In recent days we have have had controversial Minister of Environment making the news. He appears to have taken umbrage to the decision by the government to re-purpose the Sanitation Headquarters built under his watch. One wonders who is the person he alleged prevented the opening of the building.  It appears he has overcome health concerns.

Before Lowe’s sighting last weekend President Verla De Peiza gave the government a failing grade. One has to accept that the DLP membership in its infinite wisdom selected De Peiza to lead the party and supported the effort by electing Irene Sandiford-Garner the deputy. Should onlookers conclude that an emboldened Lowe will be followed by former colleagues? What will their mouthings do to compromise the DLP rebuild after the shellacking in the last general election?

The following snippet was sent to the blogmaster’s inbox reported to be written by Political Consultant Reudon Eversley – Do you agree with the author?

So Verla, the perennial electoral loser, is giving the Mottley
government a failing grade in its first 500 days. The comment is not a
surprise. It reflects a new aggressive negative politics of doom
coming out of George Street. However, the comment  speaks volumes of
how far the once great party  — now a fringe group since the last
general election — has slipped into lalaland in the last year and
half. Verla should be speaking instead about how successful she has
been in turning around the fortunes of the Dems who are growing more
and more frustrated and desperate under her ineffective leadership. By
this time next year, if current rumblings are anything to go by, she
may very well be political history because the patience of those
waiting in the corridors is running out. After the Dems brought
Barbados to its knees in the stagnant post David Thompson period
because of failed leadership and incompetence, there could be no
overnight miracles. The comeback will be gradual but I am satisfied
that the rehabilitation of Barbados, not just economically but on all
fronts, is well underway. Clear signs are there. Confidence, for
example, is back. The only people not seeing it are the  Dems in
blinkers. Miss Mottley has done an admirable job. She has led from in
front. She is the chief marketer of Barbados internationally — an
important task neglected by the Dems in the previous 8 years. Miss
Mottley is growing in stature and respect on the world stage and it
will redound to the benefit of Barbados. Look at the prestigious
speaking engagements she is getting. Look at the positive press she is
also getting internationally.  In the region, Barbados is being
respected again. Friends in the region who  used to call and lament
the drift they were seeing under the Dems are making the most
complimentary comments about Barbados’ leadership again. I am
politically independent. Since resigning from the Dems over five years
ago because I did not wish to align myself with political failures, I
belong to no political party. I am a political professional and my
views are non-partisan. However, I am supporting Miss Mottley because
I want the best for Barbados and the performance of the Dems in their
last stint in government shows beyond the shadow of a doubt that they
are not the best for Barbados.

And we must add…and neither any of their FAMILIES…that destructive nepotism that people have been complaining for years about is the BLIGHT that has driven the island to it’s knees….look at all these family members in this or that position who have to be provided for at taxpayer’s expense…then they all with their RAGGADY ASS SELVES act like they are entitled royalty…

    @ WARU

The article on Rat Brown should get it’s own blog BECAUSE IT DEALS WITH POLICE PRIVILEGE and how policemen can break the law with impunity

You may not know this but a former policeman from st lucy was selling guns, recently one shot a man in Bush Hall, and now Rat Brown travelling with a trafficable amount of munitions.

And he get bail AND A GAG ORDER IS ISSUED so Marston who ent does his job with decisions/judgements IS NOW PREDICATION PUN WHO IN BARBADOS CANN TALK BOUT A CASE where it is obvious someone who broke the law, is being given preferential treatment BECAUSE HE WAS A COP!

You would figure he would know the law right?

De ole man had published this item before but it ent get published

I wonder if the People’s Party for Democracy and Development, the PDP, the Party de ole man telling wunna now, GOING BE THE NEXT GOVERNMENT OF BARBADOS, I wonder how they would start to effect de Ole Man’s DELIVERABLES?

I mean, let us go through this logically

For the PDP to have a Portfolio of Deliverables THEY WOULD FIRST HAVE TO DECLARE & PUBLISH WHAT THEY PLAN TO DO RIGHT?

