It is also a different version of how the story got out than what our own Attorney-General said last Thursday after the verdict was handed down. He said: “It is significant that the conviction came about because individuals who had knowledge of the events were prepared to speak out and to give evidence about wrongdoing.” The AG added: “This is something that is required at all levels in Barbados’ society whether dealing with the scourge of corruption or the scourge of gun violence.

Donville Inniss Case Points to Endemic Corruption in Barbados

The traditional media is off and running with the big headlines about the sentence federal District Court Judge Kiyo Matsumoto is scheduled to deliver today in New York in the Donville Inniss matter. It is the story traditional media will have a healthy appetite for because of flagging circulation.

The concern of the blogmaster confirmed in the deliberations during the Donville Inniss trial is the strong inference there is pervasive corrupt behaviour in the way business is conducted by some PUBLIC and PRIVATE officials in Barbados. Successive governments over the years have paid lip service to unearthing and punishing corruption even in the face of obvious indications of wrong doing. The Mia Mottley government is better placed than her predecessors given the unprecedented mandate handed to her government to do something about it. It is no secret however to those in the know that Donville and Mia are bosom buddies.

The following is a blog repost from January 20, 2020 which captures key concerns by the blogmaster, the late journalist Patrick Hoyos and the BU family.

Donville Inniss Case Points to Endemic Corruption in Barbados

The blogmaster found the Patrick Hoyos article to be – without prolix – a good summary of the Donville Inniss matter. Especially as it pertains to the inference other payments were made to Donville Inniss and that bribery by elected officials was commonplace in Barbados. Although we have the Attorney General et al saying that local laws would not have permitted prosecution of Inniss this position was challenged during the Inniss trial.

The blogmaster’s wish is that we have a dispassionate debate in Barbados and a call to action by our officials regarding the honest prosecution of public officials. It is ironic former Speaker of the House MICHAEL CARRINGTON and Adriel Brathwaite, former Attorney General showed support for Inniss by attending the trial in New York. CARRINGTON’s legacy will be that a High Court judge had to issue a court order for him to release monies due his client 70+ John Griffiths, the blogmaster will remember Brathwiate for promising to report to parliament the status of Mia Mottley’s qualification (LEC) to practice before the Courts of Barbados. He never did.

The time has come to arrest the moral and ethical rot- add criminal. We have started to experience the negative fallout of pushing our heads in the sand.

Time for the authorities to do a job.

Time for the Prime Minister, Attorney General and stakeholders to lead the charge.

Importantly, time for John Citizens to hold officials accountable.

    Wura hush your mouth and stop with the lies and conflation.. Firstly, there was no maid or janitor. I said the other blk person was the in-house graphic designer. Secondly, to assume that if there were indeed a maid or janitor he/she would be black says a lot about what you really think of your people or you’re simply ignorant. Context Abigail, context! Thirdly, you clearly do not understand the concept of a boutique firm. Fourthly, I am not a project manager. Fifthly, I don’t know where you got the story of a billion dollar project and being the only black person in a company from. Learn to read to understand rather than to respond. I do know this is hard for a robot with a programmed vocabulary–tief, black, slave, fowl, tief, black, slave, fowl–and I do empathise. Sixthly, tell BU of the federal guidelines for diversity, if they are mandatory for private firms, their application and commencement date. Seventhly, I never said I was the only black person in any company, I said one of two. Finally, as usual, you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about–pure tales of the expected in the twilight zone. Your climb down from.posting the “St.Lucy” evidence is noticeable.🤣

    Not really, Bajans should be pleased that the truth has emerged and Inniss’ wrong doings have been exposed.

    The indictment on all off Barbados is that other similar cases have not been exposed and people are keeping quiet about crimes until after the truths are already uncovered and made public.

    i did’nt claim you made any claim about USA. USA is the standard bearer of where people want Barbados to be. whenever we get caught up with something that the usa is ahead of us in then there will somthing else else that we need to catch up with again. In other words barbados will never be heaven when compared to places like the USA. if you compare it with a place like Haiti then you meay think it is the closest think to heaven.

    The only place heavenly in America is the National Parks!

    In most countries some enjoy life while others struggle to survive. Scandinavia seems to be the exception with respect to financial struggles.

    America is in political turmoil right now because of the enjoyment of the 1% and the struggle to survive of far foo many.

    Neither America nor Barbados is perfect.

    So I never ever compare Barbados to heaven or paradise. It can be a really nice place to live, relatively speaking and depending on what type of life one desires.

    America does offer greater opportunity but unless you come up with one brilliant idea nobody else ever had, you have to work your ass off.

    I prefer the simple life and so country life in Barbados where I can stand in my vegetable garden among the birds, the bees, the butterflies and the ladybirds, look at the sea and feel to be there and be there in less than fiive minutes is wondrous to me. I marvel whenever I stop to think about it really.

    I like the small island vibe.

    It is all subjective.

    But with the whole world at her feet Rihanna takes opportunities wherever she finds them and frequently finds herself touching base on this rock regardless.

    Frequently….because she can and also because she cannot help it.

    It’s home no matter where you live.

    Some European countries got it right, they learned from past errors and actually USE THEIR BRAIN….and understand that to achieve success, THEIR PEOPLE should always come first in the socio-economic realm.

    the discomfort for the Mia/Teets duo is that the TRUTH is galloping out and they can’t handle it, would love to corral it back in but that is a mountain they can’t climb….all of it needs to be released to PURGE the island of that POISON and START THE HEALING PROCESS FROM ALL OF DECADES OF CORRUPTION..

