verbally attacks me.

Who gives an ass if the white man mixes with me or not.

    Wuhnuh longing fuh white company????

Somebody else talking bout sixties and seventies.

Steupse! I am sorry if my happy life in the 2 × 3 island is distressing to you all. I will try to be more more miserable because I have heard that misery loves company.

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  26. Oh dear! The Overseas Bajan Condition!

Wuhnuh could gang up but wuhnuh cyan frighten Donna.

    Piss off, do!

    Miserable sods!

Wuhnuh really tink wuhnuh saving Barbados?????

    Murdaaaaah!

  27. Anyone living in Amurka and Engulund arguing that systemic racism is worse in Bdos needs their head checking. I just once again proves my point about some on this blog fixated on their narrative at all costs. Imagine having to strip resumes of names just to give people of colour a chance at even an interview.

  28. The blogmaster finds it amazing people who do not mlive in Barbados can speak to current state with greater authority than those living here.

  29. Donna
But WURA didn’t say she is living in Barbados and asked people about the sign in St.Thomas and was quick to claim she went shopping during COVID and had no worries in the supermarket in Bdos? 🤔

  30. Wuhnuh really tink wuhnuh saving Barbados?????

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

NOBODY IS TRYING TO SAVE THE 2 x 3 ISLAND THAT IS WHAT BLP POLITICIANS YOU LIKE AN IDIOT VOTED FOR IS SUPPOSED TO DO.

PLT WITH HIS COPIED WELCOME STAMP IDEA FROM OTHER COUNTRIES THINKS THAT IS ALSO HIS ROLE.

YOU WHO KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT OTHER COUNTRIES BASED ON WORD OF MOUTH AND TV.

WE HAVE ALL LIVED ON THE 2 x 3 ISLAND AT SOME POINT AND HAVE OWN NON WATERED DOWN OPINIONS.

NO ONE NEEDS TO GANG UP ON YOU, I FOR ONE DON’T, BUT YOU CAN CONTINUE TO SHOW YOUR ASS AS IF BARBADOS BELONG TO YOU.

  31. Grown ass people in search of Utopia delivered by a genie in a bottle.

Steupse! We chip away at injustice daily. It never ends. It never will.

One jenny ass waiting for a grand plan that will magically make everybody equal.

Another wants white people to invite him to their homes.

I guess that should be the aspiration of every black monkey. To sit with the humans after golf and receive an invitation to their houses for big drinks! Now THAT would be HEAVENLY – for a black monkey who wishes to be a human!

I guess monkey tired living in trees and drinking coconut water!

    🤦🏽‍♂️

  32. “Pretentious Donna” – another name I have never been called. Funny how I am known in real life for exactly the opposite!

    You people need serious psychoanalysis!

Some shit happened to you up north.

  33. Each night I am haunted by nightmares of the white man’s dogs that chased me last week, November 10, 2020 when passing by road outside his gated community longing to be invited in!

    Murdaaaaah!

  34. David
Especially when they are also bereft of facts or the full story. They need to read and listen more.

  35. Showing my ass as if Barbados belongs to me??????? 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Do people who think Barbados belongs to them go around showing their asses??

Wuhlaus! I will keep my eye out for the asses. Are they trembling like the one’s in Walter’s video????

What is there to tell David
if yuh sitting or standing on the shoreline and yuh see a boat slowly sinking
Does it mean yuh have to be a passenger on the boat to say the boat was sinking
Hope the above comment answers your dribble about overseas bajans comments about Barbados
Yes they are on the shoreline but watching very carefully

    Yuh think overseas bajan idiots

  44. And as for Hal Austin’s assinine comment- of course I told stories of the Q.C. girls in the 1970s. Didn’t say it bothered me though. I remember thinking it was funny. I also remember playing a prank on them and taking over the area by the tennis courts. My self-esteem was never tied to them.

The white Bajans don’t have to mix with me. I don’t even remember they exist really until I encounter one of them. I never dreamt of marrying one. I like dark chocolate. That is one of the main reasons I like living here rather than in England. I actually like US.

  45. @Mariposa
Last two posts. You made me chuckle. Not bad …You do have moments of brilliance…

    Keep it clean…

  46. I like this also

  47. “But WURA didn’t say she is living in Barbados and asked people about the sign in St.Thomas and was quick to claim she went shopping during COVID and had no worries in the supermarket in Bdos”

ya should be more worried about who in the cabinet….SOLD A PROPERTY THAT DID NOT BELONG TO THEM ….TWICE….check out the story on social media, if ya dare..

And with all the long talk, a fowl slave like you live in a country where racism is also in your face, but ya know ya gotta keep ya ass where are just as you would have to keep it quiet in racist Barbados..

Donna…i realized a long time ago that your reason for being on a blog is far different to mine and you got lost at least a year ago or more., i have something to do because ya corrupt court system believe they can victimize and terrorize every black person who crosses their path, and they particularly target the elderly, so in essence i came on the blog with a purpose, unfortunately information came that showed the malignant cancer that spreads like poison on the island starting in the parliament and bar association and stinking up the judiciary.

….from racism to this that and the next, as long as there is time on my hands to ADDRESS HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES and violations….and expose all the wrong that has happened to the vulnerable from the 1940s, and particularly what is happening today, ya will see me posting…am not here because am bored and looking for cheap laughs…there is something called activism, not coverupism, ya should check it out

…i kept telling you that we are speaking of two completely different things, because we are on the blog for two completely different reasons, so you will never understand what i meant when i said that all the heavy lifting has already been done, and it has….just as you will not understand much of what transpired here before you arrived…..ya are useless to help with any changes, that is clear, again, the structures of racism in Barbados are reinforced because it has remained a constant since emancipation, your jackass leaders weaponize it against black people, you cannot remove it by wishful thinking, the whole structure has to be dismantled and the slave laws, slave codes and the practice of racism abolished completely, with heavy prison sentences for the trash who practice it now..

So next time you think you can run game and cover up scams…think first.

Lorenza the big rat, ya so good at running ya affairs…ya ran it all into the ground with the island broke and walking around with a begging bowl, that yall legacy, thefts and all type of crimes against the people…and all ya left with now is DEBT……..that’s how good yall are,….. laughing stocks.