And once it is published THE BLP GOING TEIF IT!

AND AS MUGABE’S STYLE, TEIF IT AND SAY UM IS SHE OWN!

So how does the PDP keep that credit?

    By broadcasting their programs FIRST!

so, let de ole man explain dis to the PDP

1.Suppose wunna wanted to create a program that would employ 25 women from the inner city. Wunna would privately enroll 25 of dem AND INVITE ALL DE MEDIA HOUSES and speak to the cameras.

2.But before all of dat wunna would privately video wunna internal launch

3.So if wunna official opening is pun de 15, wunna would meet de 14 then and record everything and then do it again on the 15th.

4.Expect that CBC REPORTING LIES will not turn up but when they dont YOU WILL USE A SYNCHRONUZED PLATFORM TO BROADCAST YOUR MESSAGE ON THE OTHER MEDIA DE OLE MAN WILL SUGGEST

and you will do this 10 times WITH TEN DIFFERENT INITIATIVES!

So what will this do OTHER THAT MUGABE TEIFING YOUR TEN DIFFERENT INITIATIVES?

It will create a portfolio of your stolen accomplishments FOR WHICH YOU WERE FIRST TO RELEASE IN BARBADOS!

And then you will do a juxtaposition report of “yours” and the stolen property report.

Twenty stolen ideas, ALL ORIGINATING FROM YOU, THAT THE INEPT BLP COULD NOT DESIGN/DEPLOY, which you definitively show that de BLP teif, is not good for their image.

One you keep bajans informed of the thefts.

    OH, ONE CRITICAL THING.

Wunn got to appoint a PR person to be your Digital Manager TO COME ON FACEBOOK AND Barbados Underground TO CHAMPION YOUR CAUSE DAILY.

    MOMENTUM IS CRITICAL!!!

When I first read this submission de ole man wondered what was its purpose.

I mean, in a country with 3 valid political parties WHY WAS IT THAT ONLY ONE WAS BEING SINGLED OUT IN THE ROLL CALL FOR CREDIBILITY.

De ole man knew definitively that while a few of the sheeple knew the meaning of credible none of the sheeple did.

It was indeed like why only “my fellow myope” Dr. GP, was capable of viewing my remark about Cancer of the Pancreas and enlightening all readers, and me the writer, of the difficulty of operation on this organ that is just 14-20 cm long and weighs 100 grams.

“…The close proximity of the neck of the pancreas to major blood vessels posteriorly including the superior mesenteric artery, superior mesenteric-portal vein, inferior vena cava, and aorta limits the option for a wide surgical margin when pancreatectomy (surgical removal of the pancreas) is done…”

I went to read more, NOT TO GAINSAY WHAT MY FELLOW MYOPE SAID, but because what he said triggered my realization that I was truly unaware of the nature of this organ and was spouting 2nd hand information that was meaningless.

    LIKE THIS ARTICLE!

    What does “credible” mean?

    cred·i·ble (krĕd′ə-bəl) adj.

1.Capable of being believed; believable or plausible: a credible witness; a credible explanation.
2.Considered capable of achieving a goal: The party must nominate a credible candidate for governor.
3.Being of sufficient military capability to deter an attack or carry out an operation successfully: credible military force.

In one breath the Honourable Blogmaster will speak of how articles here ALWAYS SPILL INTO PARTISAN POLITICS yet in most every topic here, he is guilty of feeding the narrative as the readership count goes up.

Indeed what other purpose does comments from Reudon Eversley, former Political Strategist for the disbanded DLP serve than to relegate this topic WHICH IS ABOUT CREDIBILITY to the customary shy$e about DLP DO THIS AND BLP DO THAT?

Wunna see why de ole man always talking bout sheeple and people?

It’s because very few here can truly make serious commentary about any subject other than continue a thread IN THE DESIGNED AND PURPOSEFUL VEIN of the BLOGMASTER

  8. Piece the Legend Avatar

    @ the Honourable Blogmaster

Good morning to you. I have an item here about CREDIBILITY in suspense that needs assistance thank you

  9. Because a person is a political strategist or supporter of a political party it does not mean some of their messages or utterances may not me meaningful. Opposing for the sake of it is also not credible.

