The seemingly small gesture of Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, of recommending her father for a knighthood speaks volumes about the way how she intends to govern, or should I say rule, this country. It is another clear clear indication that Miss Mottley is hell bent on establishing the closest thing to royalty in Barbados, with her friends and family as the upper class.

The people of this country should not be surprised by the indecent haste with which the PM procured the appointment for daddy dearest. It would appear that indecent haste is the hallmark of everything associated with this new Mottley administration. The indecent haste of amending the Constitution to secure the appointment of friends to the Senate. The indecent haste of terminating public workers, ostensibly to save money, rather than go after tax defaulters who owe in excess of one billion dollars to the Treasury. And let’s not forget the indecent haste of rushing legislation through parliament to forgive tax defaulters who failed to pay their taxes between 1968 and 2000. They are many others but these are just a few examples of the haste and bad judgment that has characterised this administration so far.

However, I want to concentrate on the recommendation to Her Majesty the Queen, to award the Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (KCMG) to the Prime Minister’s father. It looks bad. Someone close to the PM, maybe the knight himself, should have told her how it looks.

Like many, I am not concerned about the criteria for awarding the knighthood, since over the centuries, the monarch of England have granted such distinctions to a variety of scoundrels for service to the Crown. That is not to say that any of the current recipients of high honour are scoundrels. For example, a pirate, Francis Drake, was knighted for service to the Crown.

To my mind, the appointment has less to do with service to this country and is more about setting up an upper class in this country, with the Prime Minister and her family as the queen and court. From now on Sir Elliot and his wife Lady Mottley have the right to parade around the world with a Barbados Diplomatic passport as long as they live. Again, to my mind, this particular knighthood is more about the perks than the honour itself.

Gimme the vote and watch muh take care of my friends and family to the exclusion of all others.

    One can speculate that when the decision was made to elevate Elliott Mottlet to the Knighthood the PM would have expected blowback from the public and decided she could withstand the hit. Time will tell.

    The Mottleys had diplomatic passports before….what is your beef? Lobby for Senators to get diplomatic passports if you are not entitled right now and then you would be part of the upper class.

    We should also ask if Knight number 2 is willing to declare his campaign contributions in the lead up to May 2018. After all, the stages and the leather seats couldn’t have come cheap. Many many favours to cash in. Many many.

    TThe only people not surprised by this move are all the Mottley pooch lickers, those appointed to sweet paying positions, and those who have benefitted from the constitutional moves to make sure that the right hands are in place.

    Oh, by the way, Jeff Cumberbatch, I thought you said it was not easy to change the constitution?

    I said I will not comment on Mottley until she shows her true colours or proves me wrong that she will not operate in rogue. Once a rogue always a rogue. All the talk coming out of her BLP camp about corruption running rampant by the DLP has culminated so far into nothing. Not a boy from the DLP will be investigated or call to account. Mottley got what she always wanted, the royalties of being Prime Minister and with those perks, she must now bestow further status on her family members. Does she care about the backlash, talk, criticism, or anger she will stir by this move? Not at all. She is Prime Minister and she is no longer hungry for that power. She got it!

    For your information senators are entitled to diplomatic passports and I am probably the only member of parliament that has not applied for one so far. I am presently out of the island on a planned vacation and and have used an ordinary Barbados passport. Those trappings and perks of office do not excite. I will always be Caswell with or without a diplomatic passport.

    By the way, all senators were given applications during orientation and so far, I have not submitted mine. Unlike some of you who applied when you were elected as members of parliament and then had to bother the Immigration Department to have them changed when you became ministers.

    but there is no HASTE by Mia..to LOCK UP any of the DLP ministers and. business people who STOLE FOM TAXPAYERS AND PENSIONERS…no HASTE at all to REPATRIATE all those offshore accounts with stolen millions and stolen properties…and RETURN IT ALL TO THE PEOPLE….who are ALIVE or their BENEFICIARIES…if they are deceased.

The current Governor General not criticizing her as I love and respect dearly but has she made a greater contribution to the legal fraternity and country greater than Sir. Elliott. Richard Sealy as a minister and Freundel Stuart’s buddy saw his father being made a Knight. Warwick Franklyn who has done absolutely nothing for the country other than Carsicot has been Knighted.
    I want shitty naked,classless Caswell Franklyn to understand that his common Trump like behavior has no room in Barbados farless in politics. Our country need quality people to lead it from the morass of the last bunch and surely his level of descent cannot provide a better future for future generations.
    He cannot succeed in bringing neither the Prime Minister nor her highly respected highly intellectual and a distinguished Barbadian, scholar and legal luminary to his gutter. I am a absolutely sure they cannot reach there and will not attempt.
    I would advise him to take the Nelson Street level of discourse and debate from the Hallowed walls if this most honourable chamber ad most of of us who csme from down there have not only been taken from the gutter but me made sure in our rise we took the gutter out of us.

    This gentleman has made a most significant contribution to law snd the legal profession not only in Barbados but the wider Caribbean. I am embarrassed at the thought that this could be brought down to a diplomatic passport and in any case they both deserve them. You have not applied for yours because you simply dont deserve one. I cannot for the life of me imagine why the respected Bishop and leader of the opposition would want to associate himself with such a disrespectful and uncouth misogynist. The little common boy comes out every time he speaks snd for dome readon he seems to feel proud and post every article sriund social media. I want to personally congratulate Sir. Elliott on his elevation and wish he and his beautiful wife ad first parents God’s richest blessings. May longer life,good health and happiness be their fortune..

    Owen Arthur warned us but some of you all have been drunk on the kool aid and would not listen to reason.

