In her response to the budget ofย  June 2015 leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley gave impetus to the Cahill Energy debate when she shocked the country with the revelation that four ministers (Darcy Boyce, Denis Kellman, Chris Sinckler and Denis Lowe) had signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Cahill Energy dated 15 March 2014.

The government defended (not very well) the agreement with the Claire Cowan Cahill Energy company, however, subsequent events have proved the Fruendel Stuart led government withheld vital information from Barbadians.

Barbadians were NOT told that on the 13 September 2013 Prime Minister Fruendel Stuart signed a Heads of Terms Agreement related to Cahill Energy that committed the government to specific deliverables which have cost and legal implication for Barbados. For example, clause 5 of the agreement reads as follows:

Why did the Prime Minister remain silent on the matter of his involvement during the June 2015 budget debate? Why did he not defend Minister Denis Lowe – who had lead responsibility – and the other ministers who were heavily criticized for their involvement with Cahill Energy?

What adds to the Cahill intrigue is the letter (parts 1,2) signed by Prime Minister Fruendel Stuart dated 3 March 2014 addressed to Clare Cowan advising that Cabinet approval was obtained and the agreement with Cahill had been submitted to the Solicitor Generalโ€™s Office as part of the required due diligence process.

In 2013 Prime Minister Stuart in his head to head with Owen Arthur won the debate on the matter of who was perceived to have greater integrity by the public. The Cahill Energy transaction has given justification to those who now question the honesty of our prime minister. The public announcement last week by Minister Denis Loweย  – forced by the No Confidence Motion – is not the final chapter in the book titled ‘Governance‘.

    I can’t bowl. However, any chance rests with them kicking out Fumble, and whoever else they wish to tag, and having an about face on several issues, including finance, while blaming FS et al for the decisions made. They can use Cahill as the lead example of how FS orchestrated the government moves. The battle will be their new leader, who should run in St.john, cause despite PUDYR’s predictions, they will not lose that seat. And rekindle past memories of a PM from St.John riding.

    I have never rated Freundel Stuart……….alway thought that he was piss poor politician.

    From all reports, he is also a poor rated lawyer. A friend of mine who is a dem was a recipient of his poor skills as a lawyer………sat on the person’s case for years and when the DLP won in 2008 he transferred the person’s case to another lawyer. To this day the person has not received their day in court.

    So truth be told, I am not disappointed in him…………I have never rated the man above poor.

    You know when I realised that Freundel Stuart, politics or no politics is not man of any morals or integrity……….it is what he did to OSA……………..

    During the time when the gang of 11 were plotting to overthrow his sorry tail, he went to OSA with his tail between his legs begging OSA not to join with them and bring him down.

    OSA at the time was still at war with Mia and stupidly wrote Fruendel a note and at the end asked him (in jest, according to OSA)……..”while you are at it, can you take Mia off my hands.”
    That un-principle man , Freundel cut and pasted the note and used it as an election ad against OSA, the same man whose mercy he was at, begging for his help.

    That act of Freundel showed to me he had no integrity, politics or no politics. What annoyed me with OSA is that he did not out the liar before the ad came out as the dems were on BU bragging that they had this letter and even the same Freundel was on the campaign trail bragging about this bombshell he had.

    Had OSA revealed the circumstances under which the note was written, maybe who knows, Freundel may not have been re-elected, he would have been exposed as man without principle and not to be trusted.

    So what Freundel did in the Cahill debacle is no surprise…………..he knew he had signed the first document and sat there in the House and let his four ministers take the brunt of Mia’s attacks and said nothing.

    The four hapless ministers know how the PM operates and because they want the power as much as he does, they took it without a word.

    Imbeciles!

    Big Man, I wrote off the DEMS since their first budget in 2008. I have nothing good to say about DEM, so I duz jus try tuh keep me mout shut wuh part DEM is concern.

    The problem I have is this; almost everybody and their brother agrees that DEM is de worst we have ever had, and yet, with the people having to endure much pain and suffering; your preferred leader to date, has not been able to force at least a draw.

    When will your preferred leader decide that the time has come for a game to begin? She claims that the country can not endure another eighteen months of the same, but unless I missed it, have never stated how we can avoid doing so.