  10. Piece the Legend Avatar
    Piece the Legend

Neither the BLP NOR THE DLP HAS AN IOTA OF CREDIBILITY!!!

And de ole man will provide definitive proof for this assertion

For this I will seek “external data” more specifically data from Transparency International data.

Now it is noted that, while TI seeks to provide indices that reflect equitably on the 176 countries they monitor, they are quite quick to disclaim countries which do not provide verifiable data that reasonably inform their methodology

“…The Corruption Perceptions Index is a composite index, a combination of different international surveys and assessments of corruption, collected by a variety of reputable institutions.

The index draws on 13 surveys from independent institutions specialising in governance and business climate analysis covering expert assessments and views of businesspeople…”

In fact, one of the perennially constant themes of Corruption which sheds critical light on this customarily skewed topic of “credibility” is best seen in the following remarks.

“…”Narcotics-related corruption and associated arms trafficking, money-laundering and financial crime constitute a growing threat in the region,” said Dr Monroe.

“Political corruption in the context of ineffective procurement systems, completely unregulated political parties and ‘winner-takes-all’ majoritarianism, seriously undermines the quality of democratic governance…”

And therein lies what the true discussion of this Credibility topic should be focused on.

The real elements that comprise meaningful credibility and not this mickey mouse mother chucked shy$e talk that the Honourable Blogmaster is promoting IN EVERY OTHER BU article, like a clockwork mouse.

Then they complain about the BLP/DLP poochlicker commentary that ensues

Both governments consistently have propped up regime practices and administrative procedures that purposely teif from the treasury like a personal ATM MACHINE IN YOUR EFFING BEDROOM.

But of course, this type of discussion IS GOING TO BE MODERATED into a suspense box until 25 comments get appended and then added.

And this is why Barbados is at 46 murders!!

And will hit the 50 mark by year end!

  11. Piece the Legend Avatar

“…opposing for the sake of opposing…”

And therein lies the problem Honourable Blogmaster

You see me, rather 2/3rds of the blog sees me as “an opposer” SINE CAUSA!

so, while you accept that Abijah Holder was murdered by Mark Maloney ‘s illegal Coverley promontory, or Yugge Farrel was unfaired by The Ralph Gonzales cabal, or Nazzim Blackett was almost killed by the Royal Barbados Police Force…

While wunna accept that ALL THE TOPICS DE OLE MAN PROSECUTES AVIDLY are themselves deserving of a champion WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS IS THAT Piece the Legend is the person doin the championing

No, it’s not the fact that people are mentioning the huge inordinate salaries that are being paid to your friend? MUGABE but the fact that Piece the Legend HAS ALWAYS SAID THAT MUGABE WAS A THIEF…

AND THAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING IT FOR LONGGGGGGG!

So now today, you, LIKE YOUR COMPADRES ELSEWHERE are getting concerned that, whereas it was only Piece the Legend shouting in the RH wilderness ABOUT MUGABE being a RH despot now hundreds more are realizing that “MY CAUSE” IS TRUE.

So, until I am called home or until wunna death squads can do a Khashoggi pun de ole man I GINE CONTINUE TO OPPOSE FOR OPPOSING SAKE, until more RH bajans get a voice and start to mobilize against the rampant endemic disease of corruption and mendicancy THAT MUGABE MOTTLEY EMBODIES!!!

You have repeatedly drilled into the heads of BU readers and commenters that, as far as you are concerned, our only purpose in life is to sit and wait until you heap your scorn, insults, and derision upon us.

“…“Ahmadi Muslims, including myself, still hold great love for Pakistan and will always be at the forefront of serving their nation whenever it calls them,” he says…”

    Miller,
Let me pull you away from the maddening crowd and confabulate with you quietly.

