  1. @ Dompey,

I’ve never heard that term before “peckerwood”. I hope it’s not a rude word. Check out these great jazz compilations: black culture represented in its highest form.

  2. I hope I am clear…all I am saying is do not let the words be a distraction. Actions are what needs to be scruninized. Example Pollard being fined more than stark in IPL….it is the subtle racism that is most destructive and subversive. the mindset needs to be changed and that can only be dealt with by achievements and destroying our own self impose barriers.

  3. Annie

I got news for you girl. You may not have experienced racism coming from the white folks in Barbados because they’re separatist. But here in America their refer to people of East Indian descent or Indians as sand Niggers. Just Google the term!

  4. Annie

I have two plutonic girl friends here in America, and the both of them are of East Indians from the Caribbean. Uma from Guyana and Marcia from Trinidad and Tobago, and the both of them tells me that the Indians from the India looks down on them because they were born in the Caribbean and speaks little of the language. And by the way, both women are married to white Americans. That’s another issue ya’ll Indians need to deal with because the Pakistani here accuse ya’ll Indians of licking the white man bottom.

  5. Annie

Have you Google the term sand- nigger as of yet? Well, that term refers to Arabs as well as East Indians equally here in America.

  6. Annie

I’m surprised no one here has called you a racist yet. Perhaps it’s because you’re a woman and they’re far too gentlemanly. Yeah right. Welcome.

  7. @ Ross
What call Annie what racist what?!
    – you are just a mischievous strife maker….
ANYONE who can conclude, as Annie has, that:
    ++++++++++++++++
the mindset needs to be changed and that can only be dealt with by achievements and destroying our own self impose barriers.
    ++++++++++++++++
….represents a rare level of insight on BU, and goes against the emotional wishy washy nonsense about what some joker says – or even thinks aloud about us….

Wunna feel that Bushie gives a rats rectum that GP has classified him as a “generator of bovine excrement”? ….or that he insists on assaulting the bushman with CAPITALS?
    ……NOT AT ALL!!!
…as Annie so well puts it, not with the Bushman’s ACHIEVEMENTS, self-image and self-worth……. Wuh shiite then, wunna could talk…but don’t touch Bush T yuh…. 🙂

  8. Ross

Annie, is an Indian and Indians are some the most racist people on the face of God’s earth. ( at least against black people) Now, to set the record straight, two of my best friends here in America are Indians from the Caribbean, Uma and Marcia. Boy, the East Indian worship the white man here in America. And all the white man do is talk about how stink they smell because the Hindu Indians here do not use deorderrent because of religious purposes.

  9. And Ross, I can assure that Annie’s husband is a black man of high brown complexion.

  10. Here in Barbados Muslims and Hindus have lived in harmony as far as I can remember we go to their weddings eat and do business with them. Unfortunately we like to use one brush to paint each ethnic and religious sect. I have friends from all creeds and I count myself fortunate as they enrich my life. We share the same moral values and that is what unites us. These advocates of racial discord have an agenda. Decide and conquer. I personally refuse to buy into it. I am uplifted Everytime I see my young adult children with their rainbow of friends. Not once do I hear them talk about colour or race. I look to them to take the bigotry and bias out of everyday life. Someone posted a picture of what the children of the next 10 generations will look like and they are of indeterminable origin.

  11. Annie:

Keep dreaming you are doing a fine job of it!!

I just read a lot of BS posted on here and I have to say a lot of you are more racist than Clarkson.

Black ppl walk around and call black ppl nigga, nigger, and it’s ok but a white man use the word and the world must stop because of this and he should be destroyed. Really now? I would love to give all of you RACIST (yes! RACIST) jokers a one way ticket to the “mother land”.

So what if Clarkson is racist. How does that impact any of you? Stop watching Top Gear, don’t go to the shows here next weekend. who really cares? how does it make your life any better?

I personally could give a rats ass about what Clarkson or Sterling say because they (racist or not) living their life. A lot of you should do well to do the same and stop the racist shite talk because thousand of ppl come to our shores, that our business, do we know if they are racist? or it’s only when they make it known that it’s a problem?

Commissiong could kiss my black ass because he is just like the jokers in the US, Al Ass and Jessie Joker.

I’m a proud black bajan and I invite Clarkson to our shores. He may just be keeping some of your black brothers and sisters employed at a time when they are mass layoffs and that is something i care about BUT then again, how much of you jokers care about your black brother or sister?

