Your message to the BLOGMASTER was sent

Minister of Agriculture

The attached full page statement in two parts (1,2) appears in the Sunday Sun, page 18A of 17 October 2010. The statement was signed by someone named ‘Barbadian’.  The statement is clear in what it sets out to do, i.e. list the exemplary record of Minister David Estwick while at the economic planning ministry. It also seeks to disassociate Minister Estwick from decisions taken by the Ministry of Finance.

It appears while most Democratic Labour Party supporters are currently revelling in the misfortune of the Barbados Labour Party leadership tug-a-war interests close to Estwick have determined this to be an opportune time to fire a cannonball across the bow of the Ship DLP. Perhaps the signal by Estwick is opportune given what is the bigger issue at play.

We are living in interesting times.

  1. @Hants

Just for you and the family we have procured a scan until we get a more user-friendly copy.

  2. Thanks David.

  3. David the person wrote that he or she was an ADVISOR to David Estwick.

That person must be even more brilliant than Estwick.

We need to find out who that Advisor is. It might explain their “motivation”.

  4. In the DLP injudicious remarks have been made by a”few”, be careful you do not push the door to that arid broad expanse of political oblivion.

To lead a party you must have local appeal, a safe constituency, and a name that means something to the broader electorate, without that your horizons are limited. . . harsh but true.

Take a fresh guard, be a team player and great will be your reward; two or three gathered together are not a crowd. The DLP is the umbrella that shades you from the harsh reality of opposition . . . take note and be wise.

  5. If the elected members of the DLP do not normalize the situation by being decisive regarding the choosing of a new leader, will Barbados ask whether those members are really equipped to make the hard decisions needed to govern the country?

  6. VOB put on a show to speak about the problems in the BLP. Lo and behold the lecturer from UWI said he was there to speak on those problems and Sanka Price change it around to speak about the DLP and the PM resigning as the big issue while Mia and Owen was a side issue. Nice spin Sanka, your slip is truly showing.
He said that all on the minibuses the people say they want back Owen. Well Mr. Price you are just like Hartley Henry pushing political spin.
    Let wait and see.

  7. @Yardbroom,

What we could be seeing is a craving for power.

The notion of becoming a politician to serve the people seems to be secondary to the pursuit of power and wealth.

    These are very interesting times.

  8. @Charlie

To be fair Sanka’s point is valid. The issue with the PM’s sickness merits some discussion because some feel it is the catalyst which has spared the BLP leadership squabble. Added it has immediate national consequences given the role of government in managing an economy in a recession.

  9. Hi Hants
A great politician knows how to use power, if you cannot handle the little things, it is unlikely you can show merit when in charge of major issues. He knows when to sharpen his sword and when to sheathe it.

A little remark about tomorrow’s meeting.

Some say “it is not fair,” since when has politics been about being fair.

Prince Machiavell [1469-1527] one of the founders of political science never thought anything about being fair.

Julius Caesar’s friend and an assassin, ambitious but was he fair?

Only a few weeks ago Ed Milliband challenged his “own brother” to become leader of the the Uk’s Labour Party.

It is not a male thing, Margaret Thatcher challenged Edward Heath to become leader of the conservatives, the man who promoted her. . he never forgave her.

    Politics is a numbers game.

The next General Election in Barbados can only be lost by the DLP; they alone and only they will lose it.

Without a clear “ideology” men are like straws drifting in the wind; personal gain and perceived importance before the down-trodden people. . . may God help us.

  10. It should be noted many of those projects listed in the full page ad are just that projects. What the author of the ad omitted to update was the status of said projects, were they started, in progress, completed? Don’t take Bajans for fools man!

  11. David; One must ask; Are these full paid ads genuine? Did David Estwick approve or have foreknowledge of them? What precipitated the timing of the publication of these Ads?

Since, I think it would have been very unprofessional of the Nation to publish these ads without checking with the subject of them beforehand, given the current situation in the Island, I suspect that David Estwick did indeed have some foreknowledge of the ads and possibly allowed them to be printed.

Ast what precipitated the timing of the Ads, I think it is the same fact that precipitated the Gang of 5 in the BLP to attempt, perhaps successfully, to decapitate that body. It seems clear from looking closely at all the clues that there is a feeling in high up quarters in the DLP and BLP that David Thompson’s demise or resignation from office is imminent. Given this isn’t it possible the Dr Estwick felt that now was the opportune moment to make his play.
The most important thing in the ad, to my mind, is that the writer seeks to dissociate Dr. Estwick from certain decisions on the economy. That could only be if Dr Estwick appreciates that those decisions are going to be like hemlock to the DLP in the coming days and weeks.

