Your message to the BLOGMASTER was sent

The blogmaster has been observing the blowback to the visit by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Jamaica where a few countries in the region were invited to participate. Prime Minister Mia Mottley’s triggered the exchanges when she announced what any sensible person in the region should support.

I am conscious that if this country does not stand for something, then it will fall for anything,” she said. “As chairman of Caricom, it is impossible for me to agree that my foreign minister should attend a meeting with anyone to which members of Caricom are not invited.

Prime Minister of Barbados – Mia Mottley

Prime Minister Holness of Jamaica gave a flowery and empty explanation in response to Prime Minister Mottley and other countries in the region that took exception to the snub by Jamaica and the USA to CARICOM. Jamaica has the right as a sovereign nation to pursue bilateral initiatives with another country – why did Holness feel compelled to state an obvious point? The issue Mr. Prime Minister Holness is that Jamaica is a member of CARICOM. What is CARICOM you may ask? Here is a snippet to serve as a reminder:

…CARICOM rests on four main pillars: economic integration; foreign policy coordination;human and social development; and security.  These pillars  underpin  the  stated objectives of our  Community –

  •  to improve standards of living and work;
  •  the full employment of labor and other factors of production;
  •  accelerated, coordinated and sustained economic development and convergence;
  •  expansion of trade and economic relations with Third States;
  •  enhanced levels of international competitiveness;
  •  organization for increased production and productivity;
  • achievement of a greater measure of economic leverage;
  • effectiveness of Member States in dealing with Third States, groups of States and entities of any description;and
  • the enhanced coordination of Member States’ foreign and foreign economic policies and enhanced functional cooperation…

Caricom.org

The post meeting briefing was littered with references to CARICOM which confirm matters pertaining to the regional movement were discussed. This supports Mottley’s position that Caricom should have been FORMALLY accorded an invitation and at ‘minimum’ Mottley as Chair represent members in the spirit of enhancing coordination of Member States’ foreign and foreign economic policies and enhanced functional cooperation

The quote from the St. Kitts and Nevis representative Foreign Affairs Minister Mark Brantley sums up the current state of Caricom for the blogmaster:-

I think we would have been foolish to pass up on that opportunity. The US has been a good friend to the region, and I think it is a relationship that matters,” he said, while acknowledging that St Kitts and Nevis was not at the table for earlier talks between US President Donald Trump and a select regional group in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, centred on trade and security.

The Gleaner

A reminder this is the second time the USA snubbed Caricom.

    Has our Ambassador to Caricom, been awoken on this matter? Or is his focus the Clement Payne park alone. In the past he has been able to juggle several unrelated issues. And speak on all.

  2. @Robert

    The spread of bi-lateral and multi-lateral agreements, international bodies such as the UN, ICC etc, human rights laws which cross jurisdictions, etc, all weaken the sovereignty of the nation state.
    The rise of localism in opposition to globalism is but one fight back, but this is not in support of the nation-state, but of smaller identities – Belgium, Spain, the UK, Libya, Iraq, Italy, Lebanon, Turkey, etc, are battles for smaller communities (ethnic, language, geographical) battling for self-determination.
    In the UK the struggle is not just with Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, but Cornwall, Yorkshire, the North East and London. They all want a greater say in how they are governed.
    In the UK we have also had Brexit, to allegedly free ourselves from the EU, only to deliver ourselves to the US or China.

  3. For what it matters, I stand behind Mia.

    Not only are we in the ‘backyard’, we were informed that we are part of the outhouse (s*hole).

    No self-respecting leader of a country should work with the current administration as they have no respect for our islands.

    However Mia arrived at her stance, it was the correct one.

    The ahole in the White House lost Iraq and should have lost the ‘Out Houses’ if we were proud men/women

  4. @Northern Observer

    The script is being followed, they use social media platforms while in opposition and when they win a seat at the table to feast the modus operandi changes.

