Leader of the Opposition

Lights !!! Camera!!! Action!!! Last weekend’s meeting of the Barbados Labour Party’s branch of the St Michael North East, on the spacious lawns of Tyrol Cot, reminded Barbadians of a scene in the upcoming new series of Dallas . This is one of the many scenes were JR Ewing and Sue Ellen pretend to be the loving couple in public. JR Ewing the abusive hubby and Sue Ellen, the faithful side kick waiting for the call to ask how high to jump.

How many times have Barbadians seen the kiss and make up public charade. The political embrace all in the name of the party’s image is just getting extremely worn. It was not too long ago that Mia scripted the now famous letter [19th September 2011] to her party’s hierarchy withdrawing from the race of chairman as the incoming chairman in waiting had a copy of the script from his greatest political ally. Mia wrote

“ …You may well ask whether internal victory at all costs for certain interests is worth jeopardizing the image and appeal of our great Party in the eyes of the wider electorate at this volatile and uncertain juncture of our Nation’s history and within sight of a General Election. The most powerful way I can register my strongest opposition to this undemocratic and unconstitutional cutting of members’ rights and tinkering with our Constitution is to withdraw from the contest for the post of Chairman. To remain would be to legitimize behavior that is foreign to this Party…”

Let’s not forget Owen’s castigation of Mia from on top the hill . In the birth month of Mia in 2009, Owen spewed political venom in the direction of his former boss by publicly flogging her and questioning her suitability to lead. Owen said

The BLP has a challenge and we have a situation where there’s not a contest for leadership within the party, but there is a problem in the wider Barbados society, where there is unacceptance and unacceptability of the present leader of the party. “. . . The challenge facing Ms Mottley and the party is not within the parliamentary group. The challenge is to have a leader who enjoys wide acceptance and acceptability in the wider society, and wide acceptance in the parliamentary party.”

Of course this has nothing to do with the betrayal of the male club and the attempt by Arthur to get the rid the likes of Cynthia Forde from the hall of Parliament. Owen has been clear in his mission. Any evidence or relationship borne to Mia was to be atomized. This relentless journey has been put on pause once again. The crystal ball of Owen has been cleaned and he is asking for a second coming.

His vision though blurred is wrapped around the belief that the voters of Barbados or so gluttons for punishment and abuse that they would surrender their freedoms to an indifferent and selfish group of election hopefuls. The civil servants are well aware of how they were treated under the Arthur regime. The policemen of Barbados will not forget that they are not special. The nurses of Barbados will never forget the disdain they were served up. The teachers will not forget the unanswered cries of their ranks. The soldiers of the BDF will not forget the years of dismissal on the issue of their pensions. However,

Arthur wants Barbados to forget that his entry into politics was authored by a dramatic display of an appeal for a higher pay day. He got it …he tasted it …he became addicted and now he wants more. Owen’s desire to lead must not be interpreted as commitment. There is only one thing and one thing….Owen is back for a pay pack.

As I said earlier this week, even before you get the Sunday Nation, you can predict that Albert Brandford and Pat Hoyos will be critical of the DLP.
    My prediction has come true.
Yet Kaymar Jordan will come on Brass Tacks and with a straight face tell Bajans that the Nation is fair and balanced.
The Nation newspaper’s strategy is to use their columnists to savage the DLP while pretending to be fair.
If Kaymar cared about balance she would provide a counter view to Albert Brandford, Pat Hoyos, Peter Symmonds, Sanka Price, Ezra Alleyne and Clyde Mascoll.
The Nation newspaper like Fox News is “Fair and balnced but biased as hell”.

    @ David

I can report that the DLP joint St. James branch meeting at Queens College has had a turn out which is not only very impressive but might be cause for concern for the BLP. The crowd is massive and is growing by the minute and police have been dispatched to direct the thongs of traffic at the junction where Queens College is located.

The hall at the School is full with approximately 1,000 people and there is standing room only outside for and with another 500 people. The car park has been completely full since 5.30 this afternnon and cars are parked pass Husbands and down towards Holders Hill.

I am aware that infighting has been part of the political landscape for as long as I can remember but I am not talking about people vying to hold offices in the party: I am talking about treachery where people sabotage their parties chances because they don’t want a PARTICULAR person to lead. I am talking about communicating the party’s secrets to the other side because they did not like the leader of their party. I am saying that a lot of that was partly responsible for the DLP’s long sojourn in the political wilderness, and if they do not sheath the daggers that they have aimed at Freundel’s back; they will be headed there again.

The Nation’s exposé dulled Sinckler’s blade, but even now Wickham is attempting to sharpen it. Mind you, Sinckler was not the only one with a rapier at Freundel’s back but fear of losing their salaries is keeping them in check.

