Grenville Phillips, Candidate for St. George North and Leader of Solutions Barbados

From my visits to almost every community in St George North, I have found one consistent desperate need. The employed want work for the unemployed, and the unemployed want work. All other issues were secondary.

All five candidates in this by-election (BLP, DLP, Solutions Barbados, UPP, and PdP) have a responsibility to propose workable solutions to the unemployment problems in St George North. The plans must not depend on new government funding, because the Government will claim that they have no money.

If a candidate does not have a workable plan, then they need to devise one. The plan should be fully operational in the 30 months remaining in the current election cycle.

UNCONSCIONABLE PRETENSE

If a candidate does not have a workable plan, then they should stop pretending that they do. It is unconscionable to give desperately hurting people false hope and empty promises.

The people of St George North do not only need a Member of Parliament (MP) in this by-election. There are so many MP’s in the House of Assembly, that the Prime Minister does not know what to do with them. The people of St George North need someone to manage workable employment generating projects.

Our plan is designed to make St George North the most prosperous constituency in Barbados. Both the plan, and my capacity to implement it, are contained in Solutions Barbados’ manifesto (attached). Please contact us if you have not received your copy.

All constituencies in Barbados are hurting. St George North voters have a responsibility to give them hope, and not let them down. They can do this by voting for the best plan for themselves, not their party.

If people are prospering, then families, businesses, churches, and community organisations automatically benefit.

    Two parties sharing more than sixty years of government did not build a pavilion in St. George and they polluting the night air blaming one another. If this is isn’t a comedy , I don’t know what comedy is.
    Any “ neutral “ observer will admit that the third parties are presenting the better platforms but the blind bloating kool aid drinkers on BU cannot bring themselves to admit that.
    From Joy Edwards in the 70s to George Payne in the 20 (20s) they can’t fix White Hill.
    Sixty years of collective government and flooding shutting down schools.
    Imagine fooling the world that poor black children going school on line and they have no tablets and are not even on line.

    CONSIDER YOURSELF FORTUNATE THAT AS A BLACK MAN YOU DID IT YOUR WAY AND HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS WISE AND FINANCIALLY AND LEAVE THE LOCAL IDIOTS TO WALLOW IN THE UPCOMING ADDITIONAL MISERY BROUGHT ON BY THE 2020 PANDEMIC AND POOR GOVERNMENT.

    BLP IS RUNNING OUT OF PLACES WHERE THEY CAN BORROW EASY MONEY FOR KICKBACKS AND COLLUSION.

    I APPLAUD YOUR EFFORTS HOWEVER YOU WILL NEVER WIN NOT BECAUSE YOU DON’T DESERVE TO BUT BECAUSE MAJORITY LOCAL VOTING BAJANS DON’T LIKE HONEST AND TRUTHFUL PEOPLE THEY LIKE BEING MISLEAD AND DECEIVED AND THE POLITICIANS KNOW THIS FOR OVER 50 YEARS SINCE INDEPENDENCE.

    UNFORTUNATELY ON THE 2 X 3 ISLAND COMMONSENSE IS NOT SO COMMON ALONG WITH GOOD JUDGMENT HENCE WHY THEY STICK WITH THE STATUS QUO WHILST COMPLAINING BITTERLY AMONG THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF DOING SOMETHING ABOUT.

    As if we can compartmentalise like that. Any black man who does not see the danger that is Trump is lacking a serious way. Any black man who can concoct such an interpretation of Nelson is lacking in a serious way. Any black man who views the British monarchy as an insurance policy is lacking in a serious way.

    Unfortunately for Barbados so many among us both educated and uneducated have NO genuine interest for the well being of Barbados. Their concern is confined to what they can get regardless of whatever corruption is involved, whether they are involved directly or from a distance; as long as their party gets in. So Barbados continues to toss from B to D with both parties practicing much corruption and mismanagement only to safeguard party faithfuls. People join these parties in masses to benefit in the same way a person may expect to benefit from membership of some fraternities; to gain unfair advantage despite what it cost the country.
    For example:
    It is OBVIOUS this by-election is unnecessary: Why take a 69 year old MP from elected position to send him to Canada, when others are available? It’s just a choice to create a by-election when the country is already financially humbled & with countless other items of goverance needing attention. And to tell educated people that it is needed because Union leader is required to sit in lower house to better represent labour. ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE. So they “abridged” the rules to take an independent senator overnight into the BLP and automatically make her the candidate, massive insult to intelligent minds. Ony a yard fowl could support that & only a fool could honestly accept it.
    UNFORTUNATELY THE DLP WOULD HAVE DONE A SIMILAR THING (except they might not be as bold faced)

