Altruistic China?

The following article is reproduced from the Canadian press at the request of Money Brain. Is China as altruistic as some would have us believe?

Across the globe, especially in the great motherland Africa, there are horror stories being recorded about this new marauding. What insights are there to be learned by impoverished states of the Caribbean? Besides fueling our greed for ‘things’ what other factors determine regional foreign policy with China?

When it comes to defending Canada from the menace posed by the People’s Republic of China, it is now a matter of public record, and should be a matter of some embarrassment to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, if not shame, that the course his government embarked upon almost four years ago was dangerously naive, if not recklessly thoughtless.

It’s a tragedy that it took the Chinese Ministry of State Security’s kidnapping of former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig and cultural entrepreneur Michael Spavor to prove that the Beijing regime was not the “win-win, golden decade” friend and trade partner Trudeau had incessantly harped about. Robert Schellenberg, dubiously convicted on drug-smuggling charges in the first place, had his 15-year jail sentence upgraded to a cell on death row. Canada’s canola exporters are stuck with $2.7 billion in export contracts that Beijing has ripped up. Threats of further punishment hang in the air.

It’s all because Canada detained Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou last December on a U.S. Justice Department extradition warrant. Meng is sought by the U.S. to face charges of fraud and dodging sanctions on Iran. Beijing needed to throw somebody up against a wall and slap him around, so President Xi Jinping chose Justin Trudeau.

Beijing’s complex campaigns of subversion, threats, influence-buying, bullying and espionage in Canada stretch back much farther than last December, of course. So does the sleazy tendency of Canadian politicians to look the other way, or rush to Beijing’s defence whenever anyone in the intelligence community publicly notices the obvious, or throw the director of the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service under the bus for pointing it out.

Beijing needed to throw somebody up against a wall and slap him around, so President Xi Jinping chose Justin Trudeau.

When CSIS director Richard Fadden had the temerity to point out nearly a decade ago that there were provincial cabinet ministers and other elected officials in Canada who had fallen under Beijing’s general influence, several Liberal and NDP MPs demanded his resignation.

So it was refreshing to see that Tuesday’s first-ever annual report from the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) made no bones about it. China is a threat to Canada’s national security, the committee found.

Terrorism, espionage and foreign influence, cyber threats, major organized crime and weapons of mass destruction were all listed in the NSICOP report among the top threats to Canada. China figures in the report’s findings under espionage and foreign influence, and under cyber threats as well.

Russia is right up there, too, and although the report is redacted in several places, other unnamed governments were reported to be busy with the same dirty work. But it was the novelty of China being singled out for once, in a high-level federal government intelligence report, that’s worth noticing. Usually, Ottawa lets China get away with anything.

“China is known globally for its efforts to influence Chinese communities and the politics of other countries. The Chinese government has a number of official organizations that try to influence Chinese communities and politicians to adopt pro-China positions, most prominently the United Front Work Department,” the report states, referring directly to Fadden’s whistleblowing in 2010.

The report also notes a 2017 warning from David Mulroney, a former ambassador to China, about Beijing’s influence-peddling efforts in Canada. To get what it wants, Beijing mobilizes student groups, diaspora groups, “and people who have an economic stake in China, to work behind the scenes.” The report also notes the unsavoury business of lavish political donations on offer from Chinese businessmen with close links to China’s Communist Party leadership.

Report by the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians

Two years ago, the Financial Times obtained the United Front Work Department’s training manual, which boasts about the electoral successes of 10 pro-Beijing politicians in Ontario. “We should aim to work with those individuals and groups that are at a relatively high level, operate within the mainstream of society and have prospects for advancement,” the manual states.

The reason for the public’s relative inattention to influence-and-espionage threats posed by such foreign powers as China and Russia is that the federal government tends to avoid addressing the issue publicly. “As it stands now, an interested Canadian would have to search a number of government websites to understand the most significant threats to Canada,” the committee found.

“For some threats, such as terrorism, information is readily available and regularly updated . … For other threats, such as organized crime or interference in Canadian politics, information is often limited, scattered among different sources or incomplete. The committee believes that Canadians would be equally well served if more information about threats were readily available.”

That information is available, of course. It just hasn’t been coming from the federal government. In his just-published book, Claws of the Panda: Beijing’s Campaign of Influence and Intimidation in Canada, veteran foreign-affairs reporter Jonathan Manthorpe painstakingly enumerates the breadth and scope of the United Front Work Department’s organizations in Canada, and Beijing’s intimate links throughout Canada’s business class. Manthorpe relied solely on the public record, showing that Beijing’s strong-arming, its inducements and its subtle and not-so-subtle intimidation have been carried out in plain sight for years.

Last year, a coalition of diaspora groups led by Amnesty International provided CSIS with an exhaustive account of Beijing’s intensive campaign of bullying, threats and harassment targeting Canadian diaspora organizations devoted to Chinese democracy, the Falun Gong spiritual movement, Tibetan sovereignty, and the Uighurs. A Muslim ethnic minority in Xinjiang, the Uighur people are currently being subjected to an overwhelming tyranny of concentration camps, religious persecution, “re-education,” family separation and round-the-clock, pervasive surveillance. “Canada has become a battleground on which the Chinese Communist Party seeks to terrorize, humiliate and neuter its opponents,” says Manthorpe.

