  1. If the exit poll rings true this will be a sound rejection of Jeremy Corbyn as a leader.

If Conservatives brings home the votes predicted yes Brexit looms large.

  2. Thank heavens for the common sense of those who voted! Every time I see a picture of Corbyn I see horns growing out of his head. Free this and free that he promised, well the only thing free in this world is the rain, snow and the sun that comes up and goes down every day. SOME HAS TO PAY FOR THE FREENESSES,

  3. Let’s see the results first!!

Exit Polls predicted Hilary would win.

    I don’t trust any poll!

I am thoroughly disgusted with the English electorate. I hereby renounce my British passport and citizenship.

The only upside is the prospect of Scottish independence and a unified Ireland.

  6. PLT:

Hal had his finger on the pulse of the British electorate, and confidently predicted otherwise. Therefore, you need to wait for the formal result.

  7. @ David December 12, 2019 6:39 PM

I have tuned into the BBC. It looks as though Boris may or may not win his seat ,

    @ Hal
The Tories seem to have won.

  8. @peterlawrencethompson December 12, 2019 8:00 PM

The only upside is the prospect of Scottish independence and a unified Ireland.

I am not sure what the Irish will do, but a move for independence by the SNP is guaranteed.

  9. The SNP can try but depending on the size of the majority of the Conservatives it will be a challenge.

    @PLT why such a comment ?

I have only haphazardly follow the election campaign but generally it seemed tough for Corbyn to pull this out…moreso a decision HAS to be made re Brexit and for all practical purposes it seemed incredlous to perceive that a new referendum to overturn was viable or practical.

Based on the early results one can look past any exit polling projections and extrapolate from actual results…where some Labor strongholds have been decimated.

I await the local pundits like Hal n Miller to really dissect this lambasting.

  12. Looks like Boris but we still have to wait and see.

I am no pundit but predicting this was as easy as predicting Trump would win!!

    Trump vs Hilary

Boris vs Corbin or is it Corbyn

A no brainer, two lunatics in the Bajan sense vs two complete jokers in the universal sense.

But, still a ways to go.

I could be wrong but I doubt it.

The issue was BREXIT. Did Corbyn give any clear indication where he stood on the issue? If he did ,I missed it. And so did the rest of the Brittish Electorate.

    Boris sure did.

Corbyn the joker went about changing the law to thwart Boris … the lunatic!!

  15. Corbyn, apart from being a joker was also a spoiler!!

  16. Trump would say, loser.

I have no knowledge of the political situation in the UK but the likely result telegraphed itself months ago.

  17. Corbyn had some good ideas, unfortunately he never decided whether or not he wanted Brexit.

    @ the Honourable Blogmaster

    You said AND I QUOTE

“…If the exit poll rings true this will be a sound rejection of Jeremy Corbyn as a leader….”

Sometimes, even in the midst of your blind loyalty to Mugabe, you speak a truth.

As an example for ALL TO SEE, SPECIFICALLY THE PEOPLE’s DEMOCRATIC PARTY FOR DEMOCRACY AND DEVELOPMENT, IF YOU DO NOT CHAMPION A LEADER THAT THE PEOPLE CAN IDENTIFY WITH, you will lose.

Corbyn WAS NOT LIKED and his non likeability IN ADDITION TO HIS UNKNOWN STANCE ON BREXIT complexioned why he lost

But then again we need to look towards Daniel 7 and “the 10 toes of the EU”

De ole man, because Barbados Underground has refused to publish my recent submissions

    1.the one about Pornville
2.and 2 others for the PdP

will use this non consequential article where the Honourable Blogmaster CAN EXPECT TO DISTRACT & OBSCURATE bajans with the UK issues TO HIGHLIGHT the similarities in the Failed Corbyn campaign WITH THAT OF THE PdP at 2019.

I know I can expect the BU BORG to keep de ole man submissions in suspense cause…..dat is his job AS MINISTER OF DISINFORMATION

  19. Piece the Legend Avatar

And, if only to prove what I have said about DISTRACTION, what the Honourable Blogmaster is promoting is NON NAVEL GAZING heheheheh, look at the voting responses of Scotland!

