These are good things that the DLP has done:

  1. Free bus fares for children resulting in adding to the Transport Board’s $48 million deficit
  2. Free summer camps to the tune of millions to the taxpayers but fatted calf shared to its supporters, including Kenny Best who had a camp, some of their supporters had three camps each
  3. High petrol costs and allowing the Transport Board to run  a gas station illegally so that SOL can make back its millions spent on the DLP campaign and cover the costs of David Thompson flying up and down the world on SOL’s private jet
  4. Increase VAT to 17.5%
  5. Increase water rates by 60%
  6. Building a lot of poorly built chicken coops for houses and not being able to get neither renters or buyers resulting in the NHC not being able to access loans.
  7. Turning NHC into a hell hole in which to work with nepotism running rampant
  8. Firing Marilyn Rice Bowen and installing a brother as chairman while pretending in the by election to be champions of women
  9. Giving away the taxpayers land to JADA at Coverley in exchange for  free plane rides and gifts
  10. Ronald Jones cursing the principals and creating such a hostile atmosphere in the MOE that many senior staffers have left
  11. Stephen Lashley cursing out public servants and telling them to shape up or ship out as if he don’t know the rules governing the public service and now putting a gag order on NCF workers
  12. Raising unemployment from 6.5% to 11% in three years
  13. Spending over 2.5 billion dollars left as foreign reserves and cleaning out the sinking fund  in two years with nothing to show for it
  14. Running up the highest fiscal deficit ever over $500 million
  15. Three cabinet reshuffles in three years

  1. Chaos at the hospital with a minister giving directives to move a patient to a private clinic and then suing the doctor who brought it to light and then the Chairman suspending the said doctor and then had to bring him back after the telemedicine failed
  2. Raising petrol products as they fancy up and down making no sense
  3. Appointing Kellman as minister and then changing the substantive minister to minister without portfolio resulting in the biggest cabinet ever in Barbados
  4. Creating chaos and low staff morale at the Tourism Authority promising to break it up into two companies and now realising that they don’t have money to do so
  5. Minister Lowe making sure when he was in charge of Urban that Patrick Todd’s father house got fixed
  6. Donville Inniss getting a road to his apartments paved
  7. Mass chaos in MPT resulting in more chaos on the road
  8. Supporting CLICO fooling Bajans that it was a sound and well managed company and now refusing to help policyholders in recovering their money

And these are not even all of the good things the DLP has done.

  1. Yes Bajan Truth.

There are 2 segments to the Government Budgetary process.
    1) The estimates of expenditure; which provides itemized estimates of what Government will spend in the relevant year, and:
    2) The Budget; which usually itemizes the source of funds for the earlier estimates. It includes the itemized direct revenues from various sources and where applicable the budget deficit.

The Budget deficit, for simplicity’s sake, is the difference between the total amount needed to carry out the Government’s programme (the estimates of expenditure for the year) and the total amount of money the Government expects to take in from taxes and other sources (the Total Revenue).

The Budget deficit is normally financed from borrowings from local or external sources, Central Bank accomodations, etc. and is usually seen as being paid by future generations since most of these loans are long term. Justification for making the following generations pay for deficits usually are based on the fact that the deficit normally finances long term capital items such as Roads, Harbours, Hospitals and even prisons which those generations will use and it is thought should help pay for.

As far as I am aware practically all Governments in the region typically operate on Budget deficits. Stated differently, there are none or very few regional governments that operate with a surplus of revenue over expenditure. Up to a few years ago, as far as I am aware, only the Cayman Islands and perhaps Trinidad and Tobago, with its Oil revenues, operated on balanced budgets.

I think Christopher Halsall wanted you to incorporate and explain budget deficits in your post that, as far as I could see, had little or nothing to do with budget deficits. Failure to think as he thought made you a liar and anthony an immoral person.

  2. I don’t worry about Chris I felt he misunderstood my post and was not being mischievous.

I had to burst out laughing listening to David Ellis today talking bout the policy on moderators. He was steadfast in not allowing Callender to speak about his situation but after stating to Maxine he does not want a personal discussion allowed her all the latitude to defend herself.
Mr. Ellis yuh memory ain good and it usually it is poor about anything that reflects negatively on you or something said about the Dems. Now come on I heard Ellis say that the media has to play the role of holding the gov’t accountable because the opposition was not doing its job. My two ears. Imagine my shock when Ellis tell a felllow no not he. Nuff people hear he say dat. I could forgive denying hearing Adriel Brathwaite making the statement in parliament about the legislation was needed in a hurry and they could make changes later on. I not sure the caller got it right when he said it was Inniss who echoed the sentiment but I cannot remember who echoed it, but it was echoed by another DLP person. That I am sure of. Mind you it is a bit dishonest to state emphatically that it was not said if you Ellis did not listen to all. I would hate to think you listened to all and deliberately lied, because I HEARD IT MYSELF, NOBODY AIN TELL ME.