Imagine that I am the PM of Wonderland (you and your snake called “Benwood Dick” are already acquainted with Alice, a famous resident, who is Greene’s sister. But that’s another story to be told another day) and I have 29 out of 30 seats. The opposition is made up of 1 person.

Next elections are due in 2023.

By the end of 2021, the 1-man opposition party is “keeping a lot of noise”, putting candidates in place, and making political accusations about wastage and corruption.
I decide that their wings must now be forever clipped. You and Bush Tea are on my backbench (oops, I don’t want to reveal your true identities, so let me call you Thorny and Edgy respectively for now) and it requires only two “breakaway” members from my party to form the new opposition. One of you (on your own volition. I have nothing to do with it) becomes the new opposition leader. No more funds from parliament will flow to the former opposition party, and by the time I call elections in 2023, it would have been suffocated financially and rather than win 18 seats, it would merely be thrashing about in its death throes..
You and Edgy will rejoin me as candidates in 2023 and we will move forward as a strong united team in 2023, looking to make Wonderland great again.

I am no politician, but if I can see the political numbers game as clearly as you can see John 3:16, don’t you think that a politician in real life would see it too?

    PS:
I notice that you are still up to your old tricks. I guess if you have been blessed with a talent, you have to use it.

Piece uh de cock yeah tight is thirsting and yearning for somebody to tell him that they would vote for his third party.

Piece uh de cock yeah tight,
Barbados is a small, vulnerable country with no meaningful amount of natural resources. Our destiny literally lies in the heart of our people. When judged by worldwide standards, we amount to a paltry 300,000 persons. Despite our small size, however, we can still earn a decent living in this global competitive world by efficiently utilizing the brain power that Barbadians seem to have been gifted with in abundance.

Envy, malice, and hatred are extreme negative feelings that can be manufactured and stored in our hearts. As we continue to feed these destructive forces, they become more and more corrosive and gnaw away at our insides like a cancer. Eventually, everything explodes in ad hominem attacks and acts of violence, and society is worse off.

BU readers get the opportunity to read Adrian Loveridge’s column every week.

Adrian does not claim to be the brightest. He does not claim to have all of the answers. He simply gives us his perspective on issues that impact our tourism industry and leaves us to express whatever opinions we hold on the issue under discussion. His submissions to BU have created no justification whatsoever for the scurrilous attack which you have launched on him. In actual fact, you should not be using BU to make any scurrilous or defamatory remark about an identified person whose reputation you can easily damage.

Donna, a blogger on BU, recently told me that I still have to try and reach those individuals who appear to be beyond redemption. Talking and discussing, not ordering, should form the basis of a solution, I remember her stressing. I have not ordered you to do anything. All I have done is to make you aware of the damaging effects of envy, hatred, and malice and I have attempted to show you how quickly these negative attributes can make you lash out and cause psychological or physical harm to people. Accepting that you are afflicted with these maladies is the first step leading towards healing.

If I mange to get you to think and reflect upon what I have just written for a few seconds, then the purpose of my writing (yes, I know that you view my writing as verbal diarrhea) would been well and truly served.

    NO!

  32. Piece the Legend Avatar

    @ walter the he Beatchhhh

You selectively shift through your mercurial “positions” here on Barbados Underground to suit your agenda which previously was to be a DLP candidate A PIPE DREAM THAT WAS DESTROYED

Today, as a disgruntled has been, WITHOUT ANY CREDIBILITY OR HOPE TO COME ONTO THE POLITICAL PLATFORM you have decided that your mission now is to oppose a Third Party Movement that is the only option Barbados has to establish “real credibility”

The point I made earlier AND I REPEAT BECAUSE YOU ARE A SIMPLE FELLOW, is that you, nor Adrian, both BU Golden boys, in the eyes of the Blogmaster, HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO PROMOTE AND FORM OF DIVERSIFICATION, even in your limited areas of engagement.

Deny here and now what you said about the giggling besties of those 12 year old girls AND FOR AS LONG AS YOU ARE ON BU I WILL NEVER PICK MY TEETS AT YOU AGAIN!