The Scots who are now a displaced country, see Brexit as a Death Knoll for them!

De ole man compares the Scots as those bajans who see that Mugabe Mottley is carving up Barbados INTO LITTLE PIECES, socially, politically and economically

They see Mugabe as forcing a Bajan Brexit down their throats where

1.the country has left its ethics behind and nepotism rules AND THE CONSTITUTION IS CHANGED ON A WHIM

2.the social fabric of Barbados has been and continues to be destroyed as Mugabe brings her drug dealer friends to Parliament WHILE CREATING COCAINE ENCLAVES WHERE THEY CAN STORE COCAINE under the guise of growing Medical Marijuana

3.recreating segregation zones WHILE PROMOTING THIS BRIDGETOWN REGENERATION MADNESS where all bajans, like those in Nelson Street and Baxters Road will be ultimately displaced by THE MUGABE REGIME VERSION OF “NO-GO” ZONES

4.where DEATH AS A CONSEQUENCE OF HER IGNORING HER DRUG DEALER FRIENDS has Barbados in this 53 death purgatory

But, there is hope for these quiet sojourners

AND THST HOPE COMES WHEN THE PDP GETS IT ACT TOGETHER and replaces its leader from the perceived MUGABE PLANT, Reverend Joseph Atherley TO SENATOR CASWELL FRANKLYN!

In the similar way that LABOUR IS NOW REMOVING JEREMY CORBYN!!!

  20. To those who view the election result as finally resolving the Brexit issue it is early days yet. The UK is still a country split down the centre. Brexit was a wedge issue commingled with Corbyn’s lack of leadership. Boris understands communication and he used public appearances, cliches etc to send his messages. Even on this blog some of the older folk underestimate the power of social media and crafting pertinent concise messages that resonate with the targets.

  21. The democratic will of the people has now been met. The ruling elite forgot you can lead if no one wants to follow. The elite felt that the people were idiots. These same idiots fought and gave their lives in WW2.. The situation is similar with Trump. The elite figure Trump has no right to be president. The farce of an impeachment tells it all.

  22. Piece the Legend Avatar

    @ the Honourable Blogmaster

You point about crafting a pertinent message for one’s audience is spot on.

And while the substantive topic is Brexit de ole man is going to focus on what it means in Barbados more than the UK.

So my articles will alternate between the PdP and what WILL HAPPEN TO OIR TOURISM ARRIVALS post Brexit

de ole man recognizes de PdP has an uphill battle AND HOPES THEY USE THE EXPERIENCE OF JEREMY CORBYN to pick sense from common sense.

it IS NOT GOING to be sufficient for the PdP to have good points.

in fact, the mere fact that their existence IS BEING PARODIED BY MUGABE underscores the fact that she recognizes that she HAS TO do everything in her power to discredit the PdP before they get a foothold in the minds of Bajans.

The PdP cannot rest its strategy on just agitation AND BEING SEEN AS A PROTEST VOTE like Jeremy Corbyn IT HAS TO SHOW THAT THEY HAVE PRINCIPLES AND A PATHWAY to social and economic recovery THAT INCLUDES ALL BAJANS!

We understand how part of their strategy will be to highlight the plethora of faults of the BLP, they dont need to mention the dead DLP.

But it is critical that they set themselves apart from all other parties that continue apace to betray the trust of the Bajan people.

Already, their existence AND SUPPORT FOR THIS EXISTENCE, is being notices and the BLP and No Solutions Barbados has started a joint campaign against their new competitors calling their leader a political Judas and have join forces to discredit them.

It is partially for this reason de ole man I’d telling Reverend Joseph Atherley to step down but it also is based on the X factor that people call charisma, WHICH CASWELL FRANKLYN HAS AN ABUNDANCE OF, AND JOE HAS NONE!

Now please, I am asking the PdP leadership, do not get de ole man wrong!

These comments ARE NOT PERSONAL, de ole man is being pragmatic

You need to find A Point of Affinity with the Voting & Non Voting Populace if you are to win.

now, do not tek de ole man’s words as gospel, conduct some test sessions and determine if what de ole man is saying is true!