The problem with moderators is not their politics, everybody votes and has views. The problem is lack of impartiality in the discharge of the duty of moderating properly. It is stretching ones incredulity to even think that you can accidently select 8 moderators who are sufficiently DLP to command Ministries and board chairmen positions. Impossible to listen to the discharge of that duty and not hear the bias in how the callers are handled, or how alternate views are put . I really don’t buy Ellis’ position that he did not know or people became more political after being made moderators. It was eloquently captured by a previous poster. The problem is that it influenced the population that all was wrong under Arthur, BLP did nothing and all is well or better cannot be done with DLP. Best evidence of the bias was the ignorance perpetrated about David Thompson as the best P.M. and wonderful, when the truth is he had no time to accomplish anything of note. Not a fellow pulled back the excess in the interest not of party, politics etc but integrity. We have to come to a place where truth must prevail, and we cannot afford a media that seeks to downplay any contribution or create mirages for the consumption of the public. Put the whole truth and let the people decide. That includes newsroom editors.

  3. Look OSA use vodoo economics to drive the Barbados economy in his reign. Now that that DLP has to put certain measures in p-lace to stabilze the economy . The BLP istrying to play mind games with the electorate.

I sincerely question who aren’t trying to play with the electorate.

  5. To Me, Tony Marshall is the worse, he is not only bias towards the DLP but he is arrogant with it. I used to be in a certain place where he usually go and his behaviour was as though he is the “top of the line” individual and used to try talking down to people, many a day he used to be humbled by the fellows. On the air he will converse with a caller if the caller is speaking highly about the DLP, another caller either gets the cold shoulder or he tries to humiliate the person, he’s the worse moderator VOB ever had. I stopped calling the programme when he is on.

  6. @ChrisHAsall

You too playing mind games. You for one always talking about anonymous bloggers. Now you have join the lot. What happen to that picture you used to post. Now you using some figment of your imagination.

Using the square root of the square of negative one is a figment of my imagination?

If you were my son, I would question you to within a millimetre of your life for such stupidity….

  8. i or j depend on which field your dealing with is a very important term it used in many thing we take for granted. It is as imaginary as the policy which ac say that will stabilise the economy. Only time will tell if they actually do.

    Sigh…

Alas, some people don’t get my humour. And so, only some laugh.

The rest stand around awkwardly; not quite sure what to say, or do, or where to go…

    They definitely don’t laugh.

It is the awkward humour which is the most precious, IMHO….

  10. As much as I enjoy ripping the BLP , and as much as I am tempted to remind that PAYBACK is a —– you know what, I must admit that I am in agreement with about ninety percent of what Bajan Truth said in relation to Starcom’s position about Moderators. Unless Starcom has adopted that policy Mrs.Ram once employed of NO TALKING in the workplace , there needs to be some other explanation.

  11. I was so incensed with David Ellis’ position with Wendell Callender today that I sent off an email to him but of course it was not read.

I thought that when Maxine McClean called in that he would have say to her……. I heard what you say but isn’t it passing strange that so many of VOB’s moderators ended up in top positions with the Dems? Do you deny that you all infiltrated VOB for the sole purpose of getting the DLP’s message across to bajans to influence the elections?

I well remember Maxine calling in after the Boxhill people were doing their polling questioning the Boxhill workers’ way of polling saying that they came to her house twice. I well remember Atoolalove Corbin calling in questioning the Nation on the post it note on their paper. You cant tell me that these moderators did not have an agenda.

What David Ellis should have asked Maxine is how long before she gave up moderating did she decide to go into active politics. How long? I heard her with my own ears said that she was involved in the planning of the manifesto. Manifestoes take a while to be put together. Did she leave VOB by this time? Was this whilst she was still plying her DLP trade at VOB?

It cannot be such a coincidence that so many of VOB’s moderators or some who have worked at VOB ended up in the bosom of the DLP…… Maxine McClean, Harry Husbands, Atoolalove Corbin, Stephen Lashley, Vere Brathwaite, Steve Blackett, Don Marshall, Phony Marshall, Patrick Gollop, Matthew Farley, Market Vendor, the Hinds lady. Too much of a coincidence. And by contrast any moderator who has a BLP leaning or is too critical of the government is short lived on VOB.