  12. @checkout-it

Surprisingly there is a certain naivete to the ad.

Where does the Estwick surrogate register that in a Cabinet in the Westminster system there is what is held has collective responsibility?

  13. The DLP could lose an opportunity to capitalise on the problems in the BLP.

All they have to do is focus on governing and put aside personal ambitions.

If David Estwick wants to be Prime Minister, this is not the time for a leadership fight. He should show some character and leadership and put the needs of the people first and the party second.

  14. There seem to be a serious pandemic plaguing both political parties in Barbados. I have never seen some much cut throat business in all my life. I wonder how it spreading? By mosquitoes or Big Black African Snails?

  15. David
    Take your point
He never once in this program came over like the Owen Mia saga is a problem. It is a big issue just like David Thompson’s incapacity.
He even suggested that if the PM resigns the government should call an election so that the person can get their own mandate. He like he trying to set up the DLP. Let Mia and Owen fight for the next three years.
The reason there seems to be a vacuum in Government is the low key behavior of Freundel Stuart. I do not think he can lead the DLP to victory.
I want to know what makes politicians feel that they are so important. In the next three years see them at your door begging you to vote for them. On election Day up and down the road with a pocketful of money looking to buy votes because a lot of young people do not vote until they get money. Those who win with less than a hundred votes should thank that money. David Estwick admitted he had to take anger management counseling. He pulled a gun in parliament

  16. Should read above
David Estwick admitted he had to take anger management counseling. He pulled a gun in parliament which will go against him in a debate. Now what makes him feel he can become the Prime Minister.

  17. David;
Collective responsibility is unlikely to be a deterrent to one who wants to (and perhaps can) show that he, personally, wasn’t responsible for some of the egregious financial decisions and actions that might have been taken by the David Thompson Government. For argument’s sake only, Suppose it comes out, when a new PM takes over, that the handling of the CLICO matter by the DLP government was the most damaging thing that has happened to this economy. Do you think that, with David Thompson having left the stage, the others will easily associate themselves with that possible blunder. I think that they would all try to get out of the collective responsibility mantra and seek to show that they were not personally involved in the decisions thereto, if they could.

On another matter. It appears that Chris Sinckler is moving apace to get the budget prepared and debated asap. The business community and others asked for this to be treated as a matter of urgency and he is to be commended on this. But could there be an additional rationale for the apparent haste? Could it be that there would be some uncertainty as to the positions of any current minister, reshuffled or not, if a new Prime Minister comes on stream soon and that it is very important for Chris to be seen as having put forward and defended the budget at this time. With a new energized Prime Minister he might not be Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs.

  18. Don’t look back but here comes Kelly…lol

  19. David; Could you expand on or explain your last post? I’m a bit more lost than usual.

  20. @Checkit-out

Kelly is the aka for Ambassador Denis kellman.

  21. The big political rumblings that are taking place within both these two old outdated intellectually and politically bankrupt discredited factions – the DLP and the BLP – do strongly powerfully indicate some of the reasons why both of them must be sent packing from the parliament of Barbados within seven years time.

It is again patently clear – by reason of these rumblings and other disgraces – that both DLP and BLP are totally incapable of running the affairs of this country at the highest levels.

It has been a very long time that we have been saying this, and certainly at this point in time we do feel a sense of vindication at the fact of these rumblings taking place within both these wretched corrupt stifling parties.

We dare to say that these will continue in a very serious and ever burgeoning way until these parties are permanently thrown out of the parliament of this country.

Ever since the death of the late great Errol Barrow a type of low class expedient corrupt money status driven politics has been pervading the body politic of this country, and has been viciously promoted by the main political personalities and backers of these two old dying bilgy factions.

This type of degenerate politics has been attempting to significantly replace or overpower the practice of conviction strategic developmental politics in this country, which itself came directly out of the post-emancipation struggle years ago by the labouring productive classes in Barbados for greater political rights, equality, privileges, wealth, income for themselves (the masses and middle classes of people) in this country.

Thus, such a politics was helped defined very much by the clear cut logical substantial socialist nationalist political beliefs and activities of persons like Dr. Charles Duncan Oneal, Samuel Jackman Prescod, Clement Payne, Grantley Adams, Errol Barrow, Wynter Crawford, and by many other people who followed them and their activities.