Canada has become a battleground on which the Chinese Communist Party seeks to terrorize, humiliate and neuter its opponents

Authur Jonathan Manthorpe

That kind of subversion usually occurs behind the scenes. But for years, Confucius Institutes have operated openly in dozens of Canadian universities, colleges and high schools. “In most cases,” Manthorpe contends, “they are espionage outstations for Chinese embassies and consulates through which they control Chinese students, gather information on perceived enemies and intimidate dissidents.”

Because its mandate covers more than a dozen institutions and agencies, NSICOP — first proposed 15 years ago, but only now getting off the ground — had a lot of ground to cover. More than half of the report’s 121 pages are devoted to a review of the intelligence functions of the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces. But it’s subversion by foreign governments that seems to have caught the Parliamentary committee’s attention — CSIS told NSICOP the foreign-influence threat is becoming more acute, and countering it will call for “a more significant response” in the coming years.

With that in mind, the committee is already working on a followup review of the mandate, priority and resources Ottawa provides Canada’s intelligence community to monitor and counter the foreign-influence threat. The committee’s report is expected to be released before the October federal election, but it won’t be focused on the foreign cyber threats Ottawa is already preparing to monitor and expose during the election campaign.

“We’re going to outline the primary-threat actors, we’re going to be examining the threat those actors pose to our institutions and, to a certain extent, our ethno-cultural communities,” NSICOP chair David McGuinty told reporters in Ottawa on Tuesday. “We’re working feverishly to get it done.”

About time, too.

  • If people believe that China is doing these acts out of the kindness for humankind, they are really naïve. Up to the end of the 1700’s China was the world leader in terms of GDP and so on and looked down on outsiders as Barbarians, The latter sentiment has not changed. Chinese always refer to their five -thousand years of continuous history as a civilization.. They have resented the fact that they have not contributed to the technological advances made by western civilization to the progress of humankind. This accounts for the fact that although they haven’t invented 5G or the 3Dnano-microscope,they hope to build the largest 5G network and have built the largest 3D microscope in the world. This facet also explains the need to land on the opposite side of the moon. Like any major power, China is going to put its interests first.

There has never been anything ‘altruistic’ about empire whether that has been Kemetic, British, American, Persian, French. This article is deeply predicated on a misnomer.

The truth is that the Americans are facing increasing pressures to maintain empire are are prepared to do all manner of ‘foolishness’ to try to so do.

It certainly does not help when you have a Hitler, a Commodus, a Nero, a Caligula in the White House like Donald Trump. If he is not less than composmentis, or a mad man, if he is in charge at all, are questions which should have been long asked.

More broadly Whiteness throughout the world is facing the end-stage. These are the forces that that idiot seeks to respond to.

It was never important to the West, the White world, when African and other countries of the South were being underdeveloped. Enter China, and all of a sudden there has been a scramble for former colonial possessions.

The West, America in particular, for Canada is merely a vassal state, has recently discovered that the Chinese 5G and other technologies for military and civilian applications will spark a revolution which will displaced and deem all others archaic.

With 5G, what most people do not understand is that 5G is not just a new model of phone. It requires news undersea lines, which the Chinese have laid thousands of miles of, new infrastructures. And the leading American companies are lightyears behind the Chinese.

This is what these so-called trade negotiations were/are about. Essentially the Americans want the Chinese not to revolutionize tech, and are threatening sanctions, kidnapping Chinese tech executives, etc

This writer has done business with the Chinese. We know that they are as ruthless as can be. But how are their many negative traits any different than the fuckers who have ruled this world for 2000 years. Let the games of thrones continue.

  • The memory of China’s 19th century humiliation by the West when the Brits fought two Opium Wars with China to prevent Chinese authorities from clamping down on British drug dealers importing copious quantities of opium into China is still thought by some to influence China’s attitude to the West and to its policies on foreign relations and national security. Once the more numerous but weaker Chinese forces of the Chinese emperor were soundly defeated by the British forces, the Chinese had to submit to what they saw as a further humiliation – the demands by the Western powers to open up China to foreign trade. In those days, like today, “trade” is sometimes an euphemism for exploitation of weaker countries by more powerful ones..

Modern China and the legacy of the Opium Wars
By Monique Ross and Annabelle Quince

The Opium Wars were a pivotal — and humiliating — juncture in China’s history.

The two armed conflicts, waged over sovereignty, trade and opium almost 180 years ago, pit the richest empire on the planet against Britain.

The result for China was catastrophic.

It lost its standing as the most powerful force in Asia, and its economic wealth. It was opened to Western influence, and all but carved up by foreign powers.

“That page of Chinese history was one of humiliation and sorrow,” China’s president Xi Jinping said in 2017.

Experts say the legacy of the wars continues to influence China’s foreign policies, and its desire to reunite all former Chinese territories, including Taiwan.

So to really understand modern China, you have to start with the Opium Wars.

I have said and will repeat on the world stage in this play that we have a role to play; what exactly is our role? Have we dared to read the entire script and see how it end or what is the end for our character we are portraying?

“Infrastructure projects create jobs, provide an opportunity for skills development and the transfer of new technologies.

“However, these firms come under the guise of partnership, but this rhetoric, combined with genuine short term benefits masks longer term problems.”