  33. Piece the Legend Avatar

    @ Donna,

Please, for the benefit of readers (be they peeple or sheeple) define what CREDIBILITY MEANS for 10 points.

And, once having done that, use your definition to establish if and how, the BLP is now, or has ever been CREDIBLE

The point that I would seek to make is that word seeks to selectively pigeon hole a political party purely on a definition that is poorly defined by comments of a previous Minister of The Environment juxtaposed against the Song of a Political Scientist now singing for his supper AT THE FEET OF A PARTY HE ONCE CASTIGATED!

Don’t be led down this BLP/DLP pendulum of fault assignation

It serves no purpose but cheapen the value of what BOTH PARTIES HAVE NEVER IMPLEMENTED during either’s time in power.

    They are both thieves

Once again I resort to the Transparency International 2019 report as I see to deepen this discussion on Credibility

“… Political integrity is lacking, especially around elections.

One in four citizens was offered bribes in exchange for votes in the past five years…”

I am not pulling a hood over people’s eyes in doing this blame game with the DLP as the pinata Donkey all I’m asking people to realise is that we are being channelled into a blood groove, like the channels of a katana, to say “”DLP NOT CREDIBLE, AND OTHER PARTIES, NOT CREDIBLE, BUT BLP CREDIBLE”

    Which is The Opposition Party?

Is the Opposition Party the defunct DLP?

Certainly it cant be them because THEY WERE BEATEN 30 TO ZERO.

A lil birdie tells me Mugabe is similarly mindful of de ole man’s prediction and has started the exercise of adding a few more voting constituencies heheheheh as a means to change up the numbers.

Could you clear up your story Walter P (where the p is no longer for PpK but paed….)

  35. Piece…wuhloss, things are happening..lol

Barbadians whose properties have been stolen by corrupt lawyers.

Nationals and non nationals are urged to write your complaints to:

  36. All dirty, all CORRUPT..that is all they will EVER BE…get rid of this last lot of parasites and thieves..

that fax is more than likely still in Miia’s big red bag of evidenece of DLP corruption…that she waived around pre and post election and must have lost and is now covering up…no arrests and no convictions of DLP thieves.

4 months behind on his rent before 2008 election, but 5 or 6 million dollars on his deceased mother’s bank account without her knowledge just a couple years after elections..that his siblings had to sue to get their share, as everyone talked about and still do..

with ministerial salaries at 17 thousand a month ..even 10 years later his salary would still be just 2 million plus, he would have had to spend decades in the parliament as a minister to realize 5 or 6 million in salary…

    “Sad To Say
    December 19, 2008 at 9:54 pm
How could Dennis Lowe, a man who was four months behind on his rent up to the 1st February 2008 expected to be honest?

    Would someone ask Dr. Lowe:
    1. Why is it that so many on the members of his branch members stopped coming to meetings or just left and gone over to Boyce and Jones
    2. Why are all the young girls in his constituency complaing that all he is interested in is one thing when it comes to them
    3. Does he know how many people have copies of his Fax other than the contractor and Mottley

Dennis Lowe does not have the organizational skills to run his own life therefore how is he expected run a ministry.”

  37. Warm and sincere greetings to every Barbadian, no matter where you are.

Slight chill in my neck of the woods, slightly overcast, leaves on the ground and grass needs cutting. But yet I have a chance to walk with those who read and understood, those who read and did not understand and those who read just to comment..

Whatever is your style, do it with flair and un-apologetically.

    Have a Great Day Barbados

  38. https://barbadostoday.bb/2019/10/19/the-uwi-climbs-to-top-four-per-cent/

This is a much better written article as it shows the writer knows the the difference between 5 and 5 percent.

I would consider this as a correction to the earlier article.