    I kinda laugh when talk of Africa makes for ongoing round table subject
    Just look around in the backyards of small island nations the poverty and crime which needs to address
    On a scale of 1-10 the interest is -2
    Furthermore people in small island nations have yet to find any unified position on any thing and put differences asides but talks about Africa a continent that is made up of people with many languages and cultural differences that small island people would find hard to assimilated among their own
    In the many years I have heard of talk about going to back to Africa I am yet to see this massive flight
    Reminds me of Cubans who lives in tge USA speaking of returning to Cuba when Castro dies
    Well all in all the round table topic on Africa makes for good exhaling

    Barbados the slave society for VIOLATING WORKER’S RIGHTS…starting with the dangerous sellout governments….Mia better don’t now pretend she’s doing these suffering people a favor…when the government is upfront in refusing to pay and setting up with thieving employers to get away with not paying employees, EG thieving hoteliers still have not paid hotel workers everything…. better not pretend she is some shero saving the day..

    .when people reach the point of ATTEMPTING SUICIDE because they are REFUSED their basic right to money they work for, can’t pay their bills or feed their families….international bodies SHOULD BE INFORMED.

    That was the plea from the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) yesterday as it made another plea to Government to find a speedy resolution to the plight of former Barbadian workers of collapsed regional airline LIAT.

    On Thursday, spokesperson for the 55 severed workers, Captain Neil Cave, said they had written to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley on Monday in a last-ditch effort to ease their suffering. At a press conference facilitated by Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley, Cave said “things were dread” and that mental health issues had now set in with some workers, with at least one attempting suicide.”

    I know the CONCEPT of taxpayers ….read the PEOPLE….. PAY FOR EVERYTHING is very new to the average Black person from Barbados…..but EURO countries like Denmark, Norway etc…the PEOPLE KNOW they PAY FOR EVERYTHING, they KNOW the MONEY IS THEIRS all of it…..that’s why some just need a signature of 1000 in a petition to REMOVE TOXIC, corrupt GOVERNMENTS…

    there is no such thing as HANDOUTS when the money IS YOURS…governments only have money given to them by the people, they have no other way of getting any outside of BRIBES.

    i have been trying to explain this for YEARS and many STILL DON’T GET IT…

    Mental health is serious business, it’s a PLAGUE in bigger countries who have been battling it for decades WITHOUT success and they have trillions of dollars at their disposal and still can’t rein it in, ask the billion dollar project manager who knows everything.

    I am engaged in a discussion that I do not fully understand.
    I suggested that with a few changes that life in Barbados could be sweeter for everyone.
    A few are telling me it is sweet for them, we like it so.

    @Dompey: It is difficult to asses a country based on the few people you interact with, but none of the folks that helped me formed my impression of Denmark were on welfare. What I saw was a proud and hardworking group of people whose confidence and sense of being a citizen was high.

    I made no reference to the US. I would be the first to agree that it is a flawed place and does not keep it promises to some of its citizens. I remain convince that we will get it right eventually…. Of that I am certain.

    It is hard to imagine this man is regarded as our foremost social practitioner. He is saying that anecdotally Inniss is still popular yet he is unsure what will happen if Inniss were to return to politics. The question he avoided is which political party would have the gumption to nominate Inniss to run again. It would be a quantum step back were Inniss to feel he should present himself agin to the electorate.

    Besides party politics, there is such a thing as personality politics.. Also with our love of pedigree it would not surprise me if Donville returns and get a second or third bite of the apple. It has been done before (see below). Of course, those who are now spouting fake outrage will continue to do so, but they are not part of his voting block.

    Donville’s conviction set him apart from other politicians in Barbados. but statements from our leaders convinces me that he would have never been accused, tried or convicted if the same information was in the sole hands of GOB.

    We see people trying to position this as one crook and thirty virgins, but the average man believes it is one convicted crook and 30 crooks who are not yet caught. The distance between Donville and our other politicians is imaginary. Our wishful thinking and opinions may be divorced from reality.

    A jogging into the archives of my mind reminded me of a situation which placed the then leader of the blp OSA to answer allegations placed over his head after him receiving a whopping check from a business entity which he placed in how personnel bank account
    Then when the story got out into public domain OSA declared the whopper of hundreds of dollar was for campaign financing
    Up to present time no one was told why OSA placed that money into his personnel bank account
    The skeleton are long and large in the blp side
    However as OSA Barbadianhave forgetful memory

    I like smart people. I like a good laugh.

    I find it amusing and amazing when Mariposa jumps aboard a dead horse and flogs it to a second death.

    I also find it amusing, when the spin and fast bowlers take to the field and give us some exciting deliveries. I have seen some spinning here that would make us champions if we could duplicate it in test cricket.

    Watching the blogmaster spinning is exciting cricket. Rumpelstiltskin would be envious of his spin; unfortunately for us, the end product is not gold.

    A person having the right and others having a dispassionate debate about the utility such a decision were it to be taken is a different matter. Inniss was caught out taking a bribe in Barbados. The money laundering conviction in the US stemmed from the ICBL executives secreting funds to Inniss via the USA. We know why.

    The truth is….. I always had a liking for Donville. He had a fluency and a smoothness that I found appealing.
