International Monetary Fund Gives Barbados Bleak 2014 Forecast

The opinion of IMF is as an influential player cannot be ignored in austere times.

The opinion of IMF as an influential player cannot be ignored in austere times.

We use to hear the objective was to build a society. However it has become all about the economy in recent months. Click on the image above to read the latest International Monetary Fund projection for the Latin America and Caribbean region.

Is the government levelling with Barbadians? Are we able to remove the partisan blinkers to have sight of the priority issues? Are we confident that the current suite of economic solutions on offer is appropriate?

  1. A blogger once pointed out that the difference between Haiti and other Caribbean countries is Tourism. Looks like a bit of bitter truth in that.

    • Here is the deal. The second quarter central bank review placed us close to the accepted minimum of 12 weeks. We know the country leaked 300 hundred million at the to of the year. The third quarter review which is due will be interesting to establish if the government’s recent strategy stopped the leak. We know the plan to enter the international market to raised flopped. If, and let us hope not, forx continues to leak it will be Houston we have a bigger problem.

The other issue is that we are not only dealing with leaking forex, remember cover protects the parity of our dollar. We also have a problem with not growing. The analogy we have used in the past is a plane stalling if it does not maintain a minimum speed. We have been experiencing negative growth for such a sustained period that we are about to stall.

  4. well seriously folk .u really believe that people gonna take wunna seriously with the constant drumbeat of DOOM and GLOOM… Really after a while it wears thin and people no longer interested . Really the gutter politics on BU a once strident and unbiased forum has reached LEVEL RED…..scorched and burn articles are the menu of the day…So what if the IMF have an opinion or an analysis is it the same IMF that gave advice that have some of these third world countries balls in a vice grip…. Barbados would survive despite of all the slings and arrows and the nasty tactics of journalist that seeks to destry , Even the manipulative Bizzy Williams couldn’t take it no more and shed some crocodile tears while admonishing those taking aim and fire at the Barbados economy….. steupsee LOUD

    • And to add. If Barbados is unable to raise money in the markets then it is the IMF we will have to turn. There is no where else to turn. The economic indicators are posted for all to draw conclusions. We are not making this up. To the partisans this is not. Bout preaching doom, it is about understanding the implications of where we are as far as economic performance is concern.

  5. Is this the same IMF that Sinkler and Worrell are now in Washington holding talks with about the Barbados economy……….Carson, am i still making sense?/

    • @Oilman

That is one interpretation but Barbados has developed a reasonable infrastructure and reserves over the years which has given us the capacity to absorb some hits. We are now at the point where we can’t take by more. What is sad is that as a country our leadership has not been able to mobilize a majority of stakeholders read citizenry, businesses to get on the same page. Six years later the level of rhetoric by this government is unbelievable.

  6. @ David
Having infrastructure and reserves to absorb hits does not mean we have not already stalled. In fact that is exactly de point. Once we running pon reserves it means that we not earning enough to sustain current levels of consumption.

    • @Oilman

That is what reserves are for, to act as a buffer to provide time to react. We have not been able to react.

  7. @David
You still missing de point. I not questioning what reserves are there for. What I trying to tell you that we using reserves cause we already stall.

  8. ac is looking forward to the next article and I told YOU … Standard and POORS,,,, how about that…….so predictable,,, politics or politricks,,,,,,,

  9. This situation is —
To be expected under the DLP

We will get back to good grounds under a BLP Government. It will be hard work but we will do it under the BLP

  10. Maybe there is a silver lining in these numbers, the governments have botched the economy so bad that a lot of economic immigrants will want to go back home

  11. What is very interesting is that when you click de table above and look at all de stats presented, only Barbados projected to got negative growth next year. LOL boy tings real brown. DLP yardfowls got to get real and look at de facts in relation to what goin on wid this economy.

    • @Oilman

It hurts to read this chart yet we have some here who avoid the issue facing the country by spouting unnecessary rhetoric. These numbers are from the IMF who visit the country and interviewed stakeholders read central bankers, Opposition, private sector etc. at this stage it is about our leaders doing what is required to get most on the same page.

  12. EVERY TIME , THE DLP FORMS THE GOVERNMENT, THEY DOES RUN DOWN THE COUNTRY. In the1986-91-94 period, they shut down Barbados; everything went down. BLP gets in –suddenly the country is firing on all cylinders and did so for 14 years -You don’t know that the stupid ignorant dogs called the DLP want to take credit for the 14 years of prosperity.

