If we published our water quality we would not have a South Coast Sewage problem today. It would have allowed us to keep a high benchmark on quality. Here is the info as presented on PM10 /P2.5 in high trafficked areas for we all can identify with poor working diesel vehicles fumigating our lungs daily with impunity.  The GOB must act for we are more than an economy.

Here is a SUMMARY in text form of the report.

  1. Have we heard from Carl Moore recently as it relates to noise pollution? Did he miss a trick not co-opting the support of social media instead of being it worst critic? Sometimes one has to look at the good that can be done by setting aside inflated egos and sensibilities.

  2. What about the pervs parking by Pebbles beach in their SUVs/trucks jerking off with the windows rolled up/engine running polluting the place..Nuff freaky people bout this place.

  3. RE If we published our water quality we would not have a South Coast Sewage problem today. It would have allowed us to keep a high benchmark on quality.

THIS STATEMENT IS A NON SEQUITUR AND THE STATEMENT OF AN IDIOT

HOW WILL PUBLISHING OUR WATER QUALITY PREVENT US FROM HAVING A SOUTH COAST SEWAGE PROBLEM

THINK ABOUT IT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SENSORY APHASIA

IS SAMPLES OF OUR WATER TESTED WEEKLY AS IT USED TO BE?
    IF NOT WHY NOT?

IF IT IS HOW WILL PUBLISHING THIS INFO HELP? AND HELP WHO?

HOW WILL IT HELP BU BRIMBLERS?

HOW WILL IT HELP IF THOSE EMPLOYED TO ACT DONT ACT APPROPRIATELY AND IN A TIMELY FASHION

HOW WILL IT HELP IF THE SOUTH COAST SEWERAGE PROJECT IS POORLY DESIGNED AND POORLY MANAGED?

YOU SEE THE WHOLE WORLD NEEDS DOERS AND NOT ONLY THOSE WHO JUST ENGAGE IN MORONIC MOUTHINGS?

YOU SEE THE WHOLE WORLD NEEDS PEOPLE WHO DO THE RIGHT THINGS AND NOT ONLY JUST TALK SHITE?

WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD PUBLIC HEALTH FOLK GONE?

WHERE ARE THE HIGHLY CREDENTIALED BU COMMENTERS?

  4. Yet residential land beside the heavily used, and polluted ABC Highway cost an arm and leg,and is in high demand. And quite often we see some farmers harvesting grass in close proximity to the highway to feed their stock.

  5. @David King, never argue with any one who insults others for they are at their best cowardly using anonymity to emotionally jerk themselves off.

  6. HOLDER December 10, 2018 12:36 AM

INSTEAD OF TALKING SHITE INDICATE WHERE ANYTHING THAT I HAVE SAID IS WRONG
I WOULD STAND UP BEFORE YOU OR ANY LIKE YOU AND TALK ABOUT WHAT I KNOW

WHAT HAVE YOU ADDED TO THE DEBATE?

CAN YOU ANSWER ANY OF THESE QUESTIONS

HOW WILL PUBLISHING OUR WATER QUALITY PREVENT US FROM HAVING A SOUTH COAST SEWAGE PROBLEM

OR ARE YOU ANOTHER ONE WHO THINK YOU CAN MOCK ME?

  7. KAMMIE HOLDER

YOU TINK U IS SOMEBODY BECAUSE YOU FOOL AROUND AT THE FUTURE CENTRE TRUST?

MAN YOU IS A JOHHNY COME LATELY……..CAUSE YOU WERE NOT THERE AT THE INCEPTION…………..I WAS !

JUST THAT I DIDNT GET MY NAME IN THE PAPER AND THOUGHT THAT I WAS SPECIAL.

  8. “@David King, never argue with any one who insults others for they are at their best cowardly using anonymity to emotionally jerk themselves off.”

    @ Kammie Holder

Does your statement also apply to those who use their real names to excessively insult others?

Hal Austin is the first person that comes to mind.

He was behaving himself until recently I saw him refer to the blogmaster as a semi illiterate man with a blog.

    @ David King BU

Why do you put up with Austin’s & Georgie Porgie’s childish behaviour? I can’t believe they are two old men behaving like arrogant 10 year olds.