    We need to seek alternative parties. After several decades of excellent academic education, we are blessed with abundant supply of eligible persons.. BUT WE CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THAT WE NEED PERSONS EXPERIENCED IN POLICITCAL TRICKERY; SO WE CAN VOTE THEM IN & THEN COMPLAIN.
    THIS ONLY BENEFITS THOSE NARROW MINDED YARD FOWLS IN HIGH PLACES & LOW PLACES.
    Barbadians should realize that most of the work of goverance is done by technocrats not by politicians.

    You are right. There is a national obsession with punching above their weight. I am sue it is psychological. But if this is the intention of her so-called strategists, they are playing with fire.
    The more ‘international’ publicity she gets, the more the media, certainly the UK media, will start taking a closer look at her. Look at how they have taken down Boris Johnson.
    She is playing with fire and she must not allow her ego to take over reality.

    Good contribution from Runner. I do think it is time to move on. The reasons given for this unnecessary and distracting by election are obviously bogus.

    Unfortunately I think most of those honest and intelligent people who should be running are afraid to enter the fray. The political culture is too toxic and will not change over night.

    Looks like the SGN by election has sucked all the oxygen out of the room and the Gov’t took the opportunity to announce the appointment of a new CJ (on a Saturday no less). What does the new CJ bring to the table? This, according to the blurb that accompanied the announcement:

    “He possesses the art of appropriately simplifying complex topics [and an] ability to make important judgments in a short timeframe . . . Not every opinion a lawyer is required to give is straightforward, and at times, there may be more than one option available, [and] he has always demonstrated excellent evaluative skills to decide the more appropriate course of action. Where creativity is required in solving problems, he is more than equal to the task. He has, too, a talent for sifting out extraneous considerations and is not distracted by irrelevances.”

    Sounds boiler plate or similar to a senior partner in a law firm describing a junior associate which leaves me wondering what the then Opposition which was so strident in challenging the elevation of M Gibson to the position has done now that it has control of the hiring process and whether it believes this latest is an upgrade. To this bystander it is six of one/half a dozen of the other; Thompson/Stuart hired their buddy from NY; Mottley/Marshall their buddy in Barbados.

    Judicial prowess be damned.

    Having heard Mr Reifer last night speaking on a political platform i am now wiser to why these parties do not want these three debates.There is no way Mr Reifer or the leader Ms Depeiza can win any debate with Ms Moore or Ms Mottley in my view.That also applies to Rev Atheley and the others as well.Mr Reifer did not really inspire confidence at all as far as i am concerned.

    You made a good point.
    I was on the GP train and felt that any deficiency in his policies/calculations could be corrected when has additional members with different expertise.

    I did not mind his venture on the religious front and ignored many of the comments he was receiving. But then he began to tell a history that was quite different from what I know and that I felt was false. This was too large a mote for me to ignore.

    My assessment: Grenville was spreading himself too thin on too many topics and showing a mastery of none. A good man, a honest man, headstrong and often ill-informed.

    Reifer should continue with his local style campaign. if he is only to win, this is where it will happen- candidate to voter with some spot meetings and shop crawls at they call it. St George voters like to have a drink with their candidate once he is buying of course. Reifer and the DLP should forget about debates on TV. leave that to the heads of the parties at general election time.

The Attorney General said she handed in her resignation on October 1st,today is the 12th of October.Verla Depeiza called for her to resign on the 6th October.This timeline shows that Toni Moore is not about any transparency.     Often misinformed to the point of being ridiculous is our GP 2. Frighteningly so.

    Also, being headstrong would get in the way of his accepting correction from those who know better. This was blatantly obvious from his forays into the Bible.

    It was these flaws that troubled me because I have long known that being ignorant AND headstrong is deadly combination.

    Character flaws do not change with the subject matter.
