Not Me and Prince Harry!

Henry Charles Albert David Windsor, also known as Prince Henry of Wales, is a Caucasian young man whose only claim to fame is that he once shocked his own British society by attaching a Swastika symbol to his arm and dressing up as a German Nazi!
Yet, our country’s Government Information Service has informed us– the citizens of Barbados– that our Barbados Government will be according this Nazi-costume-loving-young man a red carpet welcome, replete with ceremonial bowing and scraping on the part of our phenotypically Black or African Prime Minister, Governor General, Commissioner of Police and Defence Force Chief of Staff !
We have also been informed that the said Prince Henry (or Prince Harry as he is often called) will be presiding over such important elements of our 50th Anniversary of Independence celebrations as the “Reveal of the 50th Anniversary of Independence Monument ceremony” and the “Independence Day Parade” at the Garrison Savannah.
Well, I don’t know about the rest of my fellow Barbadian citizens, but this “News” has spoilt the whole 50th Anniversary Independence celebrations for me!
I was really looking forward to attending such historic events as the 50th Anniversary Monument ceremony and the Independence Parade, but my mind simply revolts against the very thought of standing or sitting in a crowd of my fellow Barbadians and watching this strange English Prince– or any other English Prince, Queen or King for that matter– presiding over such sacred national events.
To tell the truth, it really sickens me to the core that 50 years after allegedly achieving the status of sovereign, independent nationhood, our country still continues to bow down to Queen Elizabeth 11 and her “heirs and successors” as our Queen, Monarch and Head of State !
As far as I am concerned this is a national embarrassment of massive proportions !
And so, in order to spare myself what I know will be frightful pangs of embarrassment and psychic pain, I have decided that I will not be attending any of the 50th Anniversary of Independence events that Prince Harry will be presiding over.
I have decided to attempt to bring this decision to the attention of the Barbadian public because I suspect that there are many other Barbadians who feel exactly as I do, and I would like to make them aware of the solution to the issue that I have devised for myself.
I now take this opportunity to wish Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and all the other 29 Members of Parliament a happy and blessed Independence Day !

    I have no certain knowledge of the Drax DNA in the Barbados of today however the sperm of Cumberbatch is firmly planted here and would no doubt confirm their lineage with the pride and industry of which Barrow spoke.Among them are distinguished professionals in agriculture,medicine,teaching,horticulture and fine arts.

    In my writings at 6.53pm i’m referring to the remnants of the surviving members of their descendants who would have benefited, significantly, over the centuries in having inherited the family silver. I would imagine that the majority of them would now be living in fine style somewhere in the USA or the UK.

    The point i was trying to make was this: if Mr Drax’s were still alive today we would have probably invited him over to celebrate our fiftieth year of independence. Why young Harry or any other British person should have been invited to celebrate our independence is puzzling?

    Gabriel, i get the impression that we Bajans are some of the most ignorant black people on the face of this planet. I watch from afar and can only shake my head in pity.

    When it’s not one diseased bloodline trying to gain, retain control and haunt the earth and it’s people, it will be another, that is the mark of the beast that has to be exposed.

    It’s the escarpment I worry about …. the land beneath it moves and the face separates.

    Springs abound in the face and water moves mountains.

    Newcastle to Bathsheba and other areas under the cliff where a lot of people live must be a concern.

    I think the folks in White Hill know by now to get out from frequent experience but it has been a long time since events like the Crabhole (St. Elizabeth Village) landslip (1784) and the one at Boscobelle (1901) happened.

    The Boscobelle Landslip occurred after 15 inches of rain fell in three days.

    So if the kind of rain I have seen here in the South fell in the Scotland District, it isn’t far fetched to imagine the worst.

    Hope not.

    Where are the books on 50 years of constitutional independence? Where is the cultural history of post-independence Barbados? A part from Hilbourne Watson’s study, where are the political biographies of Barrow, Tom Adams (not hagiographies), St John, Sandiford, Arthur and others?
    Where is the post-independence oral history of Barbados? Where is the post-independence history of education in Barbados? A economic history?
    I suggested laast year to aa well known Barbadian pubic intellectual that he should get about ten people to write 10000-word essays on what independence means to them. He did not act on it.
    I also suggested that a major publishing house should republish the Independence issue of New World, and read in particular the Tom Clarke essay, describing the social significance of the gulf between Combermere (now the Transport Board) and Harrison College.
    Apart from partying, a few ecumenical religious services, what is the meaning of our independence. Even the university is doing a joint study of Barbadian and Guyanese independence. Why do we need a joint study?

    So you see why holding on to the Monarchy could just work wonders for Bim especially in this period of most forex need.

    Britain and Canada represent two of Barbados’s biggest tourism markets and sources of private FDI. Both are also big fans of the Monarchy. The hundreds of millions spent by the BTMI could never provide the kind of returns on investment the presence of any member from the Royal House of Windsor can achieve.

    Not a word from the PM about any republic status for Barbados in her 51st year.
    If Bim was a republic all the ceremony, pageantry on display all based on the British monarchical system would have been totally out of place and not worthy of the attraction of the thousands of attendees and onlookers.

    Come on people, get real you can’t have the Crown & Sceptre and the trooping of the colours while behaving like a banana republic. Those officers in both the Police and Defence Forces would be most upset if they are forced to ditch their royal chevrons and crowns, royal medallions and badges of imperial rank.

    But don’t worry Hants. Bim would soon have to show its true colours by deciding if its people want to finally ditch the broken trident (a symbolic gesture of an amiable break from Old Britannia) and go full banana republic.

    Fidel was born in the same year as Queen Lizzie. He has gone and poor old Lizzie cannot continue forever (unlike the Methuselah or the rather young President of another banana republic called the Gambia,Yahya Jammeh, who declares he will rule for a billion years).

    So what should poor Bim do? Continue as if nothing will happen to the old queen?
    Or should the country be proactive and prepare for the inevitable? Under both scenarios the Constitution is in for a series of amendments in the very near future. Why not go and prepare proactively for a massive overall?

    Why not seek the cooperation of either people by way of early elections with republic status the main plank of your electioneering.

    The Opposition by any stretch of the imagination cannot object to such a move to really bring the people to the heart of Governance without a Governor General.

    How much money re the reparationists asking for and how will it be distributed? Two years ago I chaired a meeting in London with two academics and a lawyer about this issue and I thought it was put to rest then.

    Harry was the fall guy, drew the short straw, 5th in line to the throne, all he can do is relay the message, it is a good move to give the message, let buckingham palace know that except for the yardfowls with no self-respect or dignity and who will always be emptyheaded yardfowls, eg ACs, Alvins etc, etc, they are no longer dealing with deaf, dumb and blind black people who are bobble dolls aiming to please.

    Bring something to the table or get the same message when they return to Barbados, by then the earth would have purged itself of Liztherat and Philipthemonster, by then it might be one of William’s or Harry’s children dropping in..
