Marijuana High

I read the below article in Barbados Today.

I had to laugh at the logic behind Adonijah’s reasoning. After all, he referred to Dr.Baird’s position as one engendered from ignorance. In fact, the appellation can be applied to his position as well.

Attached is an article from the Daily MailDoes marijuana make people violent? Washington state’s murder and assault rate surged 40% after drug was legalized – and experts insist that’s not a coincidence – which he would do well to peruse. I am amazed that persons without adequate scientific training can be so dogmatic in the positions taken when dealing with topics, the pros and cons of which require in depth scientific analysis.

Here is the Barbados Today article:

As far as i am aware not may persons died from AIDS either; but they do die from ARC(AIDS-related complex). I am not only looking at deaths; but what side-effects on the economy or society will unregulated MJ use have in ten years.

The Rastas etc may have been doing MJ for over 40 years; but what are side-effects on their lives; many things may not be easily seen by the human eyes etc; but are affecting them. Does the use of MJ impairs drivers of vehicles; workers on the job etc etc.

A death is easy to identify. A drug user may overdose. This is maybe easily associated with cocaine or an opioid becuase when a forensic pathologist does his examination certain things may revealed and tied with the introduction of the drug into the human body.

Also we must also come to grips with research that points to the fact that MJ is often a gateway drud to more potent drugs. I am simply asking are we prepared to handle the backlash of a possible decision to legalise MJ?

teets tend to drop out and they usually look musty and notice I say on the street while on the other hand the most alcohol use tend to do is make you drunk. You vomit say you in drinking no more sleep it off and wash and powder your face an get ready for the next round when the occasion arises
It is my view that the business of the Govt should confined to health education and security and the protection of minors up to age 18 as prescribed by law against the participation in those societal norms until they reach the age of consent and any other form of abuse but I do not believe the Govt should get into the business of legalizing or not legalizing practices like marijuana use abortion homosexuality paedophilia lesbianism same sex marriages

Hmm. What about homicide or fraud or corruption or mutiny or theft or sexual assault, etc. The many other things that we have laws on the books for. Things that adults and minors are protected against etc. Things the society has deemed to be illegal or legal?

Barbados prides itself on the ideas that we are a nation of laws etc. Most democracies preach from the same chapter and verse when it comes to a nation (f)laws dogma.

Are they any known side effect from using MJ. As it has been your experience to have seen “no MJ addicts in the RE-hab”. I may conclude that you have not seen those addicts, but not conclude that they are are “no Mj addicts”

To the best of my knowledge I have never been introduced or met any person from Vanuatu Island therefore will it be safe to conclude that since i have never seen such a person that Vanuatu Island has not residends or citizen or Vanuatu Island

    Is marijuana addictive?

Marijuana use can lead to the development of problem use, known as a marijuana use disorder, which takes the form of addiction in severe cases. Recent data suggest that 30 percent of those who use marijuana may have some degree of marijuana use disorder.18 People who begin using marijuana before the age of 18 are four to seven times more likely to develop a marijuana use disorder than adults.19

Marijuana use disorders are often associated with dependence—in which a person feels withdrawal symptoms when not taking the drug. People who use marijuana frequently often report irritability, mood and sleep difficulties, decreased appetite, cravings, restlessness, and/or various forms of physical discomfort that peak within the first week after quitting and last up to 2 weeks.20,21 Marijuana dependence occurs when the brain adapts to large amounts of the drug by reducing production of and sensitivity to its own endocannabinoid neurotransmitters.22,23

Dont worry with the BS Mark Fenty is talking.

I had two schoolmates from 6th form days in the late 60’s/early 70’s who on travelling to Trinidad to study, got hooked om marijuana. They were both excellent cricketers, who were good enough to represent the UWI team against the 1973 Australians– they are BOTH DEAD as a consequence of their addiction.

The last time I saw one of these lads, he was walking on the street close to St Augustine church in St George like a zombie, quite oblivious to everything about him. It hurt me to the core.

