On June 14th, 2001, George W. Bush in what was meant to be a snide remark to Swedish PM Goran Perrson (though unaware of television cameras still rolling) facetiously opined โ€“ โ€œItโ€™s amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity and incumbency.โ€

Since Bushโ€™s disastrous two-term tenure as president – is anyone really laughing? Where are the LOLโ€™s folks? What did George Bush and his Religious Rights friends do to the American moral landscape โ€“ touting the virtues of democracy to the known world while at the same time, living a hypocritical lie immersed in the politics of greed, corruption and destabilization?

As I sat to write this article having imbibed and digested Deepak Chopraโ€™s book โ€“ โ€œThe Third Jesusโ€: The Christ We Cannot Ignore, I became even more conscious of how the religious politics and ruminations in American society at this present moment raise sinister challenges which few are truly aware of. Religious voices are muttering everywhere but none of them seem to be making any real sense โ€“ especially within the establishment of the Religious Right.

Today, the United Sates is called โ€œObamaโ€™s Americaโ€. But what does that mean in essence or in real terms? Is this another snide remark on the part of the Tea-Party Baggers/Religious Right fundamentalist proponents? Or is it another deadly form of sarcasm meant to undermine any realistic political or socioeconomic possibility that Blacks will ever be able to attain real parity or pre-eminence given the foundational underpinnings of slavery and/or the moral justification for the antebellum period?

Many commentators in the media were quick to harp on after Obamaโ€™s victory of a โ€œpost-racialโ€ America. But has this really been the case? What is the current state of affairs in a country that has been fractured through the systematic extermination of its indigenous people, major civil war, and the holocaust and dehumanization of the Black slave – not forgetting its entrenched structural and institutional racist policies and laws based on a class system which is a long echo of medieval Anglo-Saxon tyranny?

Now as America approaches its mid-term elections, Obama has become the target of mud-slinging โ€“ where the evidence is ridiculously shambolic. In his own words recently, he said: โ€œThey talk about me like a dog.โ€ Something Black folks know only too well.

If all the talk was much to do about nothing โ€“ then it bodes well for all concerned. Sadly, the real truth is that all this idle talk has more diabolical connotations.

Let me explain!

OneMillionBlackVoters.com on the eve of midterm elections is suggesting that “With a massive and resistive wave pushing against the Barack Obama Administration from the Republican Right, an old voice from time-past has sprung a new cry among the Republican Party faithful that is aimed at the Black community to repeal the 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”

“The 14th Amendment provided Black America with equal protection of the law, due process of the law, a citizenship clause that overruled the decision in Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857), and held that Blacks were citizens of the United States.”

The Civil Rights Act of 1964, invalidating the Jim Crow laws, barred unequal application of voter registration requirements. Outlawed discrimination in hotels, motels, restaurants, theatres, and all other public accommodations engaged in interstate commerce Title IX, and made it easier to move civil rights cases from state courts with segregationist judges and all-white juries to Federal court. This was of crucial importance to civil rights activists who could not get a fair trial in state courts.”

“All above is the Republican plan to destroy by repealing the cornerstone of protection against outright segregation against the Black community on November 2, 2010.”

Please note โ€“ ANY REPEAL OF THIS LANDMARK STATUTE ENSHRINED IN THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT WILL NOT BE AN ACT OF GOD โ€“ BUT AN ACT OF HISTORICAL TYRANNY!

โ€œNever Againโ€ can Black men or women tolerate any form of racial, social or economic injustice that our progenitors have had to suffer for almost 200 years. The twisted evil of racist slavery โ€“ an economic, capitalist conspiracy hatched in the minds and hearts of so-called Christian men whose sole concern was the propagation of Black human life as chattel property and a means of increasing the wealth of rich, Southern land-owners.