Gauge my insights with the actuality of voter surveys where you conduct sessions and evaluate WHETHER PEOPLE IDENTIFY WITH JOE OR CASWELL!

And wunna going see that de ole man is right AND BECAUSE I AM RIGHT, JEREMY CORBYN LOST, and the PdP IF YOU PUT JOSEPH ATHERLEY OUT FRONT, will lose too!

  23. Who is credited with the following?

Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.

  24. @ Robert Lucas

I have replied to your post to me, but some bone-headed idiot has removed it (and yours) from the Open for Business blog. I do not want to prolong any discussion about Boris Johnson and Brexit, as I have stated.

  25. We are already hearing the familiar nonsense that BoJo won because his social media messaging was better than that of the Labour Party.

This result had very little to do with social media messaging. The Conservative vote hardly increased.

The Labour Party vote, on the other hand, collapsed by more than 10% in many constituencies, particularly those in the north of England where blue collar Brits who voted for Brexit in the referendum were ignored by many of their foolish Labour MPs, who continue to affirm their allegiance to the EU and globalism.

People who died in the Second European War did NOT vote in yesterday’s British election, because those idiots have been dead for more than 70 years and so many died so young that they did not leave any children nor grand children behind.

  28. Sir Simple Simon

“The people who voted against their own best interest …”

How arrogant can you be? You take it upon yourself to decide what the best interests of “these people” are?

“These people” are British nationalists. YOU don’t like nationalism. So all you can reasonably say is that “these people” voted against YOUR interests.

  29. Piece:

Why are you trying to bring Solutions Barbados into your nonsense?

Atherley is not a Judas. He promised the public of Barbados that his aim as Opposition leader was to support the BLP’s policies. Both he, and his senators, consistently vote for the BLP’s worst legislative agenda. That is easily verifiable.

The Integrity in Public Life bill is a joke. Solutions Barbados appeared at the joint select committee to publicly identify the worst parts of it, where it essentially legalized bribery. Only one senator opposed us.

Guess who that was Piece? None other than Caswell – a man of high integrity, but you seem to be having a very very bad effect on him.

It certainly did not take you very long to start a mutiny and turn on Atherley. Would not that make you the Judas of the pdp?

I have a sister who has long lived in the U.K. I love her very, very much. so much that she can have one of my kidneys at any time if she needs it. She voted Brexit too. I still love her. We will still dine together when she visits. But ‘yes” she voted against her own best interest.

Mr Blogmaster, of necessity you should discuss properly your much too summarized remarks above. What do mean when you say:

To those who view the election result as finally resolving the Brexit issue it is early days yet.
Early days of what? To see the nation revert to another round of inter-citizen fighting…a US style civil war even!

*** The UK is still a country split down the centre.*** ….. Of course it is but wasn’t the US also effectively similarly split with 48% and 46% of the popular vote count. That’s what elections invarabily send up: a divided country.

Brexit was a wedge issue commingled with Corbyn’s lack of leadership. ….. Brexit is the most consequential issue (bluntly and obtusely stated it’s the disavowal of and final acquiescence that “the sun has set on the once vast empire and her boundaries are quite narrowly to be ascertained.’

What exactly does Corbyn’s supposed lack of leadership (whatever that actually means) has to do with this defeat considering his party could NOT defeat May either and he retained his top role?

*** Boris understands communication and he used public appearances, cliches etc to send his messages.***
And what then did he do so differently to May that saw him to the victory at which she failed just a few years back!… Is his Brexit plan more complete; are his Irish protocols so much better…

Clearly we all realize this is a monster election for Brits (and us) but as in US it’s impossible to slot it into cliched slots (like the ruling elite trope).

****Even on this blog some of the older folk underestimate the power of social media and crafting pertinent concise messages that resonate with the targets.*** … This is a general item but pertinent too for deeper debate…one day entire blogs even.

What do we ever mean by the power of concise social media messaging that resonates!