One of the main issues around the Chinese approach is the dangerously high levels of debt that it brings, which could prove unsustainable for growing economies.

There is also a risk that the continent becomes overly dependent on one country, which could allow it to hold an uncomfortably high level of influence.

Mr Yousuf said: “China is seeking to present itself as the new face of globalisation, an image it will work hard to portray at this week’s Belt and Road summit.

“The problem with this is that the current model of their ‘globalisation’ doesn’t so much encourage increased interaction between nations on a worldwide scale, as increased interaction with China on a worldwide scale.

It amazes me that persons continue to under estimate Trump. The main stream media peddle the song for two years about collusion with Russia. Anyone with a modicum of common sense would have realized it was .bs. There has been no obstruction either. Trump is in charge and he could fire Mueller or Comey nothing could be done about it. I have been saying so for a long time. All Trump did was to talk about firing people but he didn’t. He ended up doing as his advisors indicated. No crime was committed. Trump is an outsider and that is the reason he has been subjected to the unconstitutional coup attempt. You don’t have to like the man to realize from day one there was talk about impeachment and that what went down was an attempted coup. Clinton was a poor candidate. The list of Islamic countries that were proscribed was Obama’s selection. All Trump did was to enact Obama’s list;but no one wants to talk about that.

A critical read of Williams, James, Best will prove your position wrong. You really cannot place Williams in the Barrow category. Barrow never used his intellectual prowess like Williams or James.
David is correct about a vacuum of leadership. Unfortunately, you are still failing to understand the emerging Caribbean civilization beyond what you were taught.
In a very ironic way, you have brought the colonial view of the Caribbean that was sold to us by our former masters.
Williams and Best have clinically analysed the colonial era and had made great effort to systematically dismantle it.
David is therefore correct that no outstanding leadership has emerged since. I go further and state that our generation is one of dangerous contradictions. We are as trapped in our thinking as those we were supposed to lead but failed to act.
These days we spend most of our time as intellectual spectators when it comes to so called world affairs, which you correctly posit, is just an extension of Eurocentric rule .

China Cracks Down on Christianity by Demolishing Churches, Confiscating Bibles

The ruling party in China is attempting to increase their control over religious freedom in the country, most recently by taking a crackdown on Christianity.

In the country’s province of Henan, which has one of the largest Christian populations in China, churches were raided and demolished, Bibles and holy books were confiscated and new laws were established to monitor religious activities.

One Christian named Guo described an incident in which Chinese officials interrupted a church meeting and told everyone to leave. They then ordered church leaders to remove a cross, a Bible verse and a painting of the Last Supper off the wall. Guo didn’t give his full name out of fear of government repercussions.

“I’ve always prayed for our country’s leaders, for our country to get stronger,” he told AP. “They were never this severe before, not since I started going to church in the 80’s. Why are they telling us to stop now?”

The intensity of the government crackdowns have increased in recent months. Just this year, they have shut down hundreds of Christian house churches, seized Bibles and forced e-commerce retailers to stop selling Bibles, prevented children from attending church in some areas, urged Christians in one location to replace posters of Jesus with pictures of President Xi Jinping, and raided church meetings and interrogated hundreds of Christians from one congregation.

To avoid becoming targets in the government campaign, many congregations are meeting in smaller groups in person and online.

“We are trying to look more like a family that are here to chat and drink tea so no one will report us to the police,” Enoch, a 22-year-old Christian in southern China, said.

“I’m really afraid it will be shut down one day,” said Enoch, who converted to Christianity three years ago. “At the state church, I felt like I was listening to a lecture. But at the family church, people know about each other and love each other.”

According to the Associated Press, experts said President Xi is “waging the most severe systematic suppression of Christianity in the country since religious freedom was written into the Chinese constitution in 1982.”

If yuh aint married already, uh gine dance at yuh wedding!

There are few issues on which we have disagreed, and maybe continue to

However, when it comes in insightfulness you are by far the sharpest tool in many a box.

Our truth is that Trump is the best president of the USA. For he has done more to destroy a dying empire that many previously. This should be a time for all the world to rejoice.

So the kinds of hatred that some would like to ascribed to us for Trump is wholly misguided. Of course, that does not mean that our biting critiques of him will cease anytime soon. Even Obama feared no better with our pen.

We marvel at how some of Trumps acolytes here like Robert Lucas could make pronouncement about the Mueller Report, having not read of course. They argue that there was no collusion, meaning no conspiracy. That there was no obstruction of justice.

Well, anybody who knows how federal investigations work would be aware that anytime a government has the kinds of resources the FBI possesses it could indict a ham sandwich. Meaning that as high as 98 % of all federal prosecutions end in convictions.

In any event Mueller did NOT make the determinations that Trump’s supporters here claim. Trump was saying that the report exonerated him long before the redacted document saw daylight.

While saying there was no conspiracy with Trump and Russia he left open the idea that others within the Trump Campaign, Inauguration Committee, etc could have ‘colluded’.

Mueller did not say definitively that there was no obstruction of justice either.

Our reading seems to indicate, to this non-lawyer, that Mueller punted the darn thing to a feckless Congress.

Then there are blandishment that Trump could fire whoever he wanted. Well, this position flies into the face of legal precedent. We cite the cases against Nixon. In the same way Trump cannot talk or plot to kill American citizens, talking about firing people because they are investigating you seems at odds with law.