It is such exemplary visionary political beliefs and activities that altogether culminated in the granting by the colonial power – Britain – of things like universal adult suffrage in 1950 in the country, like independence to Barbados in 1966.

Indeed, such a politics did not stop there, as that, in the immediate post independence period in this country, such a type of politics was best identified with that which was clearly substantially defined by the virtuous magnaminous political principles and activities of persons like Dr. Richie Haynes – who had the vision in the late 1980s to start ( and to kill in a matter of 11 years or so) his own party- the National Democratic Party (NDP), which, we think, produced the first ever party Manifesto to therein call for the removal of the Queen as Head of State of this country; like Dr. Don Blackman – who sought in the 1990s to redress, in many ways, certain race based material financial imbalances in the country; Sir Lloyd Sandiford – who in the early 1990s challenged, to some extent, some of the power elites in the country; Mr. Dennis Kellman and Mr. Hamilton Lashley – two prominent defenders of many “poor” people rights in this country; Mr. David Comissiong – a crusader for social justice – and a founder of the People’s Empowerment Party.

Well, it can easily be said that Dr. David Estwick – given his dynamic political persona and his many erudite political statements and positions – is also of that human social spirit that has been at the epicentre of the many great contributions that many of these particular individuals (Haynes and company) have been making towards the further greater emancipation and empowerment of the masses and middle classes of people of this country.

What has been patently clear, though, is that such personalities and their views/positions – and let us at this point say how very informed these views and positions have been/ how they are in most parts – have almost always been and will almost always be certain to be at the centre of potential/conflicts between themselves and many status quo reactionary others within esp. the said same dying DLP/BLP that they would/have been/ are a part of.

Owing to the fact that the DLP/BLP no longer, and will never again – and this is since the 80s – damn well carry forward or embrace that kind of human social liberation spirit, it is clear that such a ceaseless, timeless, spirit grande must be carried forward by very enlightened and progressive political people far more strongly than recently and must naturally settle in other NEWER/ NEWLY FORMED parties that are primarily all about such and the building of an entirely new ethos around such a spirit in this country and beyond. This amounts to saying that there must be a proper definition and realignment of the political systemic culture in Barbados and beyond.

Thus, it is not too late for Mr. Dennis Kellman, Dr. David Estwick, Mr. Hamilton Lashley, and even Ms. Mia Mottley to go and together form their own party or parties – like how Mr. Comissiong has gone and done ( the Barbados political market can easily support the existence of some other new/newer political change based parties), and which therefore will allow themselves and their many potential/supporters to in their own ways help carry forward that human social liberation cause spirit beyond the very narrow confines of a decadent degenerate politics, and into the realms of a most substantial and resurgent developmental politics for Barbados.

    Thank You.

    PDC

  22. PDC
You assumption that Denis kellman and David Estwick can win a seat in a new party is not well thought out. BLP voters do not vote for any other party therefore the BLP candidates will win because the DLP voters who vote for other parties will split their votes like when the NDP came on the scene.

  23. There is collective responsibility and then there is David Estwick responsibility, if Mr. Eswick didn’t author this “ad” then the person who submitted it has done him a great disservice. However, I’m sure the Nation even with all of its shortcomings would have checked with Mr. Estwick to see whether he “approved this message”. I fail to see why someone would pay for a full page ad (what is the cost of ad space at the Nation?) to promote a political figure without some approval or “nod and wink” from the beneficiary.

From the paean to Mr. Estwick it looks like he has started to campaign for a job that is still occupied. A moral person would resign from the Cabinet so he can focus his energy on his campaign. If I was one of his colleagues I would be hesitant to voice my opinion on any controversial decision around the Cabinet table lest I see it regurgitated in the press. It is one thing to campaign for a job, but to trample on your colleagues in an attempt to secure that job smacks of crassness and desperation.

  24. Isn’t this remarkable that at a time when arthur is making a move for the BLP leadership, this is happening?

    Think about it?

Somebody is reaching into the DLP again? If Mia Mottley is fired tomorrow, Roger Smith should be worried.

He will be de-selected and herein is the reason.

Stay tuned for Episode 2 of the ‘Politics of Inclusion.’

  25. OWEN SEYMOUR ARTHUR IS NOT craving any power
THE PEOPLE IN BARBADOS WANT OWEN

    BAJANS AINT FOOLISH YOU KNOW
THEY MIGHT DO FOOLISH THINGS AT TIMES-(Like voting for the DLP IN 2008) but Bajans aint foolish.

