The Late Sir Grantley Herbert Adams (l) The Right Excellent Errol Walton Barrow (r)

Do not castigate me.  I have only asked a question for debate, in an effort to tease out what should be well known to political activist and perhaps a  section of the electorate.  I put it to you, if there is ideological difference between the major political parties in Barbados, that difference should be easily identified.  Perhaps  should be added  I do not mean simply a form of words, unless those words have been followed by actions over time.  Neither do I mean that since the DLP or BLP failed to deliver on a manifesto pledge, that simple act sets them apart.  It might give an elector reason to support a particular party, but it is not necessarily ideological difference.

If there is difference how is that difference perceived by the electorate and can it be quantified by electoral support.  The general election is only around the corner, a prudent activist or politician will use – or perhaps – should use any opportunity available to set out their stall and say what lies behind the fine suit and the cohoblopot of jokes that have become a mask for policy.

Is it the case that over the years it can be demonstrated by actions taken, that the respective parties here identified have stuck to their ideology and thus changed the face of Barbadian society for the better.  If they have failed to pursue aspects of any stated ideology when in Government, why not.

“Perhaps” – it is debatable – that in broad terms the majority of “major” changes which have taken place in Barbados over the years have not been in the interest of a major section of the electorate.  Is there something peculiar about Barbadian society, that makes an ideology geared to the major section of society unattainable.

Unless we are able to discuss such issues; there will always be evasion and unwritten codes defined by the expectation that people should keep quiet.

Could it be that we have become so conditioned, that it is mentally challenging to break out from a defined position whatever our educational achievements and that defined  position is not made by us but by a subtle input from some quarters.  Thus we inhabit a social straight-jacket subliminal tightened and maintained by a few.

A problem can only be solved when it has been identified and there is a realization that only action can address it.

Here is an opportunity for those who are active in politics – and there are many who regularly contribute here – to say why they support a particular party and how over the years that party by issues they have tackled; been constant in addressing the “major ” problems in Barbadian society.

  1. The Commissioner of Police, Darwin Dottin, tried to play down the serious murdur trend in Barbados, well as a bajan, I’m worried because only a few minutes ago on the radio, a news flash announced yet another murder. Some years ago, we were also told there was no gangs, just a few disturbed youth, now we know what the situation is. If this situation is allowed to continue, serious crime will escalate out of the control of the Police Force, until we become like T&T.

“No worries BU is not the CBC.”

Hi David, there are times when you display a ckeekiness, but a smartness that I admire.

Is your above comment to BAFBFP regarding censorship at CBC, an indirect confirmation of your belief that CARSON C. CADOGAN is really REUDON EVERSLEY, the man who firmly grips the scissors of censorship up at the pine, and the man at whom BAFBFP’s castigation was directed?

Incidentally, did anyone notice that lengthy brazen piece in the CBC PrimeTime News lastnight with an ashen-faced, angry looking Irene sandi-Garner?

In an effort to counter the BUZZ OF THE BEES in St.Andrew yesterday evening, and obviously with the assistance of CBC’s political pimp, Reudon (alias CCC) THE DEMS came out of left field with a project of refurbishing a building, which they say was neglected a long long time by the last government.

This is the disgraceful use to which the tax-payer funded CBC has been put to these past four years …… blatant political campaigning on behalf of members of the government, and they talk about (C)redible, (B)alanced,
    (C)ommitted! More like (C)olossal (B)ull (C)rap

I totally agree with you Maddocks. CBC is overrun with bare-faced political operatives; Reudon Eversley, Peter Wickam, and loose cannon John Lovell.

Would you believe that CBC continues to promote ONLY democratic labour party candidates? In the CBC news a moment ago, they gave a good long time to their new St Joseph candidate, a Mr. Holder to present his MANIFESTO, however inadequate and poorakey it was.

Would you consider giving the BLP NEW candidates a chance as well CBC? It’s the CREDIBLE, BALANCED AND COMMITTED THING TO DO!

Where is the public outrage over this political abuse of the taxpayers TV station?

For the last two weeks, the CBC evening news was dominated by no less than three DLP condidate per night. It is becoming so blatant that I now refuse to watch the early part of the news and wait for the sports and weather session. I think the party is overplaying their hand and it is going to backfire. Not a word is said about anything the BLP do unless at parliament, and that extract is usually very short.

I don’t know what is you all problem.

CBC is very fair, did it not carry Barbados Labour Party’s
GLINE CLARKE’S RACIST statements made in PARLIAMENT?

  7. CBC, what a Calamitous Bunch of Characters. They do pander to the incumbent, irrespective of who is in power. Which among them have got the wherewithall to leave and find work elsewhere, or even try their hand at self -employment ..? Tax payers prop them up and they by their ongoing presence demonstrate absolutely no signs of guilt. ,, Carefree Boring Cockups

Here we go again Scout! Tonight’s DLP CBC TV Prime Time slot for a DLP Candidate’s General Election campaigning, fell to the Political GrassHopper
    Hamie “Hamie-La” Lashley!

Listen DLP CBC TV, the young and dynamic Senator Santia Bradshaw deserves to share excerpts from her Manifesto for St.Michael South East.
Give her her due, and give meaning and vitality to your currently EMPTY SLOGAN : CREDIBLE, BALANCED, COMMITTED.

  9. The programming or lack of it at the CBC should be embarrassing Ruedon Eversley (CBC News Director) who in the lead up to the last election was interviewed on VoB in his capacity as a leading and professional journalist, said to be trained at one of the top colleges for journalist, Clarendon.

  10. Why was Peter Wickham fired from CBC? Was it because as Barbados Free Press alludes, he was a bit too talkative to the US embassy officers? According to a cable released by Wikileaks, Wickham doesn’t think much of the intellect of the electorate:

““Wickham agreed with the assessment of other observers, who
have noted how campaigns once depended on rousing oratory by
stump speakers but now feature expensive rallies with musical
acts and other entertainment; the political speakers are an
annoyance that the audience must endure.”
