Not in Barbados!

First congratulations to the newly appointed Governor General and Madame Loretta: another tribute to location.

Yes there is and will always be racism even among Whites. For some Whites it is a reaction to their lower class status especially after being given a title by a Black government. Blacks too are in practical terms most guilty of racism. For us it is a convenient excuse that enables us to blame others for our shortcomings. Some Whites who did not marry Blacks passed on financial and other inheritance to their black mistresses and their offspring. It led to the Black Class System (Re Comments To Rescue and Rebuild) within which those with brown-skin were considered not to be “One uh We”, treated like Whites and discriminated against. But no one talks about black racism which in many ways was more vicious than white racism.

Some left high school with a birth certificate, worked for a mixed-race owned company and never reached management level. Now one low class White soul pontificates about white racism. Does marriage to a high-brown render one anti racist? His observations suggest he knows nothing about our history, less about socio-political and economic dynamics and is very untruthful.

In Barbados Sold we are told that Blacks tolerated a relationship with the dominant white minority group who enjoy a disproportionate economic influence “which extends to the political sphere,” that Whites decided not to “fully integrate their businesses” and the unwillingness of governments to “react to the aggressive acquisition of Barbados assets.” Exactly what does he mean?

The Whites, some of whom were slaves built, developed, governed the country (Little England 12) and provided the social services we today enjoy until we voted them out of politics. Their businesses, some owned by the racially mixed, were by far the largest employer of blacks. Their offspring developed and expanded the businesses they inherited. Black businesses on the other hand died with their founders. Most of their offspring opted for education and or the white-collar job. In the last 100 or so years the indigenous Whites, including those of mixed origin, were not more than 25% of the total population. Less than 5% have a university degree. They not Blacks or government are the economy.

The suggestion/implication that local firms rejected financial bids from Blacks is an insult to Niggers. Among other things it implies that it would reduce inequality and poverty. Are there 30 Blacks who together could afford to purchase any of the firms sold to Trinidad? The businesses were sold because they were not doing well and there wasn’t much by way offspring to carry on the business. Given the absence of skills and expertise needed to maintain and develop business integration by elevating Blacks to management level remains questionable.

Successive governments and others are blamed for failing to “react to the aggressive acquisition of Barbados Assets,” and for permitting such transactions. The assets are owned by people not the Government. Government cannot dictate to people how to dispose of their businesses or how to distribute their wealth. It cannot create or multiply wealth by dividing or redistributing it. Nor can it legislate the poor out of poverty by legislating wealth away from prosperity. To give it has to take from others. The White-man has no responsibility for the woes of Blacks who have done little to help themselves or the country.

And governments are accused of ‘collaborating’ with whites. This from one who I believe worked for a firm bought by Trinidad, who never reached management level, contributed nothing to society (no community involvement) but was awarded a title. Perhaps he has a point. Being so openly critical of a government that blessed him a title and the Whites says a lot about his socio-phycological dynamics. A major business was sold to the French who offered less than a locally owned company because the mixed-race owners of the local company were deemed to be racist. So could it be that he opposed Trinidadians buying our assets because they fired the Knight? Some of the ‘Trinidadians’ are related not foreigners.

Blogger asked how many whites “integrate blacks in their class by marriage.” A few married blacks. The Knighted soul married a light-brown. Some of those considered pure whites are racially mixed and owned the largest businesses on the Rock. I believe you worked for them. How did you know whites castigated Bizzy and boycotted the wedding? Were you there?

Yes they were white public school teachers at Combermere, Lodge School, Harrison College and policemen. The principal of Harrison College, Fred Haskell, took a black boy short of clothing to Broad Street, bought him some clothing and gave free him private lessons. The boy won a Barbados scholarship. This was at a time of the GCE, when Barbados was said to have one of the best education systems in the world. Today the evaluation of our education by 2 leading universities (UK and Canada) is to put it mildly embarrassing. Others wonder based on the written and spoken word if some of you got past 3rd standard.

Captain Farmer of the police force discovered Sir Gary at a time when he couldn’t get past Spartan club door. The all-white selection committee of Barbados Cricket and the captain John Goddard selected the three Ws, Griffith and Hall (who later represented the West Indies) to play for Barbados. As a schoolboy my team and I had the privilege of being coached on the field and in the pavilion by Norman Marshall and Dennis Atkinson during a first division match against Wanderers and also at Pickwick.

