Time for Barbados Government to Issue Mandatory Vaccination Directive

If the blogmaster were Prime Minister of Barbados the following edict would be issued as at 6PM today:

  1. Effective 15 October 2021 all persons entering banks and supermarkets will be required to show proof of being vaccinated for COVID 19 as well as adhering to existing COVID 19 protocols.
  2. Effective 1 November 2021 all medical personnel must be vaccinated as well as to adhere to existing COVID 19 protocols.

The blogmaster is aware the legislative framework will have to be tweaked to support. To manage a public health crisis prioritizing an amendment to existing legislation should command unanimous support in parliament.

It is obvious to all Barbadians community spread of the coronavirus is out of control in Barbados, confirmed by key medical personnel on the frontline. The virus is exerting extreme pressure on healthcare services in Barbados. The mouthings of a seldom seen or heard Minister of Labour should be punished in the context of the ongoing public health crisis on a trajectory to get worse. This is no time for rh political games.

It is times like now real leaders must stand-up for the good of country..

    US advisory lists Barbados at Level 4

    THE UNITED STATES government yesterday issued the highest level Travel Advisory for Barbados.
    A Travel Advisory Level 4 advises residents against travel, this time as a result of the COVID-19 virus.
    “The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for Barbados due to COVID-19, indicating a very high level of COVID-19 in the country,” the notice said.
    “Your risk of contracting COVID-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorised vaccine. Before planning any international travel, please review the CDC’s specific recommendations for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers.     COVID cases started rising in mid December.

    This year the same sort of thing is unfolding.

    So what do we do?

    One alternative is to go through another month possibly two of rising cases then watch them fall as the dry season sets in for the process to be repeated again next year if the wet season is wet enough.

    The other alternative is to track down the source of the public water supply that is compromised and shut it off now when demand for water is low and figure out what has to be done to ensure it won’t happen again.

    If the clear correlation between rainfall and COVID cases is really the cause, we won’t get a recurrence next year if it is fixed and COVID will be eradicated.

    The problem left will be preventing the virus coming in from the outside and spreading by face to face contact which I would suggest is a minor cause of spread when compared with waterborne spread.

    A team of researchers, including water quality, epidemiology, remote sensing and modelling experts, led by Dr Jamie Shutler at the University of Exeter, have developed a fast and simple way to assess the potential risk of water-borne transmission of the COVID-19 virus, posed by sewage spills into open and closed freshwater networks.

    The new study, published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology — Water, identifies the relative risk of viral transmission by sewerage spills, across 39 different counties.

    The study used information on the environment, a population’s infection rate, and water usage to calculate the potential potency of viral loads in the event of a sewerage spill.

    The research team believe the new study could provide fresh impetus in identifying new ways in which to prevent the spread of the virus amongst communities and the environment.

    Dr Jamie Shutler, lead author of the study and at the University of Exeter’s Penryn Campus in Cornwall said: “it’s important to identify and break all viable transmission routes if we want to stop any future outbreaks.”

    Airborne water droplets have previously been highlighted as the main route for transmission of the virus which causes COVID-19, but we know that other forms of transmission are likely to exist.

    Previous studies have shown that COVID-19 viral pathogens can be found in untreated wastewater, in concentrations consistent with population infection rates. While studies are still relatively early in relation to COVID-19, other human coronaviruses are documented to survive in wastewater, with colder water temperature likely to increase viral survival.

    Using this knowledge and existing methods, the research team identified how the transmission risk from water contaminated with sewage reduces over time.

    This issue is likely to be especially problematic in parts of the world with a large proportion of temporary settlements, such as shanty towns, favellas or refugee camps, which are less likely to have safe sanitisation systems. Or any densely populated region that has high infection rates that also suffers from a sewage spill.

    Modifying established pollution analysis methods, the team were able to estimate the viral concentration in rivers after a sewage spill. This meant they could calculate the relative transmission risk posed to humans by contaminated waterways for 39 countries.