EVERY THING GETS DIFFICULT WHEN THE DLP GETS IN POWER AND THEY AND THEIR GULLIBLE SUPPORTERS COME UP WITH EXCUSES AND BLAME EVERYBODY ELSE.

You don’t know the DLP would want to take credit for the 14 years of prosperity under the BLP but they do not want to accept responsibility for what has transpired under Dem from 2008.

The DLP WANTS TO TAKE CREDIT for 14 years of prosperity but the BLP must be held responsible for what the DLP has done to this country from 2008—

This is the logic of a wicked political party that is contributing to polarization and the upsurge of violence in this country. That kind of logic resonates with their supporters and they in turn manifests this in illegal activities. Ask those criminals who are shooting up the country , bringing in drugs and committing crime which party they support or sold their votes to in the last BUY -ELECTION .

THEY ALL SUPPORT THE DEMOCRATIC LABOUR PARTY–ALL THE CRIMINALS

THE DLP IS A CRIME MANUFACTURING MACHINE. (statement of the year) THIS IS WHAT THEY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE COUNTRY. –CRIME AND VIOLENCE

    THE DLP IS BAD .
THE DLP IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NOT HAVE FORMED THE GOVERNMENT WITHIN 30 YEARS OF THE 91 -94 debacle of a Government.

PIECE OF WORK -THAT DLP PIECE OF SHIT

  13. @David
Wunnah can call me gloom and doom cause I don’t see no way out. In a previous post I did mek de point that de 4 day trip de MOF and GOB did mek to put dem bonds pon de market was de last ditch effort to prevent de collapse. Looking at that table I convince now that I did right.

Nothing not happening in this country. Thing is de biggest problem facing this country is a lack of confidence in the govment. Man any body who not politically bias would admit that this govment just ent cutting it. I honestly thought after de election we wouldah see a different approach to things but well, hope all in vain..

    • @Oilman

Some of course will not believe it but BU has no patience with this BLP or DLP BS many like to play. We read what the tea leaves tell us. We have become firmly of the view that it is time for Operation E11 to be mobilized AND with haste!

  14. Well….when you keep charging higher and higher taxes, backed up by higher and higher Vat and you are still receiving less and less……but keep charging more and more like a madd dog going after its own tail …. the result…..Farmville.

financial paralysis….no better still a self inflicted BLIGHT.

I ask again …who blight this rock?

  15. @David
Man I just want everybody in BU family to click that table above and realise that this excuse that it is de financial crisis that got we where we is, can’t hold water. Every single country pon that list projected to experience growth except Barbados.

  16. Another opinion from THE IMF
IMF admits mistakes on Greece bailout
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has admitted that it made mistakes in handling Greece’s first international bailout.
The IMF said it was too optimistic in its growth assumptions and said a debt restructuring should have been considered earlier.
Greece was granted a 110bn euro (£93bn; $145bn) bailout by the IMF and EU in May 2010.
Another 130bn euro rescue package was approved in February 2012.
    Modifying the rules
Greece’s first bailout came amid fears the country would default on its debts and that it could spark debt contagion in the eurozone.
The IMF has now released a study looking at the handling of the programme.
It admitted that it bent its own rules on exceptional access for the programme to go ahead.
To justify exceptional access, one of the four criteria that must be met is that public debt is sustainable in the medium term.
But the IMF said: “Even with implementation of agreed policies, uncertainties were so significant that staff were unable to vouch that public debt was sustainable with high probability,”
But staff wanted to go ahead with exceptional access because of fears that any spillovers from Greece would threaten the rest of the eurozone and the global economy.
The IMF then amended the criterion to where debt was not sustainable with high probability, “a high risk of international spillover effects provided an alternative justification”.

  17. I ask again …who blight this rock?

    THE DLP BLIGHT THIS ROCK
    THE DLP
    THE DLP
    THE DLP
DEMOCRATIC LABOUR PARTY AND ITS GOONS LED BY STINKLIAR, FUMBLE;, DOPEY AND BIG MOUT

  18. So from 0% in 2012 to -0.8% in 2013 to -1.1% in 2014. The economy can no longer be described as “stable”, it is clearly getting progressively worse.