Yes, you are quite right, when you say that certain deep-state forces have worked from the very beginning to rid themselves of Trump but we see no difference between these partisans. To us it’s just one set of elites fighting against the next. We have no dog in that fight. Least of which was the FBI as an historical suppressor of Afrikan peoples.

“Look Everyone entitles to their Beliefs even China But realistically and economically speaking just like America…China understands what is power and that Power controls…Christianity and China does not mix”

The Difference between America and China is that America believes in Freedom and Liberty of the individual while China is Authoritarian in its Philosophy, i.e. Controlling and Restricting individual Liberty …Here lays the difference.

Freedom is not only reflected in America’s Religious beliefs but is the foundation of their Economic Principles. What has allowed China to prosper is to have allowed more Capitalist Policies, but when they create more restrictions they revert to their old ways…

Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than all other Systems combined. To the extent a Society is Capitalist, people live in wealth, Freedom, and Dignity. In Stark Contrast, Communism has been Inflicted on Hundreds of millions of people, and has never produced anything but Poverty, Slavery and Genocide. Socialism is the Path through Mediocrity to Communism. Those who Work have the Wealth they Create Confiscated at Gun point, but those who don’t work get money for nothing …Until the Transition through Socialism to Full Blown Communism is Completed. Then if you Don’t Work they Kill You!

What do you think the Adversary’s Ideology is…. Its Dogma Morphs from time to time changing names to suit the times…Communism/Marxism/Nazism/Progressivism/Leftism/Radical Islamism, all part of the same tree and root Aimed at taking away the Free Agency of man which is the opposite to the Spirit of Freedom and Liberty that is of Christ, 2nd Corinthians 3: 19.

Socialism never, ever works, it Impoverishes, Dehumanizes and Kills people. Socialist Never Learn from History. They Say They Are All Different… Communism/Leninism, Stalin-ism/ Maoism/Leftism/Progressive-ism or “Democratic Socialism”, They Aren’t,… Names Only Change to Suit the Times!

“The Goal of Socialism is Communism”. Vladimir Lenin. Until We Get This Straight we will always be beguiled…. “Socialism is Atheism Masquerading as Political Philosophy”.

  • Mueller report should read: ‘Trump attempted to obstruct our coup’

The special counsel Robert Mueller’s 400-page report would have been more accurate if he had openly lamented President Trump’s attempt to obstruct a silent “coup.”

Hhundreds of pages were not needed to explain the details of an investigation that concluded with zero criminal charges against the president.

The lengthy report exist primarily to fuel biased media attacks against Mr. Trump.

“This wasn’t an investigation,” “It was an attempt at a coup. It was an attempt to throw Donald Trump out of office and nullify the election results of 2016. It was disguised as an investigation.”

The report “recounts everything you’ve read in the New York Times and the Washington Post about collusion before concluding there wasn’t any! It’s made to order for people who want to continue running this operation to get rid of Trump. … The report itself says there was no collusion.”

Journalists will now opine on Mr. Trump’s motivations and whom he could have fired — but didn’t.

“You’re unable to conclude that no criminal conduct — then what the hell are you writing 400 pages for?” he asked. “You don’t do this to people you’re attempting to prosecute. You find nothing on ‘em and then submit a 400-page report about it? That isn’t done except in this case.”

“How about looking at it from Trump’s perspective?”
“He knows he’s being set up here. … What would you do in this circumstance?”

“This report reads, in fact, as if Trump was supposed to cooperate in his own obstruction. And because he didn’t, he’s guilty of obstruction. ‘Donald Trump attempted to obstruct our coup,’ is how this should read. ‘Donald Trump attempted to obstruct our effort to throw him out of office,’ is how this report should read,” he concluded.

Mariposa you are a Socialist to Di Bone…

“Socialism is a Philosophy of Failure, the Creed of Ignorance, and the Gospel of Envy, its Inherent Virtue is the Equal Sharing of Misery”. –Winston Churchill”

Some have their Nuts a Bit Twisted…

Firstly Socialism is a Highly Authoritarian Creed based on Envy and Class Warfare.

So it seeks to extort as much money as possible from those who have worked hard and been successful and from businesses that have succeeded by looking after their customers. The maximum that they can extort is never enough to support their dogma so they borrow even more, with no plan or intention of ever paying back.

Socialists are so venal and nasty that they will enforce extortionate tax rates on successful people, to punish them, even when they know that this will bring in less government revenue. Labour in the 1970s had a top rate of income tax of 98%.

Socialism exercises its authoritarianism by the government seeking to control everything in society. The state owns you and everyone else and issues vast number of commands that you must obey. Socialists in government think that they know better than the people themselves do about absolutely everything.

Socialism wastes money by throwing it at the indolent and feckless who have not succeeded so as to ensure their votes. It thinks it knows more about business than businessmen so wastes unbelievable amounts of money. From the 1946 Groundnut Scheme, through British Leyland and British Steel to Gordon Brown’s “rescue” of the banks. So in the end they always run out of other people’s money.

Extortion, envy, authoritarianism and waste has its consequences:

It destroys the quality of life of everyone in the country. As when Attlee extended wartime rationing to potatoes and bread and turned off the electricity. As when Gordon Brown trashed the British economy with his fiscal incontinence. As in Cuba where most people live in poverty in what was once a rich country. As in oil rich Venezuela where the shelves in the shops are bare even of basic necessities.