    I expect Feb 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020 to be an extremely interesting period in the UK. I will follow developments closely.

  7. The reason for the visit of that notorious warmonger, Michael Pompeo, to Jamaica is obvious and him and his KKK boss in the White House have made it clear. Basically, they want to embroil the Caribbean countries in the US regime change wars against those governments in the region that they don’t control. Talk about bilateral relations is just for the naive and easily fooled.

    Don’t think for one minute that most people in Jamaica, St Lucia, St Kitts and the others are happy to have their country dragged into these criminal activities. On the issue of deepening divisions in CARICOM Mia Mottley is right. Whatever anyone might think, a country with a population of 3 million in today’s world is a small country with no chance of going it alone. Most big cities in the world today have much larger populations.

    For those politicians who are making themselves available to the USA to use as tools, thinking they’re going to get a windfall, just remember a promise is a comfort to a fool.

    “…Pompeo also suggested that China is a threat to national security in the Latin American and Caribbean region…”

    Point 3. This essay does not have one badword to do with that IMPOTENT ORGANISATION nor any bilateral interests or economic needs of any of the Caribbean countries.

    The United States is SOLELY INTERESTED IN AND FOCUSED ON, the economic outreaches of China in the Back Door of the USA.

    all this lotta long talk bout CARICOM BEING SLIGHTED is being proposed by a political lightweight in a geopolitical battle THAT IS OUT OF HER DEPTH.

  14. Jet Blue snubs Barbados
    Could it be that those excess taxes were putting more weight on Jet Blue than they could handle
    As of April 27th Barbados would be of Jet Blue “to do things ” list

  15. Could it be that Jet Blue updated its overall fee policy?

  16. COME April 27, JetBlue will drop the Barbados flight to Fort Lauderdale.

    This was recently revealed by the airline as it unveiled a shake-up of routes, which includes a number of dropped or reduced routes, as well as the introduction of new routes.

    It was back in October 2015 that the airline announced plans to start a daily Fort Lauderdale flight to start in April 2016. The number of flights per week were later reduced.

    Responding to the announcement, Chief Executive Officer (Ag) of the Barbados Tourism Management Inc, Robert Chase, opined that this move by JetBlue will not have a significant impact on the overall performance coming out of the United States.

    “We are considering that we will be down probably a couple percentage points in seats coming from the US in the next year, but at the same time we are looking to develop new partners out of the US. So while the current situation may evolve, we are hoping it will evolve to add new seats.”

    The CEO told The Barbados Advocate: “There is still tremendous airlift out of the US with JetBlue, and our partnership with JetBlue still remains very strong. They made a commercial decision in terms of Fort Lauderdale route and they will make other commercial decisions and adjustments as they go along, but we are confident at the same time we will continue to strengthen that partnership and build other routes that we want to see come out of the US.

    “At the same time, JetBlue is not our only partner and we are always growing our partnerships with our airlift, so American Airlines continues to be a strong partner so we continue to have a large number of seats coming out of the US to service both our visitors, our Barbadian public as well as the Diaspora.

    “So we don’t think there is going to be a significant fall-out …at the same time we are very mindful that visitor arrivals is so critically tied to the presence of airlift and the competitiveness of prices is also a function of the extent to which people have choices. So we will look for new options and we will continue to grow those options, but there is no doubt that we have a strong partnership and tremendous airlift out of the US,” he said

  17. Also mire cuts that would effect fla area are expected in Oct 26th
    Affecting Ft. Myers
    West Palm Beach
    Tampa
    Orlanda
    Which will impact smaller cities in north Fla
    Jet Blue prices compared to AAA are cheaper reason why the changes will definitely have a negative impact on peoples pocket book in the Fla area with reduce flying

  18. “Jet Blue snubs Barbados. Could it be that those excess taxes were putting more weight on Jet Blue than they could handle?”

    I’m amazed how some contributors interpret articles to fit in with their political agendas.

