    @Well Well
Some people whine and cry about whatever…..I, with the data base and internet knowledge that I have at my disposal, will do something about it. When it comes to your dirty little island and with the reputation that it has (Of being completely corrupt)….well it goes without saying that I am and will dig up everything that I can get.
Because of your bought off government officials and their allowing Canada Drugs and Mr. Tom Haughton to operate there and to ship their counterfeit drugs worldwide….a close friend of mine died and I will not allow this to transpire ever again mo matter who I have to battle. Yes I am a social activist and dam proud of the fact. If more people would get the guts and stand up against the corruption then this world would be a much better place.
So get off your butt and make a stance!!!!!

    @David
Some people sit at their computer and push buttons without the know how or knowledge to gain any information……Personally I have both the means and knowledge to obtain whatever information that I need to obtain. I am very versed in getting and compiling info no matter what the source.

  2. @ Caswell

The minister is reported “saying that many people do not read your column”.

This is why I like Canadian reporters. They would have asked him a simple question.
How could he possibly know how many people read a column in a newspaper?

Caswell, we believe what you say about Dennis Clarke.
The same thing applies to Leroi Greenverbs and the millions paid to him as gratuities via the David T laundry machine with some ending up in the DLP election campaign coffers.
Yet the current MoF has the lying bold-faced effrontery to say he will be going after tax cheats and frauds to ensure the Treasury gets what is due to it.

What a big joke. Please Dr. IMF, please come and rescue this country from the corrupt arms of the politicians and their friends

  4. Hants…….you gotta remember, these particular crop of Ministers are not the brightest bulbs or the sharpest knives in the drawer…lol

The programme was designed to help the minister improve his image. Did the host ask the Minister any hard questions? He would have ran from the studio if he was challenged by a reporter worth his salt.

  6. A very true and riveting position from Rev. Rogers of St. Luke’s Church this morning.

Those who are employed in the Public Service of Barbados and are just going to work and sit and wait on a pension….then those workers need to go home !

The Rev. could have been preaching about the Cabinet. They are doing nothing but just hanging on to qualify for a pension, while destroying the country in the process.

  8. “The irony is that the BSTU was criticized by all and sundry for the action they took during the AX Mess BUT they had the funds to pay their workers if required. The BWU and the NUPW despite its size cannot do the same. How telling”

I do not know of any Union in the world which would have sufficient funds to to pay their workers’ wages/salaries if they were on strike particularly for a prolonged period. Perhaps a stipend but certainly not a full salary/wage.
With respect to the ability of the BSTU to pay over 400 members on strike; I can safely say your information is incorrect.

  9. Hal Austin,

There are similar and different perspectives from which we are coming as it relates to notions of class, race, status, sectors, etc, at this stage in Barbados.

Without getting to much into analysis at this stage, here is what we are saying and saying about where our FUNDAMENTAL INTERESTS generally lie – according to humanity, race, class, status, sector categorizations, as a party, and especially via our many ideologies philosophies and psychologies – which themselves are expressed in, or do give expression to, our various social political material and financial policies and positions as pronounced enunciated publicly.

And unless we state otherwise by use of the appropriate and unequivocally clear language whenever, the following stands.

We are primarily interested in thoughts and deeds of humanity, wheresoever whosoever they are, and as such this concept called humanity not only acts as a precondition and indication of not only an attempt to rationalize and understand many things social political material and financial where so ever, when ever, but also as a basis upon which to reasonably assume and conclude upon so many things humanity wise – historical or current – social political material and financial of this country, this region, and this world, and also as a precondition, indication, assumption and conclusion that so many other persons would be looking primarily at humanity/things specific to humanity, when they think act in such social, political material financial ways.

We are secondarily interested in notions and actions driven by race/ethnicity in similar ways ( a precondition, indication, assumption, conclusion), in making many reasonable assessments about many things racial/ethnic – and being so specific to race/ethnicity – historical or current – and in similar contexts (social, political, material, financial) – similar to how we have been using (not seeing analysing ) notions and actions of humanity and in similar ways, how so many persons of other races ought will treat to notions of race, even ethnicity. Such approaches are themselves so, whether or not there are considerations specific to class, status – including professional statuses, embedded in our analyses approaches.

Thirdly we are for notions actions of the masses (who we regard as the poor and who are at the bottom of the social ladder in this country irrespective of race/ethnicity, status). And again we are using such notions, actions and experiences specific to the masses in ways and in assessing for things of the masses and in such contexts as if we were treating to notions and actions of humanity, race, ethnicity, class, status, as seen above in 1 and 2, in their own ways – thus however not in ways we would treat to notions actions of the masses. Included in such historically or currently informed thinking is how when why many of/from different classes behave the way they do towards the masses.

Fourth we are for the notions and actions of the middle classes and treating to those things specifically related to them and in the ways and contexts dealt with in the above three segments. Included in these historical or current analyses and approaches are how the other classes think about and behave towards the middle classes.