  4. @ Caswell

I have a question for you. Do you believe CADRES and Peter Wickham that Chris Sinckler has all this broad national appeal in Barbados as a leader?

  5. what a stellar performance by the PM and the DLP representatives who stood together as a united voice dispelling rumors and perceptions by the BLP yardfowls that none of the ministers and PM got along last night meeting show another side as it was very heartening to see how warmly the PM and ministers were accepted by the thousands of supporters that came out, the PM was full of humour while at the same time defending the stellar record of the DLP a party who for the past four years has had to contend with a global economic recession and all its challenges ,however one of the many highlights was his description of the the RT HON and his commitment to being :POWER HUNGRY; not to leave any stone unturned he reminded the audience that the DLP promised them a govt of integrity and so far that is what the DLP has delivered, a govt that they can be proud of and not one steeped in lies and corruption like the past administration of 14years, lest we forget the PM warned the audience that “a leopard does not change his spots.

  6. @ac

Not so fast, the PM convenient did not mention the E11 saga. He can’t runaway from it.

  7. @ David

He does not have to run away from it, he need only make it a non-issue by doing nothing in the way of revenge.

  8. ll i used to have a lot of respect for you till you attached your name to the nation now any or everything you say i dismiss as gossip wether true or lie in other words when one lie down with doggs they bound to get up, with fleas. sorry no hard feelings it is what it is.

  9. the above comment was for caswell.

  10. The puerile nature of your comments continues to bemuse. What better way to get a message out then to coopt the most effective medium to do so?

  11. @Mr. Paper-Mate

That is one strategy which maybe compromised if the BLP exposes it by a strident counter. We shall see.

  12. the last time the PM talk about the Eager 11 he said he was going to take action if need be apparantly the BLP yardfowls and you david did not get the memo.that has been 1 year ago and the BLP still don’t get it. there is nothing more to say or will be said by the PM or the minister on that subject so the BLP yardflows could keep stirring the pot until the stick break .

  13. AC (10:23)

I know if you lie down with dogs, you’ll be bitten by fleas provided the dogs have fleas. However, the problem for Freundel is that he is lying down with hungry cannibals and he can’t go to sleep. As soon as he closes his eyes the very ons who promised to guard his back will be the one to take the first bite.

  14. caswell you see what i mean as along as you establish yourself with the nation it is going to be hard to believe you. anyhow what is your point. did not OSA and the eager five decapatiate MIA and she like a headless chicken kiss and make up, OSA did not even wait for her to close her eyes he just took out the sword and cut her head off right before her very eyes and since then has attached it to his body, but if i were you i would not wait to see the head of FS decapitated by any one he is too smart for that ask peter wickham he has been trying his very best

  15. Mr. Paper-Mate (10:10)

I do not believe Wickham’s nonsense for one millisecond. Wickham has an agenda and is using all the resources available to him to promote people who he suspects are of like mind. You see he is always attacking Freundel and that is simply because the PM is 100% man and Wickham can’t stand that. Wickham has also heard similar allegations about persons in the BLP that are of like mind and do you see who he is promoting. All this is just a conspiracy to further pervert this society ably led by Wickham.

  16. AC

You are doing a poor job with your metaphors: a headless chicken wouldn’t have anything to kiss with. LOL

actually my comment is intended to be a ‘Word to the wiseand caswell would take it in stride he too knows understands how he will be perceived by the public any how can’t fault him for trying to make living.no hard feelings his contributions have been valuable but i am a little disappointed in him.

  19. In was taught to be careful of the company “you” keep. most of the time what is attrbuted to them be it good or bad reflects on you. i like caswell that is why i show concern may be i could be a bit more diplomatic in my comment to him but he is wise enough hopefully to discern.

  20. The comments being made by these new DLP bloggers are really alarming!

They are desperate! Freundel comes over as a clown, hope he is taking his meds, he does look sick! Wait, he has now said, he wont be taking news from third parties, he is now a gossiper! He looks so petty now on my TV!

  21. @ac
“the DLP promised them a govt of integrity and so far that is what the DLP has delivered”

seriously? honestly? Do you think the 30,000 plus CLICO holders believe that? or the members of the BSTU? or Al Barack? of the taxpayers who will pay back the IADB (and other) loans? or the people in ST. James?

Integrity is akin to a sword. It cannot be wielded at will sometimes and then sheathed when convenient. It must be sharpened and on display at all times, lest it be demoted to an ornament for the waist. If there are those that are unable to display it then ‘off with their heads” in the name of good governance.

    Just observing

  22. @ observing(….)

where did you read that last paragraph in the Nation. the last sentence is right down OSA alley for he spares no one when duty calls to chopping their heads off then declares alls well in love and war ask MIA,