  9. BU mirrors the good, bad and ugly of the society, to suppress it on BU would be to create a lie. Let us see the contributors for who and what they are and learn from the experience. The blogmaster does not hold enmity for any commenter. Until commenters contribution reach a point where in our judgement they have crossed a line let them post.

We will know them by their fruit and be better for it.

  10. We have a new government, has the Future Trust been invited to the table to help shape policy? Can you share an assessment of how they have performed to date?

  11. David, you would do us all a favour if you told that GP moron to stop his shouting. Caps do NOT make his ranting better.

  12. @45colt

Do you have anything constructive to add to the topic?

  13. Do you have anything constructive to add to the topic?
THAT IS A VERY GOOD QUESTION
UNFORTUNATELY YOU WILL FIND THAT MANY HERE CAN NOT

RE Why do you put up with Austin’s & Georgie Porgie’s childish behaviour? I can’t believe they are two old men behaving like arrogant 10 year olds.
TRUST ME SIR. WHAT YOU BELIEVE IS OF LITTLE IMPORTANCE?

HAST THOU NEVER HEARD THE WORDS OF THE MASTER WHO SAID THAT”A LITTLE CHILD SHALL LEAD THEM?” LOL

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON THIS TOPIC OR ANY TOPIC?

CAN YOU IN YOUR GREAT GLORIOUS ADULTHOOD TELL US ANYTHING ABOUT THE PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES RAISED AT THE TOP OF THE BLOG? CAN YOU OR ANYONE ANSWER ANY OF THE RELEVANT QUESTIONS I POSED?

  14. RE We have a new government, has the Future Trust been invited to the table to help shape policy?

WHY? THE BRAIN AND WISDOM OF THE FTC DIED 14 YEARS AGO SIR!
AT ITS INCEPTION THE BLP HATED HIM AND HIS VIEWS ABOUT LAND USE AND AGRICULTURE IN BARBADOS, INTER ALIA.

THE BRAIN CHILD AND ORIGINAL WISDOM IN THE FTC HAVE EITHER DIED OR NO LONGER GIVE FINANCIAL SUPPORT—–I MEAN LOTS OF MONEY FROM OVERSEAS.

  15. Yes David I do. With the trade winds a pretty constant factor I have NEVER experienced air pollution outside of a still day in Broad St. This is an irrelevance in the broad panoply of Bim’s problems.
Secondly, I see my interjection re the shouty GP has had the desired effect at least in regard to volume if not verbosity.

  16. I SEE THAT YOUR APHASIA HAS SUBSIDED A BIT TO ALLOW YOU TO WRITE MORE THAN ONE LINE

  17. GP should add color to his writings,
if you want to see air pollution cut open one of the fire services scba you will find corrosion ,oils, if the filling station air intake is near exhausts etc they will be filled with contaminants. See if your firefighters have a lot of respitory problems like coughs, colds, and breathing problems judging by the sewage treatment plant maintenance is probably not done.

  18. lawson
if I was still the medical officer for the fire dept I could attempt to do that
but there is merit in your suggestions
obviously–unlike many who opine here- you clearly know of what you speak
i can imagine that such an exercise would be met with much resistance at the head of the fire service and in the ministry in charge thereof
    why?
    IGNORANCE
    UNWILLINGNESS TO LEARN

  19. GP we cut ours open years ago and the insides were black and filled with corrosion ..the air filling was not done in sanitary conditions or right temperatures etc guys were prone to sickness, they found the cylinders filled with cancer causing contaminants Eventually it was all swept under the rug but a system was put in place to fill monitor and replace equipment with a certain individual looking after it so there was consistency. and culpability. I would almost bet money your cylinders are filled at a dive shop.

  20. LAWSON
WE CAN ONLY HOPE THAT ONE OF OUR FIRE FOLK READ THIS NUGGET OF TRUTH AND LOOK AFTER THEMSELVES AS YOU SUGGEST FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE
I AM NO LONGER AROUND DOWN THERE AND NOT IN CONTACT

  21. The study has been presented as a scientific one. I have no problem with the fact that there is pollution caused by vehicular emissions. One doesn’t need to be a scientist to deduce such. In science , even observational studies (the study is basically observational) have to be executed rigorously . Under the heading of materials and methods, the authors of the article on at least four occasions used the plural noun data with the verb was. This can be done in an informal setting but not in a scientific paper. In a scientific paper one uses “data were” . Additionally, no statistical analyses of the results were presented to show a definitive correlation between emissions and asthma. One must remember that,in science, a life maybe in the balance and the manner in which an article is written up can be an indication of the efficacy of the study.