Then fifth we look at status (including professions) in ways similar to how we would do with 1, 2, 3, above, but in its own way, historically and current. Added is how others of the same or different statuses would be thinking about and behaving towards others of the same or different statuses.

Sixth are sectors of people – productive, commercial, social, personal, household, domestic, national – and again we follow the above principles still knowing there are similarities and differences as are found in notions actions of humanity, race, class, etc at different points of historical and present day analysis.

Note that we have no interest whatsoever in directly supporting the ruling oligarchs of Barbados – irrespective of whatever the humanity, race, status or sector. Such oligarchs will only get our indirect support or sympathy of whatever kind when we are primarily dealing with issues specific to humanity, race, status, sectors and they are intimately connected with these issues. Furthermore, we wish no support or sympathy of any kind from any ruling oligarchs for anything, unless humanitarian or national sectoral concerns are at the forefront of such oligarchic assistance. Also there can be no scratching of our backs and our scratching of your backs.

When these notions and actions of these different humanities, races, classes, statuses or sectors are agreeing or conflicting within or between or among one another in respect of how there are generally dealt with as described above, we adopt the general and or other different – old or new – ways of dealing with explaining such human, racial, class and status sectoral issues or problems – or of fundamentally stating why our thinking policy initiative are these way or not.

Finally there are often reasons why even when there is general ideological philosophical psychological political moral support sympathy given by the PDC for ideas actions of things in the interest of humanity, in the interest of a particular race, of a certain class, status, sectors, why there are specific case by case instances of reasonable necessary non-support or criticisms for certain beliefs or actions of particular persons or groups of persons within the humankind, within the given race, class, status, sectors, and either standing alone as such, or being a cross or bi section of humanity, racial, class, status or sectoral considerations, respectively. Such must not be construed by any one as no longer giving support for the wider people or groups or sectors of people and their especially positive ideas, actions and causes.

I suppose the same way Mr Arthur’s cheque became public knowledge.

“With respect to the ability of the BSTU to pay over 400 members on strike; I can safely say your information is incorrect”

You may need to qualify that dogmatic assertion Charles boy……
…..how do you know that the BSTU were not thinking about paying the teachers based on the value of the work that they actually do….?

…in which case, the union could pay them indefinitely…. 🙂

  14. @ PDC

How do you define middle class? How do you differentiate between the ‘ruling oligarchs’ and the professional middle class?
There are fundamentally two definitions of class: the normative sociological and the Marxian. Which are you subscribing to, or are you re-defining the concept of class?

    What would you do?

Are we in agreement that these excess workers were NEVER really needed in the system?
Additionally, Is it a fact that we CANNOT afford the cost of paying them….?
Are these people TEMPORARY? (i.e. hired for a specific and agreed period of time)

Man too far east is west!

That is shiite and it MUST be corrected – otherwise the whole ship will sink…..

  23. In the AX Mess were all 40 teachers on strike? Did BU state they full salaries would have been paid? Comprehension is wonderful thing. Do international banks make internal records available?

  24. @ Hants

The Barbadian dollar is over-valued. What more proof do we want?

    @ Daviud

Regulators have the power to move in to banks unannounced and cart away as many documents as they like. I am sure the central bank of Barbados is planning to do this to the foreign-owned banks.

  25. @Hal

  28. I am putting it to you that whether 40 teachers or 400 teachers were on strike; the BSTU would not have the funds required to pay them full or half especially with their obvious legal battles to contend with first. Legal representation for industrial relations matters does not come cheap. That is why in bygone days when Workers were not so comfortable and had little to lose by way of mortgages, conspicuous luxuries etc and recognized the collective power of the unions as their hope and saviour against unscrupulous employers, Workers were willing to march and strike against all odds for better conditions, the infelicities of the union leadership notwithstanding. As a public servant, the General orders are clear. ‘You would not be paid when you are on strike’. So when I marched 1n 1991, I was not paid nor did I expect to be paid from the Government or the Union because even though the Union of which I was a member did have a ‘strike Fund’ , I was aware that the monthly contributions to the ‘strike fund’ were not sufficient to pay all the striking workers.

  29. Further to what Charlie has rightly said about union assets and benefits, strike days are/should be deducted from one’s eligible pensions entitlement.
On a political note, the unions are weak at present and any responsible government should confront them. We need labour reform to escape this economic predicament and if not now, then when will government hold the unions to account?
Union Godfathers against the nation. Who do you support? People with mortgages and bills to pay must make a decision.

  30. You can have the last word, it is academic. You know what you know and BU knows what we know.

  34. Bravo Caswell boy we always knew you had at least one readable article in you and it came out on Sunday. Your column shone amidst the forgettable crap you usually spew. You believe you could come with a second piece that makes sense?

The DLP branch meeting in a obscure constituency in the North on Sunday had more people than Mia’s national assembly. Cuh dear Mia you staring more failure in the face. Quit while you behind. The assemblies have no traction and are obviously irrelevant. Who listens to Belle and Straughan?

