  4. Patrick still in contention. He lost ground by going to the USA to ride at the Breeders cup weekend.

  24. So maybe someone should introduce this to the Secondary schools in Barbados. It could be a joint effort with mentors fron SJPP and UWI.

  25. West Indies’ ODI squad doesn’t feature Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Darren Sammy, all of whom are playing the Big Bash in Australia.

Sunil Narine returns to international cricket next month after being named in the 15-man World Cup squad which includes five allrounders, seven specialist batsmen, four fast bowlers and two spinners.

Jason Holder, named captain for the South Africa ODI series, retains the position and as reported on Thursday, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard have been left out by the Clive Lloyd-led selection panel.

Also making a comeback is Darren Bravo, who had opted out of the Test series for personal reasons and wasn’t part of the ODIs are scheduled to follow. Fast bowler Kemar Roach, who suffered an ankle injury in the Centurion Test and had to return home, finds a place in the 15 as well.

    West Indies squad

Jason Holder (captain), Marlon Samuels, Sulieman Benn, Darren Bravo, Jonathan Carter, Sheldon Cottrell, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Jerome Taylor

In: Darren Bravo, Sunil Narine, Kemar Roach

Out: Carlos Brathwaite, Narsingh Deonarine, Leon Johnson

"I believe we have selected a very good team which will do West Indies proud at the World Cup," Lloyd said via a WICB media release. "We have a good mixture of some good seasoned players and some good youngsters who will fly the West Indies flag in Australia and New Zealand.

"If they play to their potential I am quite sure we will do very well. I have really high hopes in this team – I believe they can do something special. We have the talent and if we can play to our potential we have a very good chance of lifting that trophy."

But it is Narine’s return which will come as the greatest boost for West Indies. He has been a proven match-winner, and was ranked No. 2 on the ODI and T20 rankings when his action was reported as suspect in successive matches during the Champions League Twenty20 last September. Consequently, Narine missed out on playing in the final for Kolkata Knight Riders, who lost to Chennai Super Kings.

  27. @Hants

    Are you watching?

  28. @David,Awesome hitting by Gayle and Samuels and we still almost lost. A win is still a win so congrats are in order Match and series.

  29. The Big Bash does not have anything on the CPL.

  30. NICE ONE GP.

HOPE YOU ARE ENJOYING THE CRICKET.

  31. David the CPL needs to find ways to fill the stands at every venue and keep the “entertainment” value high.

CPL T20 is is not just cricket but an enhanced entertainment package.

  32. @Hants

Yes this is the advantage the Big Bash has, a team that winning. This will always bring out the spectators.

  33. yes Hants. enjoyed both days and the Indian/Aussie test series

I agree with you that the standard of the Big Bash does not seem that high

the sponsorship by KFC in both Australia & South Africa seems to be very good

  34. Even though we dropped wickets the guys were hitting. To get that kind of score will always be pressure. Give them a pass on this one.

  35. Lloyd obviously wants to send a message that it is not business as usual. How can you plan around Pollard and Bravo always jetting off somewhere?

  36. There is nothing worse in a team than indiscipline…
Gayle should be reserved for the IPL too…

  37. @Bush Tea

He is at the end of his career and he has declined the retainer contract offered by the WICB. Lloyd will probably tolerate him around the team for the next year or two in the shorter form.

  38. Gayle should be reserved for the IPL too…

    AGREE 100% RUSSELL ALSO

  39. I hope Gayle plays in Canada.

  40. He is at the end of his career and he has declined the retainer contract offered by the WICB. Lloyd will probably tolerate him around the team for the next year or two in the shorter form.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++
This will be the worse possible decision for future team building; for the current captain; for results; and for image.
Gayle’s best contribution now to WI cricket would be for his ass to be fired for insubordination and dumped unceremoniously IMMEDIATELY. This would hopefully send the message that WI is serious about being a professional team…..but that is presuming that we were….

In which other serious organization ANYWHERE, or in which SPORT, would a player come out and openly criticize team selection as Gayle has…..
….and continue sabotaging the team from the inside?