  22. @lawson

Agree we have a big problem linked to a lack of a robust maintenance program. The young building of the Supreme Court in Whitepark is a good example. Isn’t a BOLT project suppose to have a built in maintenance program?

  23. @GP

You are quite right sir, publishing water quality is of no value whatsoever. I stopped reading after that ridiculous claim. What he needs to ask is what is the system in place for managing water quality.

Analysis of the water quality management system would reveal whether a thorough, appropriate and up to date risk assessment has been conducted. The findings and recommendations from the risk assessment are the foundation for a framework of policies, procedures and processes aimed at monitoring quality, managing risks, correcting mistakes and continually improving the system. Within the framework will be a requirement to conduct water quality tests as part of quality monitoring but never will there be a requirement to publish the results.

To boldly claim that publishing the findings would solve the problem reveals a level of ignorance that is troubling and shows a clear lack of understanding of or disdain for science. Environmental activists who don’t or can’t understand environmental science should stick to organising beach cleaning

  24. Did anyone besides Lucas read the link?

It is more like a newspaper article than science. In fact, it is not really scientific at all.

Is it because it is Bajan that you posted that drivel?

  25. pieceuhderockyeahright Avatar
    pieceuhderockyeahright

Before I start I dun know it is going to be said dat one myope de ole man, kowtowing for favour from another myope Dr GP.

    But here goes anyways

There are some questions that Dr. GP asked which, NOTWITHSTANDING HIS CAPS LOCK, bring some perspective to this discussion that might normally have conveniently skirted certain underlying issues.

Dr GP said and I, in part quote

“…HOW WILL PUBLISHING OUR WATER QUALITY PREVENT US FROM HAVING A SOUTH COAST SEWAGE PROBLEM

Are SAMPLES OF OUR WATER TESTED WEEKLY AS IT USED TO BE?

    IF NOT WHY NOT?

IF IT IS HOW WILL PUBLISHING THIS INFO HELP? AND HELP WHO?…”

The first point that his first query brings to head is totally logical.

How does publishing the one help the other? Is that not reasonable to ask?

Mr William Skinner made the interesting observation a few weeks ago about why was it that, with the proposed reparations payment/bribery by the University of Glasgow, was the reparations money to be paid to UWI?

It is a valid question and maybe de ole man is wrong for my extrapolation, but maybe Mr Holder means to say that the water content will indicate the quality of shite management but the extrapolation IS NOT OBVIOUS.

    Secondly.

Were it not for the Doctor’s observation rather question I would not have known that this was once a weekly test!

That being the case, it begs the question why there have not been any weekly tests.

Which then points to the issue of who is responsible for these tests not being done ? or there not being any followup in their absence

Finally even I an ingrunt ole man can see where the doc is pointing

Namely to an inept phone salesman General Manager who is always pun a holiday

Or a next African feller who when he come heah could not rub two pennies together but now is a bogolord millionaire at the expense of bajans.

Wunna ignore all these preceding points to arrive at the Doctor’s questions about what is your certification and not annoyed by what is a non issue.

Now we voing be hurled back and forth between the accustomed ad hominem

While we bajans bathing and drinking shite daily

    A bridge too Effing Far

BU BRIMBLERS CAN ONLY OPINE AND DRIVEL ABOUT POLITICS

It is more like a newspaper article than science. In fact, it is not really scientific at all.
I AGREE WITH YOU AND DR LUCAS WHO CORRECTLY POSITS THAT “no statistical analyses of the results were presented to show a definitive correlation between emissions and asthma.”
ONE WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AT LEAST ONE OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

    RE @Blogmaster:
Is it because it is Bajan that you posted that drivel?
    NO BU IS DRIVEL ORIENTED
WHAT I FOUND MOST LUDICROUS WAS THAT ABOVE A STUDY ON AIR POLLUTION THERE WAS THE BOLD STATEMENT ABOUT publishing water quality

EXACTLY THE SORT OF CHILDISH NONSEQUITUR FOR WHICH BUSH SHITE IS FAMOUS

At the minimum the topic can move the discussion. This is where the focus needs to be.

