Young Democrats offering tuition scholarships

Subject: Young Dems Educational Grant Programme Application Form and Poster
From:
youngdemocratsbarbados@****l.com

To: Dear Comrades,

On Thursday 17th  August, 2014, the Young Democrats lunched it’s Educational Grant Program. The Young Dems launch this initiative to target students in need of assistance to meet their financial requirements as they enter their respective educational institutions. This program came as a result of the noticeable number of students who are unable to pay their fees or even afford the necessities for school. Therefore, the aim of this program is to provide some students with educational grants to pay for their economic costs.

If you or anyone you know need assistance with funding for school, apply for the Young Dems Educational Grant Today!

The persons who are eligible :

  1. Students entering secondary school;
  2. 1st year full-time BCC students pursuing a 2 year                    programme;
  3. 1st year SJPP students;
  4. Full-time UWI students;
  5. Barbados Vocational Training Board Student.

Application Forms may be collected at DLP headquarters, George Street, Belleville, downloaded off the Young Democrats Facebook Page or requested via email: youngdemocratsbarbados@gmail.com. Deadline for Applications is Friday 15th August, 2014⌚

Please also see the attached Application Form and Poster below for more information.

  1. Stupse…this is so wrong.

  2. How were the sponsors Jada (we know about Jada’s intention), icbl (how does senior management rationalize this support?),COB (How do the members feel about this use of funds?) and Infra (whoever this is) encouraged to contribute to the fund?

How will the fund be managed?

  3. So this grant to public is to subsidize Government only not the private institutions.

1st year and not last year secondary school student (books, petty fees CXC’s, uniforms where applicable).

    Interesting grants.

Barbados must be touched by this Youthful act by the arm of the DLP.

We say thank you, little with content is great gain.

    Some will be helped.

  4. What’s happening at the Ministry of Youth, Culture, Sports? Phones not being answered, place in darkness even security officer wasn’t present.

  5. Where is the money coming from ?

  6. @Wily

You need to slow down and read.

Look at the link to the poster which is linked at the bottom of the post and check the logos.

The Young Democrats should be telling their elders in the DLP that their policies are hurting the country and destroying Errol Barrow’s legacy, and try to get them to reverse their backward education policy. We do not need the Young Democrats sourcing funds to use in a partisan way. If the students or their families are not DEMS would they be entitled to grants and scholarships too?

  8. I would like to get hold of the lady who was dismissed from the NCC whose daughter was going to be the first in the family to go to UWI to apply. This young lady would truly be deserving of a scholarship. Anyone thinks she would be eligible as her mother was classified as a Bee by the black lip politico!

THEY BUSY COLLECTING MONEY TO SPEND ON SPORTS PROGRAMMES WUH LOSS!

  10. Young Democrats”5. Selection of awardees shall be based on performance merit and EVIDENCE OF FINANCIAL NEED and the selection decisions of the Educational Grant Committee shall be final. ”

I am wondering how the Young Democrats will determine financial need since applicants are not asked to provide any financial documents, bank or credit union statements, income tax statements, or such like that would help to determine the family’s/student’s income level/financial need.

  12. Our nation ‘losing its way’

Barbados has grown far from its roots and is no longer the gem of the Caribbean, claims Lisa Haynes, chief innovation officer of the Tennessee, United States-based Chattanooga State Community College.

  13. As soon as I get back to Barbados, I will be withdrawing my savings from COB and put it in the first world country bank (Scotia/RBC/CIBCFirst Caribbean . I am not in agreement with my funds being used by the DLP operatives under the guise of helping needy students.

  14. @ can’t wait……hope u never come back..,,u ole selfish goon…

  15. @Can’t Wait

To be fair we need to hear the rational why a contribution was made. Usually companies contribute equally to all political parties. Of late we have seen companies going with the PIP approach.

  16. @BU
At the last COB AGM in June 2014, nothing was said about this partnership wit the Young Democrats. We the members need to have a say in how our funds are being used. The Young Democrats should have gone to Public Workers Credit Union. It has become the feeding tree of the DLP.

No wonder a very large number of COB members are only using the credit union as a “transit” for their salaries. Now I understand.