It has ALWAYS been the case that catchy, concise messaging carried the day…Churchill and his booming oratory with apt ‘sound bites’ carried that day…on the flip sides so to Goebbles crafty disinformation; Kennedy’s messaging was sharp, so too Reagan’s; political fans remember pre social media “read my lips, no new taxes’…that was catchy, concise and powerful, in victory and then when it bit sharply in defeat !

And then folks like Clinton, Bush 43 and supremely so Obama all messaged well…

Oh and BTW circa 64 BC pre, pre, pre, pre …this overpowering electronic age a Cicero is reported to have counselled his brother politician to: “Be sure to put on a good show” and “You must always think of publicity, it is vital that you use all of your assets to spread the word about your campaign to the widest possible audience”. … Timeless political advice…. yes!

Now thanks to social media the sharp, targetted messaging is a dangerously direct one-to-one appeal that magnifies DISINFORMATION to unsustainable levels of gravest danger. Political social messaging will be the bane of democracies… no wonder the Putin and Erdoğan types of politics control it so agressively!

  32. Most of the working class voters who decided this election by abandoning the Labour Party don’t pay much attention to social media.

Yet middle class election commentators talk endlessly about the influence of social media.

  33. @Dee Word

Time does not always allow to read and spell. Corbyn was not able to lead his team to victory because he waffled in the issue of Brexit. We live in time where the leader who communicates effectively and appears as charismatic will win over the dour boring sort. Look at the USA Trump vs Biden and see what happens.

  34. Don’t worry, the pendulum will swing back left once there is money to be wasted/spent.

Boris will lose his appeal and some charismatic labour leader will appear with policies that make ever so much sense, for the time!!.

  35. @Dee Word

The blogmaster is offering an opinion like all others here. Let us agree BREXIT was at the heart of Labour problems with third party factor, demographics, youth vote, lack of leadership etc.

  36. BREXIT promises Britons the unknown, the possibility of hitting it big on their own without having to finance a whole set of parasites and hangers on in Brussels… dam foreigners, frogs, boche if you like.

People like the unknown and the leaders who show they can “chart a path” will be followed.

Doesn’t mean they will be successful.

If they aren’t the people will look elsewhere because besides liking the unknown, people are by nature, fickle.

  37. @ Angela Simpson
As I’m sure you know in life nothing is free, maybe apart from the air we breathe. Social programs to meet the needs of working people are not free. The cost of them comes out of the wealth created by workers. This is exactly the same place that the profits of the capitalists come from and the interest paid to the moneylenders. Do you think of shareholder dividends as freeness? The issue here is what happens to society’s wealth which is created by workers. Do the working people get first claim on it to meet their needs or do the capitalists? Depending on how you answer that question, you will know whose side you’re on.

  38. @ Ewart Archer December 13, 2019 7:57 AM
“These people” are British nationalists. YOU don’t like nationalism. So all you can reasonably say is that “these people” voted against YOUR interests.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Now that the majority of the “English” people, especially the northerners, have gotten their wish of Brexit (at any cost) as expressed in the 2016 referendum would you be as vehemently supportive of their more northerly neighbours in their call for another referendum to decide their future as part of the Union?

Would you be prepared to support any Scottish nationalist call for a vote on Scotland’s independence since the ‘majority’ of Scots are also “non-Brexiteers”?

Just remember what is good for the English nationalist ‘brexit-flying’ geese is just as good for the ‘independently-swimming’ Scottish sturgeon or even a pervert for a salmon(d).

That Boris victory makes me feel sick in the stomach. But it is not surprising. All those working class northerners, including ex miners, are so driven by the idea of foreigners telling them what they do they prefer to elect a charlatan, a snake oil charmer, as prime minister.
Boris has been so successful he has wiped out the Brexit party and put paid to Farage. Tells you something.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++

    Never found Farage appealing.

He isn’t in the league with Trump or Boris.

Could never understand your (and others) fascination with him.

Seem to remember you being sure Farage would win in past discussions.

He just never came across to me as possessing that special factor Trump and Boris have.

Boris and Trump are alleged to have had plenty women.

Up to yesterday Boris is supposed to have hidden in a fridge to avoid the press.