You assume Whites want to “block black middle class from success.” My great-grand parents and some of the clan all had their own businesses which they started from scratch. Many of their offspring opted for education rather than business and attended university. Six of them are “Icons” in the political arena there and in the USA. Did the Whites block them from success?

I grew up in an area surrounded by real poverty at a time when ham was a luxury, when families helped each other and the high school was expensive and costly in more ways than one. Today some of the kids from the area hold the biggest positions on the island and in government. Others are professionals there, Cave Hill,North America and the UK. An exception is Onion Bags, a disaster who I believe did not make it past standard seven. Did Whitee tried but failed to block their success?

You claim governments have “roles to ensure that businesses do not have significant leverage in economies by forcing companies to break up if they become dominant.” If that were the case there would be no monopolies in the world. Do yourself a big favour. Take not what you believe or were told for granted. Do some research or investigation before commenting.

I just remembered to thank you for your kind wishes for my enjoyment of BBQ in celebrating Canada Day. I trust you too will enjoy your barbie, imbibe the amber spirits or pop a few cold ones on the 4th.

Your points above are perfectly correct IMO. David is more concrned about Bim, which is sensible, but we have to also appreciate broader context.

Bajan political leadership, especially in terms of focusing the populace on the road to success, is apparently wanting. Pols, the world over, are only interested in feathering their own nest and creating dependence among the populace to buy votes. PITIFUL!

  2. @ROSS actually i am reading your last dribble and to be quite frank i have no sympathy for those who were alllowed to drive the bus for lo many years and now they are being told legally to move over and let others take some of the control all one hear is belly aching.Where were you when m.any blacks were being denied or pased over in favour of whites in the millions world wide now you expect one to shed tears for one lowly priest.give me af…..ing break. You realise you are talking about dead people!!!

“Those who were alllowed to drive the bus” are long since dead so you must be having a conversation with duppies!!

They really don’t care whether you have sympathy or not!!

    What a waste of time!!

  4. It is true that some whites left England as indentured servants, criminals and others who found themselves on the wrong side in the English civil War. There were a few from the lower social order who often had a little too much to drink in the pubs and awoke in the morning on the high seas bound for “The Barbadoes” or the Colonies.

However, to COMPARE them with between the FIFTEEN and TWENTY MILLION West Africans who left their native shores MANACLED from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century is playing with words.

If the White English wanted to send other White English from England to a far away country that is a problem.. But when the Whites traveled from England to Africa and enslaved millions of Blacks and then transported them almost halfway around the world. . . . . even to a simpleton like me there is no comparison between the two situations.

I know that a kind of slavery existed in Africa for centuries. I am also aware that an Egyptian relief from the tomb of Horemheb ( 1350 BC) shows African slaves. However, the type of slavery introduced by Europeans firstly by the Portuguese then the English, French, Dutch French and others was of a different order. They turned what in some instances was personal to families and akin to a cottage industry, into something of a large scale manufacturing process and in so doing changed the perception of how a race of people were perceived.

When the Benin king and other West Africans along the Niger river first saw Europeans – Portuguese – in 1486 little did they know what would ensue from such a meeting.

I was wrong. It is not the finer points which elude you. It is pretty well everything. So I guess you are mad, or totally stupid, or in denial, or – and this is the most likely – simply vexatious. Now buzz off.

  6. @ Yardbroom

Yes. The Obas of Benin and Olus of Warri have much to answer for. OR as one charming young Warri ‘princess’ once said to me: “The British got rid of their riff-raff. We got rid of ours”. Back to Africa – yes?

  7. @ Yardbroom

Vagrants – not just drunks – were routinely shipped to the colonies. Our vagrancy laws – now repealed in name not substance – were, of course, based on the British models.

  9. @Ross

I will buzz off and give your racist behind a little time to think and come to a sense of reality! better late than never!

Obviously we cant show an equivalency between those sentenced, press ganged etc and slavery. My emphasis is developing the right attitude to attain success regardless of how terrible slavery was. The Jews have provided the basic formula….EDUCATION, knowledge is power, especially the right most timely knowledge.

The Japs were NOT exactly kind to those interred in POW camps, they were treated as SLAVES. I had uncles that fought there BUT I have 2 good friends here in TO who are Japs, I certainly did not pre-judge them.

There are black people still practicing slavery in Mali et al parts of Africa today. There are black guys known as PIMPS who have white slave girls today and who have been known to beat them and murder them. The World is an evil place.

The real question is what do black people think is the solution?

I have always just viewed black people as people, my equal unless they prove as many other whites et al that they are unworthy because they have very bad attitudes and other bad traits.