  17. So let me see if another of the “ole selfish goons” gets this one right.

The DLP decides to charge for UWI education which, while understandable, is unceremoniously thrown onto the population ONE TIME.

The Minister of Fine Ants cannot be moved from this position of one time to a compromise of iterative impositions.

I am part of de union AND, as an item of significance – the use of CU funds, this information is not made a matter of public note among membership, but, and here is the kicker, the Youth Arm of the same DLP political party, not only knows about it but is central in orchestrating said grant facility.

So one hand taketh away (ALL) and the next hand giveth (some part thereof back) sorry not back, that would assume remittance but rather coopts resources from another kiity to give brownie points to the child of the parents that took the resources in the first place.

    Who is advising the DLP?

Do they really believe that this is sowing brownie points for the aspiring DLP politicians?

THe only question that remains if if St Lucy or St John going follow the trend cause right now, barring the return of the Saviour, it is 28-2 AT LEAST.

  18. Piece……..all of that is political gimmicks to haul in the vulnerable young people who are financially challenged, they are just killing two birds with one stone, more of the same and nothing changes.

  19. @David

    “Infra (whoever this is)”

These DEMS have no shame. By their actions, they are depriving the most vulnerable of higher education, and now they are seeking to make the persons who they disadvantaged to come cap in hand begging for handouts, so that these people would be beholden to them. What makes it more reprehensible is that the Young Democrats are becoming just as nasty as their elders. Further, COB credit union is NOT a sponsor of this activity. These young Dems have shamefully included COB as a sponsor without the knowledge of the Board of Directors.

  21. @Wily

Very good here is the link you should have posted. http://www.infrabarbados.com/about/

  22. @David

“To be fair we need to hear the rational why a contribution was made.”

Wake Up and smell the roses — it’s but another DLP Vote Buying scenario and leveraging companies that get DLP major government contracts.

It’s not ROCKET SCIENCE just CORRUPTION one oh one.

  23. @Caswell

Further, COB credit union is NOT a sponsor of this activity. These young Dems have shamefully included COB as a sponsor without the knowledge of the Board of Directors.

The above is hard to digest. What is COB doing about it? We assume that they are doing something.

I have referred this post to the acting president, who was unaware of the matter until I drew it to her attention. It is my understanding that the board will address it at their next meeting.

    >

  25. Thanks Caswell, it remains a tough swallow that the Young Democrats used the logos without permission, wonder if it is the same for the other companies listed.

  26. @David

Back to my original question “Where is the money coming from”, now it would appear that some/all of the supposed sponsor companies are not really sponsors.

This whole scenario SMELLS as the DLP announced recently that a grant program would be forthcoming and suddenly the Young Democrats announce such a program. This does not pass the SMELL test.

I have the same concerns. COB credit union was approached for assistance even though co-operatives are required to be apolitical. An employee, without the knowledge and consent of the Board of Directors, gave them $500 and those bastards went about misleading the country that the credit union was somehow involved in this scheme.

    >

  28. thanks Caswell for the clarification. I was at the last AGM and nothing like this was disclosed to the membership.

  29. I am a long time member of the City of Bridgetown Credit Union (COB) and I know NOTHING about this.

I am vexed as hell that the Young Democrats (or any other body) would use the name and the logo of our Credit Union without our knowledge or consent.

  30. I have some questions, most bloggers are referencing this imitative as a GRANT, however the Young Democrats poster calls it a SCHOLARSHIP.

There are some differences between the two, ie: check out the following definition—-

“Most scholarships are merit based. This means that they are awarded to students with certain qualities, such as proven academic or athletic ability. Many scholarships have rules — maintaining a certain GPA, for example — that you have to follow to continue receiving aid.

Most grants are need based. This means that they are usually awarded based on your or your family’s financial situation.”

You can see that if in fact this initiative is a SCHOLARSHIP program then it’s MERIT based. Most Bloggers are assuming it’s GRANT based, humm.

Like DAVID TOLD Wily Coyote, SLOW DOWN AND READ CAREFULLY.

I see one blogger suggested one of the supposed sponsor companies gave $500.00Bds, It would seem this EXTREMELY LOW LEVEL OF SPONSORSHIP SUPPORT would doom the initiative to FAILURE.

    Any Thoughts.
