At this epoch of Mankind’s evo­lu­tion, where democ­racy and respect for human rights are being immor­tal­ized as indis­pen­si­ble virtues which every soci­ety must pos­sess and are uni­ver­sal yard­sticks by which the actions of gov­ern­ments are mea­sured, it is almost incon­ceiv­able that there are still those who con­tinue to reject the idea of repa­ra­tions for descen­dants of African slaves. Recently, a book on the sub­ject by Pro­fes­sor Sir Hilary McD. Beck­les, pro-​vice chan­cel­lor at the UWI Cave Hill cam­pus a lead­ing activist and eco­nomic his­to­rian was pub­lished. Enti­tled Britain Black Debt: Repa­ra­tions for Caribbean Slav­ery and Native Geno­cide, it sets out a com­pelling case for Repa­ra­tions from Britain which can­not be coun­ter­acted by any of the sophisms and spe­cious rea­sons posited by cyn­i­cal detractors.

    Colonel………i was trying to help John see the pros of continuing the reparations lawsuit, but he is stuck in the belief that descendants of slaves have no right to sue the benefactors (who are very much alive) of slavery…he has a very narrow view and cannot for some reason see that this case will set a precedent, in other words, the descendants of slave masters alive and going forward will definitely not find it easy to enslave anyone else, the 30 million now modern day slaves will be able to pursue the culprits for their enslavement, and the potential slaves going forward will have very strong legs to stand on and fight when faced with the horrors and greed associated with trying to control other humans for monetary gain………..but as you can clearly see some people cannot see further than their own views.

    Once the Plaintiffs can isolate the Guilty parties and the process does NOT cost innocent people like myself any money then good luck and move with alacrity before the Western Nations declare Bankruptcy.     One modern day Slave problem that needs to be solved is that of Pimping out Prostitutes. Even in The West very little headway has been made in solving that brutal form of Slavery. Little or no progress has been made in North Africa with current Slavery in the Sudan and elsewhere. The situation in places like Equatorial Guinea require immediate attention and then decisive action by the African Union’s military.

    Personally my first priority would be to solve the current Slave problems and then worry about the Historical situation. After all there is unlikely to be any change to the Historical facts.

    Moneybrain………….solving the historical crimes and injustices perpetrated by Europe in the African slave trade might just be the key to solving modern day slavery………..it has just been made public that England abolished slavery but did not abolish the slave trade, means trading in slaves is quite legal these many decades later……….do you now see the pattern, it was just pointed out to one state in the US that their abolition of slavery had never been ratified, 150 years later, if not for a keen eyed guy last year, slavery would still be legal in that state and blacks were completely unaware, research still needs to be done to confirm that the culprits indeed made slavery illegal and not only just said so to appease others….lying as usual.

    John…….take note, your descendants still stand a chance of being traded as slaves 100-500 years from now, what do you think about that??? maybe you don’t mind.