  19. I thought captains were supposed to go down with sinking ships, did PM Stuart take a plane and abandon the sinking ship that is Barbados?

  20. Wait wunna think IMF is god .well think again. cause nuff of these problems start wid the IMF one fit policies…. 22. ac…
you just don’t get it nah..or you choose to ignore it….THINGS HAVE GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE.since 2008. Shutting eyes and playing ostrich just ain’t cuttin it anymore…..What bad times are we experiencing here that others are not? Ya mean you that daft?…Look at the chart woman….You mean even lil St. Vincent looking way above we?….ALL THE LIES and “don’t mind, don’t mind” stupidness and we still holding we head above water.. is BARE SHIITE…..Look is time something happens to stop this spiral NOW…. as there is no more time to play with !!!

  23. Hear Barbados’s worse nightmare Freundel Jerome Stuart in Canada…..”I am not dissatisfied with the performance of ministers whom I have appointed either in the House or in the Senate and therefore its not my contemplation to reshuffle my Cabinet”.
Right now CONFIDENCE will only return to the investment climate if the BLP takes the Government of Barbados, and furthermore only if OSA is the Minister of Finance. No one else can fit the bill at this time.

  24. you guys look at half or part of a picture to generalise and form conclusion..here is what the ……….2013 Index OF FREEDOM FOR ECONOMICS says about ST<VINCENT

By and large, open-market policies are not firmly institutionalized. Tariff and non-tariff barriers undercut trade freedom, and the investment regime lacks efficiency. More broad-based economic development beyond tourism and agriculture continues to be undermined by the undeveloped financial sector and the lack of long-term financing mechanisms. Despite some progress, the management of public finance remains poor, and the public debt burden has reached over 70 percent of GDP.

  25. With the CCJ’s recent ruling and the IMF’s negative prediction for Barbados, it will be a long time before we see that expected rush of Caricom citizens to this island to claim their piece of our highways, which many believed are paved with gold. Antigua, Dominican Republic , Haiti and Guyana offer better prospects.

  26. Still, we have a lot to be thankful for.Last Saturday night around 2200 hrs an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 with an epi-centre 19 miles north of Venezuela and 54 miles WNW of Port of Spain, shook Trinidad,Grenada,Dominica,St Vincent,Guyana,Martinique,Guadeloupe,Antigua and as far north as St Maarten.

  27. What Operation E 11, what?

    What does that mean?

    What trivia!!

This country is facing such serious fundamental inveterate social political material financial problems, that such puerility should not be veritably written at this stage.

What is clear too is this: that – having regard to Barbados’ post-independence history – it is these two idiotic factions that have been the ONLY ones that have been at the helm of domestic governments that have been presiding over our country’s long term material financial demise.

For, it is these wicked corrupt inept DLP BLP that have been responsible for bringing the country to this wretched ruinous dedevelopment stage, and that must – as soon as possible – be PERMANENTLY removed by the broad masses and middle classes of people of this country from the Parliament of this nation state.

Indeed, the fact that it is they that have been presiding over such miserable extensive declines is in itself logical proof that they are incapable of providing any serious solutions (partial) to these problems, and that therefore they cannot reasonably be part of any solutions (partial) to these problems.

And, it is not that these problems and the causes of them are unsolvable, substantially so. NOT AT ALL!!

What it is mainly, is that these jack o lantern DLP BLP factions do not have the requisite vision, perspicacity, competence, leadership ability, or political will to deal with many of these problems.

Indeed, there has to be a new progressive nationalist developmentalist coalition building people centered regime installed in Barbados, to take the country out of the monumental abyss it is in, and onto a new path of development (based on a new development model) .

    PDC

  28. If PM Stuart said that in Canada, does he not have the balls to say the same in Barbados? after all, ”I am not dissatisfied with the performance of ministers whom I have appointed either in the House or in the Senate and therefore its not my contemplation to reshuffle my Cabinet”……………… that is where he should be voicing his concerns, to bajans, not canadians…………..i saw him in todays’ nation voicing concern about hassle free travel, he is right that Barbados’ domestic immigration laws are intact and still have to be observed regardless, but the immigration officers are only now aware of the changes re community laws and should now be retrained, did Stuart not know of the community laws for the last 6 years??