By punishing success and rewarding failure the results are always inevitable.

  • Here’s what we know.

Mueller turns over his report to William Barr.

rudy Giuliani states that they are ready with a 35 page rebuttal to the report that they ‘haven’t seen’. (Go figure!)

William Barr releases his summary, declares that Trump is in the clear. ” No collusion! No collusion! No collusion! No collusion! No collusion! No collusion” (Collusion is not a legal term and Barr is the ATTORNEY GENERAL. The term is criminal conspiracy. Mueller actually says he could not find any evidence of a criminal conspiracy but there sure were a whole lot of suspicious meetings with Russians. (Over 100, including one where Manafort handed over polling data to a Russian oligarch. Translation – he couldn’t find the smoking gun but there was plenty of smoke) Barr actually tells a little truth in saying that Mueller found that he could not exonerate Trump on obstruction of justice. (Because he thinks he could later make plausible excuses for that)

Trump takes a victory lap and declares himself ” totally exonerated” by the report. Mueller, he says, had been fair and is an honorable man.

Trump and his White House lawyers are briefed comprehensively on the report by the Justice Department days before the report is released. They maintain that they are not at all worried since the report totally exonerates Trump.

Barr holds a press conference where he attempts to spin the report and excuse the President’s clumsy cover up by saying he was understandably frustrated with the witch hunt. The cover up attempts were not denied by Barr. He just excused them.

The report comes out. People who can read (including many at Fox News) read it. Daytime Fox acknowledges inconsistencies between Barr’s spin and the actual report. ( I was deliberately watching Fox and it was not just Shep Smith and Chris Wallace.or even Brett Bauer) By night-time the shift is made to all out attack by Sean Hannity (who always acknowledges that he is not a journalist). Translation – it’s not my job to tell the truth.)

Now Trump says the report is “bullshit’ and Mueller is back to being a villain.

Much of the evidence on obstruction was provided by former White House Counsel Don McGahn who took copious notes. Trump goes ballistic on McGahn. McGahn wonders why it is troubling Trump since he has been “totally exonerated”.

Congress requests that McGahn testify before the Committees probably in public hearings.

Trump attempts to block him from saying in public what he said to Mueller. (He knows his peeps will watch the hearing but not read the report. They rely on Rush and Sean to tell them what’s in it. Some of them stopped listening after William Barr said “No collusion!” Barr knew that would happen.)

Rudy Giuliani does the television rounds saying there is nothing wrong with receiving stolen information from Russia. ( So we can conclude that they did.)

PS. We still await the 35 page rebuttal. And I do so look forward to reading Nunes, Graham and Co.

Fun fact – Trump, the man with the ” best memory on earth”, used some version of “I do not recall” or ‘to the best of my recollection’ 37 times in his written responses to Mueller.

    Hilarious!

I now agree that this is in fact THE GREATEST REALITY TV SHOW ON EARTH!

Besides, black man is already suffering. What’s the difference between white man culling and yellow man culling. Either way the black man is dead.

You once said to me that evil has nothing to do with race. Why should we now assume that the yellow man is more evil than the white man?

Is it not just that it’s not only the black man who will suffer but you also? What’s the matter? Is the gargantuan white man afraid of being overtaken by the more gargantuan yellow man and seeking the puny little black man’s help in keeping yellowie at bay???

  • The current progressive effort to demonize attorney general William Barr is creepy, but then again not so strange. He came into the office with singular experience and an excellent reputation from past service. As attorney general, he has followed the law to the letter in handling the release, redactions, and dissemination of the Mueller report. His summaries of the report proved factual. They were not contested by Robert Mueller or his team. His decision not to pursue “obstruction” was not just his own, but logically followed from the Mueller report that did not find enough evidence to make such a positive recommendation. His congressional testimony that there was “spying” during the 2016 campaign is, of course, factually undeniable, and Barr added the qualifier of being interested in finding whether such surveillance was warranted or not.

As for the charge that Barr, a former Bush appointee, is Trump’s “hand-picked” choice –how odd, given that all attorney generals are presidents’ hand-picked selections. How could they not be?

It is not as if Barr has referenced himself, in Eric Holder’s partisan fashion, as Trump’s “wing-man.” Nor has he ordered surveillance on, for example, a Fox News reporter, or had the communication records of 20 Associated Press journalists seized, as happened during the Obama administration in efforts to stop leaks of unwelcome news stories. Nor has he been held in contempt of Congress for failure to turn over subpoenaed documents under the cover of a presidential order of executive privilege. There is no suggestion that Barr has abused the perquisites of the office, for example, by using a government jet to go to the horse races with his family. He has avoided controversial value judgements about the nature of the American people and polarizing rhetoric.

So, more likely, the effort to delegitimize the professional Barr is the opening, preemptory salvo in the second and quite different round of investigations.

Soon Mr. Barr will be tasked with collating and adjudicating criminal referrals and arguments for indictments coming variously from Inspector General Michael Horowitz, possibly special counsel John Huber, Devin Nunes the ranking Republican and former chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and perhaps later even from Lindsey Graham, Chair of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, along with any conclusions arising from federal attorneys within the Justice Department itself.