They know with David sick Barbados needs the experience.
Mia has youth on her side. It is simple.
    Barbados needs

  26. BUT NOBODY IS MENTIONING THE PDC

    WHY ?

    PDC IS A JOKE !

  27. PDC needs to be more VISIBLE at this time

    Not seeing PDC

    PDC IS A JOKE!–OR WHAT

  28. @Sargeant

One of those fullpage ads go for about six thousands dollars.

  29. You see this, this is the politics of politics. More of the same. Whereas Barbados needs a LEADER.

Something new and fresh. Something difference.

This country needs new direction – a new path, whether it be Mia Mottley, Stuart, Sinckler – whoever.

Most of all, this country needs God.

Barbados is at crossroads, but God is working.

    Read: 1 Samuel 15 v 10-34.

  30. Charlie,

We have not assumed that at all.

What we were saying is that “it is not too late for Mr. Dennis Kellman, Dr. David Estwick, Mr. Hamilton Lashley, and even Ms. Mia Mottley to go and together form their own party or parties – like how Mr. Comissiong has gone and done ( the Barbados political market can easily support the existence of some other new/newer political change based parties), and which therefore will allow themselves and their many potential/supporters to in their own ways help carry forward that HUMAN SOCIAL LIBERATION CAUSE SPIRIT beyond the very narrow confines of a decadent degenerate politics, and into the realms of a most substantial and resurgent developmental politics for Barbados.”

What the PDC was in fact there implying is that the necessary breaking of this worthless DLP BLP cycle must become one of the country’s fundamental national political objectives – redefinition/realignment of the political systemic culture – which will be some thing far more laudable to achieve in the interest of the country and in the interest of many poor and marginal people than any transient satisfaction derived from mere reference to ( however unsupported) the performance of different political electoral varibles (performing in similar conditions).

If Mr. Dennis Kellman, Dr. David Estwick, Mr. Hamilton Lashley, Ms. Mia Mottley, and other prominent political people were to right now recognize that this old party was useless and discredited, and had to relentless say so, so that the majority of the citizenry could properly hear and understand that it is so by their cogently providing the reasons, and were to then later resign from the DLP/BLP, and go and form their own permanent parties – thus joining the PDC/PEP – on the basis of making a big difference for the country, the chances of the DLP/BLP winning the government would become signficantly reduced over the next 2 or so elections, given that at present we have arrived at the conclusion that FEWER than 2/8 of the voter population actively support the DLP/BLP, and given that the core support base of the DLP/BLP together is fewer than 7000 people.

The NDP was formed in 1989. By 1994, in a 5 year period after contesting 2 general elections, it had achieved about 8 or more % of the valid votes cast in the 1994 general election. On the upward growth path that it had been achieving , and if it had become more buoyant vibrant than it was in 1994, today it would have been benefitting from the terrible effects of the disgraces and dissonances within the DLP/BLP all along, and possibly would have been the government at this point.

    PDC

  31. @PDC

What is the philosophical position that would fuel a third party?

At this point we have a grab for the leadership by others, it was note initiated by MAM.

    Ostensibly her perspective remains BLP

  32. If I was someone who had it in my power to dictate who rules in the country of Barbados ,this is what I would do:-I would tell Mia Mottley to cross the floor and done de dance.End of story!!I would make Dr. Estwick the speaker of the house assembly and let him do some listening for a change or keep more noise. I am so freaked out at the present political climate in Bim, that I shudder to think what would happen next.Check this out:-I would make BU the main newspaper.like Forest Gump says-“Shit Happens”.

  33. KISSMYA,

“PDC needs to be more VISIBLE at this time” – KISSMYA – October 17, 2010, 5:00 pm post.

Many people within our party and among our supporters have been saying so. We acknowledge that we need to be more visible at this stage in the country.

However, at this present time we are putting plans in place for the future better functioning of our party and for bettering of its social political relationships with others, as well as we are implementing plans for the participation of our party in the next elections in the country.

We are aiming to get greater political and other supports from many quarters in this country in the lead up to the next elections.

Once the Almighty allows and the majority of the people in this country determine, the achievement of one of our major political philosophic quests – to be around for a very long time and to become a greater political force to be reckoned with in this country fighting on the behalf of the masses and middle classes in many areas of social life in Barbados -must be achieved.