    March for justice …. seriously big man?
    Why not march for new elections?
    If you have the support, why settle for half-measures?

    Or is it just theatrics, why fight and risk injury when you can simply mark time and win by default?

    It’s the nasty secrets they like to keep for each other in their little clique-like club is what’s finishing them all off, they even keep secrets that could help them because they do not want the electorate to know how nasty they all are….but it was an exercise in futility keeping secrets over the decades….it’s all out and whatever else they are hiding, most of us can guess.

    Let us give the benefit of the doubt to Freundel, DownLowe, Sinkliar and the rest, and assume they did some due diligence on MECC, but it was limited to information fed to them by MECC. No independent verification.

    When MECC first established contact back in 2011 or 2012 or whenever, she would have provided them with a CV, which would have included her past business ventures Goldcare Indutiae Inc., and Venture Exchange network.

    She would have referred them to an article in the May 13, 2002 edition of Canadian Business, which started with:

    โ€˜Think of Clare Cowan as a matchmaker. No, she isn’t fixing up singles. Rather, Cowan and her company, the Venture Exchange Network, specialize in bringing together cash-starved private companies and venture capital firms hungry for the next big thing.โ€

    Barbados was cash starved, and MECC was hungry for her first big thing; so, thanks to an intro by 7th Heaven Properties, to her this was a marriage made in heaven.

    However one of the Canadian venture firms which is supposed to be associated with the operation says it knows nothing about it.

    In reply, John Kozak, the exchangeโ€™s COO said it dealt with Fredrick Bezon of Sofinov, whose title he didnโ€™t know. At press time Sofinov had closed and couldnโ€™t be reached for comment.

    Cowan is the majority owner of Goldcare Indutiae Inc. of Toronto, which owns the exchange and is funded from private North American and European investors.

    The Venture Exchange was originally named VenturePie and a press release was sent to the media in March, 2001 describing its operations and inviting entrepreneurs to search for compatible investors. Later a Web site with the name VenturePie.com was set up. Cowan, however, said that release was only sent out to test media reaction to the idea.

    Originally VenturePie? Pie in the Sky like 7th Heaven.

    Surely had there been any successes by MECC, Goldcare, Mastermind or Venture Network they would have been widely publicized via press releases.

    DD has not been able to find any reports of deals actually done.

    So the truth is that the Ministers were hoodwinked by MECC into believing MECC could deliver the investors to fund the WTE plant.

    And when she could not find investors, she hooked up with Jacob Securities Inc. in 2015 to find the money; but Jacob was suspended by the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and shut down in December 2015.

    It could be said that both Cahill/Cowan and Jacob, which gained profile for sourcing funds for marijuana/cannabis businesses; has โ€œgone up in smokeโ€.

    Now the Ministers are able say the deal is dead because of the failure of plasma gasification plants elsewhere; without coming clean that that they were hoodwinked.

    At the signing of the agreement on March 15, 2014, Sinkliar said: โ€œThis investment by Cahill Energy represents a โ€˜game changerโ€™ for the island and truly belies any doubt that Barbados is still a preferred destination for solid and impactful foreign direct investment.โ€

    In hindsight, about the only accurate statement made by any of the Ministers about this sordid adventure is that it is a โ€œgame changerโ€, which will make PODRYR correct when he say โ€œNot one seatโ€.

    DD…now they have learned, if they did not know before, that independent background checks are the best way to verify or expose a tissue of lies being fed by foreign investors or “matchmakers” for small islands.

    The Del Mastros nearly slipped in also, when my daughter recognized their names and said, but those are two crooks, the government in Barbados were clueless, still did not do any background checks….it was also social media exposed thst one, since traditional media dont do any investigative reporting or background checks either….they just report what is told to them and call themselves journalists.

    The local newspapers should have exposed both Cahill and Del Mastros….Trini newspapers do, but it appears the Trini newspaper in Barbados dont.

    By the way, I dont see any of the Panama Leaks addresses and names in traditional or online newspapaers…what are they waiting for….to take credit for what social media already did…..

Ministers and civil servants on the payroll of businessmen.