In James Webb (2009) book โ€“ โ€œBorn Fighting: How the Scott-Irish Shaped America shows how the Southern Confederacy fought to maintain the notional system that slavery was acceptable while the Northerners (Yankees) saw slavery as Evil*. For according to Webb โ€“ โ€œSlaveryโ€™s stronghold at its inception has been in the plantations of VIRGINIAโ€™S Tidewater Cavalier aristocracy. This ruling class of well-appointed English immigrants had consciously created the royalist โ€œTHREE-TIERED-SOCIETY that dominated Virginiaโ€™s eastern reaches.โ€

Webb in citing Vernon Louis Parringtonโ€™s book โ€œMain Currents In American Thought (1958)โ€ further argues that โ€œmany respectable New England Church members โ€“ made fortunes as the price of human bondage reached a premium.โ€

What I found fascinating on pages 202 โ€“ 203 is this โ€œthreadโ€ which can be traced right down to the current moves we are seeing from the TeaBaggers and the Republican Religious Right where Webb suggests that โ€œthe practice of religion took on a harder tone as well. The democracy of the Presbyterian Kirk had eliminated both the formal sacraments and the overarching power of a central church authority, but the transformation of this concept into the Baptist and Methodist backcountry often found whole congregations in the hands of half-educated preachers and travelling evangelists who held every word in the Bible to be absolute and claimed that their voices echoed the โ€œlips of Godโ€. This fearsome fundamentalism, which sowed the seeds of todayโ€™s Bible Belt was countered on a daily basis by the heavy drinking that had come, along with the stills, from the glens of Ireland and Scotland, and by an equally long addiction to devilish music, sensual pleasures, constant physical challenge and an inbred defiance of authority.โ€

So from Webbโ€™s argument it is clear to see why so-called post-racial America is in such serious trouble. With an economy on life support; with increasing social angst; media manipulation and the โ€œFEARโ€ of structural and institutional fallout from centuries of oppression of a single race of people โ€“ the writing is prophetically etched on the wall for both the elitists and for the United States as a whole.

Before George Bush left office, in cahoots with the banking cartel headed by Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke and Henry Paulson who had market and financial oversite of the greatest SCAM* and heist in American history – consciously wrecking the American economy knowing that a Black presidentโ€™s time had finally come. The end-result has been major Black social disruption, loss of Black jobs and spiralling economic poverty resulting in disempowerment, social and emotional unrest with Obamaโ€™s policies and a Tea Party movement set on reversing the gains made in the last [47] years of the Civil Rights Movement. Martin must be rolling in his grave!

According to Al Jazeera – “The US economy shed 95,000 jobs in September, based on the latest figures from the US labour department. The fall was almost double the previous month’s losses. While the percentage of unemployed Americans remained unchanged at 9.6%, the jobs crisis has had a devastating impact on minority groups, particularly African Americans.โ€

But is anything really new about this given that “Black unemployment statistics has always been roughly twice that of whites going back as far as the 1950’s?”

The socio-geopolitics of white privilege has had long historical tentacles reaching all the way back into the Norman and Viking conquest of the Eurasian Diaspora โ€“ however, if we have learnt nothing from history, one thing is crystal clear โ€“ civilizations crumble and fall when they have reached the Pegasus of moral and spiritual degeneracy and decay.

Right now the focus must be to quarantine entrenched American racism, white supremacy and privilege โ€“ for this will be critical to the way Blacks around the world are treated and for the life chances of people of color to see greater upward mobility in countries where the white capitalist, exploitative ethos has taken root – scavenging resources through globalization while ravaging environments and livelihoods through predatorial migratory practices.

The challenges ahead for America in the next few years of the Obama Administration (if not dealt with quickly) could very well see the โ€œmythologyโ€ of the โ€˜American Dreamโ€™ morph into the reality of a 21st century โ€œnightmareโ€ with Blacks once again bearing the brunt of any societal fallout.

Our attitude must be โ€“ โ€œNever Againโ€โ€ฆ

  1. What the Obama election has shown is that although he is not Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson Black, he is Black all the same. America has never been so polarized in its history. How is that no Republican can never feel they can support an Obama initiative? Why we even have Democrats on the mid-term campaign trail wanting to distance themselves from the Obama administration. America’s true colours are showing, long live the Teabaggers.

  6. The oil leak in the gulf had its own headline and thread here, but there’s no thread for the Chilean mine rescue that is almost completed. I wish to say that the Chilean rescue team has done a super great job in the planning and execution of this rescue. Very well done.

    Anybody who thought that America was anything else but a white racist nation is only fooling themselves. Nothing much has changed in the mindset of most white Americans.

    For some reason this event reminded us of the Underground Railway and the slaves who escaped via caves, gullies, back roads and the like. The difference is they were not heralded but such is life. A very emotionally story at a time when the world is caught up warring.


  13. I would hope that those miners receive enough money that they don’t have to work another day in their lives. I think that this Chile story was one worth watching and listening to, and one that the world could benefit from.


