In recent days we have have had controversial Minister of Environment making the news. He appears to have taken umbrage to the decision by the government to re-purpose the Sanitation Headquarters built under his watch. One wonders who is the person he alleged prevented the opening of the building.  It appears he has overcome health concerns.

Before Lowe’s sighting last weekend President Verla De Peiza gave the government a failing grade. One has to accept that the DLP membership in its infinite wisdom selected De Peiza to lead the party and supported the effort by electing Irene Sandiford-Garner the deputy. Should onlookers conclude that an emboldened Lowe will be followed by former colleagues? What will their mouthings do to compromise the DLP rebuild after the shellacking in the last general election?

The following snippet was sent to the blogmaster’s inbox reported to be written by Political Consultant Reudon Eversley – Do you agree with the author?

So Verla, the perennial electoral loser, is giving the Mottley
government a failing grade in its first 500 days. The comment is not a
surprise. It reflects a new aggressive negative politics of doom
coming out of George Street. However, the comment  speaks volumes of
how far the once great party  — now a fringe group since the last
general election — has slipped into lalaland in the last year and
half. Verla should be speaking instead about how successful she has
been in turning around the fortunes of the Dems who are growing more
and more frustrated and desperate under her ineffective leadership. By
this time next year, if current rumblings are anything to go by, she
may very well be political history because the patience of those
waiting in the corridors is running out. After the Dems brought
Barbados to its knees in the stagnant post David Thompson period
because of failed leadership and incompetence, there could be no
overnight miracles. The comeback will be gradual but I am satisfied
that the rehabilitation of Barbados, not just economically but on all
fronts, is well underway. Clear signs are there. Confidence, for
example, is back. The only people not seeing it are the  Dems in
blinkers. Miss Mottley has done an admirable job. She has led from in
front. She is the chief marketer of Barbados internationally — an
important task neglected by the Dems in the previous 8 years. Miss
Mottley is growing in stature and respect on the world stage and it
will redound to the benefit of Barbados. Look at the prestigious
speaking engagements she is getting. Look at the positive press she is
also getting internationally.  In the region, Barbados is being
respected again. Friends in the region who  used to call and lament
the drift they were seeing under the Dems are making the most
complimentary comments about Barbados’ leadership again. I am
politically independent. Since resigning from the Dems over five years
ago because I did not wish to align myself with political failures, I
belong to no political party. I am a political professional and my
views are non-partisan. However, I am supporting Miss Mottley because
I want the best for Barbados and the performance of the Dems in their
last stint in government shows beyond the shadow of a doubt that they
are not the best for Barbados.

Piece uh de cock yeah tight,
As Barbados and its institutions desperately try to escape the clutches of moribundity and decadence, many people have begun to point fingers at local politicians as being the one and only cause of our national problems. However, if I were allowed to tweak Shakespeare a wee bit, I would remind you that “the fault, dear Brutus, is not in the stars or our politicians, but in ourselves.”

If BU readers were to remain silent for a few seconds and try to filter some of those ideas that manage to rise above the din, they would detect a clarion call for Barbadians to come together and rebuild their country through cooperation, collaboration, and self-reliance.This call represents “a dream to be pursued, but never attained”.

You might justifiably ask: “Why is this the case?”
This is so because many of our problems stem from the way we view and treat each other. The dunciest of our village idiots can see the ease with which I can extract a load of nasty, stinking, slimy, vitriolic bile from within your and Pachamamum’s respective bosoms. I can do this at will because both of you possess these negative, destructive attributes in abundance.

Some of us, rather than smile and shrug off the attempted insult of being called penniless, would much prefer to kill our mother or sister for a dollar. That is the type of collective citizenry we have morphed into.
Burdened with these prevailing self-defeating attitudes, the country of Barbados will find it extremely difficult to progress in a meaningful way.

    Heaven help us all.

PS: I would close my eyes and vote for Grenville Phillips and Solutions Barbados, or for the 30 sitting members of parliament, before I vote for YOUR third party. In fact, neither you nor your third party would ever get my vote. You are too nasty-minded.,You can cuss me as much as you like, but I suspect that I am not the only one on BU clinging tenaciously to that position. A very good day to you and your tag team, my friend.

FORMER GOVT MINISTER’S BRIBERY CASE NOW TO BE HEARD IN JANUARY
    by Wade Gibbons

More than a year after bringing bribery charges against former Democratic Labour Party government minister Donville Inniss,

United States authorities are still trying to gather evidence to prove their allegations.

The trial that was set to be heard before District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto on October 28, has now been moved to January 6, 2020, for jury selection and commencement.