    How could discontinuing its daily flights from Fort Lauderdale to BGI, be interpreted as “JetBlue snubbing Barbados?”

    Where is the evidence to suggest “excess taxes” were responsible for the discontinuation of the route?

    JetBlue has also dropped

    Boston: Oakland: seasonal; daily, ends April 28

    Fort Lauderdale: Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI): up to daily, ends April 28

    Long Beach: Las Vegas: reduced to two daily flights from three-times daily on April 28; Oakland: twice daily, ends April 28; Sacramento: twice daily, ends April 28; San Jose: twice daily, ends April 28

    New York JFK: Havana: daily service ends April 28, Saturday-only flights begin May 2

    Oakland: up to daily, ends April 28

    Orlando: Havana: daily, ends April 28; Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP): daily, ends April 28

    It must also be noted, JetBlue has been restructuring its map around its bases on the East Coast and was dropping routes that were financially underperforming since early 2019.

    However, there will be JetBlue flights from:

    New York to Bridgetown (JFK – BGI)
    Boston to Bridgetown (BOS – BGI)
    Newark to Bridgetown (EWR – BGI)
    Orlando to Bridgetown (MCO – BGI)

  24. Sir if u want to wrestle facts c with the removal of Jet Blue in Ft. Lauderadle all those cities mentioned some have already felt the impact of the loss of e. g Tampa
    Jet blue in Fla most dominant are for flyers out of Miami north and South fla destinations
    There is no arguing or getting around that all those cities i mentioned have been a positive source for which barbados has gained significantly
    Now tell how and where can govt Govt find the source by which these abandoned routes can be revived by another airline
    Jet Blue states that some countries in the Carribbean were unprofitable of which Barbados was one

  25. Further comments about JetBlue will be deleted.

    Rebbeca Theodore

    Circulating in the international press. This is the lying thief and criminal the people of Barbados released on the people of the Caribbean. More deadly than Roosevelt Skeritt in the island of Dominica, this woman is determined to revive the socialist principles of ALBA in the Caribbean, uphold the embattled corruption of Maduro in Venezuela, use a CARICOM diplomatic office in Kenya to launder money for her Caribbean cohorts, as she brings in a new wave of Kenyan financial firms to our Caribbean shores. Mia Mottley– the new thief and criminal on the block- the one seeking to divide and further oppress the people of the Caribbean – the one who collaborated with Skerrit in Dominica to take Ross university to evade his arrest at the hands of federal agents- the one who compensated Skerrit for Ross University by sending RSS forces to Dominica to kill and maime Dominicans standing up for their civil rights at the hands of a dictator of 25 years. – the one using IMF loans to her own personal advantage while the people of Barbados sink deeper into debt. This is Mia Amor Mottley.!

    A new and you still have this extreme animus for Trump. You are going to stress yourself out.

  29. I knew barbados interfernce in the politics of Dominca would become fodder off the backside of Mottley
    I was adamant about the way Mia seize an opportunity to take Ross University off the table and feeding mouths of the Dominica people
    As if that was not enough hence the Dominician election has presented a sorry and wilful approach of Barbados interjection in dominica politics
    Say what u like as i stated through out my comments the backlash coming from those two issues would create division between the people of Barbados and Dominica
    Yet Mia has the mitigated gall to speak about division brought about because of an invite by USA which did not include barbados
    However when one look back Mia also has created division not only amongst Caricom govt but the people of the Caricom community ( with in a year) with self serving measures that have hurt other the people and their economy
    No wonder Jamaica and St. Kitts have shown Mia the middle finger

  31. But Truly i cannot understand the psychological mindset of blacks who support Trump
    It is very hard indeed to look at Trump hear his stinking words pelted at poor countries which are made up of ethic group and not be reminded of an era of racism
    Yes i hear those who stand on the front line to support his measures
    But from my thinking a person who speaks words that are throw back to days of racism i would not in any way shape or form eat off from their table not even if my belly was hungry
    Maybe just Maybe those who stands up for trump are sleep fast asleep and have forgotten how racism was a way to hurt and torture their fore-parents
    Therefore out of deep respect for those who suffered under racist acts of tyranny i refuse to be a part of a cycle of racist rants that hurt and condemn ethic groups said by Trump

    NO ONE GETS A FREE PASS TO BE RACIST TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING!

