Bushie listened to part of Lloyd’s comments. No wonder he was the colossus that he was as a player and captain. The damn man is intelligent, thoughtful, controlled and decisive. He is a natural leader.
As Bushie always say….. we should be looking at persons who have been successful leaders in meaningful areas – to assume leadership in higher areas.
If we were serious, someone like Lloyd would be president of WICB …. (or of Guyana, Barbados etc) Instead, we go for idiotic lawyers and economists who could not run a snow cone cart successfully on Kadooment day.
Remember a few years when Lloyd made himself available there was some horsetrading and he found himself on the outside looking in, a banker from Antigua or one of the other islands got the pick.

To quote Lloyd it was an unprofessional performance. With the opportunity to whitewash South Africa BU selectors would have played the strongest team.

Other than Gayle who else would have made this a better side? It certainly shows that the team is not as ‘good’ as they think they are.
The team on the pitch today was a solid one but they absolutely did not play well. Maybe it was a mental lapse but based on their manager’s remarks they were very keen to beat SA 3-0.
The centurion from SA was dropped in the 2nd or 3rd over and a definite run-out missed in the 1st over. Were those chances taken we could be looking at a very different result.
Just as how a few close calls in the first two matches could have made a difference too.
You answered the question, Gayle would have strenghtened the team along with Holder and Ramdin. Also there is the thought about disrupting a winning team.
Yes David but the series was won and Gayle was seen to be ‘gippy’ (what I saw in highlights) on the other days. He has the ODIs upcoming and it was reasonable to ‘rest’ him and see the others players.
Simmons (Gayle’s replacement) did comparatively well.
Fletcher in this format is as effective in front the stumps as is Ramdin.
Nurse was certainly out of depth today but there were several other bowlers on the field who could have plugged the hole.
So, sir, if this is a one man (Gayle) team then we are in a bad way. He is the only way we can win!!
Please also consider that Samuels was an important partner to Gayle in the other matches. Unfortunately today was an offf-day for him.
Overall the team played piss poor: the big guns in the middle did not fire and the death bowling was abysmal.

Find it confusing that on the one hand the mere exercise of free speech by Gayle – who is a SENIOR player as a former captain – is considering pissing in tent (dissent) and on the other internal dissent is acceptable.

Gayle voiced an opinion which was out of place. Not grounds to dismiss the man unless after a chat he continues to show the same disrespect.
He still has something to offer the team and it would be ridiculous to repeat the same stupid process here again as when Haynes was eased out of the team prematurely and so too when Viv and Richie were unable to coexist.

It is another matter altogether …..AFTER the team decision has been made, to come PUBLICLY (or even within the team or privately) with dissenting and disparaging comments…..

Key wickets were those of Simmons and Samuels. Either one of them needed to do what the SA opener did. Score a century.
The team sheet had the batting to rotate around a big scorer.

Selector Lloyd was right about at least one thing: This las Russell could develop into a really good cricketer.
He batted today absolutely sensible and well today.
We will take victories however they come and this one showed a complete team job down to the last wicket.

There is nothing ‘lassy’ about the man.
A win is win and we will take it but we have a long way to go. Let us hope the win is the catalyst to create momentum for the world cup coming up.
David, I am the eternal optimist so yea I will see this as a positive.
The reality (LOL) though is that we struggled against the SA ‘intermediate team’. Obviously still a good side but Steyn and the Tahir would have made a whole lotta difference.
We gotta win the last one too to keep momentum going.
Really impressed though with Russell’s batting. He looked like a batsman who could pace an innings and wait for the bad or even not so bad ball, rather than a happy go-luck swiper as he has in the past.
If he can carry that to WC and tighten up his bowling that all rounder position becomes the real deal.
With Narine at his best and Darren Bravo ready to light up the world like Koli & Smith (Aus) who are basically his age contemporaries are doing, we could spring some real upsets.