    Make no doubts about it!!!

Finally, though, KISSMYA, almost all of what ever we do now must be done in the fundamental interests of the country and its people, and in the best interests of the future development of the country’s people, and must not based on the caprices whim and fancies of many others, especially a self serving few.

    Thank You.

    PDC

  34. @Bajan Panday

You say “Most of all, this country needs God.”

Dem got God already, it is called “A POLITICIAN” and the religion is POLITICS! There is very little difference between politics and religion.

  35. PDC needs to be seen
    Timing is important
    Seize the moment
    Now is the Time
    amalgamate with PEP
    INFILTRATE THE BLP/DLP

    Do something PDC

  36. In Julius Caesar, where there were the conspirators, the BLP gang of 5 or the local conspirators have also manufactured a superficial motive for wanting to remove Mia Mottley.

They say that it is some letter that is the final straw. Sounds familiar?

In Julius Caesar the conspirators petitioned Caesar to bring back a man who he had banished knowing quite well that Caesar would not agree to such madness.

So that when Caesar said “NO,” they immediately drove their daggers in him. Reluctantly, Brutus is last. At this point, Caesar utters the famous line “Et tu, Brute?” (“And you, Brutus?”, i.e. “You too, Brutus?”).

The stab which Mia Mottley will feel most tomorrow will be that of her Deputy, Dale Marshall, and like Caesar, that will floor her.

It is at that point that she is likely to tell herself that she does not want to survive such treachery.

Like the conspirators who said they did it for Rome, the BLP gang of 5 will try to make clear that they committed this act for the BLP and not for their own purposes (lust, greed, ambition, power & wealth)

The Mark Anthony in all this could be Trevor Prescod.

If yesterday‘s Sun on Saturday is anything to go by, we know that already there is a move to expel ‘Payne’ from the BLP, symbolic of the conspirators being banished from Rome.

  37. David,

Yes, it seems by and large that her perspective remains BLP. Does that means she is still committed to the BLP??

But, she also seems very rattled by the current events therein – given an image of her that we saw today somewhere, Sunday Sun???.

Our reading of this still image is that she has clearly accepted that her leadership has been terribly undermined and scuttled. She strikes an image of one of despondence and looks pretty much vulnerable to more political attacks. It is clear that in this calamitious atmosphere she does not see much value in being the Opposition Leader. It also appears that she has resigned to these forces that have gathered against her, largely in pursuance of many of their own narrow minded goals and objectives. Also, she will find greater social political value in taking refuge in most things outside of the current BLP imbroglio – family, close friends, vacation overseas, etc.

What must be very much on her mind is how is she going to function in any environment – in a party – where there were plots to remove her!! How will she be best able to put forward an apperance that she and they are still one given the palace coup?? How will her spirit take such?? Her spirits and emotions that are UNCONTROLLABLE?? Nevermind what the active mind says must be done or appear to look right ??

So, David, take a look at the plots that went against Dr. Richie Haynes, and the machiavellian efforts that led to the appointment of the then Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados without his understanding such before the fact of the appointment and that largely led to his leaving the DLP?? And, disagreement between himself and Sandiford on fiscal matters then?? and see what ideas lessons can be gleaned from such and compare them with Ms. Mottley’s case and see if predictions can be made or better yet if more informed understandings can be arrived at on her part – by you – in her case as to what political direction she is/may be heading in right now – Remain/Leave/hibernate etc.

Look also at the Mascoll experience. With the kind of treatment that was meted out to him by some within the DLP, hereally and truly had to flee also. For, he could not stomach a situation of another palace coup, and still be among the coup plotters if he had remained, so he left permanently. But again see what can be gleaned from such and compare them with Ms. Mottley’s case and see if predictions can be made or better yet if more informed understandings can be arrived at on her part – by you – in her case as to what political road she is/may be travelling in right now – Remain/Leave/hibernate etc.

Look at the Sandiford experience – with the vote of no-confidence that helped to bring about his downfall. Has Sandiford ever politically emotionally recovered from such a tragedy that was inflicted by many seniors within his own party?? NOOOOOOO!!!
Just like how Sandiford was thought to be an electoral liability and was shunted aside, Ms. Mia Mottley is also seen as an electoral liability, but will a vibrant strong lady allow her self to be shunted aside by a gang of political individuals??? NOOOOOO!!!! If Mia Mottley really decides to stay on in the BLP, really and truly there will remain many more rumblings ahead in the BLP, by the look at the nature of many things therein.

