Mottley has lead responsibility for the CARICOM Single Market and Economy and Reparations – Nation newspaper 05 July 2018

If the blogmaster had to chose a Barbados Man of the Year Ambassador David Comissiong would win in a no contest. His body of work makes him the ideal person to function in the role as Ambassador to Caricom – for sure compared to his predecessors Bobby Morris and Denis Kellman.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley this week at the HoGs in Montega Bay, Jamaica renewed Barbados’ commitment to the regional movement CARICOM. The blogmaster also heard the open challenge given to Prime Minister Mottley by Chairman Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica in her role as lead  Prime Minister for CSME matters.

Many in this forum will debate the usefulness of CARICOM. What is clear to the blogmaster is  that to compete in today’s world, a level of cooperation between regions will have to occur. The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) sub region serves as a measure of success for what the region should aspire. Despite challenges the region (CARICOM) boast of several regional entities and frameworks that continue to serve us well.

The blogmaster is confident that David Comissiong is the ideal man to carry the baton on this league of the regional integration/functional cooperation journey. The blogmaster is equally proud that two citizen advocates who have seen the benefit of using this forum to promote tseir messages- the other Senator Caswell Franklyn- have been called to public service.

Again good luck and God speed!

  1. Congrats. I wish him well and hopes he achieves success in this new post and all he sets out to do,

However, I am no longer in ‘love ‘ with him.

(I always worry about the use of the word ‘love’ when talking man to man 🙂 Don’t take it the wrong way)

  3. SMH keep drinking the koolaid
The tea leaves read as follows ! a man who has feverishly destabilzed the political and social enviroment of barbados and is being rewarded for doing so.
Hell No barbados nor the Carribbean basin will not be the beneficiaries of his offerings
Just take a look who are his friends are in the Carribbean and south American basin
Under his watch as Ambassdor the carribbean basin would further be destabilized as the word “change” becomes the operator and dictator towards communist leanings
The rubber has already hit the road and the peoples eyes would remained closed as to what motives are being used as political drivers to convince them into a different way of thinking one which would replace democracy in suttle and deceptive way
So No .i dare not say Viva Commissiong

  4. Does this mean LIAT will now be flying to Caracas and Havana????

  5. Disclaimer: What I know about Jong is what I read on BU pages.

One would have to be blind, deaf and dumb to be not aware that the BLP won the war on FB. There was more streaming of political meetings, the crowds seem larger, you were bombarded with invitations from several friends, and the quality of the presentations was quite good,

I received fewer invites to watch the DLP meetings and when I did I saw two ‘old geezers’ on a podium who were more interested in their cell phones than in the messages and messengers.

The BLP won the FB war-easily. Which leads to the questions?
How could the DLP fall so far behind?
How could the DLP be so out of touch with every segment of the population?
Who was providing advice on how to use the ‘new media’?
Even on BU we had DLP Fturds talking about LEC, expose (zay), ‘King’ Freundel (imagine that – a king)…
Who was advising Freundel that Bajans wanted the strong ‘silent’ type?
Was anyone checking the pulse of Bajans on the home front? Was 30-0 ever brought up in internal meetings?
Was anyone checking the pulse of Bajans in the Diaspora?
How could they get it so wrong – 100%?
Has the nature of Bajan politics changed from what they were accustomed to?

Whoever plotted the BLP strategy or advised them on the use of ‘new media’ deserves any rewards they reap. “

“To the victors, go the spoils”

  6. Is this the price of the Hyatt being built

  7. If Denis Kellman and Bobby Morris, as CARICOM ambassadors under the former inept DLP administration, were unable to broker a fishing agreement with Trinidad & Tobago during 10 years, pray tell how would Commisiong succeed in establishing links with communist countries, especially when he has to fulfil government’s mandate?

In other words, you people are behaving as though Commisiong’s actions would be “autonomous.” He would be free to do as he pleases.

    DLP propaganda.

  8. TheoGazerts

I believe the DEMS were confident of receiving a third term, after all, Barbados is deemed to be “DLP country,” so there wasn’t a need for any extra campaigning efforts.

