Sandy Lane Jet service
Sandy Lane Jet service

When the hoteliers on the island like Mr Adrian Loveridge rejoice in writing every week the trifle and myopic vision for tourism, I am forced to ask if he ventures outside and into the areas that are really doing business in tourism and that are the ones generating serious inflows of foreign exchange for this island .

Take for example this fantastic innovation being created by Sandy Lane hotel, for the Winter Season of 2014 – 2015, we have a first for Barbados a Private Boeing Jet Service flying from. Heathrow to GAIA bring some of the most wealthy to our shores and to our wonderful Sandy Lane Hotel.

We also are now aware that despite his vocal claims that hotels do not make money and the industry will die according to the former BHTA President Mr Gordon Seale, despite his gloom and doom he has amassed enough earnings from tourism to now further invest in the same industry he has continually cried shame on the same industry that has provided him with lavish homes in Portugal and Barbados, the same industry that has provided him the luxury of owning the top of the line BMW’s and sports cars, the same industry that provided him the opportunity to buy another hotel in Amaryllis but yet still guys like Seale and Loveridge continue to cry down the same industry that makes them millions.

We will soon have a new Four Seasons Hotel and development and a Beaches Hotel and a new hotel on the site of Sam Lords and I am sure that the same ones who can find no good returns in tourism will be the same ones grabbing to get onboard this DLP tourism forward development tourism train ‎.

  2. @ac

Your credibility has reached an all time low on BU. For you information because you obviously do not live in Barbados. The 9 restaurants participating in the re Discover program are top establishments in Barbados.

Isn’t that a good thing – that hotelier Gordon Seale was able to be a success in the tourism business in Barbados.

mr Allan Gordon Seale……….. not filed a tax return in over 12 years. pays no national insurances.

Given his apparent success, if he has not filed a tax return in over 12 years and pays no NIS contributions, he must owe Government (ie those who do pay their income tax and NIS contributions) in the tens of millions of dollars (including interest and penalties)

If that is true – Government should lien his properties and/or sell them to recover monies due to Government (the taxpayers).

Is corruption so pervasive that authorities turn a blind eye to tax cheats, or are those responsible to collect tax revenue totally incompetent?

  4. David some people on this blog are ?????

The $99 meal is a great idea.

The participating restaurants will get repeat business at higher prices if they deliver on quality and service.

  5. @Hants

True and BU has connected Adrian with a tourism operator based in Europe who has offered to market to their target. It is positive but these yardfowls prefer to attack the messenger at any cost.

    Well Well

Agree that ac and his/her partner Douglas should be reading what Boos has to say.

So should those in authority in Barbados

Boos suggests that a collective non-governmental body work along with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to turn around Barbados’ economic fortunes.

Instead, Government wants to turn to UAE, Qatar and China to turn around Barbados’ economic fortunes.

The comments of this highly regarded analyst (see https://www.linkedin.com/pub/peter-n-boos-fca/13/516/4b3 ) must be alarming to prospective investors.

“Under our current governance model our elected leaders essentially proceed as they please with often little reference to manifesto promises and virtually zero performance measurements or accountability,” Boos said.

“Disrespect for the law, the Government’s failure to settle its liabilities as they fall due and to continue to purchase goods and services knowing that they don’t have the money to pay promptly is a serious failure of governance,”

DD does not know what the Westminster system has to do with the current state of Barbados finances, but Boos certainly seems to have it right that there is “a deep and urgent crisis” that must be immediately addressed by the entire nation.

If you have not read it, you should read the article “Wake up, Barbados! at:
    http://www.barbadosadvocate.com/newsitem.asp?
more=local&NewsID=36642 , where he says that it was clear the economy “was in deep trouble and not recovering”, in spite of the beliefs being expressed by some parties to the contrary, he opined that the island was on a decline due to decisions made many years ago and exacerbated by the current complacent behaviour of all sectors.

Would you, or any sane investor, invest in Barbados after reading those comments.

Who do you believe; the Chairman Emeritus of Ernst & Young Caribbean , or those in authority, Stuart, Sinkler, Sealy and Kellman et al who continually express views to the contrary.

  7. Due Diligence,

Kellman told his followers last week end that investors are tripping over themselves to invest in Barbados, yeh!

  8. Due Diligence Avatar

    Prodigal

    Can you please translate

Kellman, who has been representing St Lucy for 20 years, therefore called on Barbadians to invest in some aspect of productivity and not be “left behind and have no footstep in the development of Barbados”.

“If you do that, outsiders will come and get all the benefits and we will have the money in the bank getting nothing. Money does not grow in a bank. Instead of you forking up the land and growing some vegetables, you taking your money every month and putting in the bank to get nothing. If you buy two chickens, you think the chicken will stand as chickens? They will become fowls! You don’t like growth?” he asked.

    And what is he smoking.

“When we did the layoffs we were cognisant of what was going to happen with these projects,” he said, mentioning Almond, Sam Lord’s Castle, Sandals, Four Seasons, as well as community projects featuring Stroude Bay, Archer’s Bay and North Point in St Lucy.

“The people we lay off are the ones who can easily get back jobs. And the projects that are coming, the people can easily be employed in,” he explained, noting that if Government had kept the Public Service overloaded, it would have had to import workers for the projects as the former administration had done.

  9. “Decisions made many years ago”, I wish Boos was more forthright

  10. david yuh not see i am the only person that responded to that joke of a menu… nobody took that 99$ three course meal deal seriously,,,,,,BTW mention the names of the restaurants…, i still maintain that a three course meal in barbados in a glitzy restaurant with wine fuh 99$ is well it depends,,,on where yuh buying it…..,now as to my credibility…i am entitled to my opinion .and that is the truth ,uh can’t get no more credible than that,,, boo…ba,,ha,,,ha,,,,

  11. one thing i am hoping govt do..establish an program where individuals can donate monies as special funding into restoration projects,,,,,well maybe my idea might be dumb ,,but there are too many landmarks of historical interest that needs to be restored but stay in disrepair because of lack of funding……patriotism at work is when ALL ;LEND a helping hand in building to a better future for other generations

  12. ac,
Why you want to know the names of the restaurants for? You said you do not go out to fancy places unless some “organisation” is paying?