I didn’t even read the story I just laughed, Boris went up in my estimation!!

Corbyn and Farage are just plain downright boring.

Trump and Boris naturally appeal to the working class even although they would be described as being upper class given their upbringing.

They just connect with people … for now.

People who despise the working class despise Trump and Boris for being able to move so comfortably in working class circles.

More importantly, the press despises them and working people despise the press.

The more they are attacked the better they are liked by the majority.

They are viewed by the working class as having taken their licks and have earned the respect of that class who is always on the receiving end.

Unless something weird happens, Trump will be reelected by a landslide and more than likely, given the performance of the young Republicans in the house during the recent hearings, the Democrats will lose their majority.

They made it through the rain and found themselves respected by others who got rained on too!!.

The once ‘great’ Britain is, today, a Nobody on her own.

The ‘cheap’ resources and ready-made markets of her former colonies in her former ‘formidable’ empire are no longer available to her long dead industrial czars.

Like previous powerful European nation states (Rome, Spain, Austria, France), Britain will follow a similar path of impotence and oblivion except for her “English” language- even if most of it has been borrowed from other languages, especially Latin- to become the No.1 lingua franca of the modern age.

Even little poor-great Barbados which has never severed its navel string is about to leave the British broken-down palace.

The pretend United Kingdom ought to make use of a bastardized anagram and change its name to “Enginstan” (England, India and Pakistan).

  43. @Miller

The support SNO received supports their call for separation. The Tories heals steady and will support their argument that the call is not a slam dunk. The conversation will continue.

  44. @ John,
You do realise that Nigel Farage single-handedly ran a campaign over a number of years to get the UK out of the EU; and that he is the poster boy for a large number of Europeans who are anti-EU.

To this day he remains a much hated figure amongst the European political elite. And least we forget his presence meant that the Conservative party had to adapt their policies to accommodate this renegade figure.

I personally do not like the man. But I respect him for his unfailing loyalty to a cause. He stands for something unlike Boris, who will always remain a figure of fun.

Neither was Brexit a slam dunk case. Yet Boris persevered and gave the people living south of the Boarder the opportunity to state their position in the most unequivocally slam dunk way.

BoJo might have Scottish ancestral blood flowing though his political veins but he does not speak for the ‘large’ majority of the Scottish people when he (in true Bajan style),“pompasettingly” claims that:
“This election means that getting Brexit done is now the irrefutable, irresistible, unarguable decision of the British people. With this election I think we’ve put an end to all those miserable threats of a second referendum.”

The people of Scotland do not want a second referendum on Brexit since they have already made it clear where the Conservative Party can take Brexit and stuff it, if not up the rear end of the traitor Cameron.

What they want is the opportunity to demonstrate, democratically, their electoral true feelings on a matter on which there is a perceived stark agreement.

The vast majority of Scots want to remain in the EU. The only way to maintain this beneficial relationship is by becoming a separate state outside the ‘British’ Union.

Why not a vote on Independence the same way Boris gave the southerners another chance to express their wish for Brexit?

The same way Boris J took the chance and will be ‘trusting’ in the ‘Will’ of his Brexit people, why not trust the intelligence of the ‘fellow’ Scots in the Union?

Why would Boris J not wish to emulate his idol of a Churchill-like statesman by adhering to the axiomatic proviso that:
“Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others”.

  50. If the writing for Brexit wasn’t on the wall before, it is now. With an increased majority Boris will claim that his path is supported by the electorate the only fly(ies) in the ointment are Scotland and Ireland. Is Nicola a present day Robert the Bruce?

Britain has always been reluctant about joining the European Common Market (predecessor to the EU) it could be rooted in the years of enmity between France and England and Britain was relegated to a junior partner to France in an EU that it was late coming to the party. Britain famously refused to adopt the Euro and kept Sterling as its official currency. Britain wasn’t exactly thrilled about the open Borders which allowed entry into its country as long as one was cleared to enter a European partner as it felt it infringed on its sovereignty

So, Britain opts to go the solo route as it has done in the past

Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves (as in one upon a time)
