Wuh Mia Do Arthur Doah

There is the saying politics makes for strange bedfellows. There is another that Barbadians have short memories.

The political machinations being played out in the build up to general election day on 24 May 2018 has become all so predictable. The accusations and counters, the tit for tat bombshells being lobbed across the political divide is how the nature of local politics must be characterized. Regrettably occurring at a time all economic and social indicators point to a chronic state of decline.

It is all very déjà vu  isn’t it?

The political bombshell lobbed by the former Prime Minister Owen Arthur at Prime Minister in waiting Mia Mottley that she was complicit in a decision to waive fees on a transaction her father Elliot Mottley was party continues to choke the news channel. It is noteworthy Arthur was unable to confirm wrongdoing but went ahead James Comey style and released the information 9 days before the general election. Keen observers would not have been surprised that Arthur has emerged at this time after listening to Prime Minister Stuart et al leave the political gate open at the Carlisle Park meeting last weekend.

What is playing out was orchestrated between Arthur and the DLP.

It has become patently obvious Owen Arthur and members of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) have colluded to attack Mottley at a time when the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) and its leader are at the most vulnerable. It has not escaped the blogmaster that Arthur’s press conference was facilitated by Barbados Today (BT) headed by Kaymar Jordan.

Here is the BT facilitated Owen Arthur press conference for those who missed it.

The BU family et al is invited to watch the following Owen Arthur presentation in parliament dated August 2011 to appreciate how strange bed fellows are formed. To suggest Arthur took a shellacking by those accepting his every word in 2018 speaks for itself.

    Your political panties are showing

You have joined the bandwagon of those who would prefer silence instead of a look into internal party intrigues.

You have deliberately ignored the evidences cited and have gone for a speculation which favours one contender.

This missive serves to walk back what we already know about these issues

There could be only one reason for that, by a man who obsessively lives by fresh information.

You have found statements from the past to try to discredit present stances. It is an attempt unworthy of you.

This revisionist approach is the kind of thing you, yourself, have previously opined about.

However OSA an astute and seasoned politican and political leader did what was right to defend his name against salacious allegations which can tarnish if left unanswered
Mottley on the other hand just as she has done when sordid accusations are level against her prefers to remain mute prefering to let the blp brigade take the fire of condemation for her
OSA has read the tea leaves and read them correctly by asking himself what does he have to lose to which he might have replied Absolutely nothing

However, Mia’s best approach would be to have one of her more senior colleagues, say Marshall, make ONE statement dismissing his interference as irrelevant at this point and state clearly that they are only focusing on critical issues and tell the electorate to ignore red herrings and pay attention to real issues of today.

    And end it there.

Hear laughing at Bobby Morris trying to trick people as to why he ask CTUSAB to agree to give jobs to two big backers of the DLP. These DLP operatives like BOBBY were happy when the DLP controlled the two major unions for over thirty years and pressured only BLP governments.

Mr Arthur was a frequent visitor to my home a while back as he was a friend of a friend who is a regular at my home…..so one would understand how painful it is to see what he is doing to the BLP.

He has become a bitter indifferent man….. more so since 2013. Even the former campaign manager said he is finished with him. One wonders why is he acting so…….is his family life in tatters?

Kaymar Jordan has an agenda……….he is her go to for everything anti MAM and BLP. Nothing they do or say will change minds…….people’s minds are made up. People see him for what he is….he feels entitled to be PM but surprisingly…..not MAM.

I well remember when he came back as leader of the BLP……..everything was honky dory and on the final night of campaign, he begged the people on Bay Street to give him back his job…….and it is only MAM who feels she is entitled to be PM.

I am not surprised at all that he has resurfaced…….I told a friend of mine that he would come out in the last week and surprise, surprise he is back!

However, you can see that the information cited by the PM and Finance Minister at Carlisle Car Park might have been influenced by the Former PM who was hoping to lie in bed with the enemy. Probably the former PM is suffering from CML (Convenient Memory Loss) and is hoping that minutes of meeting would have been placed in File 13. Listening to the end of video 2 will proof that the former PM is abusing the truth.