  4. RE Hosea teaches us that “where there is no vision the people perish”.
    THIS IS ERRONEOUS

Where there is no vision, the people perish is Proverbs 29:18a

  6. @ GP: I stand corrected. You rightfully point to Proverbs as the source rather than Hosea

However, the larger point had to do with the persistent water problem(s) confronting the Governments and People of Barbados (under both the DLP and the BLP) and the need/search for a solution.

Whether a voice is credible or not, depends upon whose ears it falls.
The prolonged silence, which in fairness bore a striking similarity to the last years in office, was to be expected. When your entire First XI Div 1 teams gets wiped out, and your 2ndXI squad isn’t well developed, you end up defaulting several potential opportunities. Plus the DI issue, remains a dark cloud.
Time has opened several opportunities for comment, albeit in the blame game most popular in Barbados, is can be difficult to detach oneself from past opportunities to change and rectify, those current issues of today. The continuing garbage issues are ripe, and given the attention being paid by several; Minister, Chairman, other Ministries, strongly suggests those in power know they have a problem. 16+ months is a long time to fix those.
What they need are issues which cannot be blamed upon their former actions or inactions. In other words, they must rebuild credibility, beyond the politically partisan. However tarnished, they have a brand well known to Bajans. They need new faces and new approaches. Easier said than done.

“Barbados’ archaic 1929 Prevention of Corruption Act under which US authorities are basing their allegations against Inniss was also subject of contention in motions filed by the defence and prosecution in the case. The US government sought to have testimony introduced by attorney Thomas Durbin who is reputed to be an expert on the relevant Barbados statute. But it was argued that not only was the legislation a relic of Barbados’ colonial past, but Section 7 of the legislation established a mandatory presumption that shifted the burden of proof to the defendant. It was argued that this not only went against modern US law but was also unconstitutional in Barbados and had been excluded from the updated 2012 Barbados Prevention of Corruption Law that has been passed in both Houses of the Barbados Parliament but to date has not been enacted into law by proclamation.

Speaking on condition of anonymity today, a local legal source indicated that under the 1929 Act, in circumstances where most if not all Barbadian politicians annually accepted money, goods and services to stage Christmas parties or other functions in their constituencies, “they would all be guilty of a crime and subject to being charged” until they proved otherwise.

Today Barbados TODAY investigations revealed that an official of the brokerage firm that has sourced insurers for the BIDC for almost a decade was only last year appointed to the same BIDC in a very senior position. Efforts to reach the broker/BIDC official were unsuccessful.”

WE (emphasis mine) call for a permanent ceasefire.”

    TheOGazerts,
Sometimes public education can be fun.

Piece uh de cock yeah tight is bragging on BU that he has a tag team (third party….) and he is deliberately and consistently addressing you as Commander. You, before now, have given no indication whatsoever to BU readers that you are part of any grouping . That explains why I find your use of the word “we” above to be eye-catching.

“Not one effing seat” was a phrase coined by Piece uh de cock yeah tight. He gloated in the belief that he used it to inflict maximum damage on his opponents. I simply took his phrase, and applied it against his third party (use of the boomerang principle) and waited. Go back and read Piece uh de cock yeah tight’s response.

Social problem highlighted: Some people are only bullies in their minds. When confronted, they demonstrate that they can give, but they cannot take. We have thousands of these types of individuals in the general population (home, school, work, etc) and they create a lot of social problems.

If you are the leader of a third party…and a voter is honest enough to look you in the eye and tell you without blinking that he/she would never vote for you, wouldn’t you accept that pronouncement with maturity and respect? Whatever you do, you do not curse that voter. Go back and read Piece uh de cock yeah tight’s response. As man, after reading his response to me, would you still respect him as a leader?

Social problem highlighted: Everybody in Barbados seems to be rushing forward to pick up positions of influence and leadership. They focus on the amount of power, comfort, perqs, and prestige that such a position would bestow upon them. They never for one moment stop and ask themselves if they possess the skills, attributes, judgment, and temperament needed for the job. Most of the times they do not. This has resulted in widespread organizational decay in Barbados.

Given the above, I do not agree with you that the exchange with Piece uh de cock yeah tight “serves no real purpose.”

By the way, if a commander calls for a permanent ceasefire, is that the 21st century diplomatic way of saying WE surrender? LOL

Former bloodhound cop and an ace marksman, Ashford Athelbert “Rap Brown” Jones, has been charged with having 100 bullets without a permit.

The 72-year-old of Goodland, Christ Church is expected in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning to answer the charge.

Police are alleging that their former colleague was caught with the ammunition on October 13 when the Anti-gun and Gangs Unit intercepted his car at Grazettes Main Road, St Michael and found one hundred rounds of .40 ammunition.