You say nitpicking.. I say proofreaders

  39. Awaiting to see an article on the debt repayment plan between govt and external creditors
    Heard Jeremy Stephens comments/ opinion
Nothing much said on govt plans for repaying the debt
Losts of money in reserves all adds up to a plus but results in a minus on cause of borrowing which must be paid back
    With global economies fickled
It begs the question how much longer can barbados rely on a one nest basket when the dark days of global economy hits our doorsteps
One would think all would have learned from the past of 2008 and be in preparation mode

  40. I am no lawyer, economist or accountant (comment from the peanut gallery “I already knew that 🙂 )
Additional comment… “And you don’t understand half of what you read”

I found comments on the agreement between Barbados and the external creditors to be on the light side. With the exception of two home based fellows, there was a lot of hand waving, use of a few big words ad no additional information. I will not mention the names of the two gentlemen.

Anyhow let me try to decipher the language of some of the article, so that the big brains can correct me. Without my flawed statements the big brains are useless. Note that there is no BS or big words and the directness of the translation

    https://barbadostoday.bb/2019/10/18/debtors-strike-deal/

“In the end, the loss to external creditors appears to be relatively comparable to the loss to domestic creditors. After a much tougher negotiation, external creditors seem to have got themselves a slightly better deal,” he said, explaining that while most domestic creditors will receive their full principal over a longer repayment period, external creditors will receive a fraction of their full principal over a shorter period (Quote)

**Last sentence: External creditors have decided to tek wha they can really can get then run out of Dodge City as quick as they can.

The new bonds will also have a “natural disaster clause” that would, subject to certain conditions and input from the bondholders, enable Government to “capitalize interest and defer principal maturities due on the new bonds for two years” in the event that Barbados is adversely affected by natural disasters.(Quote).

****”Adversely affected by a disaster” could mean anything. More information needed.

There would also be a clause providing for the reinstatement of forgiven principal and past due and accrued interest if Government defaults on payment before the successful completion of the ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme. (Quote)

***Not certain what is being said here. If the current solution does not work out, then we would go back to where we were to start with…

  41. What is stated in the article is very clear. There was no real negotiation with domestic bond holders therefore it goes without saying external creditors would have positioned to get a better deal. Bear in mind we are discussing hard currency versus Monopoly money.

  42. Pure corruption, over and over against the people by 2 greedy governments…spewing the SAME LIES at the people each and every election cycle..and still plan to continue…

“Cowardly pee-in-pants Barbados Nation Newspaper hides name of corrupt Government Minister
When a Government Minister’s husband is awarded a $300,000 contract for work he has no experience doing – That’s Corrupt!

Cecil McDowald “Asbestos removal? Sure, I done lots of that before!”

The current DLP Government says it is taking steps to sue the husband of a former Minister in the previous Arthur/Mottley BLP government – over the non-fulfillment of a 2004 government contract for the removal of asbestos roofing from government units.

Naturally, the BLP Government Minister’s husband was paid $300,000 of your tax dollars despite complaints of shoddy work.

Some will hail this move by the DLP Thompson Government as some sort of great milestone or victory for integrity in government. Some will say this proves the current Thompson DLP government is serious about fighting corruption.

    Ha! Not so fast, children!

It’s all a sham for the purposes of political publicity and we can prove it – so read on.

Nothing will really happen, so don’t get your hopes up. This is not some fundamental change in the behaviour of government. It’s more of the same politics that we’ve heard all along from the Thompson government. “Going to do” this. “Going to do” that. “Thinking about” this or that. But real change or real action about government corruption? Nada. Nothing. Zip. Zilch.

Don’t forget friends – this is the same David Thompson who waved around a “campaign donation” cheque made out personally to then Prime Minister Owen Arthur and corruptly deposited into Arthur’s PERSONAL bank account. In the end, Thompson did nothing about that because the DLP and the BLP have a gentleman’s agreement that only harsh words will be spoken. Nobody will be charged with any offense because the DLP don’t want the same treatment when they are once again in Opposition.

And you can take that to the bank, friends… after all, Owen Arthur did!”