In toto, these sources variously may present evidence to Barr on matters of lying to federal investigators, perjury, obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and abuse of government surveillance — and the charges could, in ironic fashion, involve top-ranking former administrative state investigators during the Obama administration, who for the last two years have been quite prominent as cable news analysts and, in their memoirs at least, as self-described ethicists. Add that there will be a completely different sort of news cycle as it intensifies in approach of the 2020 election. In such investigations, no one has any idea what possible defendants may do or say to federal prosecutors in efforts to lessen their own criminal exposure.

In sum, the progressives’ preventative efforts to destroy Barr’s reputation take on a certain sort of sick partisan logic, especially as he is neither the sort to recuse himself during cycles of journalistic hysteria nor to appoint a special counsel, after the ill-starred odyssey of the Mueller all-stars and dream team. Given his age, past tenures, reputation, and professional demeanor, Barr does not seem to be much worried over transient unpopularity, partisan criticism, political pressure, or making tough decisions that might adversely affect his future career.

So the fear is not that Barr broke or will ever break the law, but rather just the opposite: He seems the sort who will follow the law wherever it leads him and without worry over the consequences — and that reality is now apparently seen by some as quite scary indeed.

  • Criminal conspiracy requires a stated quid pro quo. Mueller found that though the two entities seemed to be running parallel to each other (and meeting frequently) he could not find evidence of a formal agreement. In other words there may have been a wink and a nod but no expressed agreement.that said – if you do this for me, I will do that for you in return. The standard for criminal conspiracy is very high. Mueller also stated that evidence was destroyed and some messages were encrypted. .

When Trump told Russia at a televised rally : ” Russia, if you are listening, i hope you are able to find the 30 000 e-mails etc. ” they immediately started to hack. Hmmmmmm?????

As to why they never found anything on Trump – it should be no surprise that Trump had others do his dirty work. That’s par for the course with Dons. He rejected the idea of a meeting with Putin. Almost everybody else met with some Russian. Hmmmmm???????

But if anything was proven here it is that this was a legitimate investigation and not a witch hunt. All those secret meetings with Russians were worthy of investigation. If Trump knew he had done no wrong he could simply have said, “Knock yourself out!” Hmmmmm???????.

And if Mueller and his team were “demonic” wouldn’t they have made some evidence appear? How is it that these “demonic” men have written a report that “totally exonerates” Trump? Are they honorable men or demons??? Does the report totally exonerate Trump or doesn’t it? Surely it cannot be both?!

The report is obviously fair. No criminal conspiracy proven but heaps of unethical behaviour. They did not alert the FBI who had warned them about Russian interference and asked them to do just that. Instead they encouraged the interference and welcomed it. .Plenty of attempts to stop the investigation – firings, instructions to fire, lies, instruction to aides to lie, dangling of pardons, intimidation of witnesses. Trump took an oath to uphold the laws and he thwarted the investigation as much as he could. Any one of the acts outlined above would have resulted in charges for a person who is not the President.

So…. where exactly is Trump standing right now? Mueller felt bound by the Justice Department’s policy that a sitting President cannot be indicted. He mentions what Congress’ role is supposed to be. He also mentions that a former president is no longer protected from indictment. The Senate is not going to convict him even if the house impeaches him. His only sure way out is to win the next election and outrun the statute of limitation.

    We shall see.

    It shall surely be entertaining!

PS. Mueller actually made a huge profit. Off the proceeds of Paul Manafort.’s crimes. Michael Cohen was also forced to pay his overdue taxes. And speaking of taxes…..

Why can’t your president follow the tradition and release his tax returns??????? What is he hiding????? Why do you guys hold him to a different standard than you would a Democrat president?

  • Former FBI Official Admits Hillary Clinton Emails Were Found in Obama White House

“This astonishing confirmation, made under oath by the FBI, shows that the Obama FBI had to go to President Obama’s White House office to find emails that Hillary Clinton tried to destroy or hide from the American people,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “No wonder Hillary Clinton has thus far skated – Barack Obama is implicated in her email scheme.”

    April 23, 2019

A former top FBI official has admitted under oath that a repository of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email records was obtained by the Obama White House and housed in the Executive Office of the President.

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch recently coaxed the admission out of the former assistant director of the FBI Counterintelligence Division, Bill Priestap, as part of a court-ordered discovery regarding Clinton’s unauthorized email server.

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth ruled earlier this year that discovery could commence examining Clinton’s use of the server and ordered Obama administration senior State Department officials, lawyers, and Clinton aides to be deposed or answer written questions under oath. The court said that the Clinton email system was “one of the gravest modern offenses to government transparency.”

Judicial Watch asked Priestap to identify representatives of Clinton, her former staff, and government agencies from which “email repositories were obtained” by the FBI.

In addition to the Executive Office of the President, Priestap also named “Clinton aides Cheryl Mills, Heather Samuelson, Jacob Sullivan, and Justin Cooper; former Clinton information technology staffer Bryan Pagliano, the State Department, Secret Service, and Washington-based law firm Williams and Connolly.”

According to the watchdog group, Priestap also testified that nearly 49,000 Clinton server emails were reviewed as a result of a search warrant for her material on Anthony Weiner’s laptop. Weiner was then the wayward husband of Huma Abedin, the vice chair of Clinton’s 2016 campaign for president.