    A Man is Judged by the Content of his Character Not the Colour of his Skin…Martin Luther king.

    RACISM is unacceptable, horrific, immature, and disgusting NO MATTER WHO IS DOING IT…

    For the past 10 years we’ve watch this horrifically racist culture being nurtured and empowered on the Left where they say it’s ok for minorities to be Racist to white Americans because “White Democrat Americans” were racist in the past towards minorities…

    This is ABSURD!!!

    YOU DO NOT OVERCOME RACISM BY BEING RACIST!

    The VAST majority of Americans are NOT racist, but you’ll never hear that from the media because it doesn’t provide the sensationalism they thrive on…

    So let’s set the record straight.

    If you think you deserve something because of the color of your skin, you’re a racist.

    If you think someone should be penalized for the color of their skin, you’re a racist.

    If you view every socio-economic problem as a racial issue, you’re a racist.

    If you think rules or laws don’t apply to you because of the color of your skin, you’re a racist.

    If you support groups, colleges, beauty pageants, scholarships, or anything else that ONLY includes or excludes based on the color of someone’s skin, you’re a racist.

    If you make a decision or cast judgment on another person BASED ON THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN, YOU’RE A RACIST!!!

  33. NOT ALL CULTURES ARE EQUAL, CULTURE IS MADE UP OF COUNTLESS DECISIONS OF PRESENT AND PAST INHABITANTS AND THEY DO NOT GO IN THE SAME DIRECTION.

    If you look at Haiti and see the Lawlessness that goes on in Haiti and that helps Haiti Constitute or make up its own Culture and you look at Barbadians and see their Considerate attitudes towards each other and who are generally law abiding. In addition, if a Barbadian was to say we do not want any Wholesale Immigration from Haiti In Barbados would that make us Racist? Alternatively, is it that you are trying to protect and defend your Culture?

    IN BARBADOS WE HAVE A SAYING ALL ROADS LEAD TO BRIDGETOWN BUT THE HAITIAN ROAD DOES NOT LEAD TO BRIDGETOWN FOR THEIR CULTURE LEADS ELSEWHERE.

    SO IF PEOPLE IN AMERICA SAY THEY DO NOT WANT SO MANY HAITIANS DOES THAT MAKE THEM RACIST OR LIKE BARBADOS THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT CULTURE WHICH THEY ARE PROTECTING?

Things that did not have nothing to do with the discussion. Austin told us this is part of the Bajan condition that is called intellectual intimidation.

    when you post from a database of right whinge tropes it proves you have no mind

    review and think about Frances Cress Welsing’s functional definition of racism to understand white supremacy racism

    “Functional Definition Of Racism = White Supremacy = Apartheid: As a black behavioral scientist and practicing psychiatrist, my own functional definition of racism (white supremacy) is as follows: “Racism (white supremacy) is the local and global power system and dynamic, structure, maintained by persons who classify themselves as white, whether consciously or subconsciously determined; which consists of patterns of perception, logic, symbol formation, thought, speech, action, and emotional response, as conducted, simultaneously in all areas of people activity (economics, education, entertainment, labor, law, politics, religion, sex, and war); for the ultimate purpose of white genetic survival and to prevent white genetic annihilation on planet Earth – a planet upon which the vast and overwhelming majority of people are classified as non-white (black, brown, red and yellow) by white-skinned people, and all of the non-white people are genetically dominant (in terms of skin coloration) compared to the genetic recessive white-skinned people.”
