As I said in the first blog comments, there is no identifiable purpose to Bobby’s march and he alienated too many groups. The message should be simple: march for new elections and let all the competing parties convince us they have solutions. I doubt there is any more money available to buy votes so the outcome should be fair.

  3. Then don’t think of it as a people march. Call it what it is – a PEP/PDC rally. Anything less than that is dishonesty.

    Bush Tea

Sorry – ‘leave Bobby alone’ – and this from YOU? Christ.

  4. the barbadian got it right the first time ..and so it would be the second time around …love of country would be the trump card dealt.a card which will shift and refocus the importance of putting country first above all else…..which will keep barbadians away in droves…and putting a final closure to all other calls for mass protest

  5. The Bushman said:
“It is for OTHER VOICES to now collectively join to create a genuine BAJAN movement against the BLP/DLP shiiteโ€ฆ.”

And that is the whole point of any future marches on the island.

    Ross…..Westmonster??…….i like, i like..lol

Ross…….It should be thought of as a people’s march, leave out all the shitty acronyms, they sound just like the pimphood titles out of buckingham palace, and look at all the sociopaths they produce……These are marches by the people for the people……leave the idiots completely out of it, just pretend they are faceless.

Piece……you are way too much for one gal….lol

  7. The antagonists are vilifying the protagonist of this protest by falsely stating, in innuendo and otherwise, that he and his intentions are being ratified by the BLP. However, Mr. Clarke has cleared the air on that matter, and now these naysayers/DLP yard-fowls are attempting to associate patriotism as the main factor preventing a larger participation in the protest.

I honestly believe Barbadians are scared to join the โ€œmarchโ€ out of fear of being victimized and more so in a climate where jobs are in jeopardy and victimization is at an all time high. The DLP politicians have also contributed to this fear by the behavior they exhibit to those who dare to criticise themโ€ฆโ€ฆ using their constituency branch meetings as a forum to lambast critics. We heard how Sinckler at his St. Michael North West constituency branch meeting abused David Ellis, Dennis Johnson, Peter Wickham, Corey Layne, Nefatari Caddle and other VOB moderators.

Such treatment is also extended to callers to Brass Tacks. We have heard stories of victimization from individuals such Anthony Wiggins, Denis Loweโ€™s former branch secretary, the โ€œHistorianโ€ and a few others who voiced their dissatisfaction with the performance of the DEMS. Even big business men have been includedโ€ฆ.. with Bizzy and COW crying foul.

Skepticism will also prevent people to gather in their numbers lest they are recognized by DLP agents as having participated in the โ€œmarchโ€. As such, the fear of losing oneโ€™s job will prevail, emanating especially from those who are employed by statutory corporations and employers who support the DLP.

If we remember 1994, the variables associated with those โ€œmarchesโ€ were significantly different as opposed to the ones that are currently being organized. In 1994, the protests were endorsed by the islandโ€™s largest trade union movement the BWU and involved to some extent the NUPW. This in itself brought a perceived level of security of tenure to employees, i.e. protection of job and from victimization. Any fallout from that event affecting employees would have seen swift action being taken by these unions, and the consequences of such action would have โ€œreverberatedโ€ throughout Barbados.

  8. David, ignorance is bliss my big toe.The fact of the matter is the march was a Colossal failure because it lacked a focused aim. There is alawys a silent discontent within the masses awaiting an opportunity to release its dissatisfaction with the ruling party, but Clarke unfortunately, failed miserably, in his efforts to aroused this segment of the conscience of masses.

  9. David

One can’t help but to think that the PM is laughting his butt off, knowing fully well that this march has validated what he has being articulating all along. That we’re experiencing one of the worse economic melt down in recent times, and despite this reality, his Ministers performed exceptionally well given what their have had to deal with.

David, it is disingenuous to blame the masses for a march which was poorly organized from the get go. We obviously have to thank Bobby Clarke for his efforts in bring awareness to the suffering of the Barbadian people. But the Barbadian people already know that their are suffering and therefore are looking for immediate solutions to address their immediate concerns. The people probably anticipated HOT AIR from Bobby Clarke and decided to looked and listened rather than rather than to actively participated in the march.

  10. ask permission? do dont ask! then as long as you all stay peaceful
you will see what you are really up against.!
see if the army or police beat or arrest people for a peaceful protest.
film it. it is the only way you will ever know.!!!!

  11. It may be time to show some creativity. Everybody talking about marching, who was there and who was not. Who should lead and who should follow. Why people went and why most did not. And the usual suspects, lacking the ability to interpret events vex like hell with some of us.

But marching is only one means to determined ends. In some ways marching is old fashion and like war one has to face one’s nemesis up close. There could be other non-violent actions that could better interfere with business as usual. There could be refusals to pay taxes. Some may decide to hack important communications systems. Other may carry this government to international tribunals for human rights violations. Yet others may refuse to recognize this government and have nothing to do with it. Etc!
There is no need for one-dimensional thinking

  12. Art said:
“Even big business men have been includedโ€ฆ.. with Bizzy and COW crying foul.”

So what is bizzy and cow crying foul about since they have both benefited mightily over the last 20 years from all the extortion, bribery, favors given practiced by both political parties BLP/DLP on the island, they have managed to amass land wealth, businesses etc through all that corruption, the only thing could be bothering them is that the free contracts they got at the expense of numerous local contractors island wide over the years have run their course and dried up AND these two clowns despite their wealth believe the should still be getting all the contracts and the numerous small, black contracts should still get nothing.

