Good Gracious Mr. Jones, Helmets and Vests If I Protest? Barbadians were taken on an excursion that was quite unlike Mia Mottley’s in Swan Street or Harry Husbands at several private schools over the past fortnight.

MP Jones was judge, jury, and executioner. MP Jones classified, castigated, and determined who were interacting with criminal elements and the actions that were divisive, but he failed to speak out against social injustice. MP Jones preferred to inform Barbadians under a veiled threat that the resources of the military would be called upon as a matter of ‘necessity’ since law and order, defined by Jones’ Law would have to be restored. Jones demonstrated a desperation that characterises the despotic regimes that have done more harm to their people far worse than any external forces – listen to Minister Jones.

It was a vain attempt to cut down MP Mottley given her noticeable and appreciated performances thus far since returning to the helm of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP). Since when did things deteriorate or would likely descend into chaos in a modern-day Barbados as to contemplate the dreaded call for the military and paramilitary forces in the restoration of law and order?

“certainly not David, has ever suggested anything other than civil disobedience as the ultimate weapon for cultural transformation……”

The way for change in Barbados is THROUGH THE BALLOT BOX. All other methods are unacceptable.

The wise people of Barbados just rejected the Barbados Labour Party for a THIRD time through the BALLOT BOX. HOW LOUDER MUST THEY SPEAK, BEFORE THE CORRUPT BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY get it?

Any other method is clearly ILLEGAL and will be dealt with.

  2. @kevin

It is not two businesses at all. It is more two vendors which the people have the option to lease their services because the business of government is owned by the people and when people disengage they are only cheating from themselves in their ignorance.

Whatever happen to the Barbados Labour Party saying that the voice of the people is the voice of God?

Is this only true when they are elected to power?

Your government, under Sandiford, was removed largely through a social movement which also involved some business elements NO?

Are your sure? That has not been our experience. This time the wider social movement must target the whole system.

  7. And to think that after the BLP started the fire they now sit across the room with self-righteous indignation talking crap. MIA should be he last one to get caught up in this destruction of our country after all he knows and have felt hatred and condemnation from within her own house. totally surprise at the political path she has chosen to renew confidence in the people

Do you really think you are helping your party by building a culture of violence?

  12. To the blind yard fowls; what what what!!?!? The B’s are fomenting insurrection???

If it was a low level minister who was suffering from a case of serious brain damage… maybe I could have let it pass with a comic jingle for crop over.

But, but, WHAT!?!?! He sometimes is the acting PM for God’s sake!

Listen – my business is about ready to die… and many other business owners are crying out… not because they want to overthrow the status quo- but because they want to keep their life blood flowing.

Watch out! If nothing is done – and quick- more businesses will be shutting down this year and more workers will be on the breadline!

Please remember, a businessman WANTS to keep doing business! We do not spend our lives building up something to just throw it away.

I read in the Nation newspaper two weeks ago that Ronald Jones went to the Unique High School for his Secondary education. From my observation, the Secondary school experience is not as important as the Primary as its at Primary that language skills are taught and inculcated.Ronald Jones is an insult to Primary education in Barbados and a poor example of the high value we place on education here in Barbados.I take issue with his bellicose syntax, his pronunciation of certain words, his lack of interactive skills. One would think he would learn something from the PM’s style and delivery of the language we speak. In this expression of the concept referred to as Democracy,it’s painful to witness such destruction by philistines and vassals of a bygone era.Ronald Jones has no place in a Barbados that boasts of free education to tertiary level. What an unimpressive Minister of the Crown!

You are not playing fair. You are failing to recognise that BLP lost the elections, period. They are once again Her Majesty’s loyal Opposition, nothing more.

The real test to come is not within the DLP, it is going to be in the BLP when the current MP resigns from Parliament and sets about to ensure his sucessor is installed in St. Peter. If Mia can control the contitutuency of St. Peter and who the BLP leader wants to run there, then how can she survive as the leader of party she cannot control?

OSA has said more than a few dozen times that he is determined to see that Mia never, ever becomes a Prime Minister in Barbados.