He should be more concerned about the economy, QEH, Eager 11, etc, his plate is full……why does he make it seem like he sneaked back into the island………have they never heard media reports coming out of other countries that the President/Prime Minister is due back today………….????

  30. A heart patient having chest pain needs an experienced Heart Doctor not a lawyer to provide care and who is saying the patient is healthy.
Barbados needs Owen Arthur now more than ever. Politics needs to be put aside and the reality of the problem needs to be centre stage. A person with the capacity, experience and knowledge needs to take charge of this sick patient.
Barbadians need to open their eyes and get serious including the current leadership of the BLP and put the greater good of the island first ahead politics and personal aspirations.
It is only a mad person that continues doing the same thing despite the obvious results of his actions. Right thinking individuals in both parties need to act now and stop killing the patient.

  31. The IMF’s bleak outlook for Barbados shows once and for all that this political economic depression in Barbados has been created by the backward inept monetary financial fiscal policies of DLP and BLP governments over the years, and NOT created by any international environment or any international recession.

Note too that the basis for their outlook comes from statistics information provided by the government itself.

  32. Listen all wunna yard fowls, OWEN SEYMOUR ARTHUR CANNOT SAVE BARBADOS he cannot perform miracles! Barbados needs sound management now. When the economy was good no one was checking to see how well it was managed. Now we have a bunch of incompetents they don’t have the ability to manage AT ALL! We need people with a sound business management background to step forward to help us get out of this mess. BUT I am afraid of those who appear to have a sound business background may not be as sound as we need. Those who have not profited by Government graft, those who have brought businesses back from the brink. Do we anyone with CLEAN HANDS?

  33. What is needed is a human ( having both strengths and weaknesses) with the will, the skills and know how to work on the problems. NOT and I mean NOT Mr or Mrs perfect nor do we need a miracle. Barbados simply needs restoration of confidence, informed decisions making and prompt action to get out of this situation. A person having experience with the ship would valuable for the job.

  34. How de eager 11 go save de cuntry? Stupse. If you realise that de PM can’t touch a fellah cause he only got a razor slim majority in parliament, how any 11 go try to get rid of de PM as leader? 35. Well! the vultures are out in full force doing what they do best i.e “talking down the economy” and this too shall past. ” deja vue all over again.

  36. Practically every news item is showing that we are heading further down the precipice and that the external conditions is not to blame (see the table above). We can’t get back out with the current leadership and economic advisors. We can’t wait until 2018. Something has to be done soon.

    Re. the Eager 11, as I said then, it would have been best for the country if they had prevailed. They didn’t. But It would be best for the country now if there were a non-violent palace coup or agreement which would give us;

    a New PM and relegate the current one to intermittent vaporous speeches on diverse topics from a safe MInisterial portfolio like sports or culture;
    a new Minister of Finance and deep changes in the advisors in that Ministry;
    a new Minister of Tourism;
and last, but definitely not least, a new Central Bank Governor.

I don’t know how this can be arrived at (But I can provide several airy fairy scenarios that presumes that the parliamentarians on both sides recognize the parlous state we are in and a few have enough integrity to put the Country’s survival first) but it is absolutely necessary at this time for us to get out of the failed state condition that we are now surely in but that the international agencies are too diplomatic to say so in so many words.

Barbados has never passed this way before. It will take the unthinkable to get us through.

  37. Who go be de new PM? Who go be de new MOF? Man I can’t see any change in course coming from any of dem in govment. Who in de govment hint to any of wunnah that them would do things differently? If de change is to put in a PM that would talk more, how that go bring a change in de course we pon? If it is talk wunnah want, we does do enuff talking right hay pon BU. LOL.

  38. The IMF forecast is a bitter pill, but I think it accurately reflects the impact of the austerity program over the next 19 months, and some unique competitiveness issues for Barbados ( strong currency and high wages). However, I support the austerity program because I believe the priority should be to protect the exchange rate peg and by extension the quality of life. Many of the countries growing faster than us or projected to grow faster have a much lower quality of life, and they are growing from a much lower base.

The policymakers needs to push through the growth oriented projects while implementing the austerity package. This will not be easy but we have to try.

  39. Oilman; I can see where you are coming from and I totally emphathise with your sentiments but We are now practically dead.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

Only a new path under new leadership in the important economic sectors can partially save us now.

