Chris Sinckler, Minister of Finance has unveiled a $600 million stimulus

….what you waiting for? – Rouser

It is now almost two months and counting since the results of the 2013 Elections. By now, one would believe, that the euphoria of the occasion would have ceased and an awakening to reality ensued. Instead we were occasioned with the now accustomed, rather nonchalant and evergreen eulogy emanating from Church Village echelons that has obviously signalled the honeymoon is not yet over.

As one punter puts it, how much longer can Barbados remain out of gear? Could we then interpret the blank complaisant as a not knowing of what to do next or the calm before the inevitable storm?

Could the patient further afford the diapason. So far we have heard news of a $600 million instead of a once suggested $90 million stimulus package to help jump start the economy, but  nothing further as to the devil’s details. Could the privatization card be once more in the mix then? Could there be that yet another request for intermediated ‘silence in deals’ as with the recent $120 Million bond repayment?

Surely the populace needs to know more before imaginations again run wild. Are we rocking or rolling, galloping or strolling and to where?  As before, please do not leave us guessing again. Last time the bull was taken by the horns, popularity ratings soared. Less we fall back on old ways.

” it was the so called rejects of society who feel that the country owes them a living, who go to school, have no interest in learning, only to give teachers headaches everyday. They leave school with nothing to show for all the taxpayers spent on them.

These were the people, you CCC and your DLP thugs targeted to vote DLP and to defy the wishes of people who contribute to society, people whogo to work and pay taxes, do service to their community by joining service clubs”

The thinking of the corrupt Barbados Labour Party has not changed. Look at the example above which was written only yesterday!!!!!

As far the the Barbados Labour Party is concerned many Bajans are the SCUM OF THE EARTH and should be disregared. This is a statement of CLASS by a BLACK MAN against other BLACK BAJANS.

Instead of reaching out and helping the less fortunate Bajans to rise to the next level the Barbados Labour Party would rather reject them and consign them to the rubbish heap.

But guess what, they have sent SEETHRU to the rubbish heap. A hat trick of defeats they gave him.

Long live the wise voting public of Barbados.

  3. When people are inherently corrupt, even the party supporters who are considered low class nobodies but are still willing to enable and encourage crimes against the tax paying public, due to their fore parents being party supporters and allowed a tin of corned beef here, a pack of eclipse there and a bottle of rum, these days it is now money for votes, ipad, phones, the guys on the block getting their stash supply. there is no way things will ever get better in Barbados

    ALBERT THE POLITICAL JACKASS
Would anyone in the Nation newspaper’s management who still has any integrity about them ,please change the title of what Albert Brandford writes on Sundays from “Purely Political” to “Purely Partisan”.

It is an absolute sham to have a man who is supposed to be an independent political voice but week after week for the last umpteen years can only bring himself to criticise one party. I wonder how much money is passed under the table to him by the BLP leadership. Imagine the late British Prime Minister is dead and Brandford instead of writing an honest or analytical critique on her politics takes the opportunity to try to do another political hit and run on the current Prime Minister.
As if that was not bad enough, he lied all throughout his article. He suggested that a meeting was sought “he too made reference to treachery…,noting that treachery was not taught at Foundation school” -LIE
The PM made the remarks about treachery not being taught at Foundation school at an appreciation service held in his honour when he was answering those who suggested that he should have made more moves to solidify and establish himself publicly while he was acting PM during David Thompson’s illness.
But then again, it seems that as far as the Nation newspaper is concerned, the only qualifying factor to get a consistent column is to be critical of the DLP and its leadership.
Look at the trend of writers used by the Nation newspaper and you will clearly see the politics at work.
The BLP has 14 voices in Parliament and seven in the Nation newspaper writing columns.

Is it a coincidence that PM Stuart signs the condolence book for late British PM Margaret Thatcher and the Nation newspaper carries a small black and white photo hidden away deep in the newpaper.
Mia Mottley does the same thing and The NationBLPNewspaper carries a large COLOUR photograph on page 4.
    It is a continuing trend.