  20. Why would someone have bullets and no gun? Isn’t the penalty the same for possession of either one if you don’t have a permit? TheOGazerts,
Congrats on your appointment as sole representative and mouthpiece of the “rest of BU”. I will continue to be independent minded and represent myself.

Back and forth in itself cannot add to or subtract from any discussion. If you are going to add your two cents of worth, you have to read and analyze the content of the back and forth submissions and then make an informed comment.

I use different individuals, methods and techniques to highlight the genesis and roots of some of the social problems plaguing Barbados today. I took time out to show you that some national social problems start with the mind and behavior of the individual. The individual is not always a politician. I often use Pachamamum and Piece uh de cock yeah tight as powerful examples simply because they exhibit a plethora of bad attributes, including bad manners. I make no apologies to you or anybody for saying so.

If, after reading my submissions above, you have concluded that they did not put me “in a good light” (remember you are speaking on behalf of the rest of BU), then I will acknowledge your assessment with all of the pretentious grace and charm that I can muster.

Reflect ye on this: You have made reference to no word, sentence, or paragraph I wrote, so how can I possibly view your assessment to be fair?

Madness is sometimes defined as “doing the same futile thing over and over agai, and expecting different results.”

For the last 53 years bajans have been voting for the DLP or BLP party on the sole basis of “this is the lesser evil”.

After 53 years we have come to realise that, regardless of which party is elected, 10 years later, we arrive at a situation where the Party in Power has become the Thief in Parliament and is raping the country.

nothing changes and the representative become big, and slouchy corrupt and arrogant.

But in 2019, we the people have come to see the light AS WE SUFFER UNDER THE YOKE OF THE IMF.

We CANNOT CONTINUE TO GO DOWN THE SAME TRACK OF “we only got de two of dem” cause de bulling dem both giving we is the same “whether by Stinkliar and Limp Doggie Fumbles or with the pretend doggie of Mugabe.

the time has come, and is now, to make a radical change in the calibre of candidate we vote to run our country.

we have no choice but to elect men and women, WHO BEFORE THEY EVEN GET IN PARLIAMENT, show that they can deliver the goods.

And then you will do a juxtaposition report of “yours” and the stolen property report.

@TheOgazertsOctober 18, 2019 6:44 AM “in the top 5% of the world’s best 28,000 universities, is now in a place unimagined a decade ago.”

Well TheOgazerts you could have gone to the original university ranking which Barbados Today quoted.

    https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings

UWI is ranked in the 501-600 range.

    Top 1% is 280
    Top 2% is 560
    Top 5% is 1,400
    Top 10% is 2,800

But I failed O’level math, so don’t take my numbers to mean anything.

I don’t care what you or anybody else says I am NOT, repeat NOT voting for any pope, bishop, pastor or priests to sit in my House.

    Nope.

    I ain’t doing it.

Even though i go to church most Sundays.

I prefer to keep my religion and my politics completely separate.

    @ WARU

It is precisely on these social agencies that the Third Party Movement, in general and, more specifically, the People’s Party for Democracy and Development. need to weigh in on. WARU.

How can a teif be appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer?

Unless said Transparency International wishes to become “a pillar in the corruption matrix”, it must seek to become a more proactive actor in facilitating Creater Transparency

If we go back to agreements between TI and countries which claim to be a part of their ratings there are some things that direct us about their operations.

It becomes evident that the majority of the survey documents are based on information that IS BASED ON SAID HOST GOVERNMENT RECORDS so that corrupt government IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO DISSEMINATE TRUTHFUL RECORDS!

Here is a comment from TI’s website

“…Grand corruption thrives in such settings.

Cases like Petrobras and Odebrecht in Brazil or the saga of ex-President Viktor Yanukovych in Ukraine show how collusion between businesses and politicians siphons off billions of dollars in revenue from national economies, benefitting the few at the expense of the many.

This kind of systemic grand corruption violates human rights, prevents sustainable development and fuels social exclusion…”

So, if the model of collusion holds true, then it becomes evident why the content of this Stoopid Cartoon obtains in Barbados.

  40. Contrary to Mia’s fake professor’s arrogant, uppity mouthings, they had to reach that agreement with external creditors and keep it..

    https://www.nationnews.com/nationnews/news/242286/government-reaches-deal-foreign-debt

“There has been a breakthrough in debt restructuring negotiations between Government and the Barbados External Creditor Committee, which represents foreign bondholders.

The NATION can confirm that the two parties have reached an agreement in principle to resolve the external commercial default.