We have to let those Parliamentarians know that we are onto them and know that their actions are totally self serving and that they will never survive if they do nothing as the people of Barbados will ENSURE that they will not get their pensions if they contrive to go on for another two years doing nothing and avoiding the hard decisions that might give the country a slim chance of bouncing at the bottom of the cliff. The pensions will be taken away retroactively if they are found to have acted against the best interests of Barbados.

Don’t just let them throw up their hands in the air and expect the populace to agree with them. They were put there to govern. Let them govern in the interests of the Country at large, not special interests only. Whatever is the position of those special interests.

  45. I was listening to the PM with all his lotta long speech about free movement. All his speech is based on reactive behaviour, what we want immediately is pro-active behaviour dealing with financial projections to uplift this gem of ours. I would like to hear his sentiments regarding Barbados being at the bottom of the chart.

  46. I heard bits and pieces of the PM’s oratory to his flock. My reaction; pure poppycock.

Getting back to the topic under discussion. I used to think that it would be in Barbados’ best interests if the present Government served out its 5 year term. I don’t think so again. I think Barbados would be unrecognizable if we continued under the present leadership until 2018 or thereabouts.

A simple vote of confidence could trigger an election that should remove Freundel if the Barbados electorate is a thinking one. It doesn’t really matter too much which party wins if the current leadership is removed. That leadership is toxic.

Wunnah don’ understand. Barbados definitely gone through the eddoes.

  47. Check it out…Do you believe right thinking bajans are in the present government? They have a bunch of miscreants who are just looking out for themselves and not for Barbados.

  48. “A simple vote of confidence could trigger an election that should remove Freundel if the Barbados electorate is a thinking one. It doesn’t really matter too much which party wins if the current leadership is removed. That leadership is toxic.”

NO ONE GOT DE BALLS TO DO THIS! They rather drown with the sinking ship. That is the stupidity that is rampant with party loyalty. They are doing more damage to the credibility of their party when they keep supporting lying incompetent leadership.

  49. Oilman ask a question. What is the simpleton Stuart going to do about the Myrie ruling. The PRIZED GOAT Carson responds in typical DLP act-first-think-afterwards fashion”Get out of Caricom”Only a PRIZED GOAT can think like that.
As for the fool that is leading Barbados at the moment I repeat GOD HELP BARBADOS AND DELIVER US FROM THIS EVIL THAT IS UPON US.So mote it be!

  50. @Gabriel
To be honest wid you I believe strongly in integration but if these other caricom countries only in this thing to tek advantage of we I have no problems entertaining debate about leffin caricom. I want to know what was de reason that Trinidad kick out them Jamaicans.

  51. You are so right, Gabriel.

What a load of political hogwash spewed from the mouth of Fruendel Stuart yesterday. I have concluded that it is better for him to keep his mouth shut.

He carried on that OSA signed Barbados into this revised Treaty without the knowledge of Barbadians. This is how the Dems play politics. They were never interested in what was going in government while they were in opposition, they were only interested in getting power…..winning an election at all costs. It is very clear that the DLP has always been anti Caricom judging from the way they treated the Guyanese as soon as they got power…ever so welcome, wait for a call. If I was one of these Guyanese, I would sue like Myrie!

If he is so anti Caricom, why the hell is he going to the annual heads of government meetings for…….just to show off that he is a PM? But what the idiot we have for a PM does not realise is that the same thing he accuses OSA of, he and the dead king did. He admitted that he told the dead king to go to the heads of government meeting and let them know that Barbados would give three months up front and then if the person wants a further three, the would have to apply for it. Wait, why none of us realise that this is what is the new policy.

What goats we have leading us!!!!

    What the hell, Freundel, what

  52. And by the way, Freundel………………….you really think that people are chomping at the bit to come and live in Barbados? Do you realise that you and your inept, incompetent, obnoxious, arrogant Minister of finance have this country on a path to hell going down into a black hole? You really think that Barbados at this point is a catch? You are delusional, PM!

  53. “Things fall apart the center cannot hold” Yeats

We are circling the drain folks….. My poor Barbados………………..

  54. Interestingly PM Stuart choose himself not to reveal to the electorate the same Caricom information until AFTER the Myrie verdict, that is what happens when you do not confide in the taxpayers….