    Prodigal Daughter should be schooled on protocol ,optics etc – now that she has been given one of those advisors position by Mia – she should stay away from making nasty personal remarks as she did about Caswell.That worked when you were there congregating in the Opposition’s office Prodigal – but my sincere advice to you is to stop with these nasty,remarks that you used to make on BU and elsewhere on Social Media – now that you have been elevated to the position you have been given – because wunna cuss the Dems about Consultants and Advisers – and you are enjoying one of the very same position.

    Like I always say – if the Dems wanted cussing – cuss them – it is your right.However I am here to show up the double standards of what is taking place in our country – when ever man down to de garbage collector or de maid was encouraged to cuss de last government for every fault – real or perceived.

    Now it seems -yuh think that Mia is to be exempt from criticism.

    I did not post anything about the Mottley’s very bad reputation about not paying their debts – because I prefer to concentrate on governance issues – but something things in public officials personal lives – will seep out -to give persons an idea about – ‘WHAT MANNER OF MAN IS THIS !

    When you would not pay your debts to poor hardworking people;

    Or as others have been commenting on this notion of entitlement or royalty;

    Then as David/BU had earlier hinted on another blog – the former Prime Minister’s Bloodline speech – given during the elections is apt.It shows you how in his view – and seemingly being borned out now – how the Mottleys think – AND IT IS CERTAINLY NOT ABOUT ALTRUISM.

    I will never forget how Owen – the former Prime Minister – no less – was nearly moved to tears – when he spoke about how Mia tried to treat him as if he was the yard boy – and how he could remain quiet no more on Mia Mottley dastardly acts.

    I think Mia is going to be overtaken by hubris – if she isn’t already – but she will soon get a very stern lesson when she realizes that the public of this country is not as heavily enamoured with her as she thinks – bar a few gullible and greedy ones.

    On a last note – Caswell can defend himself – but I just think this government should know that he has a huge following of Independent minded citizens – who follow his remarks in the Senate carefully – and look to him to speak out on issues that are of concern to us all.

    He cuss the Dems – and they never tried to rip him apart – and the Nation newspaper gave him free reign to criticize the last administration because they at that BLP media house and people like you prodi – gal like it because it was to your benefit.

    I am amazed that the senator would stoop to such gutter levels in this matter. Not once did he mention that Sir Elliot was not deserving of this national award, should a person who’s contribution merits such rewards be disqualified because of their connection to the Prime Minister? I think not. I would more expect the good senator to make suggestions as to those deserving such honours but being overlooked, maybe because of social status to be granted such, I am sure they are a few.

    I was willing to give Mia the benefit of the doubt, knowing the worth of her parents, but it is proving a struggle after this monumental lack of judgment.

    This whole saga is deeply depressing. Since my arrival on the island I saw a headline in The Nation claiming that Caswell was the man of the year in our country. I have read other such snippets in the written media and have heard similar on the airwaves. It is evident that this man is viewed with respect and is regarded as someone of high integrity.

    This would have been a non-story if Mia’s father had the good grace to decline his daughter’s offer of a knighthood. It is deeply disturbing that he was unable to turn down this invitation. And as such, the country needs to be on standby that their leader is a deeply flawed character who appears incapable to distinguish between right and wrong.

    Seven months in power and I remain a pessimist of our entitled Prime Minister. Is she truly capable of building a country for the majority of her citizens or will her leadership be defined by a small court of equally privilege individuals who remain loyal at her side unwilling to tell her some home truths.

    Just to correct the BLP poster joe/jonathan/bajan – Mr Barrow did not give his sister the award.

    Secondly Prodi – Gal and her tribe have been arguing that the Dems give Franklyn,hilary beckles etc knighthoods. However it bears pointing out that Hilary received his knighthood from Owen and the BLP.

    But worse of all none of the prime ministers ever gave their close siblings a knighthood or the award of Dame like Mia gave her father.

    At a time when thousands of low level civil servants being thrown on the breadline,and when barbadians have been bearing the weight of more taxes, and when Mia stop paying the county’s debt as she goes to borrow money from the IMF – imagine the thing that consumes her that she has to do in 7 months time – is to give her father a knighthood.

    It seems that is what has been keeping her up at nights – and not the mothers and fathers sent home from government – with no one else at home working;

    Or the tailspin businesses have been put in because she has defaulted on the debt;

    Or the thousands of Retirees and Pensioners who will not be getting back their principal or be earning the moneys on their investment in government paper – as has been agreed by the previous government – and we are told government is a continuum – and if there is a contractual agreement it should have been honoured

    But Mia was concerned in bringing home her friend Kay Mcconney,and changing the Constitution for she and Tom Adam’s son.

    She was concerned about making sure her bag man Avinash Persaud – gets some top dollars from all the consultancies and Board positions he is given;

    She was concerned that her friends like Carol Roberts,Selma Husbands,Jessica Odle,Commisung her cousin and the like are well taken care of in jobs paid for by taxpayers.

    Is this change or exchange people ?

    Didn’t Mia Mottley railed and protested against these said things under the last government ?

    Wunna got to read these things right. Mia believes she can do all she nasty,unethical deeds – early up in her first term and then reward you afterward just before elections.

    Actually a privateer engaged in the furtherance of the interests of the Crown and of course one of the few first persons to circumnavigate the globe.

    Perhaps, what we should to is buy plans for the barrel off this guy, manufacture some and put our knights and dames in them so they too can qualify like Sir Francis.

    The coast guard can tow them out to sea so they too can claim the distinction of circumnavigating the globe!!

    All govts have failures.Remeber that Erskine Sanford was call the worst of the worst
    History has a way of separating Truth from lies and deception
    Truth be told is that on the 24th May people voted for change and that change was Mottley
    So live with it .