Given that it appears that she still has many political virtues and principles to stand on ( her sympathy with Mr. Thompson has been extraordinary, she seems a very inclusive person – a consensus builder – a stabilizer – these are the most close up mental pictures one can obtain of her for the first time in her political career), it is clear that – given what has been happening in the BLP and to her, and given many of the efforts that she has ben making like so many others that have sought to muchly change hard ass donkey ass mulish political parties from particular attitudes and conditions to others more salubrious and progressive, that those efforts that she has been making have largely failed to achieve certain objectives for herself and a few others.

Believe it, while Ms. Mottley may wish NEVER wish to come back again at the helm of the BLP, or even stay around in the BLP – and this might very well have to do with how the public support is for her or not, for the plotters or not, or might very well have to do with how many in the public/BLP construe the way how she has been very dastardly inhumanly way in which she was dealt with in the public/BLP, and would have been prepared to respond in whatever ways, she must forever realize that while it is easier to change individuals/people it is harder to change organizations – esp. political ones.

Too, the very slim slim possibility exists that Ms Mottley could well return as Political Leader of the BLP – but only after the BLP is defeated next elections – but clearly again with some of what she would like to bring about – and that are so especially dear to her heart – in the oldest most intellectually politically bankrupt discredited party in this country, she must moreover realize that in those regards with her absentia from leadership nothing much would have changed and therefore nothing much will happen away from what she would like to bring about, if she so desires to return to the helm.

Therefore, her time could be better spent if she helps to change many others in the country with the backing of HER OWN PARTY – but of course she will have to make certain personal familial wealth sacrifices in the long term. But is she like David Comissiong who has somewhat made many such sacrifices??? Is she prepared for such politically personally??? Is she politically patient?? NOOOOO!!!

Indeed, Ms Mottley’s political future one way or another looks rather grim bleak. What a downfall it would be if she does not form her own party but instead would seek to remain with the BLP, or leave and join the DLP, the PEP. So, from Education, Youth, and Culture Minister, to Attorney General/Home Affairs to Deputy Prime Minister/Attorney General/Home Affairs to Deputy Prime Minister/Economic Affairs to ?????

    PDC

  38. KISSMYA,

The late paramount leader of China – Mao Zedong – is reported to have remarked that politics is war without bloodshed and war is politics with blodshed.

Strategy and planning are very important in politics and war.

It took the USA and some other militaries to come together and defeat the Iraqi military twice – 1990/1 and 2003……and to install a different regime in 2003 in the end, evilly wrongly, however. The USA could not have done it fighting on its own in a conventional warmode.

The DLP/BLP must be attacked from many flanks by more than two newer political organizations, the least is five serious people-centered progressive political organizations – and such political organizations must also have such goals or they are wasting the Barbadian people’s time and energy – or else they may be nothing more than attention garnering vehicles of their founders or leaders.

One of our fundamental political strategic goals is to see the entire marginalization and removal of the DLP/BLP from the parliament of this country. Amalgamating with any other political organizations will not cut it, KISSMYA.

  39. Women like you and I have always made the difference in every election, and starting now – as never before, your voice, the stand you must take and your hope will be the deciding factors in brining about change and in forging a new future for Barbados.

No one is simply asking you to trust in Mia Mottley’s ability to bring change to Barbados but you must trust your ability and know that for generations, women like you and I have been the backbone of this country as mother, wives, caregivers, counsellor while providing unmatched service to Barbados as a support base and a unifying force.

You must be willing to fight for your cause and must kick down the notion that the only reason you and your daughters cannot become Prime Minister of Barbados, is because they are a woman.

I believe that this is our moment to finally take a stand. To say enough! This is our moment to create that future that we so desperately want.

A future where a woman can become and remain Leader of the Opposition because she is more competent that the five who seek to remove her.

A country where a woman can become Prime Minister based on her ability.

We know that we are up against men who want power and dominance. Men who want to maintain the status quo.

Men who will do and say anything even turn to corruption just to keep what they have and get what they want.

TAKE A STAND AGAINST CORRUPTION IN BARBADOS AND AUTOMATICALLY YOU BECOME THE ENEMY OF THOSE MEN WHO ENGAGE IN ELECTORAL FRAUD TO ACHIEVE THEIR GOAL.