    My guess would be this is the mastermind of another. Who was able to put MECC together with the GOB. As such MECC was playing frontman for this other, and this is who provided the money. MECC never had that kind of money? She was malleable, but also a bit of a loose cannon.
    Where did the MECC info come from? Leaked or hacked? and why.
    My other guess is one BB is involved. The orchestrator, or simply smelled money?

    There are two points to consider Blogmaster

    The government I recall does some not so insignificant advertising in these newspapers and they would be spoiling their faces

    The second thing is that if they were to deal without bias to this inept government it would be an expectation when the Troika gets in Power and that they WILL NEVER DO

    And thirdly.

    BALLS.

    As much balls as we have under the cover of our nom de plumes we can’t do any of this activity in light of day.

    They have their families to feed and while it is not admirable, it makes good sense.

    For you to be a maverick using your own name, you have to be independently wealthy, have a source of income that they cant touch OR be blind stupid and you dun know which category de ole man fall in.

    But I dun figure, since I gine dead anyways, either by (a) these means or (b) while dem is killing me in their own way or (c) by the third way they ponder on, either which pathway to the spiritual progress we all will take, I, poor fodder for caterpillars, beleive that I cud as well dead in such manner that I choose, bellowing about their ineptitude, that of both hapless bands of inept brethren.

    You are spot on the money with your synopsis . What I missed is the spin doctor for all the fictitious press releases was none other than Liz Spencer . Who herself was duped by Cowan.
    Spencer loaned Cowan ยฃ300,000 on a promise of a 10 fold return on her money . Spencer was a shareholder in Cahill international which was to be used as an SPV for cash from Cahill energy Barbados.
    Cowan tanked Cahill international without Spencer’s knowledge through John Robilliard of Blenheim group Guernsey ( Robilliard is no longer with Blenheim). Spencer who sued Cowan was held at bay in her legal persuit for her ยฃ300k by Taylor Wessing Cowan’s lawyers in London. this was done with a series of holding letters in the hopes Cowan would secure the deal money before Spencer got her into court.
    Taylor Wessing have to be squirming right now as they haven’t been paid by Cowan either and the damage to their reputation must be enormously embarrassing.
    Her counsel Dominick Fitzpatrick who is still listed on the TW website has to be worried too ! Who in Taylor Wessing did the due diligence on this crazy Canadian scammer.

I have a very keen interest in politics – especially politics in my country- and I can say without fear of contradiction that the present government has taken Barbados to the lowest levels – economically and morally.

    Thank, you all for your support and criticism. I pledge allegiance to my country Barbados and will defend her from all internal and external threats. Barbados social stability is threatened by a class of persons who think the wealth of the country belongs in the hands of a few.

    We must be willing to fight against any initiatives that disenfranchises the masses of Barbados irrespective of color, class or creed. Our two political parties have betrayed the trust of voters over the last 50 years. Neither political party cares enough to police themselves against poor governance practices. Too many projects are shrouded in secrecy which seem to al suffer cost overruns. Barber Green has been a currency commonly used in handshaking.

    Political careers cannot be seen as an escape out of poverty thru gifts at the expense of the country. SMHD…

    All the money stolen in this Cahill fiasco was from technip , Liz Spencer, TW, Otto Simon etc if you look back at some of the docs on BU you will get the full list.
    Fortunately or unfortunately most of if not all the duped suppliers are off island so far as I can tell.

    What about possible (likely) payments from the apparent “losers” you listed at 6:27 to some highly positioned Bajans?

    What about posible payoffs to Claire Cowan to keep her quiet about some of the matters involved in this scam?

    There must have been costs to Government resulting from the scam that would have come out of the consolidated fund. The Auditor General should be able to find them. There must have been other money trails which any other Government would have found by now, especially after the BU leaks. Impeach DEM when the inevitable leaks come out!

    I am asking everyone I can locate trying to find out what the dummy Fruendel Stuart can help Venezuela, a population of over 31 million people do, when he refuses to help the 275,000 population he got in Barbados and he is being paid a salary for that….I cannot find not one soul to answer my question…..can he afford to buy toilet papaer for 31.4 million people.
