He is a Vincentian of Portuguese ancestry who is a lifetime want to be revolutionary, that regrets never owning his own revolution. He was by his own confession a nasty child and when he went to the Kingstown Grammar School it was there that it was realised he was a budding communist. Ralph first became interested in Karl Marx as a very young man; some say he had already slipped into the Marxist system when he was still at the boy’s Grammar school in Kingstown, Saint Vincent.

He was well established in the brotherhood and solidarity of Marxism by the time he first met Dr. Walter Rodney at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. As a student their he assisted the much revered Guyanese, Cuban implanted ultra glorious revolutionary Walter Rodney in Jamaica. Rodney was only a few years older than Ralph, he was UWI lecturer, an African Historian holding a Ph.D. in the same, and was seeking to bring a revolutionary experiment to Jamaica. Gonsalves was the university student union leader, and able to give his Marxist strength and knowledge to the other students. Rodney’s Jamaican revolutionary experiment didn’t succeed due to intervention by the Jamaican government. But Gonsalves heroically fought unsuccessfully in riotous assembly to bring him back into the country despite Rodney being banned. Ralph Gonsalves through this very matter had established himself at a young age as a revolutionary hero of the Marxist-Leninist movement.

Gonsalves enraged the Barbadians where he was then dwelling so much because he wrote such things that were true communist thoughts and ideas in the Barbados media. The Bajan Government made him ‘persona non gratis’, and he had to leave the island. Those socialist and Marxist scum Bajans he left behind described him as a hero.

Ralph Gonsalves had become a great supporter of the Cuban revolution. A great and meaningful supporter of the Castro brothers and the Cuban communist party. He believed that good could eventually come to the hemisphere as the Cubans sought to take over the whole of the Americas and Caribbean nations. He believed he was well placed to help them do that, and he never stopped trying. This fight he fought for the Cubans brought him the ultimate award and recognition by the Cubans in May 2022, when they confirmed upon him their highest award for his devotion to Cuban regional infiltration and the furtherance of communism.

In December 1979 Comrade Ralph, as he was now called, a label that he loved because it showed respect for his growing superiority over other politically minded young people in the Caribbean. That superiority was recognized by the Cuban and Russians when he assisted in Grenada revolution. Ralph Gonsalves was chosen by Maurice Bishop to advise him on the political concept and procedures of Marxist-Leninism. Ralph Gonsalves was a qualified political scientist able to advise Bishop on the procedures of a successful revolution. From the earliest days of Grenada’s revolution, Gonsalves generally advised Bishop. Writing Bishops speech’s, and going with Maurice to meetings and rallies, always sitting next to him. Ralph had become a true hero of the Grenadian revolution, recommended by the Russians who said he was “a man who could be trusted.” Gonsalves viewed it as glory and loved it.

Eventually, Ralph Gonsalves had to get back to building his own revolution in his own country, a dream he had since his teenage years. Unfortunately, without Ralph, Maurice Bishop got to arguing with his Grenadian revolutionary partners, and they ended up murdering him. This greatly affected Ralph, and he now witnessed the Empire [USA] destroying the revolution by invading Grenada. That hate for the US fermented in his communist addled brain for many years, and almost certainly still exists today. But like most political cowards he had plenty of mouth and bravado, but the thought of giving his life for a revolution just did not appeal to him.

On the 26 May 2022, Ralph Gonsalves, was awarded the order of Jose Marti by the Government of the Republic of Cuba. President Diaz-Canel conferred the order on Ralph E Gonsalves, which is Cuba’s highest award named after Cuba’s National Hero, who became a symbol of Cuba’s strength as a communist state.

Gonsalves thanked the Cuban government on behalf of the Vincentian people and the entire Caribbean, who he said, feel a deep love for José Martí, Fidel Castro Ruz and the Cuban Revolution. Of course, hardly a single Vincentian even knew who José Martí was, let alone have a deep love for him

Speaking at the ceremony Gonsalves said his personality was forged in decades of activism in the anti-imperialist [Anti American] ideas and ideals of Martí. In addition, he described the delivery of the order as an honour and dedicated it to the youth of Saint Vincent and the Caribbean. But the Vincentian youth knew nothing about José Martí, this was yet again Gonsalves saying what the Cubans wanted to hear.

The award ceremony coincided with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. But during Gonsalves many terms as SVGs PM they had obviously become controllers of SVGs destiny. The peasantisation and Cubanisation was almost complete, or so they thought.

On November 6 2022, The Bolivarian University of Venezuela (UBV) conferred an honorary doctorate on Ralph E Gonsalves. The ‘Doctorate Honoris Causa’.

According to the Venezuelan University, Gonsalves was granted the honorary degree for his “important contribution against the aggression’s of the imperial power groups [The USA and the UK], and his unrestricted defense of counter-hegemonic projects, as well as his fraternity with the Latin American peoples,” the state-owned Agency clearly stated all these reasons.