However, I believe if UPP or even SB were to be more forceful and comment more on issues while presenting detailed explained alternative policies, they may form the government and opposition in 2023.

Because if this new BLP administration continues on its current path, they may be a one term government………

………suffering a similar humiliating fate as the DLP.

  9. Lawson,

A very good question. The man has sold his moral soul for thirty pieces of silver. Nice to see the chairman of BU thinks this is something to celebrate and, worse, equates Caswell Franklyn’s appointment as an opposition senator with Mr Commissiong’s as CARICOM ambassador. That he cannot see the difference speaks volumes.

None of them can fool Us, We know what they have done, Crooks promote crooks!

  11. Well at least he know that major problems can’t be solved over a bowl of soup. There’s a vibrancy in the air once again even though much has not changed as yet. I am reminded of the entirely opposite feeling when the DLP was returned to power in a previous election and there a feeling of shock awe throughout the nation. The general atmosphere was one of national disaster. Kellman and Morris were two of the biggest failures ever to have been appointed to any position anywhere in the world (besides the king of fools).

All that is left to be said now is “Welcome back Barbados 3.0”.

  12. I have no regard for Commissiong, but the bilious hatred he arouses in that iggorant yardfowl mariposa inclines me to wish him well.
Anyone who irritates that useless DLP orifice cannot be all bad.

  13. Just as the people eliminated the DLP off the political landscape and out of their lives, the sooner the PEOPLE…stop support political parties….the better their lives will be and the sooner they will see progress…you already pay these nuisances and parasites a salary, every month, there is no need to support them, what you need to do is monitor their every move.

Get rid of political parties by voting candidates…who do you work…only.

  14. Get rid of political parties by voting candidates…who do YOUR work…only.

  15. The blogmaster is confident and commonsense would dictate that Comissiong has received an assurance from government that it will proceed with the Hyatt deal in a way to not conflict with his public call for the correct process to be followed as supported by the Barbados Court. When that time comes and the blogmaster is proved wrong BU will do what we always do, call him out on it.

  16. Last time DC got into bed with the BLP in the O$A Politics of Inclusion era it did not end well!!

I do not think CARICOM will ever amount to more than the talk shop it is and has always been.

The islands are too disparate in their origins.

Barbados is quite different in its origins and needs to go its own way.

Trinidad and Guyana are of recent, 1790’s vintage and existed for a different reason than did Barbados.

Jamaica, Antigua and St. Kitts are the closest to Barbados.

Haiti is as about as disparate as it gets.

St. Vincent, Grenada, St. Lucia are quite different in their origins as well.

  17. I have long given up on the chairman’s ability for elementary reasoning, but his last post takes the biscuit. He wants us to believe that he is privileged to a private agreement between Mr Commissiong and the government. Assuming that Mr Commissiong has taken him in to his confidence, is he asking us to believe that the BLP government has assured Mr Commissiong that it would continue to proceed with the legal action in a way that would not cause conflict. Which way is this?
This is bogus. The original case was Commissiong v the Govt of Barbados. If it proceeds, it must either accept Mr Commissiong’s objections and withdraw planning permission, or if it proceeds then it will oppose him.
So we will have the obscenity of a senior government diplomat in the high court fighting a battle against the government about government policy.
Let me say again, in case I am misunderstood: Mr Commissiong has abandoned his principles in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. He has betrayed the people and is a political Judas.

  18. In CARICOM, the people of the various countries are just about listened out to their politicians even though the HOGS have not yet realized it and are not yet talked out!!

For them it is business as usual, keeping up appearances and wasting money!!

  19. Congrats DC! I must confess I thought it would be to Venezuela, Cuba or Siberia.

  20. What nonsense is Johnliesalot talking…everyone of the African descended people in the Caribbean their ancestors came off the same slave ships…that is the only origin and history any of them have…the crap created for them by UK in the last 6 decades does not count..it has already fallen apart.

As the relation is so strong between African descended people, the only thing they need is to build cohesiveness among themselves and stop allowing the usual suspects of demonic countries to continue the divisiveness and create new phases of torment and theft of everything they own.