While he was the head of the FBI’s counterintelligence division, Priestap helped oversee both the Clinton email and the FBI’s 2016 Crossfire Hurricane investigations.

However, in closed-door testimony before congressional lawmakers in June of 2018, Priestap acknowledged it was mostly FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI analyst Jonathan Moffa who drove those investigations.

He testified in a separate lawsuit in 2017 that Clinton was the subject of a grand jury investigation in 2016 related to her BlackBerry email accounts.

A complete copy of Priestap’s responses is available here. http://www.judicialwatch.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/JW-v-State-HRC-emails-Priestap-answers-01242-1.pdf

@Vincent, alas your sentiments are valid. There is NO WAY that the first Black president could have conducted himself in this maze of fabrications, dissembling and outright fraternization (indirectly or not) during his campaign with an enemy power and still be in the WH…he would have been removed by any means necessary: fair or fowl- cockish! .

    But such is life.

@Donna, kudos to you on bluntly insightful remarks above…. I fully agree that any man who awaits a vaild and truthful reference on this Trump matter from the hero Nunes (according to POTUS) – who as we recall was shown to be a disingenous WH whisperer when he pulled that stunt which led to his forced recusal as Intel committee chair for the Trump review – is an unbowed partisan only!

And Mr Blogmaster your “They will continue to undermine the intelligence forces at the country’s peril” says it all!

It amazes and boggles the mind that daily you have supposedly rational folks being so blatantly partisan that they look at legitimate evidence of the type of subterfuge and lying which at ANY other time in presidential history (Republican or Democrat) would have seen a purposefully bipartisan pushback but now it’s defending lies as alternate facts or manufacturing facts and calling them slips of the tongue.

If FBI agents or congressional witnesses lied then let them be charged accordingly but it’s a nonsense to suggest that the FBI spied on American citizens in a political campaign after those one of those same citizens was reported to be bragging about a totally illegal act of getting ASSISTANCE and info from a foreign hostile nation to subvert a US election!….It’s the JOB of the FBI to investigate such activities. FullStop.

You are shrewd and well read enough to appreciate the incredible symmetry (I presume the $3 word is dialectic): this man who embraces Russia in a manner that borders on treasonous had as a mentor (of sorts) and consigliere the man Cohn who marshalled Sen McCarthy’s notorious Russian witch-hunt back in the 50s/60s – the most such greivous harassment in recent US political history. Under those two this man would have been long ago drawn and quartered!

But here we are parsing fabrication after fabrication and now accepting apparently that it’s OK to take info in a political contest from Russia … because Trump’s lawyer says so.

Lets be overjoyed that the “investigation did not identify evidence that any U.S. persons knowingly and intentionally coordinated with the [Russian actors] interference operations”. The world far less the US could not withstand the jolt had ANY conspiracy of collaboration been found…but let’s also recognize that many of those campaign folks lied repeatedly about Russian contacts made…that was unnecessary unless there was a perceived sense of wrong doing …which it WAS!

This partisan folly will be the to the nation and world’s detriment as you noted.

  • In a Tuesday one-on-one interview on CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time,” former Attorney General Michael Mukasey and host Chris Cuomo debated FBI special counsel Robert Mueller’s findings from his almost two-year investigation into alleged Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election.

The former attorney general under President George W. Bush called out Cuomo and CNN for “misleading a lot of people” with their collusion theories without full knowledge of the report.

Mukasey asserted that President Donald Trump was “being investigated for a crime that didn’t happen and that he certainly didn’t commit.”

“Who says it didn’t happen?” Cuomo asked. “Russian interference happened.”

“Russian interference happened for sure, but cooperation and conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russians did not happen,” Mukasey corrected.

Cuomo replied, “To a criminal level, no, says Mr. Mueller.”

    Mukasey stated, “To any level.”

“I don’t know about any level,” responded Cuomo. “But to a criminal level I’ll give you.”

Cuomo said bringing charges against Trump should have been left up to Congress, which Mukasey also corrected him on.

    Excerpt as follows:

MUKASEY: Congress doesn’t indict. Congress can impeach.

CUOMO: I’m using it as just a metaphor here.

MUKASEY: But you’re misleading a lot of people. You have a big audience. … Getting smaller by the minute now, but it’s bigger.

He added, “[Y]our network were devoting days of people sitting around and talking about a report that they didn’t — whose content they didn’t know, that they hadn’t seen, in essence, panels of people sitting around a table inhaling their own exhaust and getting high on it.”

What a laff @MB…you are quoting one partisan on the Republican side who says:
“But you’re misleading a lot of people”.

I believe in poker one could say, I see your bet and raise you: doesn’t the POTUS grossly mislead many more people daily.

Wrong is wrong it is true… But a big wrong of the presidential magnitude is surely much more insidious than the smaller wrong of CNN’s talking heads.

When I have time I can take apart the actual disingenuous nature of the former AG’s substantive claims.

    I gone.

There is dreaming and then there is waking up to reality and the reality is that the islands in the Caribbean couldn’t embark on establishing any marijuana related industry until Uncle Sam gives the go ahead.