I just don’t know how to get you satisfaction from those who have passed before and while I know of people who claim to have seen ghosts I have never …. atleast as far as I know.

You could enlist the help of a medium but I would not recommend you dabbling in that, in fact I would encourage you to stay far from it.

BTW, out of curiosity, how do you define Black …. and White?

I figure from the years of discussion on the blogs that these two “races” are actually states of mind and do not depend on skin colour … atleast not always.

The link below is a pretty long documentary on race, ethnicity and class I came across. It addresses the historical events of the 20th century and is called the “War of the World”. I am not saying the interpretations are correct, but they sure made me think.

  12. @ John

    Races are states of mind

I’m sure I said above but if not then now: until we stop thinking ‘I’m black and so I think black’ or ‘I am white and so I think white’ there is little hope of change.
Crusoe says tomorrow belongs to the young. David says, yes but the young must be directed – but what he means is directed by those of us who ‘know’. And those of us who know ‘think black’….which is why they are happy to talk of racist ‘whites’ but cannot contemplate, still less address meaningfully, the idea of racist ‘blacks’ – save possibly in the self-satisfaction, the corroboration, validation and sense of pay-back, which it gives them. The jump is just too much and is the reason, I suspect, why David won’t make the statement that he should about BU and racism.
The wonderful thing about the young is that most of them couldn’t give a toss about it all – like the young everywhere so many of whom challenge the Church, political structures, and what we call ‘standards’ by their indifference. They would rather dance and make music and create life in kaleidoscope as fun. How old are those of us who write on here? And yet how puny and blinkered in so many way busily building our little corners in such stark and seemingly so simple colours. .

  13. Hi Moneybrain July 2, 2012 @ 9:04 PM
I try to keep personal achievements or the lack of separate from my blogging, I have reasoned that it is not for me to tell “individuals” you could or can achieve if you did this or that, particularly when I do not “really” know them. . . . I assume little.

The greatest handicap to the advancement of the majority Blacks in Barbados is that they do not see themselves as one people. Little distinctions in complexion, a difference in hair texture etc can separate them, much to their advantage. . . . because it prevents the “collective” action and effort that can change a society.

A few rich Blacks will never change Barbados, we need a mind set that will seek to address the problems of the poor majority Black Barbadians, not because of a vote but because it is the right and proper thing to do . . . it would allow us as a nation to think of what we can become in say fifty years.

As for the Whites in Barbados they have nothing to fear from an equal and fair society, people do not destroy what they have a stake in.

In times of turmoil guns, position etc never protects a minority as experience has taught us throughout the world.

I once had a conversation in England with an old White farmer from Zimbabwe he said: “We had almost an armoury in the house every kind of gun imaginable plus very big dogs we felt impregnable. They – the Africans – came in the middle of the night and torched the house we were defenceless. Only a lowly Black servant girl had warned us at the last moment what was about to happen – at great risk to her personal safety – so we hid by the river until daylight. Why she did it? because we had always treated our workers fairly. So although we lost everything, she spared us.”

Perhaps I would never have entered this Blog but the statement ”
. . . . “Blacks who have done little to help themselves or the country”. .
was so asinine, I could not let it pass.

I have many white friends, so many that I cannot recall all their names now, friends in the sense in that we go to their homes and they come to ours. One of my best friends ever was a German boy when I lived in Germany. But those positive interactions never cloud my judgement, the world will always be a better place with accord rather than discord.

The past with all its horrors is what it is, it should never be forgotten but used as a spur for the forward advancement of Black people.

  14. “payback” when blacks speak about their past it is interrupted as seeking payback lets consider the jews they mantra is “Never forget” yet everybody listens to their story and their story have been written and constantly repeated and no one dares to see their cause as “payback” but for blacks they must remain silent !is that RACISM OR WHAT!

  15. @David et al,

Yes the young need guidance. The guidance i will ‘try’ to give mine is along the lines of:

    – keep an open mind and ‘judge’ (not for the point of ‘judging’ poer se, but whom to associate with) individuals as just that, individual, regardless of ethnicity, religion or wealth (or lack thereof).
    – work hard
    – enjoy life
    – stay away from those who stab you in the back once, …they will do it again
    – a friend would not disparage nor belittle you, stay away from such a person
    – love life, love whom you see as ‘good’ poeple
    – love nature
    – love YOURSELF
    – study hard
    – take time for yourself to think and relax
    – be kind, truthful but gentle
    – mistrust promises of politicians and other ‘leaders’ most have a motive, look behind the facade for the motive, that goes for people generally too
-everywhere, work, school, country, has a level of politrix, stay away from those who push agendas
    – enjoy literature and reading widely
    – take care of your health, cant buy health. Health before money.
    – respect those who earn it, but treat people generally with respect and respect yourself.
    – The Almighty is the only God, no man on earth, NONE represents God to you. It is between the Almighty and you, trust your instinct and conscience.