  6. Carson………..the taxpayers made the modern day Barbados, I really am beginning to realize that things are a bit cloudy for you…………..the ministers in the DLP and the BLP have always been paid a salary to work for the people………………if there were no tax dollars in the treasury, there would be no modern day Barbados, in saying that Errol Walton was a man with vision, he was not perfect…………..but do you believe he would be happy with the state of affairs in Bim today and the beating the country is taking along with all the negative exposures.??

The word from the BLP leadership to its journalistic prostitute The NationBLP Newspaper is to try and boost the profile of its weakest electoral candidate Santia Bradshaw.
Since her narrow victory, Bradshaw has had a two page interview on Sunday with Gercine Carter and now Mottley has asked that her photograph be inserted in the NationBLP Newspaper as often as possible.
The Fly on the wall continues to be amazed at the cosy relationship between Roebuck Street and the journalistic bedroom at Fontabelle where the “connections” are renewed daily.

My parents were highly moral citizens of Barbados everything they did was done on good principles, they were god faring people with the utmost respect for the law of the land.

Yet you are denigrating them because they failed to embrace the Barbados Labour Party, a party that did not have their interest at heart.

You continue to enjoy your day.

THE VOTERS OF BARBADOS HAVE SPOKEN, deal with it!!!!!!

  9. David,

Can you check to verify if there is any truth to the allegations making the rounds in Bridgetown that, local police authorities visited the homes of Caswell Franklyn and Owen Arthur last night, to establish whether there were connected in any way with the tragic events in Boston yesterday.

It has long been established that those two miscreants are known terrorists to the sanctity of humanity.

  10. Due to all the corruption between the two parties, the lines have now become blurred and it is affecting their judgment to the detriment of the taxpayers……………..it is now my belief that these two parties would prefer to see the island sink so they can boast and brag about who failed and passed and who won and lost, rather than work together for the common good. In today’s express Kamla-Persaud is practically begging the IMF to help small states who she is well aware can end up with disorder if the economies are left to slide any further, yet these two parties who share one little island cannot look beyond their nasty pettiness and come together for the common good, they are friends under cover at night but are happy to see their supporters remain enemies keeping the country divided although it is sinking. Dirtbags all.

  11. It seems to me that there are two things that could “kill 2 birds with one stone”, by providing stimulus and solving a couple of other problems.
    1. Deal with the Barbados policy holders from CLICO by selling CLICO assets in Barbados and paying them out in full. I suspect that most of them won’t be stupid enough to trust a local financial institution again, and will spend the money. The Barbados government does not owe anything to policy holders in other countries. Let those governments sell CLICO’s local assets and do the same. $70 million right there and nothing from the NIS!
    2. Instead of sitting on our hands, allow the re-development of Almond Beach Village to be done by a foreign buyer, and done properly. Stimulus would then have the additional bonus of being by foreign direct investment. We obviously don’t have the funds to do it properly ourselves, and it’s a total cock-a-mamie idea that it can be run by former employees. The kind of marketing of the property and Barbados that Butch or Doyle could provide could never be matched locally. $200 million plus right there and nothing from the NIS, severance fund, nor the IDB.

  12. Carson…….you are the one who will have to deal with any decisions made by the IMF………………..if the BLP manage to wrestle the government from you because of that one seat difference……….i will be telling them the same thing. IMF…………here they come. Carson my boy, just remember it all comes with a price.

  13. @ NationBLPnewspaper

My friend, Do you watch DLP TV 8 or read the DLP Advocate? the DLP TV evening news, GIS, The People’s Business; Talk ya Talk on DLP 100.7 fm.

DLP TV 8 and GIS presents the propaganda as expoused by the DLP. Night after night we were fed a diet of DLP Friday lunch-time lectures; speeches made at constituency branch meeting, speeches made at DLP annual conferences. Half of the tv news is taken up showing ministers parading at all types of trivial events.

At DLP_CBC Station you have John Lovell, Maureen Holder, Reudon Eversley, Rosemary Alleyne et al.

Surely, if you cannot see a clear bias existing at CBC and the Advocate, then you are indeed a political yard fowl.

