Trumps has grabbed the headlines across the globe although for the wrong reason. His disparaging exchange with Billy Bush -captured on a hot mike- and exposed by the US media about women is sure to derail his presidential campaign. What it does is to setup tomorrow’s second presidential debate to attract unprecedented viewership.

It also brings into question to what extent should the electorate hold political aspirants/candidates accountable for personal views. Secondly, how active should traditional media be in sharing the personal views of candidates to informed a mostly ‘ignorant’ electorate. Social media cannot be accused of suppressing information.

    Anyone else looked at the old women that Trump seated up front at the debate last night and wondered, Wow, Bill Clinton must have really been scraping the bottom of the barrel if all the allegations were true. I don’t think that strategy worked!

    Now people are blaming Trump and Hillary on the US education system.

    Canada has a fine education system, but the prime minister is a crowd-pleasing Mama’s boy with a lisp who barely graduated from college. His most demanding job before becoming PM was teaching in a high school.

    The UK has a great education system but the British prime minister is a geography graduate who used her social connections to get a job in a bank. Her main accomplishment as a politician before being promoted to Number 10 was hiding from public view during the Brexit referendum.

    Politics everywhere attracts second-rate and third-rate leaders. Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Lyndon Johnson were educated at some of America’s worst colleges. Gerald Ford, Dwight Eisenhower and Hillary Clinton were bottom-of-the-barrel students.

    Trump succeeded is shoring up his base but they will stick with him come hell or high water so nothing new there. He kept swinging for the fences but ended up hitting a lot of lazy fly balls (to use a baseball analogy). Trump is a supreme hypocrite, he is on record (video exists) of supporting Bill C against the accusations of some of the women that he had on stage even saying that the women were plain “not supermodels” and were only out for personal gain.

    Trump channeled his inner Putin by threatening to jail his opponent (Putin merely has them killed) and displays a poor understanding of American Presidential power. No President can instruct his Justice Dept. to do anything, there is separation of powers and Presidents can’t speak to the Justice Dept. about possible charges or investigations, they can’t speak to the IRS about auditing citizen’s tax returns. Trump seems to want to reinvent Nixon’s enemies list, I could see it now- Clinton a Democrat, Kasich a Republican, Mark Cuban- private citizen and an array of journalists- the man is a Doofus.

    I think he does have the discipline, and when he goes off message, people love it because he is being a dufus like them …. or at least it appears to them he is just like them!!

    He isn’t really, but he has such a clear understanding of human psychology that people believe him and more importantly, believe in him.

    … and he is helped by the fact that he is an outsider and people want outsiders.

    Trump’s opponents have underestimated Trump from the beginning and have not understood they created the environment which ensures his existence.

    The republicans who jumped ship this weekend were fed a feint.

    They are exposed and in the open now … I suspect their political careers are dead!!

    Trump literally has them by the gizzards and whatever he wants from them he will get!!

    Sometimes I wonder if it is he who leaked his tax returns to the NYT and the last straw, the tape.

    Well Well you dont need someone who is educated in turbulent times , fools rush in where brave men fear to tread as it were. They need someone who who will back up what he or she says, not this confusing bullshit that has been going on for the last 8 yrs. People love to know the boundaries right now there is no clear boundaries hopefully whoever wins should make sure they dont say it if they dont mean it and not willing to back it up.     I presume you mean Broderick. If yes check her out back when she was a 30- something up and coming executive who operated her own nursing home business. She was certainly fit and fine then.

    Of course every word she says about Bill’s behaviour is likely true but as he is not on the current Presidential ballot not sure what good it really does!

    Incidentally I saw a report re a social media post (St. Louis Gateway Arch, Missouri) by Ivanka Trump. I could only shake my head and laugh.

    It’s either the most ‘in your face, up-yours’ phallic symbol she could have found or a telling symbol of a campaign which arched proudly towards the sky and having reached an apex is now heading back to its crashing end!

    @MB, CNN loading seven Dems before one Trumpian would be grave bias for sure. But methinks you trump that with your boldly biased remark that you could never vote Dem. For the record I would (if I could) have voted for John McCain (had he not so stupidly selected Sarah Palin). I would in same vein have voted for John Kasich over Clinton and maybe even Sanders.

    All the CNN panels I have seen I have been impressed with the Trump surrogates. Agree with them or not most of them are sharp and find a way to defend their man with often quite reasonable points.

    So the point is that whether 7-2 or not there are ALWAYS multiple and good Trump supporters available. It’s not the size but the skill in using …the words.

    You are not correct about the powers of the US presidency.
    Until Watergate, the US President DID have the legal authority to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate crimes like Hillary’s. Richard Nixon caused that power to be taken away. Now only Congress and the Attorney General appoint the special prosecutors, but everybody knows many presidents ( Kennedy, Nixon, Bush I and Bush II, Obama) appoint their closest allies as AG and tell them what to do. President Trump could also ask his allies in the Republican-controlled Congress to prosecute her and they would almost certainly follow his guidance. The President has both legal authority and informal power.