I also suspect that since Peter Harris is buying up much of Barbados, even though both Bizzy and Cow are now candidates for Depends diapers they are as usual displaying their greed and selfishness believing they should be the only wealthy people on the island………pure nastiness from cow and bizzy as usual, there is no foul there, only greed and bad mind.

  13. @Pacha

But most of us are 1D, it must be B or D.

  14. To reiterate, should read:

AND these two clowns despite their wealth believe the should still be getting all the contracts and the numerous small, black contractors should still get nothing and should continue to work for cow and bizzy, do these two asses ever look at themselves in a mirror, from where i am sitting they are both ugly in mind, spirit and body.

  15. where did all the brow beating chest thumping .blp yardfowls go….i guess reality is beginning to set in to the demented nuggets ,,,,with the reality that bajans would not be lead to be mislead but knows where and how to settle the score every five years… which seems to be a problem for the malcontents and frothy mout blp yardfowls would prefer guts and gore by any means necessary for the satisfaction of a few beast of prey and political hound dogs

  20. Nice old school calypso David.

  21. Well Well

You have a point. Let’s see how it unravels.

Someone suggested that the march be video taped.. Good idea.

    Dompey

The first march was NOT a “colossal failure”. Those are your political leanings talking. It was the beginning of a movement. The question now is which way it all turns.

Concern has been expressed about victimization. Given the track record of meanness of spirit, I think the threat is real. The more reason, then, for the ‘people’s march’ to be as broad based as possible.

    Islandgal

You were at the first march – well I think you were. Please give your ‘take’ on the second.

  22. Pacha mentions human rights violations – I assume he means discrimination against gays. But yes, there are other options but if a ‘mere’ march is problematic how on earth do the masses orchestrate the “multidimensional” approach? Is HE proposing to hack into the PM’s personal emails? Or the PEP? Is Bush Tea proposing not to pay his taxes or the big boys in the PEP/PDC coalition? Should Commissiong bury his head in the sand after saying ‘I don’t recognize you. Kick my ass if you like’? Is David going to plot it all and assign roles?

  23. We see Mrs. Snide is at it again. She knows well we have no brief for that. If words are to be put in our mouths they should relate to reparations, empowerment. They should relate to UN cited crypto-racism in Barbados. We can’t understand how when these post slavery problems are still with us and all manner of distractions can take priority over them. Let’s fix these older problems first.

  24. @ David
The artificial B or D divide is a fairly recent phenomenon. 60 or 70 years ago it might have been the Conservatives and the …….. But we need not defeat ourselves by something that seems hardwired into the culture today. Systems rise and fall all the time. You think the Bees and the Dees aint reading this blog and are not petrified with the frontal assaults they are getting from nearly all quarters. Truth be known, they have no answers. And they know that a lot of people now know this too. So the centre is under immense pressure. The centre cannot hold! Somethings must give!

  25. I don’t imagine that Fumble or Mia give a monkeys what a small bunch of know-alls, malcontents and crypto-racists have to say anonymously in cyber-world about anything very much. The proof of the pudding is this – how many of that bunch were at the first march? How many stepped out into the brave new world behind an old man with a stick?

Sorry is that “snide”? OK. Live with it..

BAMC staff got a ‘notice’ in the form of a slip of paper this month saying there is no money to pay them. No letterhead, no signature. No sugar industry. Yet a $300m sugar factory is in the pipeline to grind cane that does not exist and without the cane no rotation crops to feed Bim. I was recently told the ‘consultants’ fees’ on the factory are $20m so even if the factory isn’t built, the crows will get their carrion. March for new elections Bobby, let it all come out in the campaigns. Too many people suffering this idiotic mismanagement quietly.

    But then again…

-The DLP jokers are such idiots that they have provided incentives for EVERYONE to join this march…
    -The dismissed 6000
-The CLICO losers who still don’t get it….
-Trotman – whose big trip they tek and give to Depeiza
    -The British American Insurance losers
    -The UWI students
-Sir Cave Hilary and the UWI workers whose free ride days are numbered
-The Credit Union savers whose assets will be shaved
-Property owners who must now pay a SHIITE tax…
-Renters who will have the shiite tax passed on..
-Carson Cadogan – who like he tired defending the indefensible…
….shiite man – even Bizzy and COW may march – since they are not getting their bribe money’s worth….

Wuh um look like only Negroman, ac, Dompey and the NUPW people in the DLP good books….

LOL…Wuh you think Piece….? Those three truckloads of soldiers that Islandgal saw may well have been going down to join the march hear…?