Owen Arthur’s press conference is so disheartening. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Will we still have our Pride and Industry on which to fall back if we persist in fostering DISUNITY as a people? These two national values will rather hinder our recovery than help. We should not be drawn into a general election until the economy is at very least stabilized and the doldrum of the Summer months is over for which all parties need to put away their hatchets and pull the ploughs together.

  • I listened to all 59 minutes of the news conference and conclude that people are hearing what they want to hear. Arthur spent a few minutes on the Mottley “tax waiver” request and said he declined to act on it and if it was done without his knowledge Ms. Mottley would have to speak on it, from that I gather the ball is in Ms. Mottley’s court to deny or confirm. He spent the majority of the time prosecuting the Gov’t and its handling of the economy, he also advised that the prescription offered by the BLP was woefully inadequate and in his opinion the only choice Barbados has to rectify the problems that we face is to approach the IMF for solutions.

The focus on Mia/Arthur by some is just a reinforcement of partisan positions held by some of the bloggers and ignores the other significant points in the news conference.

To be fair, your above comment is not entirely correct. In 2003 the Arthur administration sold 57% of shareholding to Republic Bank.

In 2010 Republic Bank made an offer to purchase the remaining 28% of government’s shareholding, which was refused by the “current” DLP administration.

However, in 2012, the Barbados government reversed its position and accepted a REDUCED offer for shares in Barbados National Bank because of continuing financial concerns.

Recall then Central Bank Governor Delisle Worrell saying in October 2012 that for the first nine months of the year that the country’s foreign reserves had dropped by US$108 million to $1.3 billion, representing around four months of imports of goods and services.

The sale of all remaining shareholding would have resulted in approximately US$83M in the Barbados economy at the time.

The ability for them to borrow money to buy a big house .never mind that they have to pay a mortgage many of which they cant afford. They also bought into a false sense of conviction that less taxes would help build the economy because it puts money in their pockets
However most of that money was funneled to overseas markets as barbadians having a taste for the good life took a preference to buying im foreign markets than at home
OSA perception of a great economist is hard and fasten to what bajans were not privy to see on the books as he pursue vodoo economics triggered by high borrowing and spending on projects that never seen the light of day

Thank you. Yu are very perceptive. Mr Arthur ruled over a debt-ridden nation, the price of which we are still paying. This, I suggest, is a sign of economic failure.

    Like

  • The one and only reasons bajans would not buy into a similar argument as that as OSA is because Sinckler had to implement measures built on preventing barbados socio-economic enviroment from further slipping down a quadmire of chaos while having to tackle high debt
The govt having to call on citizens to help pull the overloaded fiscal wagon which in effect meant taking money out of their pockets and most not wanting to believe or buy into the idea of putting country first with a question mark of “what about me”
Rather instead looking back on a past adventure of blp policies as the way forward
Most bajans have not come to terms that the country interest is now buried and attached to a past of self interest which has now come back to haunt all and sundry
Giving Sinckler any credit by most would be hard as human beings our first survival is to self while Sinckler policies were for the most part geared to the survival of the country around the idea of keeping barbados social programs intact.

The same Dr Mascoll that Mr Arthur put so much trust in that he literally handed over the Ministry of Finance to him during the last term of BLP government. Dr Mascoll has been referred to as a brilliant mind by Mr Arthur. Does anyone here think that Dr Mascoll would be capable of crafting a financial plan for this nation and the BLP that is so bereft of value that it would bankrupt the economy? The Frundel Fools are not capable of interpreting a sound financial plan if they were hit in the face with it.

Spiteful Mr Arthur needs to slink quietly into the abyss of insignificance before he does more damage to what used to be an illustrious political reputation. Be reminded dear sir, that he who is without sin should cast the first stone.

What most blp supporters refused to realise that the global economy to which barbados is tied can be volitile and harsh and its impact on small island nations can be equally devastating and forgiving
Mr. Mascoll is endorsing Mia plans founded on faith hope and wishful thinking with a belief that Mia plans can be brought forward into barbados hostile enviroment as a corrective measure of ease to peoples pocketbook which in effect would be a short-term but long term unsustainable taking the country back to how it all started via borrowing and spending.