    Thats some of it.

  16. Oh, last one for now.

    – Stay away from drugs and spirits, they will damage you physically, mentally and emotionally.

  17. @AC
The critical difference between the Jews and far too many black people is that the Jews understand that EDUCATION is paramount, Knowledge is POWER.( not just degrees, but researching how to make money/ run a business etc) Successful black peeps appreciate this point, very well. Don’t forget the Jews were slaves in Egypt ( ironic that they were slaves in Africa). BTW I know several Jews that are not at all successful, why? EDUCATION! Or lack of brain power.

No doubt it is much easier to discriminate against a visible minority.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The complete statement with which you take umbrage is “The White-man has no responsibility for the woes of Blacks who have done little to help themselves or the country”

The statement can be interpreted in various ways and obviously your interpretation makes it offensive.

You have assumed that “Blacks” and former slaves and plantation labourers are one in the same.

I would suggest that “Blacks” is a term that is of more recent vintage and relates to a state of mind.

… and “the White-man” … well, not sure exactly what, or who you see “the White-man” as.

I have heard Bajans refer to people as “thinking White” which can make a “black man” into a “White-man”.

The terms are used by Looking Glass without definition which does not help much.

Barbados will come of age when we all realise we are in the same row boat together and pull the oars as one.

I think we were actually once at that stage, long ago, but listened to talk intended to divide us, and it did.

Right now we are pulling haphazard and can’t get to go straight.

There is no vision and everyone wants to do his/her own thing, regardless of his/her neighbour.

Not sure how or if we can get back on track.

Maybe Senator Chandler is right and we need to face starvation …. and hope it forces us to wake up.

  19. @ Yardbroom

My personal experiences of people, in their way, all over the place are just as yours. The Black estate workers wept at the funeral of Richard Rawle and indeed carried him from Codrington up the hill to Society Chapel “with Africa set fair”.

    @ John

There’s nothing essentially wrong in expressing individuality by ‘doing your own thing’. Jesus did it. Love your neighbour becomes ‘don’t injure him’ – and with that I agree – provided it is understood as NOT meaning (as with the dress code debate) ‘don’t injure his sense of respectability’.

    @ Crusoe

It would be nice to have you as an uncle. One thing though: it all works provided you don’t hector and talk down to the young as many Bajan elders do. They stop listening. BUT – don’t forget St Paul…”take a little wine for your stomach’s sake”.

  26. @moneybrain the critical difference is that the jews had the support of powerful and influential governments like the USA who saw the benefits from embracing them because of their knoweldge and education meanwhile blacks remained uneducated and discriminated from the very system who embraced the jews .is that RACISM or WHAT?

  27. @AC
    Your point is very valid.
Remember my focus is how can a black person succeed regardless of the history. If/ when white peeps are racial IMO black people should use that as jet fuel to to achieve higher heights. The mindset should be, “nobody can keep me down, BUT ME”! I know plenty darker folks that think that way and they are successful.

I even know a dark guy here in TO that has made good money working with South Africans because he has that philosophy, that level of confidence, his mind says I am better than anybody.

  28. @ money brain

but one can’t form a conclusion without fully taking into consideration the facts. and the historial facts speak clear and loudly for every race the reality is that blacks have not used their history to stop them from getting ahead on the contra blacks have used their history to tell their story and to awake the eyes of the world about their plight and its continuance because of such awareness many doors which were closed was opened giving blacks a way forward and it was because of that very mindset “Nobody can keep me down” blacks were able to prevail however individualistically speaking many blacks have a morbid distrust of each other and its one of those learned behaviour associated with their past. the questions is how do blacks rid themselves of such a mindset of distrust of each other one that will continue to divide the race setting them on a collision course with self destruction for out of this breeds self hate and surrendering to those who first chartred their way.

  29. @Robert Ross, thanks for the compliment, albeit there may be those who would disagree 😉 .