  20. Akira Hotasato Avatar
    Akira Hotasato

Will OSA give the information on HMP Dodds prison to, to be used as a dagger to politically kill or severely injure? Will he give it Kerry, Dale, George or Estwick?

  21. Because a political party wins an election it does not mean dissenting voices should be non existent. In fact a robust democracy should embrace all views.

The Opposition has a job to do and they should be heard but is the right thing for Barbados four months after a General Election, for the Leader of the Opposition calling for another General Elections?

The simple answer is NO. Everyone knows Mia did in OSA in the last elections and now that she has put two defeats under his belt, she wants a second bite at the cherry for the BLP by walking up and down Barbados trying to fan the flames of unrest and maybe even creating it?

Mia is not motivated to have a another General Elections now because of any state of play in Barbados, its the state of affairs (a fears) in the BLP, the party that does not want her and her knowing full well that she will not survive at Leader of Opposition.

  24. My Name Is Not Sylvan Avatar
    My Name Is Not Sylvan

Once again we see a furious attempt by the DLP to deflect attention away from their mismanagement by innuendo, and trying to create a controversy where there is none.

Who can forget Chris Sinker telling the opposition to “shut up” now we hear about threats of violence. The leader of the opposition is simply doing her job as the leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition. She is pointing out that the sleeping giant has gone back to sleep and that he is indifferent to the people’s suffering.

If the honourable minister doesn’t like criticism he should simply do a better job, or get out of politics. Criticism of a visibly poor job of governance is not incitement to riot it is simply stating the facts that everyone can see.

  25. @ David
We consider that neither the BLP nor the DLP can doing much more to help Barbados. They cannot even transform themselves internally and must therefore be considered as useless. It certainly cannot be helpful for the country to keep switching parties as a national and emotional response, does it? For us MAM is not an appropriate response. We must go beyond the BLP. That we are even having this conversation 4 or 5 months after a general election suggests that an underlying causative or systemic malady. A chronic sickness within the body politic.

  26. The Opposition/MAM can say what she wants but her narrative must be coherent and logical or it will be rejected and she loses credibility in the process.

  27. To Akira. Stop trying to distract from the issue at hand. What does Owen Arthur have to do with what was said or done in the house yesterday? For the record, Owen Arthur has never said that Mia Mottley will never be the Prime Minister of this country, you are a damn liar.

You might not actually witness or experience for yourself but you sound like the type that would succumb readily to those much bandied about conspiracy theories about how Masonic lodges and the “Illuminati” control the economy, civil and military institutions and indeed politicians and governments around the world. All of that might indeed be pregnant with some sort of meaningful relevance and small doses of truth.

So listen to us young fella, there are also theories regarding the “Manifest Destiny” of certain individuals who happened to pass through this part of our galaxy from time to time.
Let us use Nelson Mandella as a perfect example and easy point of reference.

Now let us now make a global quantum leap and come down to a much more micro and local level of comparison and see EWB in such a light.

Do you really feel that the MAM went through the fire in the last 4 years just for so as part of your perceived partisan political ritual or do you -as you should- see it as a holistic retreat for preparation for political power?

What you have observed in the last 3-4 years is not a dagger in her back but the offer of a two-edged sword of steel to be forged in the hottest of fires to produce the toughest set of golden gloves to accept the sceptre of true intellectual pharaonic descent to guide this country and its youth to a new Mosaic promised land of Bim.

We trust you are magnanimous enough to appreciate and accept the messenger’s announcement of good tidings instead of turning your dagger of intellectual dullness on him.

Mr. Amused, the messenger’s secret legally spiritual advisor, is there to offer you consultation on the above matter and real intent of its message. Please feel free to access that effervescent fountain of political knowledge flowing from the politically savvy “Amused” on a pro bono basis.

It’s a blessing that your moniker reflects a youthful exuberant mind that can be conditioned by a ray of brilliance from the land of the Rising Sun.

  41. There are thousands upon thousands of people in Barbados that have seen through these two old intellectually politically bankrupt and discredited BLP and DLP – that they are essentially the same idiotic foolishness.

The time for the BLP and DLP to go is right now.