Today COW like Caswell in Sunday Nation makes for common sense reading . COW correctly puts some warm lashes in Dr. Fraser and goes on to make positive points. We need to hear you in that vein more COW. Leave out the self serving rubbish you dish up based solely on the twist of race fate that see you end up with a large piece of change. Think nationally for all Barbadians not only for an elite minority.

  35. The priest cannot be so disingenuous to disregard the ineffcient system whic defines the public service. You can’t simply blame the employees when public sector reform has been an abject failure.

  36. “Will Government hold Unions to account” … ha ha ha … Will a large enough grouping of people in Barbados hold Government to account would be a better opt.

Minister of International Business on radio yesterday … Public relations par excellence .. My friend is so arrogant now, so skilled in public discourse that he does not even need data to support anything that he is saying. The target market of course is the embarrassingly large population of simpletons that presently make up the voter base .. a haven for him and Ellis.

Register the political Parties as legitimate institutions with specified guidelines and a supervising body. Maybe the Unions lead the charge

You know he is only serving his own interest. COW and Maloney in bed to build the new hospital for the GOB out by Waterford on the highway.

  38. What we really need is a properly functioning QEH. Then in terms of a second hospital, we have to look at the East of the country. If someone has a heart attack in St Andrew/St Joseph/St John, by the time an ambulance leaves Bridgetown/Christ Church, to get to them and then return they will long be dead.
In any case, who says COW would or should get the contract. Tenders should be opened to all Caricom building contractors for the main contract and then they be compelled to sub-contract parts of the work to smaller builders.
Government should think of paying COW (and Barrack) what money it owes him.

  39. Triangle ..i was wondering if someone other than Cow got the contract for building the new hospital which i understand is not needed but will just be a vehicle for more extortion, more bribes, more greed and more opportunities to make the already wealthy, greedy pigs on the island wealthier and greedier……….will cow still have the energy to attach Fraser?

  40. Should read:

Will cow still have the energy to attack Fraser??

  41. In saying that….there really need to be a health facility to the North of the Island that can handle triage and emergencies, guess what, I bet you Harris will open that facility shortly with the help of his political partners…..oh well!!

  42. Cow and Maloney working a deal with the Chinese, the Chinese will fund and construct by 30 % got to be for local content, hence why Maloney and COW pushing for a new hospital on COW’s land in Waterford.

  43. COW is just another parasite in Barbados. He is the one behind the plan to import and bag bulk cement at the Bridgetown Port to put Arawak out of business. Remember he has already called for Arawak to shut down and the workers there sent home.

  44. I hope the ministers and civil servants do not negotiate these contracts. It will be more beneficial to taxpayers if the government call in consultants to negotiate. What they save in costs will be a fraction of the fees paid out.

This, getting information on ones income and monies that they recieved, is very simple….
Mr. Tom Haughton transfered $1,500,00 into his account on your island…….simple to find when you know how…
Then certain people all the sudden had access monies (re:/ their spending habits, bank account balances, major purchaces ect.)
Then you trace their spending habits when compared to what they did prior to this date then after the date of exchange…… very simple if you have the tools and knowledge and ability to trace such.
Then when you have someone who’s spending habits and bank accounts don’t match their income then you statr digging…
How I do so and the contacts that I have are confidential but believe me they are very effective.
If you are making $500 per week and your spending habits and bank account ballance reflect such then all the sudden you have a large bank account or are making enpendatures that exceed your income (and after checking your credit history and seeing that your are not just running up bills) then you get red flagged…with this your expendatures and income will come under investigation.
As I stated…with the right connections and knowledge base anything is possable if aproched in the proper mannerism.
Then if you get some A-Hole (such as myself) on your trail then look out….any and everything that you do will come to light.

  49. “The Rev. could have been preaching about the Cabinet. They are doing nothing but just hanging on to qualify for a pension, while destroying the country in the process”.

Mr Rev./Priest, the people who do not do any work in this country are the appointed one. Go into the secondary schools and do a survey of the teachers carrying the bulk of the examination classes. The Year Heads and Head of Departments teach dome 12 periods, some 18 or 20 periods per week. The temporary teachers teach 28-30 periods per week. They take these periods without a fuss because they need to hold their jobs.

I would like the goodly Rev/Priest to go up at the Solicitor General’s Chambers. From Jennifer Edwards to Ms. Jordon, Ms.Brathwaite QC and Gasby are all just collecting a salary under false pretense. No productivity, Byer-Suckoo famous words. The public trustee files are in excess of 1,000 for the longest while and poor Barbadians are just being fooled all the time that something is being done and they will soon hear something about their matter.

. Drunking Adriel Brathwaite, Minister of Home Affair and Attorney General is out of his depth, (as like all the other members of the Cabinet) that he cannot even give direction to the chambers. Put all of those Deputies salaries and entertainment allowance and God knows what else they are entitled to together, a couple of the temporary workers jobs can be saved.

  50. Triangle….how can anyone be sure that is cow’s land, does he have original deeds, the chinese are known for building structures that are not sound…..of course there has to be a CATCH somewhere along the line, I hope it’s not the taxpayers who get caught, if it’s the politicians, i would not mind so much…