I have no intention of saying more about marijuana. The accredited and highly credentialed BU commenters will probably not get into even looking at the very interesting and instructive article supplied by Dr Lucas. Soon the BU brayers and brimblers will go to bark at the next topic.

I will, however, say that at post mortems I have attended, I have seen the classic mottling of lung tissues in dead persons, and have read in both Robins, Rubins and other pathology texts that smoking caused lung cancer.

I will say also that alcohol is metabolized by the liver enzymes to acetyl CoA.Some of this is used for energy in many alcoholics, and the rest is converted to fat, and results in fatty liver and cirrhosis. I have posted one of my “inferior powerpoints” on this subject some Kadooment seasons ago.

Certainly the situation with respect to alcohol and tobacco are both well researched and well established, so there is nothing much .to say about these so called “natural” substances.

Whereas it is a fact that there are a group of nicotinic receptors that are very important in the nervous system, there is no indication I know of that these are related to the nicotine in cigarettes, or cigarette smoking..

At present i believe medical professions have some dfficulty getting their patients to take their medicine as directed. it is my belief that a good bit of the medicine paid for by the taxpayers and dispensed by the National Drug Service end up being flished down toilets, or in garbage bins and thence to Mangrove landfill.

    A question for wunna.

How do medical professionals plan to get their patients to take their marijuana as prescribed?

Or are we the taxpayers going to end up paying, again, for expensive medicine only to have it flushed down the toilet or thrown on Mangrove landfill?

If people refuse to take their medicine for hypertension and diabetes, real-real killers, how are we going to get them to take marijuana for pain, which typically does not kill?

If people refuse to take their prescribed medicine because they are not aafraid of strokes, heart attacks and amputations what would we believe that they will take their marijuana pills because they are afraid of nausea or pain?

We will be wasting the taxpayers money (again)

And added that go and research and you will see that alcohol is more Addictive than marijuana, plus there is no documented evidence of anyone being overdosed from marijuana …

The fact of the matter is, GP did not really know or understand what those two guys were smoking …maybe they used to laced their marijuana ….he really did not know unless he smoked with them…

Nevertheless, let us face it the poor guy was a too young and naive to know or understand anything above lacing marijuana in the 60s …he lived sheltered love life …

And the embarrassing thing about it is that after he had realized his mistake he had the nurse run to the parking lot to call the patient back to the ER… and from that day I never put my full confidence in any doctor …

Did Charles Skeete say that pedophilia should not be legislated against???????? If we define that by the common use as having sexual relations with children then this statement is outrageous.

Are children equipped to make decisions about sexual contacts? Are they expected to be prepared to deal with the consequences? Don’t most mammals have to undergo some sort of training before their parents release them into the wild? Do newborn animals or young animals engage in sex before they mature???????

Any sexual relationship between children and adults is wrong because it would not be between equals. An adult can easily manipulate a child and wield power over him or her. The child would hardly be in a position to demand the rights afforded to a human being.

  • I am way behind on the discussion of legalization/decriminalization/medicinal marijuana.

I am at the point where those who ‘suffered’ in the war on drugs need to be made whole before we can go a step further.

It is naive for us in the Caribbean to think the US will be rushing to buy our weed. In some places the direction of weed flow has been reversed with the higher quality US stuff going south of the border.

When the US gets it’s hypocritical ‘weed acts/laws’ together, many in the Caribbean will find themselves with a lot of weed and no buyers.

It may be naive of me, but many of the mm (medical marijuana) users just want to smoke without being harassed by the police. I said many… not all.

So let’s first go through the prison system and free those who were caught up in the fake war on drugs, clear their names, and pay them damages.. like I said, I am way back there.

What if MM and MM teamed up and use mM to buy mm
    Much madness

  • Are you not aware of what is going on in the “new medical marijuana industry”?

Firstly, there is the NATURALLY grown, ORIGINAL plant and there is also the MODIFIED/TAMPERED version.

The modified versions were developed in chemical warfare labs (experimental agent (EA) EA2233- Mj with ENHANCED THC and EA1475-mdma/mali) and tested on the black population of the hip hop culture replacing “real” cannabis.