  14. Agree with Michael More when he said on Larry King Show that if Chile had to manage the Gulf spill recently he doubt it would have taken 3 months. Conjecture yes but it is the confidence which all have come away with after watching this Chile mining rescue.

    For any Black man/woman to wish to become the President of the US at this time in history has got to be a ‘party-member’ a damn clown or simply out of their cotton-picking minds!

    When Obama was selected and then elected did you Terrence speak of the entrenched evils of racism? Wasn’t it the same racist establishment that validated and produced him? Do you think he could have become president solely by the support of Blacks? Wasn’t he also heavily supported by whites and many other non-Blacks? Why was he vetted and not some other Black man/woman with similar ‘qualifications’ if not better? Was it because he is not a descendent of slaves according to his ‘makers?’ They tell us that his mother was white and that his father was a Black Kenyan.

    Look at the state of the US today….isn’t the anger of the people justified like it was when they protested against criminal George dubya’s policies? Today the criminal bankers that Obama generously fed at the public’s trough are illegally evicting homeowners and what is Obama doing about it? These same bankers are still making out like the bandits that they really are. Military men & women who ‘thought they were serving their country’ are homeless and living in their cars and on the streets? Unemployment is still mounting. Pension funds are being raided. War is still being waged in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and elsewhere in the name of Empire……..What is Obama doing about that? Wasn’t he just awarded the Nobel Peace Prize? Where’s the PEACE?

    Fox News, Glen drunking Beck and the Tea-Partiers are nothing more than the SIDESHOW. They are there to keep everyone distracted and fighting. The puppeteer wants our attention to be divided so that we can’t see what’s going on behind the curtain.

    At the end of this charade the joke will be on Black people AGAIN. We are so programmed that we are easily led and manipulated. When they re-write their ‘his’tory it will be recorded that a BLACK man was at the helm when the once Great United States of Amerikkka fell. And what will be their mantra?,,, Black people are INCAPABLE, simply INCOMPETENT. So hurray for NEVER AGAIN!

    But since he’s their ‘Night-In-Shining Armour’ and their tool-du-jour, he MIGHT just deserve a little sympathy. He’s way in over his head.   28. As we approach November 2nd election deadline – you can sense the bewilderment and the disillusionment Black folks are experiencing.

    While OBAMA* gets the blame – most Black folks refuse to the endogeneity of the problem they face.

    It is clearly benign asinine simplistic logic to assume that that Blacks are INCOMPETENT and INCAPABLE when the sociological evidence is so obviously clear…

    The structural and institutional bollards set in place by decades of political, religious and economic bigotry (resulting in apathy) which consequently mean that many of us see no real hope and for the rest of us – there is this almost snide obstreperousness which is reminiscent of a group of “rowdy” school-boys heckling from the sidelines as a gory fight ensues between two enemies.

    Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1963) reminds us that:

    “When the architects of our Republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of
    happiness. It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, which has come back marked โ€˜insufficient funds’.”

To what do we owe this unique attraction that the male descendants of ex-slaves have for women with whom had they been caught 75 years ago would have resulted in instant lynching? Asked another way, why do Black men choose not to marry their own women?”

    “Although we see this unfortunate state of affairs taking place on the celebrity level at an increased rate, the truth of the matter is that even middle-class Black men desire a wife of European stock. The answer to this social predicament is rather obvious, has it roots in historical oppression and is the natural outgrowth of self-hatred. Black men, having suffered emasculation more than any other male population in United States history, is constantly longing for approval from the greater white society, and in particular for a validation of their manhood. For many Black men, the desire for social approval, especially from whites, increases with the degree of their economic, occupational and material success. Thusly, the desire to be “treated” and “perceived” as “equal” tends to intensify as the Black man attempts to validate himself by “copying” the white man in all other spheres of life but yet the stain of inferiority and inequality remains stamped upon his unconscious. Thusly, to cope with this internal and unconscious pain of inferiority the psychologically crippled Black man seeks the white woman’s hand in marriage principally as a means of achieving validation and acceptance into white culture.”

    “Despite the reality that he will never be integrated, accommodated or acculturated into the greater white societal structure, he is now able to cope because he now goes home to a symbolic representation of the white world, the white female. When she tells him that she loves him, when she stares with blue or green eyes into his soul, he has a mental orgasm that implies, although erroneously, that he has finally achieved acceptance into the White world. Obviously, the implications of low self-esteem and racial self-hatred cannot be overstated in this discussion. Having been reviled, mistreated, marginalized and outcast for most of his life; after receiving his education and career placement he now feels that it is possible to rejoin the same society that has rejected him.”

