Former Chairman of the NAB and BLP Supporter

“Given the Democratic Labour Party’s propensity to self-implode (whether in Government or Opposition) and compounded by the level of indiscipline and mistrust now evident within its ranks – the ruling Party will most certainly have to call general election very soon in order to prevent increased warfare within its ranks.”

Already tensions are high. The Dems have simply lost sight of why they were elected and seem to be putting their personal interest before the interest of Barbados. And so, the bitter struggle for power continues.

But while the Dems battle among themselves to see who gets priority access to the fatted calf and to feed at the trough, the rest of the society are left to wonder – exactly where is the “Pathway to Progress“ the DLP promised. BARP members are also wondering what have they done the DLP, that it has implemented a policy that prevents them from getting back the money they invested in Clico. No one expected that having been asked to pay a 60% increase in water rates, that the taps would be dry or there would be so many water outages! There is also great disappointment that the 2000 houses the DLP promised to build every year for the next five year, are not being built and yet the DLP is claiming success in its so-called housing programme.

How is the DLP transforming this society to meet the needs of Barbadians when so many are losing their jobs daily; businesses are closing and crime is on the increase? What type of society does the DLP purport to be building when it cannot even build the road at Boarded Hall or at Coral Ridge?

Wasn’t the DLP’s priority number one, two and three – to reduce the cost of living? Did they not promise to reduce the VAT on electricity bills? Why can’t Barbadians get their Income Tax refunds for two years now? Weren’t we told that Barbados does not have a cash flow problem? Then why can’t senior citizens get their pension cheques to buy a tin of sardines, since that is all many of them can afford, especially since this cruel DLP has already cut the vote of the Welfare Department by $5 million and the vote of the National Assistance Board by $2 million?

Why is it now flooding in areas that never flooded before? Where is the Financial Service Authority legislation the DLP promised to implement by the first quarter of this year? Where is the Rent Control Act? Where is the much-touted Tourism Master-Plan that is supposed to be the centerpiece of this administration’s tourism development efforts? Where is the small hotels specific incentive package that was to continue the work started by the BLP to shore up this segment of the industry?

What is the status of the overhaul and upgrading of the Tourism Development Act the BLP articulated before it left office? How many rooms have the DLP built since January 15th 2008 and what about the plan to expand the luxury tourism market and to construct and open a major internationally-branded five star hotel every two years?

After nearly three years in office, where is the Cruise Ship Pier and facility that the DLP said it will build in the North? Where are the Marinas, the DLP promised to build, to attract Yachts?

A man in this county who is being paid $155,000 of our tax dollars annually – boasts that he is also (while being paid a full-time salary by the GOB) working for five other regional Governments, yet this same DLP Government, which gave him that sweetheart deal – now bellyaches that it cost $52,000 per year to dialyse one person at the QEH and $100,000 a month for the QEH to outsource the dialysis service.

Imagine! The DLP wrote-off $19 million for the Barbados Turf Club and gave a company that it said was sound, well managed and well regulated, $20 million but is now twisting the arms of poor people who cannot afford to pay the QEH.

When the ruling Party promised “change” no one expected that it had intended to save Barbadians from enjoying a high quality of life and standard of living. But it took the DLP less than two years to create a fiscal disaster and a political nightmare in this country.

More than two years in office and the DLP has not fulfilled its promise of hope and change, neither has it been able to reduce the cost of living or ease grid-lock on our roads. In fact, since it came to office, prices have increased by over 12%. Barbadians are growing impatient! They know that the DLP has lost sight of what is important to them, as well as why it was elected to office. It is time to “change” to something better: competent Government and to what actually works for Barbados. Team BLP therefore Stands Ready to Serve.

  1. The time for the reorganization of the Democratic Labour Party has come in order for it to command majority vote in Barbados. The rumblings will get worse because of the jostling for position.I like the fact that there is an Oposition party and that is exactly where the Dems seem to be heading-in the opposition! Barbadians are a strange lot however since at this point where the P.M is ill, they might very well vote Dems again out of sympathy.Without David Thompson is shall be pure madness!!!! An early election should decide how bad the DLP is for BIM!!!

  5. Well, as I predicted, the Bat Cave of “political stratagists” has opened. All we need is for Mia to say, “And I approve this message.”

  6. I certainly do agree the DLP is bad for us at this time you die hard DEMS so shame you dont want to admit it. In all my 46 years I have seen this country like this. We did have some challenging times before with salary cuts and the likes but never like this. Yes we have a world wide recession but at times like this we need proper leadership not every time sometimes happens you hear of the former administration even after been in office for so long. The DLP made promises they knew could not be fullfiled and then when things cant happen blame a former admin. I am sick and tired them. WE NOW NEED A CHANGE FOR THE BETTER.