The issue I have with Comissiong is again the way Latino countries, Venezuela included, treats their African descended populations with brutality and keep them steeped in poverty and now got the nerve to be talking about reparations for people of African descent for the slave trade, so who is collecting that money or whatever on behalf of African descendants, surely not the same latino criminals who marginalized, brutalized and murdered the same Africans, while still today keeping them in poverty…..and Comissiong trying to make it a joint effort.

….I have a real problem with that, particularly with Venezuela which enjoyed decades of oil wealth and not even once did they share that wealth with their African population for building the country..but are now trying to get their hands on reparations for the same African population…..oh really?

As with all of them, Comissiong too will have to be watched very carefully.

    .

  21. If we’re honest, we’ll admit that, unlike certain individuals who claim to have given politicians certain advice, which is usually after the fact, while they criticize every shiite in Barbados…….

………..Commisiong is prepared to put his money where his mouth is, by using his his own resources to fight injustices in the system on behalf of Barbadians.

Whether one likes him or not, he must be given kudos for his actions.

I congratulate him on his appointment.

Commisiong cannot perform any worse than Kellman or Bobby Morris.

  22. DC does choose sometimes noble causes …. but often times he gets it wrong!!

That’s the power of choice each of us has!!

It can be uplifting for the individual …. but it can also pull down the individual.

Choice – the magic and reality of life!!

  23. Looks like a hurricane close by, Beryl.

Could weaken as upper level winds shear off the top.

Plot looks it will pass to the north east of us.

    For the moment, keep watching.

Beryl is a name I always associate with Pudding and Souse on Saturday.

Not that I ate much, but siblings always got from her.

She died well into her 90’s.

Gave her a puppy years ago.

  24. congrats dc

comrade chairman dc has opposed the hyatt due to improper procedures and secondly in that it did not fit into the architecture of the area,

I was hesitant to comment on the rise of this Judas Iscariot.

And for a while I pondered whether to let David Come Sing A Song remain elevated in the shade of his ambassadorial Role facsimile of the Hunkie Corner Tree at Harsun College or to speak to this betrayal.

But then de ole man said No

I could not sit quietly and allow Come Sing A Song AND, note carefully that AND, the Honourable Blogmaster to persist in this coolaid

When I read the excrement sorry narrative which went thusly “…If the blogmaster had to chose a Barbados Man of the Year Ambassador David Comissiong would win in a no contest…” de ole man nearly fall down out me chair.

Perhaps you may want to tell us how he often gets it wrong?

If, for example, you agreed with the finger printing of travellers, which Commisiong opposed, took the matter to Court….and won……..maybe in your opinion he got it wrong.

But you must also extend your criticism to the Court as well, because it agreed with the evidence he presented and ruled in his favour.

  32. A superior pick to Morris and Kellman. Similarly, the CBC Board and persons designated as top diplomats to Canada, Washington DC and the UN.
Leff Mariposa and company. They just don’t get it. All those asking about Commissiong’s lawsuit should remember that the Court ruled that Commissiong as a citizen of Barbados had locus standi to challenge the decisionmaking process. Not as a lawyer, or activist, BLP sympathiser, Mia cousin or communist; but as a citizen. Instead of opposing for opposing sake, they should file court documents.
By the way, why is Mark Maloney so quiet?

Congrats to DC. A role which is well suited for his passions. He will end up at the top of the Caricom heap in time to come. I do not share all his views, but he is no fool.

as far as “Comissiong has received an assurance from government that it will proceed with the Hyatt deal in a way to not conflict with his public call”, the only assurance he should have received is an EIA will be done and submitted ASAP.

  36. I sang in the Mariposa’s choir for a short time.

A man has to do what is best for himself and his family. Look at a next post see how Mariposa would carry on if the man was unable to support his children.

The smell and optics of his last set of actions are not the best, but, previously, he displayed (to me) a sound character.

I agerre that the brother has been muzzled ; he will be missed, but he must also do what is best for himself.

There is of course another side of this that neither you nor the Honourable Blogmaster know of.