  55. David

You are trying to set-up the down fall of the DLP by encouraging all those who would listen, most importantly, DLP member, that a removal of Stuart as PM is a viable solution. Juvenile but crafty, so A for effort.

  56. David,
    Are these not your words?

“Some of course will not believe it but BU has no patience with this BLP or DLP BS many like to play. We read what the tea leaves tell us. We have become firmly of the view that it is time for Operation E11 to be mobilized AND with haste!”

  57. Rather than notify us about the future why not tell us about the past. Precisely what your meant by calling for the E11 to be mobilized AND with haste?

    • @C4

It was a subtle recall to the point which many have made on BU over time. Stuart reacts with energy when he is under pressure. The E11 and the general election performances come to mind. If only he would sustain it more people would feel confident in his leadership a al The King Speech.

  58. Fumble Stuart, follow the path of Antigua and Barbuda: Antigua and Barbuda selling citizenship
Published: Monday October 14, 2013 Baldwin Spencer – AP

Antigua and Barbuda is now selling citizenship to wealthy international investors to drum up revenue, officials said today. Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer said the revenue will help put the country “on the road to sustainable growth and development.”

The twin-island nation of some 90,000 inhabitants started accepting applications last week for its citizenship-by-investment program. The programme is closely modeled on the one offered by nearby St Kitts and Nevis.

The government hopes to generate roughly $550 million over the next three years by attracting some 1,800 new citizens, who have to spend at least 35 days on the islands during the five-year span an initial passport is valid for.

  59. Did not know about that bond, however, I think the Jamaicans in the diaspora are that patriotic that they will subscribe to such. Not so sure about the Barbadians.

  60. OSA a political Scamp. Have subjected Barbados to a life of Hell and DOOm. after 14years of failing to restructure the economy.while forfeting barbados national security to scalliwags ! crooks and drug mules. THIS man should be broiught before the INternational courts for high crimes and malfeasance what an injustice to his country and country men.. .

  61. does Barbados have a Constitution any more . today PM STUART outlined the many rules and guidlines . terms and conditions signed by the visionless OSA to international Courts and other international treaties that in no way benefits Barbados rights to its own security…. God help us all,

  62. Well, well, well. Look at this doah!!!!!. Where the DLP yardfowls and potstarvers now. I want them defend these figures because they’re are a SERIOUS indictment on the DLP and their CLEAR lack of control of this economy. WHAT ELSE DLP!!!!, WHAT ELSE !!!!! WHAT MORE IGNORANCE DO YOU HAVE IN STORE FOR US!!!!. Why is Bdos the only economy projected in this ENTIRE hemisphere projected to CONTRACT!!!.
The argument the DLP uses that the world recession is affecting our economy is officially GARBAGE!!!!!! It can now be said that Barbados is the laughing stock of an entire hemisphere!!!!
If anything. it is a call for Chris STINKLIAR to do the honourable thing and RESIGN and by extension for FUMBLE to resign!!!! and you could believe that they have the gaul to attack the BLP!!! when they (the DLP) are on shaky ground. The stupidity that comes from the DLP and its supporters is now is at the comical level . On Brass Tacks today one wanted to forward the argument that Bdos’ economy should not be compared to others!!!
Another thing, i want to remind those DLP supporters that want to talk a whole roll of shite about the Myrie case ruling, CCJ, CSME and CARICOM in general, need i remind you which Barbados PM signed the original Treaty of Chaguramas that established CARICOM in 1973??!!!

  63. listen up DLP CBC>> >> THE DLP was handed a rock leaning on a cliff,, the DLP govt .. took measures to keep that rock from hitting roc bottom. THe BLP were the ones in charge of the rock for 14years,, the DLP is now in charge for six years … A mountain of debt was accumulated under the BLP govt. The hard part was handed to a DLP govt . now having to pay off the debts with no money left in the coffers, The DLP was handed a loaded gun and is being asked by the BLP to pull the trigger, THE BLP Govt should be put behind bars ,,,, what a wasted 14years of self interest and nothingness,,

  64. I commend CBC once again for the fairness which they are bringing in their coverage of political matters. I see Mia Mottley and Clyde Mascoll given extensive coverage at a recent political event held over the weekend.
I also see that CBC carried the report about the IMF growth projections for Barbados.
While on the other hand , the Nation BLP newspaper chooses to use BLP operatives like Ezra Alleyne, Clyde Mascoll, Harry Russell, Pat Hoyos and Albert Brandford to play the role of spin doctors. There is clearly a political agenda being played out at the Nation newspaper. It is laughable that one publication can stack every editorial position directly supporting an opposition party for 6 years.
Even CBC is now more balanced than the Nation BLP newspaper.