    We were just informed that Trump offered Pence control of both domestic and foreign policy as an inducement to join the ticket.

    Tells us how interested he is in running government at the granular level, as we suspected. He is to be the pretty boy. Like he does now in his so ‘successful’ company

    Clinton on the other hand, is fixing to install a neo-con administration. Hers will be Bush/Cheney again…………….but on steroids.

    Bush was educated at Yale (BA-History), has a Harvard MBA, and served as a fighter pilot in the Texas Air National Guard.

    On paper, these are glittering credentials. But look into the details and there is a different story. The marks at Yale and Harvard were poor. The flight records for the F-102 and jet trainers show his performance as a pilot was dreadful.

    Compared to Hillary, Bush is a genius (he was a hugely successful managing partner of the Texas Rangers and a popular governor of Texas), but that’s not saying much.

    The counterpoint to CNN is FOX. The FOX stations have TWICE as much viewership – therefore 2X times reach and persuasive power – than CNN does. Do you complain that their “obfuscations and brainwashing of dummies who cant think” is in full force too?

    Breibart News is ALL about Trump. In their case there is absolutely no objective news really.

    The WSJ’s editorial pages support Trump (or supported). So does the NY Post and Washington Times.

    The problem for you is when the fact-based NEWS division of these media houses do their job and can only but show Trump’s abjectly divisive campaign, poor personality and report that he is unfit to be President you get pissed.

    The NY Times came out and for the first time used the word ‘liar’ to describe a candidate: Trump. Because despite the fact that politicians since Washington have been caught in lies, this is the first time that a politician will speak before a mic and within 24 hours disassemble and modulate his remarks again in public and boldly disavow what he said earlier.

    And when called on it he will boldly disavow again and tell you that he never said that.

    Geezus, bro the man is on tape supporting the Iraq war and he said AGAIN last night that he never supported the war. He does this daily. One site gave him 10-12 outright falsehoods last night (three to Clinton).

    So let’s agree Clinton lied (and lies); but Trump simply lives in two realities and moves between them seamlessly. When we were kids make believe was really cool but as adults…and in the WH…you got to be mad!

    Home schooled children get a real education and are years ahead of their peer groups as most studies show.

    Schooling is that commodity characterized by marketing, like the Bible, to make us believe that we are getting superior insights.

    This is a lie. For example it is impossible for a so-called Ivy League institution to do much more than State colleges as far as curriculum is concerned. This is supported by peer reviewed studies as well.

    Not even the fiction of rubbing shoulder with the brightness of the bright or being connected to a high-end network on graduation are no longer true.

    The truth is that there has been a massive commodification of ‘credentialism’. A hollowing out of primary and secondary ‘schooling’. A corporatization of the commons.

    The UWI is devolving into a factory producing widgets. And it is about time we all faced that reality.

    Most of us are aware of the powers of the President but Trump made it seem like a done deal. Of course if he is President he could nudge a Republican controlled Congress to appoint an Independent Counsel but Congress doesn’t take that job lightly. Incidentally the last Speaker of the House (Gingrich) who pushed for impeachment proceedings against Clinton didn’t last too long in that position and Ken Starr just resigned as Chancellor of Baylor University for failing to respond to complaints of rape by female students of the University.

    I wouldn’t even bring up Ken Livingstone, Denny Hastert or Henry Hyde.

    So senor other ‘ Clever people know’ that along with radio voices like Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Laura Ingram, Lou Dobbs and Hugh Hewitt to name a few, there is absolutely adequate and equal coverage between liberal and right wing media voices. In fact the right wing voices are louder and more pervasive. This is factual, MB.

    I do try my utmost to open my eyes and ears and call it as I see/hear it..trending to the left admittedly but not so far left that that I can’t see what right!!!

    –2) I love practicality. Don’t always practice it but do strive towards it. It is absolute and utter madness to elect a megalomaniac narcissist to a position as powerful as President of the USA.

    You are fixated on the fact that Clinton is a criminal. I am fixated with placing such a personality in that position of power. I will not fight with you on this any further.

    Suffice to say that the actions of the Republican party over the next several days sans a damaging leak (and specifically if there is one) to scupper Clinton’s bid will determine the outcome of the USA in the years ahead.

    Trump’s personality is all about him and he will incite his followers to perpetuate folly if he gets pissed that he is losing badly.

    Clinton CAN be contained in the WH. Trump cannot. If you don’t understand the ramifications of the two positions then that’s ok, just call me stupid and close this out!

    If Trump wins then it’s HIS party and where he will take the country is not where it will want to go, that’s for sure!