So, we of meagre resources should bar countries like the US and Canada and develop our own Cannabis industries. If it was ever so simple, are we going to approach the World Bank for funding (BTW Trump was going to nominate his daughter to Head the Bank as he said she is good with numbers) or will we approach deep pocket Caribbean entrepreneurs for funding? After we “cut out” the big boys who are we going to export to? They may very well say “tek yuh bat and ball and go play wid yuhself” but that is if they are polite but if they play hardball how will our countries respond?

You do know about the US response to those African countries that tried to phase out the importation of used clothing from the US because they wanted to develop their own textile industry, right? It threatened to withdraw those countries from the African Growth and Opportunity Act – a program that supports African Economic and political growth- in other words let us continue to send our old clothes to support our Corporations while your fledgling textile industry dies on the vine or we gwine cut off our aid.

See how the world works? Wake up and smell the Coffee

    VERY GOOD AND ACCURATE CARTOON

GOOD LOOKED DOWN AND HE SAW AND HE ACTED!

GOD PREFERED THAT AMERICA BE DEGRADED BY THE BLACK MORON SHITBAMA
THAN HAVE IT TOTATALLY DETROYED BY THE WHITE INEPT AND INCOMPETENT WEAKLING MCCAIN, AND THE MURDERING AND MANIPULATIVE HILARY CLINTON

NOW MANY HARP ON THE SINS OF TRUMP FORGETTING THAT SINCE ALL HAVE SINNED AS TAUGHT IN ROMANS 3:23, THAT THEY ARE SINNERS TOO

HERE IS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE CLASSIFICATION OF SIN
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

EVERYTIME ANY ONE AND EVERYONE OF US SINS WE DO SO IN ONE OF THESE THREE CATEGORIES,
    The lust of the flesh,
the lust of the eyes, OR
    the pride of life

THIS HAS BEEN SO FROM WHEN EVE TOOK OF THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT AS RECORDED IN GENESIS 3:6 THUS

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food——,The lust of the flesh,
and that it was pleasant to the eyes,———the lust of the eyes
and a tree to be desired to make one wise, ———– the pride of life

THE ONLY MAN WHO HAS PASSED THESE TESTS WAS THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AS RECORDED IN MATTHEW 4 AND LUKE 4 AND SO IT IS CORRECTLY SAID OF HIM IN HEBREWS 4:15 THAT HE WAS tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.

SO WHEN PEOPLE HATE TRUMP AS THEY DO IT IS RIDICULOUS
HE IS NOT CHRIST AND IS A SINNER LIKE ALL THE MORONS WHO HATE HIM FOR HIS MAJOR FAULT, I.E THE BOASTFUL PRIDE OF LIFE. HE BRAGS ABOUT WHAT HE HAS ACCOMPLISHED IN LIFE

ALL THE MORONS THAT HATE HIM WOULD BOAST TOO………IT IS JUST THAT THEY HAVE ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING TO BOAST ABOUT……….SO THEY HATE AND ENVY HIM

MANY OF THE POLITICIANS IN THE DC SWAMP HAVE DONE LITTLE EXCEPT GOT RICHER FOR BEING ELECTED, AND BEING INVOLVED IN THE CORRUPTION THEREIN…….BUT TRUMP THE OUTSIDER HAS COME AND EXPOSED THEIER INCOMPETENCE AND INEPTITUDE AND INDIFFERENCE IN TWO SHORT YEARS

I FOUND THIS VIDEO VERY INSTRUCTIVE
I HOPE YOU CAN GLEAN SOMETHING FROM IT AS I DID

I did not forget your wife is Asian. But….. my point is that I am more concerned with the rise of white supremacy and the governments of white supremacists across the world whose most violent perpetrators see your beloved Trump as their inspiration and symbol! This is a more immediate threat to me. Why should I be more concerned with what makes you feel threatened?

  • Now, I’ll show you guys how to be fair.

Trump would have won the election without the help of Russia. Hillary was a bad candidate who ran a poor campaign. She had too much baggage, and in the age of the me too movement she carried her husband’s baggage. Black people would not be excited by her enough to come out as they did for Obama. She took the working class whites for granted and neglected to even visit certain areas where they predominate. And lastly she did some pretty stupid things with her e-mails and tried to cover it up. If the Democrats had not felt that she was entitled to inherit the presidency they would have nominated a better candidate.

Trump told them what they wanted to hear. He ran a more strategic campaign. He was an outsider. They were tired of insiders.

Trump is the legitimate president of the United States.

At first I did not even believe that he had conspired with the Russians but as evidence of secret meeting just kept coming out and they kept lying about it I became suspicious. There probably was no expressed quid pro quo between the campaign and the Russians but there was a common purpose and an understanding that there was a common purpose. And the campaign welcomed it with open arms, co-operated with it and used it to their advantage. They did NOT inform the FBI as asked to do and therefore AN INVESTIGATION WAS IN ORDER>

Trump attempted in many many ways TO STOP A LEGITIMATE INVESTIGATION. That was WRONG! They lied and lied! Barr spun and spun. That was wrong!

And your analysis of what went down is totally, totally off.

    But just for laughs –

Ladies and gentlemen… the President of the United States

“The Mueller Report, despite being written by Angry Democrats and Trump Haters, and with unlimited money behind it ($35,000,000), didn’t lay a glove on me. I DID NOTHING WRONG. If the partisan Dems ever tried to Impeach, I would first head to the U.S. Supreme Court,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.