They have no answers to this country’s fundamental problems, and to see that it is they that have created many of these problems makes it worse – the reasons why they must go.

They must go sooner rather than later – both of them!!

    MIDWEEK NATION(a little while ago)

    Not Mia and me!

Arthur says BLP leadership issue about the people

    By Ricky Jordan

Mia Mottley’s leadership challenge is not between her and Owen Arthur, or her Opposition colleagues- It has to do with what she symbolizes in the minds of Barbadians.
That is the view of former Prime Minister Owen Arthur, who said yesterday his former Deputy Prime Minister and current Opposition was not accepted by most Barbadians as a future leader.
“I cannot say there is not a challenge of leadership in the BLP, but the challenge is not about a struggle between Ms. Mottley and myself.
“The challenge is, as represented in the Peter Wickham poll, that Ms.Mottley… faces a problem of being accepted by the society at large and faces a problem of a cross-section of the BLP,” Arthur told the media at his UWI, cave Hill office.
He said there was one facet of the issue which neither he nor Mottley could do anything about, and that was that after being leader of the BLP and country for 14 years, a large measure of support for him remained in sections of the society and the party.
“And she has to live with that … I can’t do anything about that, but there’s a part of it that she has to deal with what she symbolizes in the minds of the people of Barbados and how she comes to get the people of Barbados and how she comes to get the people of Barbados to accept her as their leader,” he started.
Arthur said he was still finding it “ most exasperating” that over and over again Barbadians from all walks of life were telling him that they wanted him back.
He also said it was not something he was promoting or encouraging , but it existed and therefore represented a challenge to the party.

    Oath of allegiance
This challenge, Arthur added, could not be confronted by issuing public ultimatums for party members to swear oaths of allegiance.
“The BLP has a challenge and we have a situation where there’s not a contest for leadership within the party, but there is a problem in the wider Barbados society, where there is unacceptance and unacceptability of the present leader of the party,” he said.
“I would like to see Ms. Mottley succeed in politics … I also stepped down voluntarily as leader of the party,” Arthur said, reiterating that last Monday’s confirmation vote could not settle a leadership issue which was rooted in the wider society.
“The challenge facing Ms.Mottley and the party is not within the parliamentary group. The challenge is to have a leader who enjoys wide acceptance and acceptability in the sider society and wide acceptance in the parliamentary party.
“That cannot be resolved by a vote among the parliamentary group,” he said.
Arthur advised that his former prote ̀ge ̀e now needed to “recognize that there are things that you may like to do that could affect the standing of your party”; prepare herself for the fact that everybody was not going to like her; and immerse herself and “work harder than anybody else”.
“Ms.Mottley does not have to be me,” he added, “but she has to make herself likeable, she has to be respected because people want to believe that their leaders are full of integrity … and she has to consider the use of power; not be feared negatively, but be understood as a person who can use power effectively.”
    Legacy
He further noted that, having had the opportunity to lead Barbados for three terms, he was not about to do anything to destroy any legacy of leadership which he had established.
“I have no interest whatsoever in being involved in dividing the BLP. I would have no interest whatsoever in wanting to re-emerge as leader in a divided party.
“My only interest is wanting to serve if I still think I have something to contribute to the people of Barbados,” Arthur added.

The political commentary on this post is truly amazing: the Dems are attempting to defend the indefensible, while the BLP commenters seem to rejoicing because they have scored a moral victory. They are both pathetic. How can the BLP rejoice at having their lives threatened by a lunatic?

Jones has proven beyond any doubt that he is unfit to hold ministerial office. Fortunately for him, his boss is a weak snivelling coward who is afraid to do the right thing. After Jones’ performance in the House yesterday, the PM should have offered him two options: resigned or be fired. But he is afraid to fire that fool because it might usher in the demise of his administration because Jones could co-operate with the Opposition and bring down the Government.

The PM is so scared that he cannot realise that the last thing Mia wants now is the Government. She will fire a few warning shots across the bow but she does not want to clean up Freundel’s and Sinckler’s mess.

Freundel do the honourable thing and fire this clown. He is making Barbados look bad locally, regionally and internationally. The sad part about it all is that Jones thought that he was making sense.