The Counter-hegemony, refers to the processes and strategies employed by marginalized or oppressed groups to challenge and subvert the dominant ideologies and power structures that perpetuate their subordination. This is communist talk for describing how Gonsalves was gradually converting the Vincentian people away from the British Empire to peasantisation and Cubanisation through a gradual process instead of by a direct revolution.

Obviously Ralph Gonsalves had led the Venezuelans to believe that SVG was a nation suppressed by America, and ultimately by the British Crown. This was seditious talk and behaviour, Gonsalves should have been pushed out of power at that very moment. I am not sure if sedition is still on SVGs statutes. Gonsalves government did try and use it themselves against Kenson King in 2022.

Gonsalves holds a PhD in government, awarded by the University of Manchester (England), and a Master of Science degree in government and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, both from the University of the West Indies. In other words Gonsalves is a Political Scientist. He is an expert in the manipulation and control of government and people.

Gonsalves decided sooner than risk his own life during a real revolution, he would use the political scientific method of Gradualism. During several formative years, he convinced the Vincentian public that the sun shone out of his backside. The people became obsessed with him because he was blessed with charisma and charm. He could put his arm around someone’s shoulder and hug them up and convince them he was sent directly by God. He was able in this way to brainwash people and have them follow and worship him. Those same people were gradually reduced to peasants through policies and inflation. They were happy to have little or nothing and live in wooden shacks with tin roofs. As the years went by, people were happy with nothing because they had never had anything. The gradual communist revolution in SVG was almost successful; Gonsalves had held power for twenty-five years. Crime was at its worst. Low incomes and no incomes breed crime, Gonsalves’ government told us that was untrue, but it was true. People disappeared over the years, and assassinations and attempted assassinations were talked about in bars. People left the island, especially women who were sick of the rape and violence culture the peasantised classes had adopted. Many left the island in fear for their lives. Businesspeople who supported political opposition parties and had their lives and businesses destroyed became active on social media. SVG had become a hellhole, and some even began describing it rather crudely on social media as a shit hole.

Then at the 2025 elections, all was exposed, all the poor people were informed of how Ralph Gonsalves’ family had become rich over the last twenty-five years, whilst they had all got poorer. Then it was exposed that the Gonsalves family members bought three properties in Trinidad for more than four million dollars. That just may have been the beginning of the end for Ralph Gonsalves. It seemed to extinguish that ray of sunshine Gonsalves emitted, and then when he went on TV and begged the followers to vote for him, reverse psychology kicked in, and they voted for the opposition party. Enough was enough, and he had exposed his weakness; he showed them he was not God sent, but was simply a man they could escape from. Gonsalves had dug his own pit and buried himself in it.

So, for those affected by him and his policies, I have heard it said, goodbye to bad rubbish.

I wish the National Democratic Party [NDP] every success for the future. Well done, the people are expecting a lot from you. But with hard work and devotion, you will prove the electorate right in their choice.

  1. Those same people were gradually reduced to peasants through policies and inflation

    XXXXXXXXX

    THEIR OWN IGNORANCE NOTHING ELSE.

    GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT.

  2. To be honest, William sounds to be just as hateful and vindictive as he paints Gonsalves to be…
    How is that helpful…?
What is needed is love, forgiveness, patience and selflessness…
Not to ‘OUT-HATE’ perceived evil, …but to overcome it with RIGHTNESS and genuine love.

    What a world!

  3. WHILE WE COGITATE & GESTICULATE OVER WHO #RalphieReallyIs – THE CYCLICAL NATURE OF CURRENT HISTORICAL EVENTS PROTRAY AN ARSE-BACKWARD WORLD THAT IS EXACTLY SEEN IN #Soaps LIKE – #AsTheWorldTurns IN THE MUNDANE CIRCUS OF #DayzOfOurLives

According to #TheJohnsHopkinsCenter4HealthSecurity, in partnership with the #WorldEconomicForum (WEF) & #BillAndMelindaGatesFoundation hosted “EVENT 201, a high-level #PlanDEMIC* exercise on October 18, 2019, in New York. The exercise illustrated areas where public/private partnerships will be necessary during the response to a severe pandemic in order to diminish large-scale economic & societal consequences!!!

“EVENT 201” was a 3.5-hour “PLANDEMIC” tabletop exercise that “SIMULATED” a series of dramatic, “SCENARIO”-based facilitated discussions, confronting difficult, TRUE-2-LIFE# dilemmas associated with response to a “HYPOTHETICAL”, but scientifically plausible, PLANDEMIC!!!

  4. Not sure that the communist ideology/doctrine is an issue to worry about in the English Caribbean. To accuse Mottley of such thinking is a stretch.