    “Without question, Black men married to white women would argue to the contrary, as no human being will readily admit to hating himself. However, despite the “love” argument, which implies that the accident of nature and spirit brought them together, we find socioeconomic reasons for why White women marry Black men. Simply put, approximately 98% of the White women married to Black men have gained within the arrangement a financial quality of life benefit that these Black men tend to ignore. White women primarily marry Black men from whom they can gain something. Take a quick look at the all-to-prevalent NBA and NFL marriages and you will find dark-skinned, nappy-headed men married to blonde haired Ango-Saxon model-type beauties. Would this have even been possible had he not been a millionaire? How many instances can we point to White women marrying down in socioeconomic status? If love is blind, why is it so difficult to find a rich White woman married to a poor Black man? Interracial relationships between Black men and non-African women is about self-hatred, rejection of Black women and financial exploitation by these non-African women who use the Black man’s lust for white acceptance as a means of getting rich.”

    “If we look at Tiger Woods, we find a Black man who self-identified as a ‘Cablanasian’. Part this and part that, but when he entered court being sued by his estranged European wife all the judge saw was another rich Black man who seemingly forgot that being married to a White women is a privilege which can and will be taken away whenever you attempt to take her for granted, like you do with your own Black women. Only 1:4 Black women will get married their lifetime. Given society’s commitment to the mass incarceration, mis-education, effiminization, homosexualization and extermination of Black men this trend does not appear to be heading for a reverse anytime soon.”

    “With so few available Black men left in our communities, Black women who want to marry, have children and raise families are now finding themselves in illegitimate polygamous arrangements with unintended consequences. Black women have been the foundation of the Black community since our days in the Peculiar Institution. It has been our mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, and Queen Mothers of the community who risked, and lost, their lives to protect Black men; how dare we dishonor them by going outside of our race for marital satisfaction.”

    “Lastly, we must be aware of the desire for the Black man to express his disdain for his racial genotype/phenotype by bringing a bi-racial child into the world who will look more European than himself. Thus, he no longer has to be reminded of his dark-skin, broad lips, and nappy hair when he gazes upon his posterity. Quite the opposite, if he is lucky โ€“ as nature has the final say, he will be pleased to be a White baby with only traces of African stock, and this makes him happy. Love is not blind, and marriage arrangements are financial institutions that have little to do with emotions. However, the Black woman has to be careful in how she raises her son and imparts to him standards of beauty. For all long as the bulk of Black women spend the greater part of their disposable income on Korean-controlled beauty products, trying to look “more white,” they should not be surprised to find that their sons have chosen to trade in the false “want-to-be/trying-to-be” sister for the real thing.     Umar Abdullah-Johnson gave a free community seminar/training on Thursday September 30, 2010 @ 6PM-10PM at the National Black Theatre in Harlem, NYC. Entitled “Post-Traumatic Slavery Disorder, Part #4: The Mis-Education of the 21st Century Negro,” this seminar was FREE and open to the entire Pan-African community. It focused upon [5] key areas of political ignorance in the Black community: a) the Black-Male Female Relationship Crisis, b) Genocide & Social Control in the US & Africa, c) the need for operational and practical Pan-Africanism, d) the Mis-education/Homosexualization of Black School Children and e) the Failures of contemporary Black Leadership.

    Are you seriously defending the CHURCH as not being a beacon of the ESTABLISHMENT simply because of the actions of Martin Luther or because of what your dictionary states. This establishment is NOT an entity unto itself, it does not reside in a vacuum. Its more like an octopus with tentacles and the CHURCH has been one of its more powerful arms. The military arm of the establishment drove fear into our hearts and the CHURCH has kept that fear in place for eons. That’s why we are still in this subservient condition today. Did you check out that piece you just posted by Dr. Johnson? Didn’t he also concur that the Church was/is used as a tool of control against the Black mind? And BTW I do agree with much of what he has stated and yes BLACK BOYS SHOULD BE EDUCATED BY BLACK MEN WITH STRONG SELF-IDENTITY. Not men like Obama, Holder, Jesse, Sharpton none o’ dem.