  40. David! David! David! Let me say this, if we were on a three person Island, Robinson Crusoe, David Estwick and I, David Estwick still would not be in charge of anything. If it was possible to strip him of his Barbadian citizenship, we should do that and send his ass to Afghanistan, but the afghans probably would not want him. Again, another self righteous, self opinionated jack ass. He acts as if the instruments of political power, were given to him by the Governor General. People are disgusted with those sorts of ignoramuses running around Barbados, acting like they are entitled to some pre-ordained right of passage to the office of Prime Minister. The people of Barbados need to facilitate Mr Estwick in his stead to draw an early pension. The DLP certainly has enough political operatives, to replace this political simpleton ASAP.

  41. Whereas in Julius Caesar, the conspirators, alsoi has a frivilous motive the BLP gang of 5 or the local conspirators have also manufactured a superficial motive for wanting to remove Mia Mottley.

They say that it is some letter that is the final straw. Sounds familiar?

The stab which Mia Mottley will feel most tomorrow will be that of her Deputy, Dale Marshall, and like Caesar, that will floor her.

It is at that point that she is likely to tell herself that she does not want to survive such treachery.

If the Sun on Saturday is anything to go by, we know that already there is a move to expel Pain from the BLP, symbolic of the conspirators being banished from Rome

  42. Dr David Estwick & Dennis Kellman are no political heavyweights in Barbados. Both of them won their respective seats as a result of the Democratic Labour Party. In other words, they did not received personal votes in the volume to make them winners.Dr David Estwick & Dennis Kellman are as strong as the party they represent.
The Democratic Labour Party ought to replace both Dr Estwick & Dennis Kellman from their ranks. Both of them should go.
St Philip South & St Lucy constituencies are traditionally strong Democratic Labour Party seats and any decent candidate selected by the Democratic Labour Party can easily win those seats.
Prime Minister David Thompson should fire Dr David Estwick from his cabinet right now and the General Council or which ever body in the party is responsible for disciplinary matters should come to a consensus by dismissing both political weaklings in Dr David Estwick & Dennis Kellman.None of the two of them has a strong base in either the party or their constituencies.
The egomaniacs & lunatics in political life in Barbados must recognise that loyalty to an organisations means a lot.Everyone cannot be the leader of the organisation.Team players & team work are require for success to be achieved and in this regard I do not see either Dr David Estwick or Dennis Kellman fitting into the role of a team player. Therefore,in the interest of the party and the country at large both Dr David Estwick & Dennis Kellman should go.The Democratic Labour Party will not be ther poorer with they absence.

  43. Negroman.
Take a trip to St. Lucy and make that stupid statement about Mr. Kellman. At the moment both the DLP and the BLP are on an implosive curve. One is vocal and transparent, the other is silent and hypocritical. Unfortunately, Owen will find the going extremely rough if re-elected to be PM again. All focus will be on his economic plans and he will be measured more than ever for his efforts. Any mistakes or failures will be his swift demise……….Talk about limelight!

  44. Negroman
In the election before the last; Pizzaman Doc had Kellman so good that it was only after David Thompson went and campaign for him that he won.
I agree that the DLP should not stand for any foolishness from Estwick. They are the government and have something to offer, if he does not fall in line with party wishes, replace him as minister.
If David Thompson was not sick he would not be behaving like an idiot.

  45. What is the philosophical position that would fuel a third party? – David, in his last post ( so far ) under this thread.

    David,

There are four parties in Barbados: BLP, DLP, PDC, PEP.

We have even heard about a fifth one – the United Reformation Congress.

So, therefore, it is a little incongrous for any one ( such as you, David) to think about a third party or third parties in a real sense.

Also, many of us ( not you DAVID now) need to disabuse of the notion that there are only two parties in Barbados – the BLP and the DLP. It seems that those who think this way – out of envy spite – do so primarily because they do not wish to see newer parties become politically successful in this country.

Also, to think that there are just two parties is absolute rubbish.

For, when a few individuals like David Ellis, Pat Hoyos, etc. decide to think this way, it will do nothing to stop the situation in this country whereby many Barbadians – who are committted to making sure a better Barbados comes about – and on the basis of a social political imperative in action – are keen to replace the DLP and the BLP in this country, and with the support of so many lovely people, or to realize their removal from the parliament of this country in the long term.

However, to answer your question – one of the philosophical positions that must guide newer parties in this 21 st century in Barbados is that such parties must take the vast majority of their political outlooks and activities to the mainstream of Barbadian political society. Of course, they themselves do not have to be main stream political parties.