  13. David

You’re probably correct in your analysis of the opinions expressed here but your opinion does not change the fact that there are white people out their who genuinely dislike black people because we pose a threat to their way like. Yes, we demand a slice of the cake and this is where a lot of the hatred seems to be centered. Now, as I have expressed to Ross today: I do not understand how a black person who lives in a country where the population is 95% black and who political structure is control by a black majority could possibly cry racism. The bottom line is there are white people in this country, who just do not care for black people and in some instance anyone who isn’t white and this kind of mentality makes it bad for those whites who aren’t of this mentality. And to put the icing on the cake: I have good friends here in America who are white, Hispanic, Indian, Chinese and black etc because I believe that each and eveyone of these race of people brings something positive to the table of humanity. But even that in itself doesn’t changed the fact that there are accountless number of black men who are sitting behind prison walls for crimes they did not commit. And thanks to the Innocent- Project a lot of these men are being released, some who have spent decades in jail because of corrupted cops and judicial system which used to aid them. No disrespect intended but David, you’re in any position to call a black man a racist, if you haven’t live in America or European for a considerable amount of time. You just spend a little time on this side of the world and I can assure you that your perspective of race is going to change fundamentally.

  14. David

Annie, is an idealist, God bless her little soul but her opinion on race does not reflect reality. And David, you haven’t a clue regarding race relation and the dynamics of racism, so it’s best you keep your mouth tightly sealed on the topic. David, what about the class stratification which envelops the tiny island of Barbados? Why haven’t you spoken on that as of yet? Because it’s just as worse as racism! We have a group of people walking around island of Barbados believing that their shite do not stink because they have good education and good job.

  15. @ Annie,
I have found your contribution to this post very enlightening. You suggest that racial discord would dissipate when races intermingle and rear children of indeterminable origin. Should this occur how would we cope with the remnant minority groups of whites, black and brown people who may not be interested in raising children of an indeterminable origin? Would they be treated equally?

I do not believe that our problems will cease In the event of us all becoming members of this fabled indeterminable group. Would those of a darker complexion encounter more problems than those of a fairer complexion? How would we deal with religion?

Annie I don’t believe that those Afro-Bajans who contribute to this blog are necessarily racists. Try to put yourself in their shoes. You mentioned that you are of East Indian descent. I am not aware of any country in the world where those of Indian and African extraction coexist in harmony: Uganda, Kenya, Guyana, Trinidad, UK, India (I’m sure that you are aware that Africans have existed in India for centuries), etc. I almost forgot South Africa. During the last days of Apartheid the white South African regime allowed both “Asians and Coloureds” to vote. Both groups took part in the knowledge that Blacks were denied the vote.

Annie when you look at the above examples are you really surprise why the Afro-Bajan both fears and distrusts Asians?

  16. And finally, David, there is a fundamental difference between being a Racist and a Realist. Perhaps, you ought to pensively contemplate is sometime brother. I am in no way close to being a racist David. Prior to my life in Barbados I held a favorable opinion about race but that all change after residing in America. Since I have being in this country, I have been profile by the cop on numerous occasions because I drove nice car; I have been viewer with suspicion because of my skin colour; I had many white people run up to me in a store as ask if I can help you, while white folk walk around freely without any harassment; I have seen black people in high positions treated with little respect; white friends of mine have told me personally, that when the cops stop them for driving a car without insurance and registration, their are told by the cops to take the car home. On the other hand, if a black person is caught driving without insurance and registration, the car is towed and he or she is ticketed. I have lived through this thing brother, being a young black male in America during the early 80’s. I know what I am talking about..I have lived through it! So you and whoever can piss off, if you think I am a racist because I have the psychological scars to show.

    @ Exclaimer | May 11, 2014 at 4:25 AM |

Very interesting points raised for Annie to address.
It would be most interesting to find out why black people like to go to other people’s countries and easily adopt the dominant religion and adapt to (and in most cases immerse into) the dominant cultural scenes whereas such cultural transformation is not seen among ethnic groups immigrating to Bim.

We must admit Annie does have a worthwhile point regarding miscegenation as a way of breaking down racial barriers; even if not cultural. This would be in keeping with Nature’s requirements for biological diversity and intermixing to sustain the species.

We would also like to hear her views regarding the BBC’s decision to dismiss a DJ who played the song “The Sun Has Got Its Hat On” which makes reference to ‘niggers’ tanning in the sun in Timbuktu.

Does she feel Jeremy should have been treated similarly?

  18. Miller

Mind remember the BBC is a very politically correct institution with its own self-evident biases.

    Dompey

There are many people – black and white and doubtless all the rest – who are in prison but shouldn’t be there. And yes, in my experience as a generality and as world-wide as might reasonably be expected blacks have no time for Asians, Asians have no time for blacks, whites often have no time for anyone, even themselves.