What was/is the objective?.. the Black Race.

Natural Cannabis has great medicinal value.
CANNABIDIOL (CBD) or (C21H30(OH)2), the non-psychoactive, non-neurodegenerative constituent of cannabis, is the healing medicinal property that balances the “high” negative component also present in natural cannabis. CBD does not give the “high”, THC does and by that, one can prove its veracity.
THC is the non-medicinal, neurodegenerative chemical damaging cells in the brain and lowering testosterone production levels in the testicles.

Understand that testosterone and serotonin are the bio-chemical basis for the “dominance and drive for power” in the Black race, loss or decrease of these biochemicals puts user in sub victorious moods..
Gestating pregnant women significantly damage the fetus (bio-chemically) through use of high THC level marijuana.
Smoke from high THC marijuana produces acidic chemicals call phenols, estrogen enhancing chemicals which acts to create hormone imbalances and changes, “converting” women and men into their opposite sex behaviour.

CBD has been grafted out from 40+% in its natural form to less than 0.5% in the modified version and THC from less than 0.2% to 14+%, to “moon rock” (street name) 40-60% and “Dragon B” (street name) to 90% THC.

Natural HIGH CONTENT (CBD) Cannabis is the most valuable commodity in medical healing remedies .

THC which gives the “high” promotes mind body communication, just enough to facilitate theta state interaction between the two… It enhances creative abilities as well. It (theta state) is otherwise achieved via deep meditation.
When channeled sequentially, restores those physical systems linking body to Spirit to an optimum state.

CBD on the other hand works to aid and support required biochemicals and biosystems of the physical body into balanced and optimum states or homeostasis of immune and central nervous systems via attachments to receptors in brain and cascading those impluses and biochemicals correcting imbalances

The ENDO-CANNABINOID SYSTEM is a network of cells with receptors for CBD.
    Other systems with receptors are..
    Central Nervous System
    Lymph System
    Immune System..(intestines,spleen and bladder)

“What is the mortality rate for those rastas who smoke weed every day?”
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The same as for those paunch-belly executives who smoke a pack or two of B&H or Marlboro a day.

Or even those middleclass housewives who drink more than 3 gin and tonics or rum & ‘coke’ a day out of sheer boredom while looking for some action in the bedroom.

Since in the eyes of the Bajan Jehovah there is no ‘little sin or Big Sin’ we ought to consider the need for a modern day “Temperance” movement to lobby Parliament to put an end to not only marijuana consumption through it becoming punishable by death but also to the ‘legalized’ habits of cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption.

  • Why is the common perception that legalising Cannabis will increase access to the drug, when in actual fact, particularly for the young/teenagers, legalising and regulating effectively the production and sale of cannabis would likely reduce their access to the drug.

Currently in an un-regulated market, there is no-one stopping your school-aged child from getting access to Cannabis – it has been shown that prohibition does not restrict supply, and in an unregulated market, do you think a dealer will care what the age of their customer is? If it is easier for a child to get hold of cannabis, than it is for them to get legal drugs such as alcohol or cigarettes, then what are they more likely to try/consume, when going through their personal development and rites of passage? This follows the same narrative as the miss-guided theory of Cannabis being a gateway drug. If you direct our youth, through the laws of the land, that they have to go to the black market to purchase their drug of choice, then they will through necessity use the black market/street dealer. Q.What is a dealer trying to do? A. Sell them drugs, as many as possible, to make that money, unregulated and tax free income. So what is the Dealer going to encourage the young customer to do, why try something else on his menu-card of products – “not got any weed at the moment, all out, why not try these [insert drug of choice], it’ll give you just as good a buzz”…

If the market for cannabis was regulated, then there’d be age restrictions on the purchasing of cannabis (similar to alcohol), only being available from licensed retailers, who would be paying taxes, and not trying to upsell a youthful purchaser to other more addictive and damaging narcotics. By starving the black market of a line of revenue, then this should in-turn reduce crime rates and gang violence, by bringing an un-regulated black market under the control of the Government, who could then regulate and police it more effectively.