Well, compared to all the others in this current group he is in our top 3 or 4 in terms of average…so he’s the man.
And I say that with some seriousness really. He needs to elevate his game. I hope he has cleared his head and overcome whatever issues caused him to drop-out of the tour and is now ready to shine and dazzle.
I am sure you followed the breakout efforts of that New Zealand player Williamson. Smith the Aussie is simply dominating bowling in recent times and Kohli is also on fire.
They are the youthful standard bearers for Bravo to match. If management and his coaches can get him to accept that sense of purpose he can be a star like them.
He has the temperament and tools and just needs now to use them like the master craftsman he can be.
We will see. As Jesse Jackson loved to say: Keep Hope alive….keep hope alive.

Former West Indies Players Association President, Dinanath Ramnarine has indicated that Sunil Narine will be out of the West Indies squad for the 2015 World Cup. Ramnarine indicates that it is due to Narine’s continuous work on his bowling action which kept him out of recent West Indies tours.
Narine returned to action in the NAGICO Super50 tournament which ended with the mystery spinner bowling his Red Force team to the Championship with a haul of 6 wickets for 9 runs.

Assuming Ramnarine is right, one can only presume that the WI gurus were watching him closely in these recent games and saw something to raise their concerns that there are still problems re his action.

Don’t have much time for Mac Fingall so was pleasantly surprised at his thought provoking article on Sunday in which he called on politicians stay out of cricket administration and sports in general. Most of what he said I agreed with against the background of the spectacle of loud mouth Ralph Gonzalves yelling that Cameron must go. Who is Gonzalves to tell Cameron to go he didn’t elect him. Who invited Gonzlaves anyway and why doesn’t he mind his own business To borrow a quote PM Stuart the irrational call by Gonzalves “is a perverse monstrosity of common sense.”
Cameron needs to stay put and tell Gonzales to carry his ra*#**#* you know what. Nigerian politicians got involved in their football administration and selection sometime ago before you could say Jack Warner that country was banned from football. The politicians back peddled faster than the Nigerian Army running from Boko Haram. FIFA rules are strictly against politicians getting into running the sport. The same should hold true for cricket.
West Indies cricket is a hot mess the WICB must share some of the blame not all. The non productive prima donnas who make up the WI team and earn more money on one tour than most PM’s make for an entire year must shoulder blame and lots of it too. Aborting that Indian tour should have brought an immediate life ban on the ring leaders like Bravo, Pollard and Sammy. Show me a business that an employee can sabotage racking up 42 million in losses and that employee continues to work in a business as usual manner. It is preposterous.
Who pays the $42 million? For most persons not willing to perverse common sense the players who brought the debt and disrepute to the business of cricket should be made to pay either by banishment or being sued to repay from their money and property. Instead you have people walking about supporting this outrageous indiscipline that could bankrupt WI cricket and lose the Caribbean billions of foreign exchange $ from sports tourism earnings. Fingall is right Gonzalves should run bout behind politics and stay to hell out of cricket.

You make a good point above, but unless you are a secret WICB executive or one of their acolytes (and even if you are) clarify this for me.
How can a CEO wrangle with his employees and not recognize the ramifications of pushing the negotiations to a strike which results in ’42 million in losses’ continue to lead the business? Don’t you think that is preposterous, too.
If you are firmly behind your remarks that you are “not willing to perverse common sense” how can any President and CEO remain in their positions.
When you are leading an organization the stakeholders expect you to act with their best fiduciary interest as the utmost responsibility. You are expected to act wisely at all times and not to be inflexible and being ‘right’ .
A $42 million suits says you are very wrong.
Bravo and his team were wrong but the President and CEO are the smart business gurus who should have thought through the actions carefully.
I compare in to parents (WICB) in the room when kids throw a tantrum after lighting a match.

In what has become a norm over the past few weeks for Trinidad & Tobago cricketers, another major announcement was made via former West Indies Players Association President, Dinanath Rmanarine’s twitter account. On Friday the announcement was for Dwayne Bravo’s retirement from Test Cricket.
David, not sure of the reason you shifted the old comments/new comments tag to top of page but it is rather awkward frankly.
Often when you click a thread it may not go immediately to the last section or if you want to review previous comments you then need to go back to the top to move on after reading the post on the page.
Reverting those tags to bottom of page would make things much more practical.
Or of course you can place top and bottom too. But if one only then bottom of page.