  29. Word on the ground. The fish at Greame Hall sanctuary has died/dying because if the daily deluge of toxins which have been deposited into the swamp from the sewer plant
Where are the socalled enviromentalist like Kammie Holder and all the other enviromentalist mouths who had invaded the island three years ago
Where are all them at a crucial time when Gods protectors of the enviroment are being killed through no fault of their own

  30. PIECE
RE Were it not for the Doctor’s question I would not have known that this was once a weekly test!
THE PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT (NOT BWA) USED TO COLLECT SAMPLES OF WATER FROM SEVERAL LOCATIONS ALL AROUND BARBADOS AND SUBJECT IT TO THE PUBLIC HEALTH LABORATORY , THEN AT ENMORE, FOR ANALYSIS INCLUDING A COLIFORM COUNT

RE At the minimum the topic can move the discussion.
BY WHOM? WHO WILL DO THIS?
WHERE ARE THE HIGHLY CREDENTIALED BU COMMENTERS?
WILL BUSH TEA THE BIG GOOGLE SCIENTIST?
    LOL

The understanding is that it is a summary report prepared for public consumption.
    ++++++++++++++
Fair enough. But the summary suggests the original is sub-par.

On a another note, does anyone here test their own tap water?

When I am in the island I do, and in the past few years the results point to low quality water. We now always boil our drinking water.
Has anyone else seen this or is the low quality just a south coast thing?

WHICH PART OF THE ISLAND DO YOU STAY SIR?
OFF COURSE THIS SHOULD NOT BE SO ANYWHERE………….IN 1972 WE FOUND VERY LOW COLIFORM COUNTS IN THE WATER WE TESTED

NOTE THE WATER WAS NOT FROM THE SAME SOURCE EVERY WEEK
BACK THEN WE HAD VAUGHAN WELLS AND SIR MAURICE BYER AROUND AT THE TOP
AND MEN LIKE FLR FRANCIS IN THE LAB

Couldn’t agree with you more was the jackass who posited this as a major issue the same nincompoop who questioned our water quality when a few persons died suddenly. People die suddenly all over the world. Others are born to take their place. That’s the essence of the continuity of life. With residents like that numbskull our sweet isle doesn’t need enemies.

  42. Clearly lifeless! 😩😩

  43. But Where are the enviromentslist that fought tooth and nail against the waste to energy plant
What is happening in the swamp is a natural disaster in the making that would cost govt millions of dollars to repair plus an enviromental hazard to our water system

  44. The government has communicated that the outfall will be completed by mid month and then the work begins to regenerate the swamp. You are reminded the former government was redirecting waste to the swamp as well albeit not in the same volume. Then again we have the problem today because the former government ignored the warning.

  45. I have often wondered how the government managed to enact legislation banning tobacco smoking in public places as a protection to our health while turning a blind eye to the many diesel powered public and private vehicles that drive along our highways belching out volumes of noxious fumes, sometimes in the faces of pedestrians (school-aged children included), without fear or hindrance. Maybe diesel fumes have been deemed less harmful than tobacco smoke.

  46. Why would government see the urgency when it would be the biggest culprit given the maintenance record of its fleet?

  47. I asked a question and your answer is to responsed by talking about past govt
    So here we go again

Where are the mouths of the enviromentalist who spoke openly and had environmental concerns when the WTE plant was being proposed
Why the silence now when a bigger enviromental disaster has occured and one which would affect the people and water system

  48. Apples and oranges madam. One was a scam proposal that could not even pass the proof of concept stage; the other is the failure of a management system.

  49. Mariposa alluded to hearing rumors about fish dying. As a matter of fact, one would expect fish to die as a result of a process called eutrophication. Where there is an increase in the organic matter content of a body of water the chemical and biological oxygen demands (BOD and COD) of the water are affected. As a result, there is rapid growth of algae and other micro-organisms presence: there is a depletion in the oxygen content of the body of the water and fish die basically of oxygen starvation. The propose outflow will also result in a localized depletion of oxygen at the site of discharge resulting in what can be called a temporary desert in the ocean.

  50. @Dr. Lucas

Will the proposed regeneration exercise after the outfall is completed remedy the problem of the swamp?