You run out of Barbados because you don’t have the brains to be a success here.

  19. Carson………..I was always outside of Barbados, going back to my teenage years……………like all sane business people, i realize the whole in which businesses would eventually find themselves (weekly business closures) It does not take a lot of brains to realize that the economy was shrinking therefore there would be less money to go around, some business have stopped making any money at all, some are due to government’s inability to pay vat refunds, etc, etc,……..so tell me Carson…..what is wrong with government’s brains that they are not making any money, but raiding NIS and Severance Funds???

  20. Carson…………..far be it for me to relish or delight in an IMF takeover, but even you have to admit, that at least for the last four (4) years this administration has been warned and pleaded to by the same IMF and rating agencies that unless they start some kinda measures back then to curb spending and negative shocks resulting from world economic stresses, this present situation is where they would find themselves………..who do you want to blame if they did not listen, cause they are a bunch of know-it-alls, who cannot understand basic English………..your governor of the central bank refused to listen and instead mouthed off to someone to whom he knew he would have to eventually face if the government could not get it’s act together………who would you blame for that………….the administration can bypass IMF and World Bank and bring on austerity measures, too little, too late, but in your infinite wisdom of all things DLP Carson, can you tell me the risk of that little trick???

  25. Carson Cadogan my brother why are you taking on the nonsense emanating from the naysayers, dooms day predictors and losers who frequent this blog.
Elections over and we the people of Barbados re-elected the great Democratic Labour Party as the government of Barbados.
The Barbados economy was predicted to collapse after the Democratic Labour Party election victory on the 15th of January 2008.Six years later the same stupid talk of the imminent collapse of the economy is still making the rounds.
The naysayers, doomsday predictors and the critics of this government will have to continue making these statements because we the sensible people of Barbados have decided to keep faith with the great Democratic Labour Party and our beloved Prime Minister Freundel Jerome Stuart.
Hard decisions will be made but those decisions will will be made in the best interest of Barbados especially Black Barbdians.
This Democratic Labour Party government will not be dictated to by the elite reactionary forces of Barbados who have little or no regard for ordinary Black Barbadians.
Black ordinary Barbadians went out in their masses and supported the Democratic Labour Party and the Party in return will pursue policies to not only enhance their living standards but also protect them from the hardship and deprivation that they may encounter.
Long live the great Democratic Labour Party and I am looking forward to another tremendous general election victory in five (5) years time.

  27. Well said Negroman. ………………Applause! Applause!

  28. @ Negroman

“Hard decisions will be made but those decisions will be made in the best interest of Barbados especially Black Barbadians.”

People like you read a few Marcus Garvey books or listen to Bob Marley and come to spew your contradictory black contiousness nonsense. You talk about the poor black man versus the elitist in the confines of your living rooms and among your friends, and I bet you have never made any significant contribution to any initative to help the same black brothers and sisters you hypocritically purport to support. Have you ever made any contribution towards the needy, disabled, abused women, parent-less children, homeless, vagrants, the Salvation Army, or any organisation that assists the marginalised in this society. Have you ever done volunteer work to assist the elderly, read or talk to them, help pay a bill?

People like you identify the DLP as helping the masses, yet it is the elitest who are responsible for the general maintenace of these political parties through their generous contributions. What irkes me about people like you who criticise the elite, is that they are the ones who pay to put their elderly in homes, while persons like you abandon them at the QEH.

As for decisions made in the best interest of Barbados, especially black Barbadians, Sandiford reduced the civil service by sending home thousands of BLACK civil servants. His decisions adversely affected poor black Barbadians, but this was in the interest of Barbados, so you would say. However, the BLP’s talk about privitisation was criticised by the great DLP as a means of putting poor black Barbadians on the breadline. Tell me what is the fundamental difference?

Both parties under the same circumstances, DLP send home civil servants – it is in the interest of the country; the BLP follow a similar path – it is against the poor black people.
    Utter rubbish.