  65. As expected shite upon shite from DLP lackies. It is one thing for the DLP to create lies and illusions to try to fool people but when you start to believe in your own lies while people starting to see that it was all just an illusion then it becomes a question of whether this DLP gov’t and its supporters have lost their sanity. The jackass that calls himself ac on this forum ( has to stand for Ass Clown) comes with this ridiculous argument of “mountain of debt” after 14 yrs. This is the same 14 yrs that people left the DLP in droves, that a populace voted against an opposition (1999 election), that the phrase Owen Dems was formed?!! Prove this mountain of debt. You are going to use this insane ” mountain of debt” argument when we have had 5 consecutive yrs of the DLP having expenditure greater than revenue, a MOF that don’t know where $300m in foreign exchange went in 3 mnths, that same MOF saying the Medium Term Failed Strategy was on track but the Central Bank Governor saying it was $400m off track?!!! Wunna Dems are the same ones that gine say the economy performing but wunna raise almost every single tax and fees and reduce peoples ‘allowances!!!
Another roll( well mountain) of shite i hear from DLP supporters and that i hear Donville Inniss repeat is that Sandi prepare the wicket for Owen. REALLY NOW!!!!!REALLY NOW!!!!!! Sandi cudda prepare a wicket fuh Owen but couldn’t prepare it fuh heself??!! This is the same Sandi tell this country a bunch of lies about how the economy firiing but later on people find out it was firing BLANKS???
All i gine tell people is that the DLP has now developed a notoriety for not telling people the truth.

  66. Hi you DLP CBC proverbial yardfowls Look behind nad tell ac what u see that THe BLP has made sure that Brabadios has a secure and systainable and well grounded economy. if u call putting all the eggs in one basket is sustainabiity then ac pleads guilty…….when are you and the other BLP yard fowls gonna realise that a house without a solid foundation would eventually fall taking all that dwells there in..ac submit to You that the hardened evidence now reveals a country without solid foundation

  67. Politics is so funny, I remember as recent as the last BLP administration, the DLP then led by the late David Thompson, was using the utterance of the same IMF to whip the BLP then led by Oweb Arthur. Now thw tables are turned and the DLP is now say not to pay much attention to the IMF. PLEASE come clean and tell us the truth and also stop living so largweand expect the citizens to bear the problems alone. After all we are the EMPLOYERS of the M.P’s and we all should bear equal weight or let’s find another party .

  68. june boy,

Just keep quiet, dont bother with trying to put logic to the Dems. The Dems will implode on their own steam. The truth is that the DLP has borrow more money in five years than the BLP borrowed in 14 years and has NOTHING to show for it. They have piled on FOUR BILLION DOLLARS to the national debt. At least there are assets left by BLP to show for the money borrowed.

But tell me something…………. if the DLP claims that the BLP left a mountain of debt according to ac, why did they borrow so much…..FOUR BILLION DOLLARS in five years……………putting more debt on top of the mountain of debt? Does this make sense? Now we know that the DLP of made up of a bunch of idiots!

  69. I need someone to tell me exactly what Barbados has to secure from other Caribbean nationals…………the island is dictated to by the British, Americans and whomever else feels the need or has paper in volumes (money), i don’t see where there is any security of the borders example, the white american male who was given 3 months stay on the island back in June (wait, he is a caricom national) and is still in Barbados illegally. LOL!! The Bulgarian tourists who stole hundreds of thousands from the ATMs in Bim….exactly who is the most threat??

  70. UM prodigal if u ain.t got money to pay off the debt there are 5 other alternative …….1 ask thev household to chip in a litlle bit more .2 borrow to pay the mountain of debt that is collecting lates fees and more interest…3 Sell the frigging house and live on the Street…4 filed bankruptcy and endure the consequence. 5 let the house fall to the ground. Those are your picks Prodigal . Choose any or all of them.

Maybe there is a silver lining in these numbers, the governments have botched the economy so bad that a lot of economic immigrants will want to go back home

Sorry I missed this the first time looking at this blog.

