How The Hell Would Anyone Know That This Resort Is In Barbados An English Speaking Country? Since when did Barbados Relocate to China? This Sign Must Be Removed. It Is An Insult To The People of Barbados!

The following composed by Heather Cole

Anyone offended by the above title should also be deeply offended by the disturbing signage outside of Sam Lords Castle that is now being rebuilt.  This historic property has been a part of Barbados since the days of Slavery.  It comes packaged with folklore about the exploits of Samuel Lord, who has since been immortalized in song by the Merry Men regarding his exploits as a pirate, hanging lanterns on coconuts trees for ships to run aground on the reef so that he could pillage its treasure.

It is unfortunate that the property was allowed to run to ruin.  All Barbadians are happy at the prospects of it being rebuilt bringing jobs.  However, Barbadians do not speak far less read Chinese.  No one knows what the signage says.   We speak a Bajan dialect and English is our national language.  Our days of colonialism ended in 1966.  We have a flag that is blue and gold not red and white, we have a Coat of Arms on which is written in English “Pride and Industry” not Chinese Characters, we have a national anthem that is written in English.

Chinese is not the national language of Barbados.   Signage in Chinese must not be allowed on such a significantly historical property in Barbados.   If the Chinese want to build a Sam Lords Castle in Shanghai, Shandong, Guangdong, Sichuan, Henan or any of the other Chinese Provinces they would be well within their rights to put Chinese characters at the entrance but not in Long Bay, St Philip Barbados, the signage must be remove immediately.  It is an insult to all Barbadians.

One wonders if it was done in oversight by the Government or on deliberate action.  However, there is no Chinese sign on the Gymnasium.  In Barbados we have a preference for other cultures to assimilate to our culture and our language and want to keep it that way.  Mrs. Ram Mirchandani has a hotel in Barbados and there is no signage at the entrance in any of the Indian languages. The previous owners of Sam Lords Castle kept its original name and in the English language. Why can’t the Chinese?

    True.
Bushie really belongs in another world, but what the Heck….. since he is here….. 🙂

    Voluntary unions….?
Shiite woman….you bring new meaning to the concept of a ‘Delilah’.
Always on the lookout for a new man with a little more money to offer than the current model…

…and when you were younger, it was a constant lookout for a bigger bamboo, (thus the lotta EX’es?) ….but now that your sweetness has gone sour, you are on the lookout for more Renminbi ….

  2. Its very disrespectful to Bajans and the history of the island

Lol…Simple…don’t mind the BU jealousiratti….women are intelligent enough in this era to want stability and ambitious, prosperous unions at the same time…

…… the days of the broke, abusive village ram that believes a big black bamboo means something in an intelligent Black female’s mind….belongs to another era….and now only means something to white tourists, both male and female….

The intelligent Black female has moved on from the stagnation, poverty, abuse and ungratefulness from the black male…..and are looking for likeminded partners….even if it crosses cultural groups.

So the BU men can fuss and fret as much as they want, it is what is and will be highlighted even more with new generations of females who will never settle for less…and why should they…

……the men will have to be taught to rise up to the female’s growing levels of awareness instead of trying to drag Black females down to their own dim futures level…….or….the men will just have to stick to being big, black bamboo gigolos for whites….their choice.

    New era.

These days on facebook, there are black men being highlighted as proud fathers….they are given encouragement and support by facebook members to continue the trend, embrace their offspring and the black family, they know if they don’t, they will lose it and destroy their own futures and bloodlines.

So let the Caribbean male continue with the useless village ram mentality and negligence of his family and see what happens in the next 3 decades.

“No talk about force here. VOLUNTARY unions.”

Precisely! Voluntary unions indeed! Unlike what your female ancestors had to ‘forcibly’ submit to.

Would the liberated educated black women of the Barbados today be prepared to be part of “voluntary unions” with riff raff excess-to-requirements Chinese men many of whom would have been to jail and could have dabbled in homosexual acts even if only out of a burning desire caused by a marked absence of willing Chinese females?

BTW, why do you, in conjunction with WW&C, research the views of Chinese regarding black women before proposing unions between people whose cultural practices are far apart as Pygmies are from Eskimos?

Why are you trying to persuade black Bajan women into becoming ‘comfort women’ to yellow short ‘dicks’ when, like the Chinese pandas, they have grown up ‘sucking on’ pure bamboo of the long and thick black and brown varieties?

The future of the black race- whether in the East or the West- lies in the hands of the same educated black woman; not in the groins of any ‘yellow’ belly ex-convicts.

Let the black women choose ‘discriminatingly wisely’ their black sexual partners for Nature’s ultimate satisfaction thereby passing on good genetic material to their male offspring whose values would be fashioned by a more self-assured enlightened woman and father, married or unmarried.