  43. Sounds familiar right..Mia waving around a big red bag full of evidence of DLP corruption…

“The current story about BLP Government Minister of Housing, Lands and the Environment Liz Thompson and her contractor husband Cecil McDowald is actually old news that was known as far back as 2005 when the DLP (then in Opposition) made a big deal about it. The papers covered the story and the DLP Opposition knew the details back then.

So why did it take until now to announce “GOVERNMENT HAS instructed its attorneys to pursue all legal means to recover about $300 000 paid to the company of a private contractor and husband of a former government minister for work done at Kensington Lodge, St Michael, five years ago…” ??? (Nation News: Govt wants money back)

That’s simple, my friends. The government strategically held off and then played the issue like a surprise in a card game. Note the government doesn’t say it has filed a lawsuit, or actually DONE anything. The government announced it had “instructed attorneys”. OH…. Why didn’t it happen back in January of 2008? Why now?

The answer is: The DLP government is announcing this now because it is convenient for them to do so. They undoubtedly have all kinds of dirt tucked away that will be released when it is politically expedient. Nothing will happen, but it sure gets people talking for a month or two! Then… it will fade away just like all the other dirt that the government discloses but does nothing about.

Gosh the Thompson DLP government thinks everybody is stupid – just like the Arthur/Mottley government thought too.

And the worst part of it is that even today the yellow-bellied-pee-in-their-own-pants editors at The Nation don’t dare to print the name of the former BLP Government Minister whose lover of four years and soon to be husband was CORRUPTLY awarded the government contract in 2004.

As our friend over at Living in Barbados blog says “Does it look like a piece of rotten fish? Does it look like ‘business as usual?” Ha! The answer “yes to both observations”.

Here are a few quick thoughts about this story that is an indictment of the two major political parties and the Barbados news media…

    – It was not illegal for Minister Thompson’s spouse to receive big government contracts back in 2004/2005. There was no law against this, and there still isn’t.

    – Back in 2004/2005, it was not illegal for the Barbados Government to arbitrarily award fat government contracts without due process or transparency. If a Government Minister’s husband put in the highest bid and it was accepted… so what? It’s corrupt and immoral, yes – but not illegal. That is still the case today that no law prohibits such activity by Government Ministers and civil servants or their families.

    – The current DLP Government said they would introduce a Ministerial Code and Conflict of Interest standards IMMEDIATELY upon taking office in January 2008. They lied to get your vote. Get over it.

    – Minister of Housing and Lands Michael Lashley told the papers yesterday that “there were several grey areas in the entire saga, including the manner in which the company was awarded the contract in the first place. He said the company had the highest bid, was not even on the Environmental Engineering Division’s list of preferred contractors for the removal of asbestos roofing, and had no history of dealing with such specialised work.”

    – Minister Lashley knows very well that no laws were broken because there are no laws. He knows that his government has failed to put integrity legislation and conflicts of interest standards in place just like the BLP.

    – So any potential court case is simply about the quality of the work… and five years later, good luck taking that to trial. I guarantee that no photographs or evidence gathering was done at the time by the BLP against Liz Thompson’s husband, so Lashley can forget about a win in court.

Besides, the Chief Justice of Barbados, David Cathcart Simmons, is an old friend and fellow Cabinet Minister with Liz Thompson! Cha! For a whole lot of reasons, this case against Liz Thompson’s husband is going to go nowhere fast and Minister Lashley knows that full well.

It’s all a show, my friends. Just a scam.

To the Cowardly Nation News Editors”

  44. The focus here is on the DLP and its credibility. We must ensure that the beast stays dead and buried. The slaying of the living beast is a task for another blog. There will be, I’m sure, many opportunities for that.

  45. And as if the above was not BAD enuff…more corruption by BOTH governments..will Bajans continue to allow corrupt politicans to tell them the SAME LIES AGAIN next election..

    https://barbadosfreepress.wordpress.com/2008/09/22/barbados-prime-minister-thompson-confirms-previous-government-officials-millions-stashed-millions-in-foreign-bank-accounts/

  46. Many, many decades people have been crying out, longer than i can even remember understanding what was going on in this pit of black faced VIPERS…too many people were victimized…..AND STILL ARE.