David Ellis is fooling himself that the survey says Phony Marshall is their top moderator, that survey must have only asked Dems because most people I talk to dont listen on Tuesdays or Thursdays, they cant stand Marshall. Once you are a dem, you can talk all you want and lambaste the BLP but if you say anything against the DLP, he wants facts before he proceeds. He has now learnt to be a bit more patient with Vernie, though I think Vernie needs to stop calling Phony.

Maxine said she did not have a bias people sought her out for her intelligence. Please Maxine! If I could see her bias as a listener, how comes Ellis couldn’t see it from inside VOB. Or was VOB in collusion to get the Dems elected!

    Just wondering!

  12. I too was appalled at the lies that went out as tributes in the days following David Thompson’s death. No one dared to say that people were going over board with this “how great thou art” talk. People were afraid to voice a contrary view. All I kept saying is that David Thompson must have been laughing saying I did not know that Bajans were so foolish and that I had them fooled so.
I still vexed with my bank (Scotia) who took out a full page ad with the word integrity and claimed that this was the definition of DT.
And all the foolish talk about legacy, what legacy what, the man had no time to do anything other than to fly about on CLICO and the SOL’s jets!

  13. There was no doubt in my mind no matter what David Ellis said today that VOB allowed itself to be infilitrated by the DLP operatives to influence public opinion and to facilitate DLP callers especially during the last election.

Maxine McClean cant fool the public that she left the program before she went into active politics. She admitted that she helped write the manifesto. These take a while to be put together, when did she do this, while still being at VOB?

David Ellis allowed Maxine to talk but not Wendell Callender. It cant be coincidence that so many of their moderators end up in this government. It had to be planned. Tony Marshall is one of the most biased moderators. How could David not know that he is a hard core Dem and was adviser to Colin Spencer’s campaign.

Strange that David said he does not question moderators political biases but yet he asked the Trinidadian woman on Monday to come and help with moderating. She is a well known vocal supporter of the Dems!

No one with a leaning towards the BLP is allowed to stay on the program.

  14. @Chris Hasall

What son.another figment of your imagination. However I won’t dare to question your stupidty within a millimetre

  15. Bajan Truth

It must be a slow news day when all you can do is discuss the impartiality or lack thereof of moderators on call in shows. If this was an issue your party would have complained long ago your leader certainly wasn’t shy about complaining when he didn’t like the tenor of any item which was critical of Gov’t policies.

Perhaps those moderators were not ideologically drawn to the BLP or DLP but seized the opportunity to serve their country.

BTW was Darcy Boyce associated with any Party before he decided to serve?

  16. To all you haters of VOB moderators
Why don’t you buy wunna own radio station. Then you get to say what yuh dam please about whoever and whatever whenever. Wunnahad 14 years to crticise the Dems now the shoe is on the other foot wunna complaining !stop being so supersensitive 14 years is a long time

  17. Appollo,

Add today’s blunder to the list of good things that the DLP has done.

How could the Minister of Finance bring a measure in the debate taxing allowances but now today the NUPW is getting the government to back down. Can the governmment remove the tax from public workers and not from the rest of the private sector?

The Minister of Finance tells part time students that they have to get their degrees in four years now, Anthony Wood told the country during the by election that the least you can give students is five years but the everyone was focused on the non issue of Mara Thompson’s nationality and did not deal with the issue. Now we have the Minister of Education reversing the Minister of Finance’s decison.

They passed a law in the House yesterday, the BLP pointed out certain concerns, the AG said they will make changes as they go along. (Yes David Ellis, the AG actually said this).

The BLP points out that the Minister of Finance cannot increase bus fares like he did, Chris Sinckler instead of acknowledging that he did not know, he calls Owen Arthur petty. But he says nothing of the illegal sale of petrol by the Transport Board.

Chris Sinckler increases the VAT on hotels, he had to delay the imposition of the said tax.

Who advises this government? Do they listen to their PS? Cant they get anything right?

If the government has to roll back so many of the tax measures, how are they going to collect the revenue that they intended to collect. We are going to be in worse shape come later in the year.

  18. @ Sargeant

People of the ilk of Boyce and Hammie are referred to as political whores. When Dees lose election he will only be able to continue his trade at Bush Hill, if no spot can be found for him at Dodds.