By failing to do so however, such parties will be helping to marginalize themselves more and more within the political society. By reason of the fact that the Barbadian political culture does not have a history of leftist and rightist parties being no where close to being successful, and by reason of the fact that the centre ground is where most political views and activities are cultivated, cross-fertilized, fashioned, established, it would be very politically intellectually wise prudent to place any newer party at the centre of the ideological political spectrum in Barbados, esp. if it wishes to win government in Barbados.

Therefore, David, there is really no real political logic – if one wants to win an election in Barbados – behind labelling a party as a leftist or rightist party – none whatsoever.

Moreover, there really would be no point in many of this newer party’s members being able to master things English – drinking tea, speaking/writing the English American Language, dressing in business suits for most of the day, practicing English Western law, medical, business and other professional standards, playing cricket, soccer, and partaking in many other Western things, and still not be able to master the fact that the middle of the ground politics – or the pratice of it is – is where parties have been most successful in elections in the UK, USA, and that it is from there where any newer party in Barbados can – just like the DLP/BLP once did – make the most impact, even without it itself being classified as a main stream political party.

So far, we are moving our way upwards in this regard and there will be no stopping us once the Almighty and our growing legion of supporters remain on our side in the long term.

At this moment we take the opportunity to let you and others know that we take extreme offence umbrage at any one on here or elsewhere labelling us as a leftist party. We are NOT and WILL NEVER BE a leftist party, a communist party, a socialist party, and therefore we MUST NOT be described as such.

It is therefore NONSENSICAL DOWNRIGHT STUPID for anyone to do or say or write any thing contrary to such. For, we are a people’s centered progressive nationalist developmentalist party, that is what we can be labelled as.

Why we have come to this point too is because it has been recently drawn to our attention by some of our friends who read this BU blog that there have been one or two commenters who – some days ago – sought to wrongly label the People Democratic Congress ( PDC) as a leftist party.

Now, even though we have not found the offending comments on BU we want to let such individuals know that had they done their home work and studied our documents statements utterances over the years they would realize that such a description clearly does not suit us.

Surely, such individuals must learn not to be so reckless with themselves and as to the facts.

Anyhow, so much for their having been malacious too!!!

    PDC

  46. Does anyone remember what happened in 2006 with Dr. Estwick and his constituency branch – it will make for some interesting reading. Check out who prpoposed the no confidence motion at that time. We here in Bim defeintely have short memories. The Nation Newspaper reported:

    Estwick out?
    by NEVILLE CLARKE

BRIDGETOWN – The St Philip West Branch of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) last night spoke in a loud voice.

They do not want incumbent MP Dr David Estwick to represent them at the next general election.

Last night the branch overwhelmingly passed a resolution expressing no
    confidence in the embattled incumbent.

The resolution, which was proposed by constituent and attorney-at-law Adriel Brathwaite and seconded by Fitz Harewood, asked that steps be taken assoon as possible to identify a candidate to carry the party’s banner in the constituency in the next general election.

By a margin of 22 votes with one abstention, the constituents made it clear they no longer had any confidence in Estwick, who failed to turn up at the meeting.

Speaking to the DAILY NATION at the conclusion of the meeting which attracted over 40 party members and supporters, Brathwaite said: “No one is more important than the branch or the DLP. Estwick has publicly said that he has no intention of working with this branch as can be seen from yesterday’s article carried in the SUNDAY SUN and the branch has resolved that the party finds a replacement candidate for Estwick as soon as possible.”

Chairman of the branch, Carl Mapp, said the resolution would be forwarded to general secretary of the party, George Pilgrim, later today.

Mapp also assured the party faithful present that he expected the resolution to be brought before the Executive Council on Wednesday and the General Council at a later date.

Meanwhile, reacting to last night’s development, Estwick said that “no illegitimate management committee of St Philip West can call a branch meeting of the membership”, and has scheduled a Press conference for 10 a.m. today at his branch office at Garrett Road, Mangrove, St Philip.

Questioning the legality of yesterday’s meeting which was held at Princess Margaret Secondary School, the St Philip West MP said: “The Executive Council for 2004/2005 ruled that the management committee which called yesterday’s meeting was illegal and ruled that it could not hold office in St Philip West because several of the members were not resident in the constituency.

“This is in breach of Clause 41 of the party’s constitution. This means that the management committee cannot determine anything about the constituency.”