  30. Wait Bobby marching again isn’t there a Crop Over event in the city at the same time. Lets see how this one goes. The bets are on numbers ranging from from 50 to 150 comprising anarchists, malcontents, communists and a few curious tourists.

Haven’t got over Mascoll comment that government got it right with the foreign reserves hence there is no threat of devaluation. That’s the first positive Mascoll said about his country that educated him free of cost from primary to tertiary. If he takes a break from writing crap weekly in the anti-government rag and coax his cronies Don Marshall, Jeramy Stephens and the useless UWI cabal to shut to f*** up he would do his country a great service. We don’t need egotistical economists with repetitive drivel we already know their dire predictions. Time for them to do some real work and help the real people tackling the crisis put the country back on a sound footing.

  31. The unemployed would hardly join bobby and Commissiong these are people who looking for work and don’t have time to waste shuffling up and down town behind two pig headed so called lawyers.

  32. Passing thru…I just passed you out and flushed the toilet. Stay down in the cesspool and don’t float back up you piece of shoite!

  33. Wunna get wunna second land tax bill yet? It is double my land tax. Wunna gine pay um? I can’t afford to pay um I am pleading hard times.

  34. dont pay taxes ..go live in haiti and see wuh hell is like.

  35. AC ……you can afford to pay this shite tax unless you still renting after all these years. Don’t worry we will pass Haiti on our way down as she rises out of the ashes.

  36. A friend just got the Municipal Tax invoice on his property valued at $3M and he needs to pay $9000. How will he find $4500 by July 31? Where are the taxpayers educated lawyers in Barbados who should be fighting this unjust imposition? Many will go to the mad house those unable to pay will become criminals and many will loose their properties.

Yuh talking ’bout a commercially active very rich friend?
Or about a farmer with a small plantation dat in bush waiting for a change of use of the land?
Or about a pensioner with nothing coming in except the pension?
I wonder why dat site value looks somehow contrived?

Anybody else got some real figures dat doze of us who en get de notice yet can gauge what the damage is likely to be?

  38. are-we-there-yet? Avatar
    are-we-there-yet?

    OMGChris;

Or he just rounded off the figures to make the calculation easy to understand?
I suspect the median site value of a typical house in Barbados is about $48,000. (i.e 4,000 sq ft @ 12.00 $ per sq ft). A 0.3% tax on that would be $144.00 or $72.00 $ per instalment.
For a Bushtea with a site improved by a hut and storage for his lawnmowers, lets say the site value could be about $480,000 and that would attract a tax of $720.
For a COW Williams type with, say, improved sites totalling 4,500 acres @ lets say a total site value of say $9,000,000.00, the tax would be only$27,000.00. Eminently payable by a businessman of that ilk.

  39. The municipal tax on agricultural land is approximately 33% of the land tax.

  40. ddon,t worry about how ac live..the fact is that i live.and if i want to live in a palace.i must be prepared to foot the cost..or be contented to live like a pig..or live like bush tea in the bush..where there is no cost..

  41. Government entities have to pay the tax should assume the MoF will waive the tax, the government is broke.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Friday June 27, 2014, CMC โ€“ With experience of the Westminster parliamentary system for 375 years in their consciousness, Barbadian politicians are saying they want a change from this adversarial mode of governance.

Speaker of Parliament, Michael Carrington, on Thursday said the one reservation he had regarding Barbadosโ€™s Parliament is that the adapted the British Westminster system, which, โ€œappeared to pit Government and Opposition inexorably against each other in aggressive, contentious and oftimes seemingly unnecessary confrontationโ€.

Carrington, an elected member of government, was speaking at a joint meeting of the two chambers of parliament โ€“ House of Assembly and Senate โ€“ to mark the 375th anniversary of that institution in Barbados.

Bushtea; Sorry, that should be $720 per instalment. I didn’t check the figures.

I was referring to a much less well endowed bushtea type than the original. Of course your tax would be much higher than that befitting a man with your direct connections to the BBE.

  46. A future certain coalitional regime of Barbados and of which the PDC shall be part will ABOLISH ALL TAXATION in this country, and replace it with the right and appropriate strategies, policies and programs for the government making far, far greater use than it is currently doing of money, resources, assets, partners coming within its embrace in this country.

  49. @ David, you said
‘Are we reading right? Is this what we have been posting on BU for years?”

That was exactly our response. Seems to us as though these political placeholders are ready BU all the time and have benefited from our general trajectory. ‘Our logic is undeniable’, said the robot to the computer in the movie by the same name starring Will Smith. We happen to know more than a little about plagiarism and we recognized the wholesale lifting of the language of some BU people coming from the mouthings of the donkeys that are currently leading the lions. But this is not merely in the political sphere. In economy, the same is true. Our so-called private sector leaders have long lost their way and that needs radical transformation too, as the Indians and others are gearing up to challenge White dominance in Barbados. Our goodly colleague, Bushie will not share this view, but in religion or matters spiritual, the same is true. ”WE ARE INDEED, THE ONES THIS COUNTRY HAS BEEN WAITING FOR!.” Rise up and make a stand! Any stand.