    These methods, the team argue, provides a fast way to assess the transmission risk associated to sewage spills through the use of easily available population, infection rate and environmental data, allowing evidence based guidance following a spill.

    Dr Shutler added: “we hope that water companies or NGOs will use our simple spreadsheet calculator, that is freely available, to estimate the transmission risk after a spill. They can then use this information to advise the public.”

    This research was partially funded by the European Union project Aquasense, which is focussing on novel methods to study and monitor water quality.

    The research resulted from a collaboration between the University of Exeter in Cornwall, the University of Glasgow, the Łukasiewicz-Institute of Electron Technology in Poland, and the University of Agriculture in Kraków, Poland.

    Once the virus is in the input to the water treatment, chances are there will be circumstances where it can get through to the output.

    No production process is without its flaws.

    I’ve spent years in production processes and instinctively know from that experience.

    If it does get through and is delivered to households there is a chance it can be taken up by the body in all the ways science says it enters the body.

    Through the eyes during a facewash, through the mouth during a mouth wash or through the nose in the form of droplets.

    If that can happen then the amount of viral load the body can face MAY be far higher than if it was facing airborne infection.

    The result MAY make one conclude the Delta Variant is very contagious, not saying it isn’t.

    Or, it could so swamp the defenses from vaccination that breakthrough infection occurs.

    Perhaps that is why COVID now affects all age groups because all age groups face higher viral loads through the water they ingest.

    Vaccination rate in Antigua Barbuda is 54%, 7% higher than in Barbados.

    They have 85 deaths compared with us, 81.

    They also have 1/3 the number of cases that we have but they are still rising.

    Why is that?

    I’ll explain when I get back and you will see why we are in a good place, regardless of the designation by America!!!!

    We just have to take one simple step!!

    So if you tell me that a vaccination is supposed to stop the spread of COVID and I observe that it doesn’t, I can advance the scientific hypotheses that the vaccination is not 100% effective and move to measuring how effective it is and in so doing prove that the vaccination is not 100% effective..

    If I see heavy rainfall and shortly thereafter the number of cases shoots up, I can advance the hypotheses that the virus is in the water and move on to prove it.

    The first step is proving it can get into the water supply which is done.

    So, the hypothesis is on the way to be proven.

    We know that masks, social distancing and sanitization have not stopped the spread so we can develop the hypothesis that they do not work and move on to proving how effective they are.

    BUT IF THE VIRUS IS IN THE WATER, IT CAN BE ERADICATED.

    MASKS AND VACCINATIONS CAN’T!!

    I think it’s too late already to save the first part of the winter season, that is the December to January period. This government should of acted 2 weeks ago. Word from the hoteliers is that cancellations are coming in fast. The reasons being given is the high percentage of covid infections percentage wise, coupled to the fact that travellers worry that the island will be moved to red after they arrive. This would involve major additional expenses for them to then reenter the UK.

    Not looking good at all for we Fx inflow in Dec and Jan.

    The U.S. Embassy in Barbados is set to pause routine nonimmigrant visa services effective Tuesday, October 12 due to COVID-19 local conditions. While the Embassy continues to provide emergency and mission-critical nonimmigrant visa services, these appointments are extremely limited. Routine visa services will resume as soon as possible but the Embassy is unable to provide a specific date at this time.

    If the U.S. Embassy is unable to honour an appointment, applicants will receive an email providing instructions on how to reschedule their appointment for a later date.

    If a Machine Readable Visa (MRV) fee was paid, it will remain valid until September 30, 2022. MRV fees are non-transferable. The U.S. Embassy cannot accept MRV fees from outside our consular district.

    The Embassy continues to process Interview Waiver (IW) and Renewal Interview Waiver (RIW) cases. The eligibility of this program was recently expanded, and applicants MAY now qualify to renew their visa by mail.