“Don’t forget the Jews were slaves in Egypt ( ironic that they were slaves in Africa). ”

There is no objective evidence to support this statement. There is something called migrant labour; and great cities, nation states and even empires have always been a magnet for cheap labour as a result of which the migrants have always been exploited and conveniently blamed for the socio-economic ills of the day.

In any event being Jewish is a religious and cultural designation. Being Black is a racial or physiological determinant.

It’s easy for a Jew to become a non-Jew as many did in Europe during the centuries of Zionist persecution and even more recently during the reign of the Nazi regime. Once you are black or of sub-Sahara African descent you are deemed “Black” with no turning back.

It is therefore disingenuous to compare what people of Jewish faith went through with what Blacks had to endure in West and still have to confront on a daily basis.
If Jewish man with the name David Solomon and a black man with the David Saul apply for a very senior job in the area of finance and banking with the same qualifications and experience, it is more likely that the Jewish guy would get preference since he would be deemed to “fit in” with the “colours and behaviour” of that club.

Jews therefore are not faced with the racial prejudices and racial profiling as Blacks.
Look around you and be honest with yourself.

And, BTW, those Jews in the Bible that you said were enslaved in Egypt were not white-skinned as the Jews today who are primarily European in racial makeup. If they were of Caucasian origin you can bet that the sun in Egypt would have decimated them early in their captivity as it did to many Europeans who were brought to the New World to work as temporary slaves or indentured labourers.
Please do not compare the Jewish experience with that of the Middle passage and the plantation nightmare. If you do, then Blacks in the Diaspora have every right to demand reparations valued at thousand of time more than what the Jews demanded from Germany and other European States for their holocaust suffering.

  31. In the international world i.e.US,UK and Canada for example Blacks have been intermarrying and therefore the Black identity and socio-economic dynamic which obtains in Barbados is at odds with what is happening in these countries. Bear in mind the dominant host population in Barbados is Black and even though the youngsters are more liberal in views BU remains concern that the power structures and centres of influence remain delineated by race.

“How do you explain the Passover?”

It’s an astrological event or celebration.
The same way “Christians” celebrate the Annunciation, Xmas and Easter.
In any event, its origins have nothing to do with those Europeans who converted to Judaism. Just as Xmas or Easter has nothing to do with those West Africans who were forcibly brought to Barbados, initially deprived of their heritage and subsequently given the European version of Christianity to ensure continued economic subjugation and mental control; and who now see themselves as the most vocal and ardent pseudo practitioners of the “Christian” falsehood in the World.

  34. @ David

I am delighted to read of your concern that power structures and centres of influence are delineated by race. You will share my concern about racism in the Anglican Church then?

  35. ”even though the youngsters are more liberal in views BU remains concern that the power structures and centres of influence remain delineated by race.”

Only a matter of time. It is the same when you pout a different person in charge of a company, he or she does things idifferently, better or worse….or just differently.

Why waste time worrying about the inevitable, especially when the MOST important aspect i.e. the minds and conscience of the young, is stronger than any ‘legal’ adjustment you might want to put.

if I may, people argue here every day about laws and regulations, Barrow told people to avoid the Courts. What does that say?

Laws and regulations are the LEAST efficient way of change, cultural change and minset are far more powerful!

Its like regulating that (just playing devils advocate) women should cover their legs and faces in public…because you want to cut down on sexual encounters by not making them so attractive. etc., thus cutting down on STD’s.

What you have to do is educate and create a cultrure where people want to test, refrain from sudden wild interaction, at great risk, to a mature approach at such activity.

My point is that mindsets and attitudes are far more important than anything you could come up with, in moving effective change.

Hence, why I say the young are the future.

“…. You will share my concern about racism in the Anglican Church then?”

Anglicanism is a dying institution. In England (where it was first bastardized) it is almost dead just ready for burial after the remaining real estate is sold off for 30 pieces of silver to pay for its coffin. One can expect a similar fate to soon play out in Little England.

But why would we want to hasten its demise? We should stop beating and riding a mortally wounded horse. Let it live a bit longer to confess its sins and remove scales that currently cover the spiritual eyes of black Bajans. By admitting on its deathbed to the myriad falsehoods told to blacks to keep them stupid under the Church’s exploitative union jack it would not only be offloading a lot of spiritual deadweight for its past transgressions but would also be giving Blacks a dose of psychological catharsis much needed for their true mental and the n economic liberation. Rev. Charles Morris must be congratulated for his boldness to open the gates that lead to the truth and hopefully some form of initial reconciliation between that dying PR agency for the slave traders, plantation owners and the mercantile class and the culturally destroyed blacks who have been seen only as collateral damage in the pursuit of wealth and profits for the sugar barons and the Church hierarchy back in the Mother Land.