“How long must ordinary Bajans put up with corrupt politicians compulsorily acquiring private lands – to be converted into private profits for the political elites and their friends?

Every Bajan has seen or heard about this before – sometimes involving family, friends or old Aunties. Mostly we keep our mouths shut.

We keep our mouths shut because we know how it is ’bout hey. We know that there is no place to go, and we have to spend the next 70 years on this little island, God willing. Better not to cross the powerful political and financial elites who can have all your family sacked from their jobs over a few months with a word here and there.

Yes, it’s that bad on any of these small islands, including Bim. The outside world over and away in the UK and the USA don’t know the truth about living here.

Denis Kellman has been after widow’s land since 1996.
Denis Kellman has been after widow’s land since 1996 “for the public interest”

Politicians get into power and then they start hunting around for victims. Widows are always high on the hit list. Better if they are money poor and land rich with any adult children living over and away. Usually involves land that was once valuable in crops or far from the city but not worth too much these days unless… unless…

… unless the building permissions are changed by the government. Then scrub land becomes worth gold… but it never happens in the widow’s hands. Never. Never ever. Never.

So the government ‘compulsorily acquires’ the land for some “really important national purpose…” but maybe after the government owns the land for a few years, development doesn’t happen. Budget problems, ya see! So the government sells the land to private interests and sometimes for less than the purchase price.”?

  47. Piece the Legend Avatar
    Piece the Legend

once again de ole man is going back tot the 2019 Transparency International report to give again another perspective on this Lack of Credibility that has only be accredited to the Democratic Labour Party

the report, in speaking to the 7 most prevalent findings of Corruption across the region and the 17,000 respondents said and I quote

“Bribery is a regular occurrence for many More than one in five citizens who accessed public services, such as health care and education, paid a bribe in the previous year….”

in fact Pornville Inniss AS HIS DEFENCE IN HIS MONEY LAUNDERING CASE actually relied on such a defence to say that teifing government money was the norm and therefore he was to be let off!

imagine that a former minister uses this as his defence

and just to confirm this lack of credibility on both sides of the BDLP coin here is a picture that all of you can identify with.

  48. THIEFING FROM THE PEOPLE TO COLLAPSE THE ECONOMY….well done, yall must be proud..

TIEFING FROM THE PEOPLE….to enrich minority parasites and themselves…anf that is EXACTLY what both CORRUPT governments did……what credibility what…

    https://www.facebook.com/100005986451739/posts/1144309799111891/

“Newspaper reports say the Government of Barbados is about to take your pension money from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and loan it give it to the developers of the collapsed Four Seasons project. (Nation report here)

The $60 million dollar “investment” is necessary because no further private money wants to “invest” in the project.

Why don’t private investors want a piece of a project that Finance Minister Sinckler says will yield “massive returns”?

The answer is simple: Private money wants nothing more to do with the project because they believe it is not a viable investment.

Private investors examined the risks, possible profits, projected revenues, tourism projections, project management, and the likelihood of success or failure and determined that only fools would continue to “invest” in the collapsed Four Seasons boondoggle.

    “To whom the benefit?”

When Finance Minister Sinckler makes the official announcement later this week, he will talk about the construction jobs and future employment prospects of a re-started Four Seasons project. He will talk about the fact that Barbados government money is already into the project and that we risk that “investment” if we don’t put in more. “In for a penny, in for hundreds of millions” is apparently the motto of the Sinckler government.

(I’d say “Stuart government”, but there’s no proof that Stuart has been running the government up to now, and as for next week, who knows?)

The one thing that Mr. Sinckler will NOT talk about is conflicts of interest. He will not name the investors who are at risk, and who will benefit from the gift of public money. He and his fellow MPs will not declare if they or their close family members have anything to do with the project: as investors, suppliers, contractors, creditors or in any way will benefit from the bailout using your pension funds.”