Was David kidding when he asked if you live here? I hope you do cause you must have a say on everything!

  13. Due Diligence,

LOL…………no one can translate what Kellman says…….. certainly not into anything that makes sense. He is the clown prince of this parliament. If you ever watch him when debates are carried on TV, you would cry shame that an elected MP could be so ignorant! For true!

  14. Due Diligence Avatar

    ac

Your govt’s failure to settle its liabilities as they fall due and to continue borrow (from NIS et al) to purchase goods and services knowing that they don’t have the money to pay promptly, will burden Barbadians with debt that will have to be repaid by future generations.

  15. Due diligence and yuh partner in crime PRODIGAL,,would you be willing to invest a couple dollars in the restoration of historical sights if govt set up a special program where monies would be used for the sole purpose,,,,,,,,

    …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

prodigal don’t pay david any mind ,,he uses that ammunition to silence ac,,but as principal

he got special rights so just ignore…in the meanwhile ac never says anything when he pontificate about america problems,,but being the good student i am ..i show my respect…

  16. Here is the link to the website. http://www.re-discover.com/

Again, it is a good program.

  17. so what i visited the website and i am impressed …so maybe i will eat my words on this one….but in the meanwhile i will take credit for proposing that BU show the names of these restaurants,,,,,,,,agree it is a good program….shows that public sector at times can used their brains to self promote and not always have to rely on govt, decision….

    WOW! praise indeed. Thank You.

  20. The names were always posted, just had to check the website. Barbadians would be familiar with Adrian’s re Discover program, it is not new.

  21. @ac

Also the fact you condemned the program before gathering relevant information shows your modus operandi.

When will we learn that we must ALWAYS be “AVAILABLE AND OPEN FOR BUSINESS.”
Hope the BTA read BU and fix the problems within the next 48 hours.

    @Adrian Loveridge,

$99 per couple dinner is a great idea that will generate future business for the participants.

    Hants,
thank you. I really hope so. Last time we launched the programme (after 911) the then open Carambola welcomed 1,392 re-DISCOVER diners over a three month period. It kept people employed and businesses alive.

  27. Due………politicians in Barbados do not have an original thought in their bodies, they just follow the money right into a pit…..lol…. they will follow England. US, Middle East, China, Japan, anyone they believe is super wealthy, without any critical thinking or analytical thoughts.

  28. o.k David u dismiss ac.from the classroom but not before i have the last word.the program is a good one an example by which those in the private sector out to follow…instead of. the constant belly aching and bullying of govt to do more .as a matter of fact i will for my part and make mention to my friends and on my face book page

  29. @ac

Wow! So you really have friends?

  30. de hood u use to be one of my BU best friends but some how u have become influenced by one who should go nameless and now u have handed me over to the wolves,,,,,,,,
but on another note,,,,for all that it is worth,,,,i like when those who are constantly brow beaters of govt ..take action in implementing initiatives that are worthwhile in helping the economy…it is alright for citizens to complain ..but after a while it becomes tiresome and noisy and what negativity these noisemakers expect to occur actually works against them and in govt favors..case and point the BLP continual efforts to undermine govt policy with constant over-bashing and exerting movement to bring down the govt……so far has refused to materialize ,as most believe that the populace is not stupid and as the PM has said over and over again people are no longer having to depend on a particular source for information. so what ever the outcome….. people have already long in advanced made up their minds in favour for ,,or disapproval ,,,,,,

  31. @ac

Don’t let de ol hood get under your skin, ac. Ol’ hoodie just poking a l’il fun at you. Just trying to see if you can be sidetracked from the political agenda for a little while. 🙂

  35. Well Well

The politicians in Barbados probably follow America because their have heard, or read, or have been told by others that America is the model of success. And I am quite sure their have put those hypotheses to the test and arrived at their current state of affairs. There is a say in America that, “People love winner.”

  36. It appears to be a placeholder which website designers should replace with relevant content. Surely there is someone at the BMA who is responsible for managing the content of the website?

  38. I agree AC… De Hood, appears to have some proper home training, but I am afraid to say he is being influenced by a corrupted element, who should also remained nameless. But, a sharp line of distinction can be drawn between Bush Tea and De Hood because Bush Tea has the propensity to Falls for everything and anything; he is essentially, the yes man around the BU blog.

@ dompey … YUH GOT THAT RIGHT,,,,,,,

  41. @GP

I understand that it’s when they start asnswering themselves back that the real problems begin. Have you noticed whether he has started answering himself? 🙂

  42. LOL
Cuh dear David…you going to let these two idiots embarrass themselves even more than they normally do…?
As you said, that is a well known FILL IN SCRIPT that can be found in many Microsoft templates for magazines, websites, brochures etc..

  44. David the BMA website is terrible. You do not have to spend a lot of money to create a good business website.

    example

  45. @Bush Tea

To coin enuff, Jesus take the wheel 🙂

    @Hants

The BMA content is not complicated because it is informational only therefore why the issue of managing the content? It is an embarrassment and these are the ones riding government about concessions and the need to do greater facilitation.

I here just enjoying the show as it is unveiled. Lol

  48. @ BushTea, we should always be.

    AVAILABLE AND OPEN FOR BUSINESS

That is why I the websites should always be functioning.

Time to give the students at the BCC some evening and weekend work creating websites.

  49. @GP