Not trying to persuade Black females if any group in particular or anything Miller….dont know when last you have been to Barbados, but you should and take a look around, while some are trying, most of your Black males are not exactly Black family oriented or father material either,.

…….so no one has to persuade Black females that they are backing mostly losers which will ultimately do more harm than good should they CHOOSE to remain in abject poverty and abuse as is the norm…be perpetual victims of the black male and everyone else, therefore Black females are learning to choose wiselly for the preservation of their own furture generations….of whichever cultural group they choose….

If you look around even more, you will see many of them have already chosen across cultural lines…and not of the Chinese variety either….and have been doing so for decades….

And it’s Black males, not me, to blame for that ongoing trend.

Who says females must stick with the males within their own groups anyway….where is that written….nature has no such laws in place…lol

So why not recommend East Indians?

There is a similar excess of Indian males because of the same cultural preference for male babies as opposed to the ‘future’ burden of girl babies.

At least the black women would have more physically attractive ‘dougla’ children than those with porcine slits of genetic mismatching.

Or are you for them renting out their wombs (like Mary) to the richer boys from the East?

  9. @Miller

Cant tell anyone whom they should choose as partners, but if you read my post again I did in fact state that bajan females are indeed choosing partners across cultural lines, I just did not identify the groups….and yes East Indians are one of the groups…

……there are not many Asian groups in Barbados, that I know, but there has been some cross culture marriages and family rearing going on there as well in Barbados..

…..Canada is where you find a large Asian population, Caribbean, not so much.

There are many, many dougla children growing up as the new generation of bajans…as I said the Black female has to look out for the self preservation of herself and her future generations so they are not stuck in the culture of stigmas and old world labels….

  11. Miller

Chuckle…… Dah body ain e’en sea BIM pun uh card.

I know you are aware that the rubbish propaganda is untrue as only a few misogynistic ones exist today……of greater note is the increase of father’s accepting their role as father and spending time with their offsprings.

  13. David

It takes time as I have seen that mixing occur in Guyana and T&T.

  14. I discovered on a UPP site that this sign thing has become political…. So expect in this silly season many pejorative terms to be used……common sense having fleed to brutish beasts.

  15. I see the resident demented cut and past artist is now pimping back women. Is this another way of debating morality, having children out of wedlock and the rubber-stamping of such behaviour by our political and legal institutions?

WW& C, no person in their right cultural mind would kick against Mother Nature’s prick by trying to stop the world from becoming a rainbow nation.

What sound-minded people would oppose is the constant denigration of black men by black women by portraying them as lowlife deadbeats while their white ‘opposite numbers’ don’t share such ‘relationship’ hang-ups.

Black men cannot treat black women with disrespect unless those black women allow that to happen.

In the ‘higher’ zoological scheme of things the black female is the top predator, not the emasculated black males in the West.

BTW, it is the black female who has been imparting the norms and values governing relationships between the devils from Mars and the angels from Venus.

Remember she is the one who is the only “head” of the one-parent household raising black boys and girls so prevalent among blacks in the Diaspora.

Let the educated black female step up to the plate of social reform and the boy children will look on and learn.

But black women do have the option of going to the sperm bank to always withdraw instead of depositing.

The choice is always there for her while the black male has to take what’s on offer or else it’s called rape.

It was a malicious intent using that temporary sign to create havoc, knowing the english translation was on the otherside of the wall, politely asking that the english translation was made central may have gone down better with some people.

…..saw some people make comments on facebook couple days ago, the protest was not well received by those who actually knew what the sign meant in Chinese and knew it was not permanent…..but who wants to make themselves foolish by crying wolf…..totally up to them, I wont even judge…lol

Xenophobic might be a harsh word…afraid of the unknown might be more appropriate, misguided in which protests should take priority might even be a better description..

It would be nice to see that same energy used to dismantle the corruption among the politicians ministers and minority groups that rob the population blind…..being as effectively carried out..

…….and enticing the majority population to breed just to enrich others as cheap labor and slave labor while remaining in generational poverty……vigorously protested and outlawed.

Miller….Don’t fpr one minute think that the white male population is not infested wuth deadbeats….females avoid them like the plague….ya dont even date that type of trash…but the majority white male population are aware that to preserve their future generations, they must keep their families together as their priorities…regardless if they cross cultural lines or not. .

The Black male….still mostly uneducated in that respect, still take fatherhood and family life for granted and the whole burden is still put on the female. …to be the cohesion that keeps her family together. …they still dont get it, most of them, that the responsibility for family is shared, that is why most women, of every variety figured out that it’s best to visit sperm banks rather than deal with the male drama….no one wants that nonsense anymore in their lives if it can be avoided, particularly well educatedfemales who are well paid professionals….that is best left in the darkages where village rams still reside.