OK. Do we accept that, or as some do on BU justify it, or do we try to break down barriers in the name of the universality of man, the simple premise that we cook before the same fire, dance to the same flute and in the end rot in the same mother earth.

I guess I understand your perspective. But when push comes to shove the racist element on here is very small though there mouths are as huge as Asia. I suppose now I’m hearing other perspectives which roughly coincide with my own I feel far more like saying to them ‘Shove off. Don’t bring your hate here. We want none of it. And if it’s a real problem to you, go discuss it with a psychologist.’

  19. So now after all that psychoanalysis, why is anyone upset that whites are now made to take a dose of their own medicine by the way arabs, indians, etc are called niggers with curly hair, so there..

  20. And……Dompey is right, hypocrites call REALISM… racism……because they are unable to deal with the realities so that everyone can move forward, too bad, so sad, get used to it because i am a REALIST.

  22. Well Well

OK then “an eye for an eye”. Do you want a world full of blind people?

  23. In an effort to prove he’s not racist, Jeremy Clarkson has announced there will be more black people on Top Gear in future starting with a new “mystery driver”

“The Nig” makes his debut this summer.

  24. @45govt

Some good has come after all, some obscure person gets an opportunity. There is something to be said for agitation AND it continues.

  25. The Stig and the Nig?

  26. Piece you ole golliwog LOLL behave yuhself do!

  27. David

Did you win or lose on this one? How would you assess in general terms everything written here and does “agitation” include death threats?

If I say: “This debate has heightened awareness that we must be reasonably careful about the language we use so as not to give offence. It has demonstrated that for some the racial scars run very deep and that even if we don’t feel them to the same extent or at all it is our duty as human beings to pay sensitive regard to them. We all agree that racism, no matter who the perpetrators of it are, is wrong because inhuman and we utterly reject it.”

would that be a fair assessment of the common ground in this debate?

    45govt

    Hi

  28. Ross…….so what’s wrong with that, you prefer a world full of mentally f**cked up people, like we currently have……the worst that can happen is that some idiot bajan white ala St. George the Dragon would have hurt feelings because i refuse to spare them, so tell me, where is the harm I get my kicks from pissing him off…..you are getting soft in your old age……i bet when you were young and filled with piss and vinegar you are coldblooded and heartless…lol

  29. Ross:

I can agree with your second paragraph!!

  30. Lemuel

Phew….then we’re on the same page after all.

    Well Well

I have never been either of those though not “weak and effeminate” in BT’s sense

  33. Jeremy Clarkson did made a racist statement, but and sterling is just of few of those white people that insult blacks, the real issue is, white people like Jeremy and sterling, have seen how blacks have improved their lives, they can get an education, and own land and homes, so I think the only thing some of these racist people can hold onto is to be racist and ignorant, and yes, there are lots of racist people, but we only heard from those who spoke their minds in public. Their hatred wont stop many black people from progressing, although some blacks wont progress or do nothing with their lives, the majority will continue to succeed and move forward with integrity and hard work

  34. I have been away and out of this debate for the last few days, but I will say this to the hypocrites out there. If you support Clarkson by turning up and enjoying yourself at the Top Gear show, then you can never play the race card against any white person in Barbados ever again. Period!

  35. @ no prostitute . | May 18, 2014 at 7:07 AM

“Do we realise that Barados is presently beamed to the whole world as the country in which the world’s most popular F1 driver LOUIS HAMILTON is driving even in the middle of the F1 season when he should be preparing for his next race in Monaco this week? can any amount of money pay for that advertisement and asses like Caswell Franklyn and the blogger writing such nonsense?”

I am truly amazed that some people are willing to ignore the fact that Jeremy Clarkson has made racist remarks against Negroes and Mexicans, and are willing to support Top Gear while giving the stupid excuse as quoted above. It shows individuals like “no prostitute” is either white, in that he/she is not offended by racist remarks against Negroes, or have no principles.

In 2014 when someone could call our Black brothers and sisters “nigger” and we could go out in our hundreds to support any event that is hosted by the said individual, shows that we have not outgrown or overcome our mental enslavement.

So, call me “nigger”, host a show and invite an international super star….. I will attend, my excuse being “don’t mind the racist comment; Barbados is being beamed to the whole world.” Yes, Barbados is being beamed to the whole world, but what impressions are being derived from our actions? With this type of attitude, I can only conclude that “no prostitute” is indeed “a prostitute”.

  36. What an ignorant tosser you are Artaxerxes. In your desperation to take offence, you completely ignore your ‘brothers’ propensity to call one another niggas, and I would suggest to you that you should get a life beyond taking offence and your own shortcomings, real or imagined.