Gayle should be on the OUTSIDE of the tent pissing in…… not INside…..

    steupsss

every shiite around here seems to be up-sided-down

  41. I AGREE WITH YOU BUSHTEA
THE SHIT HE TALKED TODAY WAS RIDICULOUS AND DISRESPECTFUL
SOBERS KANHAI HAYNES GREENIDGE ETC DID NOT TALK SHIT WHEN THEY WERE DROPPED——–AND THESE GUYS ACTUALLY MADE A SERIOUS CONTRIBUTION TO WEST INDIES CRICKET
    RUSSELL WANT DROPPING TOO

  42. If they are serious a NEW dispensation will have to be ushered in on a phased basis.

  43. But GP, the joke is that they did not even drop HIM, as was the case with Haynes etc…… he was talking about others in the team selection….
How the hell could could you have a cohesive team when a supposedly senior player is openly saying that the team is flawed? …wuh we lost before we even start…

  44. The ring leaders of the Indian aborted tour should be ousted from the team. Bravo, Pollard, Sammy should not be selected. They should be told to their faces that causing the business that is WI cricket US$42 million in liability cannot go unpunished. Not only that they have brought unprecedented embarrassment and disrepute to the game . The WICB though not blameless must get a grip on discipline if not we will continue to blow hot and cold. Not only that players would seek to be in the team solely for easy money. Winning would not be the uppermost goal. Gayle with his talent is a disruptive and destructive force. Its not easy to deal with him but prima donnas are dropped everyday by real professional teams in the EPL, NBA, La Liga etc . The WI have to go in that direction.

  45. @ Bush Tea January 11, 2015 at 10:48 PM …How the hell could could you have a cohesive team when a supposedly senior player is openly saying that the team is flawed? …wuh we lost before we even start…—————

Valid point. But how indeed can you have a cohesive team if the team dynamics and ethos as set out from on top are flawed.

How can he be better when his President – who is a trained, educated business executive and negotiator – displayed the same level of verbal ineptitude when this whole problem started.

He has set the most recent tone of poor team dynamics. Why blame Gayle only.

Bravo played his supposed power poker-hand and it has shown to be a losing hand. He certainly should have lost his captaincy but his place too, absolutely not.

In the absence of the facts of what has transpired since (no idea what else is in this mortar) this seems to be a power grab and clear victimization.

We keep on talking about the days of Kanhai, Haynes etc and as usual ‘the good ole days’ is seen through VERY filtered lenses.

Those guys were ‘forced’ into not talking PUBLICLY; it’s not that they didn’t talk. Often, the anger over team selection back then was rabid among commentators. Massa (as you guys love to say) ran things then in a way that allowed the lack of public disclosure and no dissent from players.

This millennial, internet generation of wealthy T20 crickets are not forced to stay silent. They feel empowered and their large bank accounts make them as free speaking as the lack thereof made their older counterparts less so.

And oh btw as I remember it Haynes not only talked but sued the WICBC when he was dropped (return late from SA issue).

Really guys, if this internet thing (with you BU scribes too) was around then wouldn’t everyone have made that a really, really BIG public talk shop.

Gayle spoke out of place surely but his comments certainly were absolutely not out of place.

  46. Chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd has revealed that it was time to try something else instead of recycling players. What BU finds interesting is that he said they discussed the matter with the captain for a couple of days. BU agrees the time has long gone for changes to take place, we wait for similar to happen at the Board level.

Lloyd will be on the VOB show at 6:15 this evening.

  47. @ DeeWord
Boss, you need to meet with Robert Ross…the two of wunna have this way of writing a lot …and not saying a shiite… Bushie feels that wunna would make a good team.

Your whole discourse is that Gayle was wrong…but the president was wrong too…
Now where did Bushie say that the President should not be dumped?

ALL BUSHIE SAID WAS THAT GAYLE WAS WRONG….and you agree.

Did Bushie not say that if Gayle wanted to piss in the WI tent he should do it from OUTSIDE? …..like Haynes did? BUT NOT BE ALLOWED TO PISS INSIDE the tent?

And nobody is talking about ‘public talk’ …the public can talk what ever shiite we like, the issue is TEAM COHESIVENESS. Wuh in which organization do we not find internal dissent? …shiite man, it is even healthy…
BUT ONCE A TEAM DECISION IS MADE …IT IS A TEAM DECISION….

    Wait ….you married?!?!

Finally…. if a low level player is allowed to do this shiite how would we EVER get to the point where presidents can be disciplined for doing the same?
It is probably the damn president that is protecting Gayle and allowing him to get away with such indiscipline…..WHICH IS WHY WE NEED TO START BY DUMPING GAYLE’S ASS….then the president.