Many young men today, even in the Caribbean, because of the absence of fathers in their lives, are trying to make a difference in the lives of their offspring….to reverse that decades old trend.

But there are still too many who dont….and its not the Black females demonizing them, they are demonizing themselves…as an elder you can start educating the ones you know..reverse the miseducation…in the hoods.

  20. Look what is going on in Barbuda, where the slave-owning Codrington family bequeathed the land to the descendants of slaves, Gaston Browne now wants to grab the land from collective ownership and sell freeholds to tourists and money-launderers from Europe and North America.
This is what these vile governments do. We must defend the Barbudans.

  23. Vincent,
It is an important principle – selling off land from locals to hedge fund managers and money launderers. Keep the common ownership in place. Save Barbuda. We must not allow Hurricane Irma to be a Trojan horse.
How can you fire one minister for suspected corruption, then introduce a morally corrupt policy of your own?

  24. Hal

Interesting to note that we are having a discussion on slavery and its iniquities of 200 years ago and exhibits of its cruelty at Cave Hill tonight but not a thought to present day happenings.

Caribbean govts failings,Barbuda nor Libya would never cross their minds as they fight 200 year old battles…..what a waste.

    @ Hal,

I have not been following the news on Barbuda. Thanks for raising the matter. It would appear that the island is being primed to be marketed and sold to Johnny Foreigner. The link below is highly informative and well written.

    https://www.irinnews.org/investigations/2017/10/11/barbuda-hurricane-hit-paradise-sale

  26. Talking Loud,
Our politicians and public intellectuals often have a one-dimensional mind. If tourism works in Barbados, then St Vincent wants to try it; it high-end property works in St Martin, then Antigua wants to try it.
Common land ownership is one of the most progressive and realistic land development policies anywhere in the world. The fact that a former slave-owner bequeathed it to descendants of former slaves makes it even more progressive. Some time ago we had a long discussion about the Quakers. This is one of the good things that come out of Quakerism.
We must stop selling freehold land to foreigners, any property they buy must be on leasehold, and none longer than 25 years. If they do not like it, then go else where.

Here we have a proud and independent island nation, which has a few financial challenges. So along come the Chinese, where few else would dare to tread, and agree to finance, and it would appear partially build, a new hotel. They erect a sign in their language and all Shiite breaks loose.
I invite you to visit Toronto in the summer and take in Caribana. We have “assimilated” so well, we are even invited to share our cultural heritage. The streets in Canada’s biggest city get shut down. Traffic bedlum. Mass all ovah.
Now, would it be reasonable to imagine, pictures are being taken, and transmitted back to China showing ‘the excellent work being done elsewhere’. Should we expect them to read English? Possibly they are hoping Chinese nationals maybe a new source of tourist arrivals. Multi lingual signage cannot hurt?
It is a sign. They are not rewriting the constitution in Mandarin. Xenophobic maybe pushing it, but it is well within the realm of intolerance.
We want yah money, but nothing else?

  29. @NorthernObserver

Your comment is unkind to the majority of Bajans. Many of us are tired of seeing Barbados get carved up and bought out by the Trinis and whoseverwill. Bajans have reacted in this context. The Chinese have been with us since the construction of the gymnasium and Queens College.

  36. How many Chinese live in Barbados ?

There are more than 500,000 living in Toronto.

  37. @Northern

Someone wrote that the English version was on the other side of the sign which if true would cast a whole different light on the issue and would suggest that the author of the piece is a mischief maker. Not sure what your point is about the Toronto carnival, with all the traffic and inconvenience it is still a money maker for the city, if the merchants, innkeepers and restaurateurs didn’t enjoy large profits it wouldn’t exist in its present form.

Raising children is both time consuming and expensive, so therefore every mother wants a man who is willing and able to provide for children born in the union. And this is especially important if there are multiple children born, as child rearing can inhibit a woman’s participation in the paid work force.

So what’s wrong with prosperous men?

Also please note that ambitious men, and rich men deserved to be loved too.

Dear David: When “behind closed doors mixing” is taking place neither you nor I are likely to be present.

    Lol!!!

But I know that I first saw half Chinese children showing up in the polyclinics more than ten years ago.

But then again the the elderly aristocratic people who blog on BU don’t go to the well baby clinics at the polyclinics.

So how would you know what is going on?

In migrant groups the mixing occurs first among ordinary people who don’t have many choices and who are happy to find a good man or good woman regardless of race, religion etc.

It won’t be the daughters of the political class or the business class who will cohabit with the Chinese men. They have plenty money and plenty choices.

“Caribana, is a festival of Caribbean culture and traditions held each summer in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is frequented by over 1.3 million visitors each year for the festival’s final parade and an overall attendance of 2 million. The festival brings in over one million people to Toronto and over $400 million into Ontario’s economy, annually.