It is expected that the new bonds due 2029 will be issued with an aggregate face value in excess of US$500 million.

Under the arrangement, the foreign commercial creditors will be exchanging “certain of the Government’s United States dollar-denominated debt for new bonds to be issued by Barbados”.

This includes Barbados’ 7.8 per cent Fixed Rate Bonds due 2019, 7.25 per cent Notes due 2021, seven per cent Notes due 2022, 6.625 per cent Notes due 2035, and Floating Rate Loan with final maturity in 2019.

The agreement in principle follows extensive discussions between the Committee and the Government after the Mia Mottley administration ceased payments to foreign commercial creditors on June 1 last year.”

    SirSimpleSimonPresidentForLife,
All of us on BU have noted that you are clinging tenaciously to your position. Nothing is wrong with that.
As a voter, you have the right to qualify or disqualify any candidate for whatever reason you may chose.

I respect and salute you for remaining steadfast and defiant in the face of a persistent, but unjustifiable personal onslaught.

  42. Congrats to White Oak and government.

  43. “…Grand corruption thrives in such settings.

that has been our whole point on BU for years and years…no matter what she and her clowns come up with now, no one has been held aacountble for these clear thefts of public funds…BY THE BILLIONS of dollars…and even CLEARER VIOLATIONS OF THE MAJORITY POPULATIOIN’S HUMAN RIGHTS…look at the condition of the island, more importantly look at what the people are being subjected to on a dialy basis.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights are very, very clear about these crimes committed BY ANY STATE or it’s AGENTS…against vulnerable populations….there needs to be a CLAMPDOWN….they have gotten away with these crimes against people and country for decades.

she could pretend to be turning bread into wine now and i will NEVER BE MOVED…just because no one was or is clearly NOT BEING HELD accountable for these crimes against the people and country…..AS THEY SHOULD.

  44. BTW…Barbados is also a member/signatory to the Inter-American Commission treaties on Human Rights…which they have ALL IGNORED…both governments…and ALL THE TIEFING LAWYERS…..they pretend it does not exist and i will bet my last dollar NONE OF THEM EVER TOLD THE PEOPLE ABOUT THESE RIGHTS…or the treaty..

none of this can be EVER overlooked or forgiven…they are all criminals..

  45. They can NEVER CLEAN THIS UP…until the criminals who reduced the island to poverty are held accountable…and no one is allowing them to cover it up either…Bajans need to GET THE HELL UP …and ASSERT THEIR RIGHTS…and stop allowing these criminals in suits pretending to be lawyers and leaders to continually violate them and generations of their children..

“The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights is an autonomous organ of the Organization of American States. Along with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, it is one of the bodies that comprise the inter-American system for the promotion and protection of human rights. The IACHR is a permanent body, with headquarters in Washington, D.C., United States, and it meets in regular and special sessions several times a year to examine allegations of human rights violations in the hemisphere.”

De ole man recognises that you are the person who introduced the Transparency International perspective and therefore I will address these points to you and your feedback would be appreciated.

Here are some additional points from TI’s website

“…Putting the (Corruption) scores in context

The lower-ranked countries in our index are plagued by untrustworthy and badly functioning public institutions like the police and judiciary. …”

Let de ole man pause here to let that point sink in.

The Honourable Blogmaster has floated this topic about whether the DLP has a credible voice.

To wit it has been proven that they dont AND NEITHER DOES THE BLP.

But let’s examine why they both ate not to be trusted.

We have a judiciary which has a EFFED up system with cases that have not been heard for 20 years, people who are locked up for 10 years without a trial, lawyers who teifing people money and land, WHO ARE NOW PURPORTEDLY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THE HEAD OF THE INTEGRITY COMMISSION, FORMER POLICEMENSES with 104 illegal bullets, policemen who shot people in Bush Hall and not a ting happening, judges sitting on thousands of decisions/judgements and 46 murders officially suppressed and reported as 40!

    The article continues

“…Even where anti-corruption laws are on the books, in practice they’re often skirted or ignored…”

    Dem talking bout Barbados right?

“…People frequently face situations of bribery and extortion, rely on basic services that have been undermined by the misappropriation of funds, and confront official indifference when seeking redress from authorities that are on the take…”

And did is why de ole man promoting the emergence of the Third Party Movement and saying to you that both of these parties have outlived their shelf life and that we need a new direction WHERE MUGABE IS NOT IN OUR HOME AND NEITHER THE INCOMPETEMT DLP.

CREDIBILITY MUST BE SOUGHT ELSEWHERE THAN AMONGST THESE CRIMINALS!!!

The blogmaster invites you to join the discussion.