  29. The yardfowls continue to act like they got 2018 stashed somewhere………….hope you are not surprised and neutralized……….why in this day and age we still find people who cannot or will not or are intellectually unable to face reality?

Why is it that when the obvious bias of the Nation BLP Newspaper is exposed, that the only defence is “CBC does do it too”.
The fact is that the Nation is now such a BLP lap dog that it has perverted all standards of journalism in this country.
Indeed, that is the untold story – how the Nation newspaper has downgraded the journalistic ratings:
Imagine the largest newspaper in the country with a policy that only people critical of the DLP could write in the Sunday Sun.
Imagine an editor getting curse balck and blue because a story which castigated the BLP 15 point plan was published.
No one can defend this unless they are putting party first and country second.

  42. NationBLPnewspaper Avatar
    NationBLPnewspaper

If the Nation newspaper wants to have a columnist to write on finance and the economy why not get Profesor Michael Howard or a leading accountant or someone who can call a spade a spade.
Instead we have two former political candidates in Mascoll and Harry Russell and then Pat Hoyos who is not even trying to hide his BLP bias in print or on radio.
That is what journalism has become at the Nation newspaper: BLP supporters writing political columns masquerading as journalists.

Does anyone at The Nation newspaper care about Barbados ?

  43. the spirit of patriotism is missing from these BLP yardflows comments, it is nonfactual ridiculous self serving comments about the IMF knocking of barbados doors which permeates the worldwide web via BU.
These and other such comments coming from the mouths of the BLP yardflows does not do the image of Barbados any good and far from helping can only dim the chances and help to further push away any chances for further investment by overseas investor willing to take a chance and also overseas Bajan looking to retire in their homeland . Those two examples alone should be enough to give pause and think about the long term and overall effects to the country when such dire messages are sent most of which are untrue
I can understand want to winning but to set out intentionally or otherwise use clandestine tactics which as a result would help to suppress and destroy the economy is beyond the bounds of ‘poor taste! poor judgement! and irrationality

  44. AC…………trying to scam international investors out of their money, knowing full well that business is now nearly completely nonexistent in Barbados will not work………………it would be better if you told the truth and be honest, it may impress an investor or two…………….the way returning bajans are treated when they bring back their social security and savings to Barbados……….I doubt very much if you will get many takers……..stop trying to sell your deceit and lies, no one is buying.

  45. Who would believe that at a time when this political economic depression is further deepening in Barbados, with so many Barbadians living in very hellish circumstances, such rank idiotic puerilitic partisanship would be the order of the
day on this otherwise essentially progressive blogsite, instead of serious solutions to deal with the fundamental problems that the country faces at this critical juncture in its history??

  46. Investors prefer to see a fresh start and a clean slate rather than a country mired in corruption………..the island needs a fresh start, it cannot be business as usual with both political parties and their sheeple continuing to mindlessly take everything for a joke…………..too many people’s lives have already been ruined while both parties and supporters think it’s a fight to the finish and refuse to cooperate with each other because of party colors. How many investors do you know want to be stuck in the middle of such blatant stupidity. Business people have been complaining in North America about what they have experienced in Barbados……..tell me that is not true if you dare.

Excellent post, Artaxerxes . It is the low information voters like “obzocky” who has us in this mess today, saddled with an incompetent government.

To think that in 2013, we still have people who think like “obzocky” that only the DLP has done any thing good for Barbados. The BLP took Barbados from out of the ditch in 1994 when people were hopeless, civil servants were demoralised, they had suffered salary cuts, a lot of them were sent home, people lost their homes and had to move back in with their parents, people had to cash in their insurances policies leaving them without security, nobody had any confidence in the government to invest in Barbados………….sounds familiar again in 2013? The BLP rescued this country and brought it back to where we prospered for 14 years only to return now to the same position we were in in 1994.

People like “obzocky” are low information voters who do not know that the same “elite class” funds the parties and that the leaders suck up to them to get campaign contributions. Where “obzocky” think the container containing all of the Iphones, Ipads, flat screen TV’s, the Chris polo shirts, the bags and all the other paraphernalia come from?