  5. I read with much interest this historical blog. As a Canadian, I couldn’t agree more with the fags stated here

  6. Let me correct my statement. It should’ve read with the facts stated here.

  7. Cultural Warriors Avatar
    Cultural Warriors

There were many a revolutionary cultural warrior fighting for equal rights truth and rights human rights from the 60s and 70s era up to Black Lives Matter today, such as Martin, Malcolm, John, Nelson, Huey, Bobby, Angela and hundreds of thousands more men, women and children in the community. The Babylon System of Capitalism Ism and Schism exploitation and divisive white supremacy racism has failed, there are many more people that hate Trump than love him around the world, and the cells in the PotUS body are showing their sickness and dysfunction manifesting in his deteriorating bad health due to his bad negative energy and deluded backward thoughts.

  8. Who cares? Really or not.

  9. @ David

    Forgot to tell you that:

“Opposition Leader Allen Chastanet formally tendered his resignation as political leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) after the party’s crushing defeat in the St. Lucia 2025 General Election.”

Additionally, I’ve been hearing Chastanet was in St. Vincent supporting Friday.

  10. When safety falls apart for ruling parties

LOOK HOW the mighty have fallen!

The results in St Vincent and the Grenadines show that no matter how safe a political stance can or has been, there will come a time when safety falls apart. We also now see that in Trinidad and Tobago.

In St Vincent and the Grenadines, although it was alleged that help for the reigning party may have been available, it stumbled and eventually fell. Maybe other people in other countries were happy at the outcome.

The fall of Ralph Gonsalves’ Unity Labour Party is even more humbling now that the Caribbean needs strong voices to face trying situations that can upset its main industry – tourism. But what can be the predicted outcome for Barbados? Is the ruling party impregnable? Here we have a situation where people may be inclined to say that Government is doing many things. But the Government needs to do more than taxing its way to ensure survival.

It must be aware of the struggle for survival among the poorest in the community.

The big question now facing us is the heaviness of the taxation and the decision to do away with a state-owned bus service.

Here we are dealing with the poorest among us. We have to cater to the elderly, school children, hotel and services workers and those who do not live on a profitable minibus route but have to get to work.

    Must declare hand

There are people who do not accept the minibus culture who still need the bus service. Government is the present owner of the transportation system that caters to the needy. The needy constitutes a large portion of voters. It is all well and good to depend on loyalty when it comes to voting, but having to go to work and earn a living will come first when voting is in question.

The situation is beginning to assume great proportions now that Barbados is due for a General Election in a short time. This means that Government must declare its hand [on the future of public transportation] in short order. An alert Opposition should be marshalling its forces and coming up with suggestions to woo the public with pressure on the Government to declare its hand.

So far, this hand has been a dismal failure, with the deficit of operations increasing daily in a failing environment. Contributing to the situation is the excess number of vehicles derelict by the road. It means that a solution is urgent. It also means that others than those immediately affected are anxious for action as one problem interlocks with the other.

    Turn the tide

So far, it seems that the Opposition is more concerned with being the Opposition than putting forward its ideas on a solution, while trying to get its house in order. But a pressing situation can turn the tide against a Government when the public is disenchanted with its performance and where there is weakening when stalwarts are resigning from the ruling party and shuffling is in the works. Voting may be affected.

Right now, Government needs to put forward a solution to the bus service and it is their responsibility. So far, the Transport Board has been operating at a loss even with the tax support of the country.

The situation now means that Government needs to say what solution is in the works – whether it will continue with more subsidies and taxes to the general public or throw the running of the bus service to the wolves and sharks of the private sector and chance a public reaction, while the Opposition may not be in a settled position with candidates.

But there is still a public to have a say in whatever the Government chooses to do and a public whose pocket will be affected.

Of course, the Government could throw the bus service to the wolves and let people fend for themselves. It may say that it can only continue with a losing situation or even an increase in losses with the general public bearing the cost.

Will that decision ensure a re-election, all things being equal?

As a matter of fact, the bus service situation cannot be considered in isolation to other problems, all of which have tax increase implications. Meanwhile, Government is keeping the situation on the boil with the many festive occasions, most of which are free. Can we be proud at this time of our country that has held it head high in such a competitive environment? This challenge is forwarded by the Most Honourable Wild Coot, the newest member of the fast growing rewards club.

  11. William Harriss has got beef with Gonalves, but in context he was forcibly driven out of SVG by him over a research book he was writing about Gonsalves family ancestors alleged links to slave trade (see 2023 BU post below)
    https://barbadosunderground.net/2023/12/15/atrocity-svg-again/

Perhaps it is a good / safe time now for him with the new regime to lodge a formal complaint in Parliament and/or Court and Media to call for an inquiry in this matter about the injustices he went through