    Economic immigrants?

Are you referring to the work-seeking Guyanese or the Income Tax Avoiding Canadians

  72. Let’s look at what is happening today. Figures are not available yet but suddenly there seems to be a plethora of tourists wandering around. I’m guessing these may be from the UK where there has been a little bubble of economic resurgence and more lending has become available. Unlike this time last year when you could get a package from the UK for a mere £600 odd for a week at a hotel plus flight from Virgin, this year not so, no cheap deals.
This flurry at a time of year when tourism is traditionally low. This time last year the cost of a week’s holiday was only slightly above that of a return flight via special offers splashed over the newspapers for bookings for November.
In my view, the flurry of visitors we are seeing does not equate to an overall turn-up as I feel this spending spree on the part of visitors who used to come to Barbados regularly before the financial crisis is just a tiny blip. They are thinking “phew! a bank loan! let’s go back to Barbados for a holiday like we used to and pretend all is well!”. It’s an affordable holiday mind-set but in the meantime the financial crisis is still full-on, though its roar may be temporarily muted.
The US economy is verging on free-fall and if debt recall happens, all of the first world will be sucked into that vortex.
So… IF I WAS a Bajan, I’d be battening down the hatches, makin hay and stashing it.

  73. @
“…They were put there to govern. Let them govern in the interests of the Country at large,…” The government inherited a rusty, old car with a shaky transmission, almost bald tyres and needing an overhaul. In addition the timing chain was bad and the debtors were at the door. Can it be expected to enter the Sol June rally and compete successfully with “the big guns?” With the passage of time the funds needed to obtain a WRC Suburu will be obtained and then it will be able to go flat out and compete. And in case you want examples you need look no further than the debt to Al Barrack, the debt for the prison (built cheeeply for a lot of money (all like not the paint is peeling the toilets are not working air condidioners not working etc, etc, ) and more. One wirks with the tools one has.

  74. I need someone to tell me exactly what Barbados has to secure from other Caribbean nationals…………exactly who is the most threat??
    …………………………………………………………………………………
During a patrol along the old East/West German border, I noticed that on the Communist side ,they patrolled in 3-man teams….. Two looking towards the West and one looking back towards the East, indicating that there is also a threat from within.
The placement of the cannons on the Garrison Savannah , clearly demonstrates where we believe that our threat is most likely to come from.

  75. PLANTATION DEEDS FROM 1926 TO 2013 , MASSIVE FRAUD ,LAND TAX BILLS AND NO DEEDS OF BARBADOS, BLPand DLP=Massive Fruad on said:

    ac | October 15, 2013 at 12:45 PM I gave you 3 stars,
1 , many people living in houses are not paying rent nor nothing to the Bank, The lawyers are getting most of the rents and they are not recorded at inland , The people love the idea of i dont know who telling the truth so we not pay no one,, 3, the house fall apart and they put no money in the house for its not there house, 4, They go to the UDC and wants the houses fixed and say they dont know who the owner is when the UDC and the tenant know the owner, 5 The UDC was set to launder the land and houses of Violet Beckles and put more money in the lawyers pockets, no taxes paid, All members of both parties are living free and taxing the people more and more money,
THIS AS KEEP SAYING A PONZI , PONZI ,PONZI, LOOKING FOR MONEY TO FEED THE FRAUD SYSTEM OF BARBADOS.
The PONZI got going well under the BLP and the DLP did not or may not see the truth until they got in office,The PONZI got out of hand under the DLP and PM David saw that, Now fumble PM and PIG face Mof, could not handle it for they may had nothing to do with it,But they have they were given the Truth at the UDC with Marget Thelma and all they were tell her was to shut up , YOU ARE NOT A LAWYER, That was good for her for it show to us , that when she say the truth she said it,
Now look for the budget for the UDC only at 1.5 Million , If i am wrong correct me for i think that was the last number i heard.
The fix for Barbados is in the Land , Land deeds,
Until DLP/blp are remove the fix will never happen no time soon , So no laws may e,nforced, The police were told to stay away from land issues , The Police also was told not to charge the lawyers, Dlp nor the BLP with land fraud, The police were told to say now by some ACT passed all things dealing with land is Civil issue and not criminal , see people they set this up so they cant go to jail when caught and they are caught and not in jail.
