LIME Experiencing Problems At The Border Gateway

LIME experiencing Gateway problems

BU understands that Cable & Wireless is currently experiencing serious Internet networking issues. According to a BU family member the problem is complicated to explain in layman terms but involves something called Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). This is a protocol used by big Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and carriers to exchange routing information between each other.

To translate: several Internet services currently cannot reach Barbados LIME customers. LIME has been experiencing the problem since 13.07.2012 and  it may not be resolved for a few more days. Without an active Fair Trading Commission and Consumer organization the Barbados public is left to ferret information based on the effort of a few good souls.

We also take this opportunity to highlight the recent offer by LIME to double the ADSL bandwidth of customers. Customers should be aware that at the end of the offer is a caveat. If you do not respond to LIME to say you refuse the service your ADSL billing will be increased! It is not free!

Residential
  • 1 goes to Up to 2mbps
  • 1.5 goes to Up to 4mbps (3 month trial, at the end of which, the customer must opt out or will be billed at the new 4mbps rate).
  • 2 goes to Up to 4mbps
Business
  • 2 goes to Up to 4Mbps
  • 4 goes to Up to 8Mbps
  • 6 goes to Up to 12Mbps

  1. Lime and its ambush marketing. If you tell someone that you would like to offer them something and they do not respond that does not mean they have accepted!

  2. LIME and its plethora of problems. Phones don’t work. Automatic disconnection in the middle of a long distance call. Phones ring on lines but not in homes, etc., etc.,

    Should have called themselves LEMON.

    • Does LIME have a Communications Specialist? Given the protracted nature of this problem and seriousness does it warrant a decent response to the market it serves?

  3. @david
LIME doesn’t care and never has. If that caveat in the ad is correct they will have a mountain of legal challenges,.All of Barbados should purposely not respond and then file a class action suit when they see the increase on their bills..LIME is just ridiculous.

  4. Lime will continue to push the envelope until Barbadians decide that they have had enough. There is no gain without pain,so take the inconvenience and send those bastards a very clear message.

  5. I am willing to send Lime the message, but I, and I suspect, many others, are not aware of the alternatives available. Could someone who knows please advise?

Are there in fact viable alternatives?

    • Specifics of the LIME offer updated to the blog.

Well http://Telebarbados.com wireless 1Mbs service works good for me. As far as I know they don’t have 100% coverage of the island yet, but if anyone is dissatisfied with the service from the Limers, it wouldn’t hurt to call Telebarbados to see if they have service to your area.

If you live in their service area, they are also offering a wireless telephone service for local and long distance calls (internet service and unlimited calls to US, Canada and/or UK can be included in one lump sum monthly bill depending on how much you are willing to pay). I have a friend that has their wireless telephone as well as internet service and he seems quite satisfied with them. He went with Telebarbados for his telephone as well as internet because he moved into a new development and Lime was going to charge him a wash of money to run copper to his house.

  8. And today subscribers have been informed that Net2Vu has followed a similar flight path to REDjet.