And therein lies the meat of this matter as to this So Called Champion to Ye Sheeple and the true nature of the man

And to him who readers and hath understanding I give you the 4th verse chapter 5 of the Bhavagah Got A “…The Supreme Lord said: Both you and I have had many births, O Arjun. You have forgotten them, while I remember them all, O Parantapa…”

  43. @ pieceuhderockyeahright,

This Comissiong appointment is just what should be expected in Barbados.

BLP, DLP, family friends and who zooming who.

Hyatt will get built. The questions is how much the investors will pay to renovate neighboring Churches and buildings.

Waiting to see who will be the new Toronto posse (Consul General and BTA )

  44. The more converts Commisiong gather the more i am convinced i am on the right track of a conclusion that this mans deeds are camouflage of commuinist indoctrination and wrapped in democractic principles which he smartly used by way of the court
Then who can say he is wrong
However since he has another side which he carries on his sleeve relentlessly to oppose democractic principles and ideaolgies in my mind he becomes a suspect and a person who cannot be trusted
When last or if at any time has Commisiong fight for the rights of the venezuelan people but would angrily blame the Western Democratic countries for the venzeulean plight even though the people of venezuela are fleeing for safety loooking for basic necessities far away from a dictatorship regime and looking for cover under the bosoms of democractic nations
I for one would never be swayed by his sweet words his legal abilties or any form of intellect he possess
As far as i am concerned he is chink in the armour a fly in the oil and one that should be removed.
A ticking time bomb that if given his way all others might find themselves heading for the highway.
OSA knew that Freundel Stuart knew that and all other narbadian leaders with whom he had crossed their paths
Mia election is now the golden moment and the dream of which Commissiong had awaited to make the change a change no one sees coming but himself

  45. The Hyatt eould never be built the investors are not fools. Hyatt has a barrage of lawyers who would be suspect of a communist who is an adviser to govt
Commisiong yea or nay will not matter ..further more who will trust or invest in a country who has defaulted on its debt and have the IMF living on its doorbsteps
Any talk about the Hyatt project coming from govt is simply smoke and mirrors
The hyatt is dead thanks to Commissiong again
However the voices in unisom sings
    Viva Commissiong

  47. WW so you too question DC’s priorities regarding being a Communist versus Pan Africanism? The Leftist mentality tends to rule these types of illogical, non empirical evidence minds. Their form of Leftist thought will always garner excellent results except like in Venezuela,Cuba, Russia, China and NOKO et al, indeed all others in practice. They lack the ability to rationalise that the majority of humans require incentive while some require disincentive ie either carrot or stick. Been so for at least 10,000 yrs and will most likely be always the case. Why did China, Russia, and even Cuba more recently appreciate this?

  48. “This Comissiong appointment is just what should be expected in Barbados.”
    +++++++++

Exactly. And by these types of appointments, the BLP has been continuing along a similar path of the DLP.

I recall all those who used their positions as talk show modetrators, political analyst, etc to opposed the BLP prior to th 2008 general elections, were rewarded with picks as senators, ambassadors and on statutory boards. Even losing DLP candidates were similarly rewarded.

Rather than condemn these practices, the roles have now changed…….
……..with the DLP operatives hypocritically criticizing these appointments, when they know the DEMS appointed their lackeys under similar circumstances……

…….while the BLP operatives are praising them.

    Government is definitely a continuum.

  49. MoneyB…it’s the right era to question all their motives, since none of them, the leaders in the Caribbean societies with the actual power to do so have even bothered to dismantle the very institutions of racism and disenfranchisement that continues to blight the lives of African/Caribbean people, yet they holler and hoot at everything and waxing on and on about struggles, all without actually doing anything to change the centuries old tired dynamics and causes.

Given this unique information age, I am very suspicious about intent particularly regarding the reparations movement…when I see Caribbean leaders actually dismantle the weapons and tools still being used to rob their black populations, tools and weapons they themselves wield very competently I might add, then I will start taking them seriously…that also includes Comissiong..until that day, they are just being nuisances the whole lot of them..