By spilling its guts before its final breath, the Anglican Church would start a fire with the spark of Truth that would spread among its many offshoots now vying to inherit the title of chief conjurer and exploiter of the black masses and destroy the evil roots and shoots of these modern day peddlers of the ‘Prosperity Gospel’ and the ‘get-rich-through-Jesus’ ideology.

“How do you explain the Passover?”

It’s an astrological event or celebration.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I don’t know how the date for the celebration of the Passover is determined in any given year but I seriously doubt that its existence is determined by any astrological or astonomical event.

Do you know what astrological or astronomical event might determine its existence?!!

The Jewish Pass-Over is equivalent to the Christian ‘Easter’. The celebration of the advent of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere goes way back to Pagan times and long before Judaism.
Like Easter, its timing is dependent on the fall of the first full moon after the vernal equinox.
It marks astrologically the passing of the Sun (Son Jesus) from the winter to the light and warmth of spring for the land to produce sustenance for the people. This celebration is played out in the play of the passion or crucifixion of the Christian Jesus and his resurrection. In other words, his “Passing Over” to another dimension of life.
The same way we refer today to people when they die as “passing” on or away to another dimension.

  39. The Passover occurred long before the Resurrection.

Even Desmond Dekker seems comfortable that the Israelites were slaves and sung a song which seems to indicate this.

Perhaps he is even likening the slaves that were brought out of Africa to the Israelites, slaves who were brought in to Africa.

    I need to correct myself.

Theevents which the Passover celebrates occurred long before the Resurrection.

“The Passover occurred long before the Resurrection.”

What do you mean by that statement? They are both religious festivals celebrated after the Vernal Equinox as recognition of the arrival of Spring.

It is true that Judaism predates Christianity so it follows that the celebration of the Pass Over would predate the recognition or celebration of the Christian version of the “Resurrection” which is less than 2000 years old.

Desmond Dekker was just like most black people in the West Indies who are intellectual slaves to the Bible and interpret it in its literal form. He would have even sung a song saying that we are all descendants of Adam and Eve and really believe that is true; even if Cain kill his brother Abel and impregnated his sister who just came out of nowhere.

  42. Easter exists to celebrate the Resurrection, the Passover to celebrate the Exodus of the Israelites out of captivity in Egypt.

The celebration of the two occurs around the same time because the Crucifixion occurred around the time as the celebration of the Passover.

For various reasons, not all Christians celebrate Easter … or for that matter Christmas!!

Miller ……I really enjoy your responses and endorse them as well.

“The celebration of the two occurs around the same time because the Crucifixion occurred around the time as the celebration of the Passover.”

Sorry to disappoint you John but the Crucifixion just like the Passover is a ‘celebration’ and not an actual event. There is no evidence in Egyptian history about Jews being captured and enslaved in Egypt for centuries or evidence of some “exodus”. Moses is a mythical figure (a leader of any oppressed people and copied from Babylonian legend) not a real person that led the Jews out of Egypt and wrote the Pentateuch or the First Five books of the Old Testament (some writers even refer tosixth and seventh).
If you, John, are so sure that an actual crucifixion took place it must have occurred on a specific date and possibly recorded in Jewish or Roman history. Can you refer to the source of such a record?
Unlike date of Jesus’ birth which is always fixed (25th of December – “the re-birth of the Sun”) the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus is a moving date or festival in the Christian calendar.
The astrological basis of the resurrection is as follows:
Easter must always fall on the First Sunday (the day of the Sun) after the first Full Moon after the Vernal (Spring) Equinox. So Easter (the Christian day of Resurrection) can fall as early as the 22nd March of the Christian calendar solar year or much later in April depending on the phases of the moon.

So please John, don’t take every thing you read at face value and attach a literal interpretation to it. There is more in the biblical mortar than just the simplistic Christian pestle.

You see how hard it is to “de-programme” a simple naive people who have been subjected to almost two centuries of religious indoctrination by their economic masters and even longer enduring cultural emasculation of the worst order? Not even the fictitious Jews in the fables would have been subjected to the total stripping of their heritage, family ties and self-worth.
West Indian blacks, especially, are in a very bad shape psychologically and only a final admission by the Church that the whole Christianity con game is a big lie- the biggest ever told- would bring some opportunity for the blacks to see some light and move in that direction to get on the road of mental recovery.