I have said it a thousand times on this blog.
Henderson, you seem to be plagiarizing me but you know what? – I AM HAPPY ABOUT THAT.
I have said that the DLP is bad for Barbados but you know what ? They might be bad and good at the same time, BAD FOR BARBADOS; GOOD FOR THE BLP which is actually good for Barbados. The DLP make the the BLP look like geniuses. (please put this statement in BOLD.) repeat this statement: THE DLP MAKES THE BLP LOOK LIKE GENIUSES.
I also predicted that Chris Sinckler would rise because this THOMPSON Administration would not have lasted the five years. That Chris Sinckler would rise has been fulfilled. (the proof is in the archives of this blog–check it)

not blowing my own trumpet but I have also said that

Here is some advice from a BLP supporter called

    J:

“try and get rid of the theives and conmen in the party well before the next election.”

Do you hear that loud and clear from one of your own. THEIVES AND CONMEN.

We all know that your Barbados Labour Party’s grab for power is all about plundering the Barbados treasury once again.

THAT WOULD BE VERY UNFORTUNATE !

BUT I think bajans are not so stupid
    Dont take bajans for granted.
    Bajans will deal with reality
OWEN ARTHUR has been there -done that
If THE PEOPLE ARE to choose in the interest of the country, they would have to go with the BLP, it is simple.

Don’t mind them fundamentalist evangelists who have influenced a lot of youngsters male and female, people of the computer age who come on these blogs and who want everybody to be impossibly squeaky clean and be like Jesus who is GOD not accepting that man is fallible.

These ‘youngsters’ who grew up in the 1990s do not appreciate recent history or any history at all . These same ‘youngsters’ who were influenced through the blogs- because they are computer sensitive more so than the old female huckster or retired voter to vote against the BLP in 2008 did not know what they were doing having been influenced by these ‘fundamentalist evangelists’ who convinced their various congregations that Owen did this and that , he is a pariah > FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE.

They talk crap about Owen did this and Owen did that as if people in the DLP never do anything=BAD=

I heard certain rumours about the present Prime Minster-(PM) before and after he became PM -certain things –but would I repeat them ?—Out of respect -No –out of respect for truth and accuracy -NO—-To take a cheap shot ? —No—I do not know the veracity of the statements so I dismiss them as rumours. The statements might very well be true because I actually would have heard them from sources that can be deemed reliable–but I wasnt there ! –I did not witness–so there !
I MAINTAIN THAT –THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO CHANGE THE GOVERNMENT IN 2008—NONE !

BUT THERE IS DEFINITELY A NEED TO CHANGE THE DLP GOVERNMENT NOW.

In 2008 , one could not point to any real concrete overwhelming evidence or event that necessitated something as drastic as a change in Government. That action was too radical and did not match nor was it commensurate with any perceived failings of the BLP Government. The BLP should have been given back the Government. The DLP said they were ready but I was not convinced that they were ready for anything but to destroy Barbados. But you know what ? the people prayed for and called for change, they wanted change—They got exactly what they asked for.
I never thought that the DLP would get back into power under 30 years after what they did in 1991-1994–That the people returned in 2008 them to continue their destruction is one of the wonders of local politics.
FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE.

“One way corrupt people manage their guilt is to give some of their ill gotten booty to charity. The corrupt delude themselves into thinking that their God would not only forgive them for stealing if they give some to the poor but he might even bless them with even bigger opportunities to illegally pocket state funds once they give something to the lucky poor and chosen political party rather than squander all on high-rises in Florida, European vacations, big cars, Ten Cane Rum, and outside women.”

The Is The Time For Good Men And Women To Defend Barbados

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++

“Our country is under attack and is being held hostage by a Government, which is not working in the national interest.”

Now more than every, our country needs WOMEN and men of great courage to step forward and say: ENOUGH – We Can Do Better.

My fellow Barbadians, we must not become confused about who or what the threat to Barbados’ social and economic stability and wellbeing is.

As Barbadians, neither can we cannot afford to spend the next two years wishing we had done more at this defining moment to rescue our country and put it back on track.

Team Barbados Labour Party take comfort knowing that we can count on you every step of the way. It is said that “change” never comes without a fight, neither will the status quo go quietly, despite the effortless blunders and “political incompetence” of the DLP. In short, change will not come unless each of us does our part.

Each passing day is an opportunity we will never have again to change Barbados and put it back on track. Let us therefore make sure we do not wake up tomorrow wondering if we could have done more today to spread “Team BLP’s message of hope” and to reach out to those in need within our communities.

Please take note that when all of our nominations are over, it will come down to you — the people of Barbados; your lives and your children’s futures.

It is therefore obvious that in so many ways, our families’ futures and our children’s aspirations are on the line. Getting the Barbados Labour Party re-elected will therefore mean the difference between getting relief and new hope to people bearing the brunt of the incompetence of the David Thompson administration.

It will also mean restoring Barbados’s reputation and standing in an anxious CARICOM that is crying out for steady, principled leadership – given our common interests and shared values.

With each nomination, we are getting one step closer to bringing jobs and opportunity to families who have been hit hard by this failing SANDIFORD:Thompson/Stuart/Sinckler/IMF economy.

It is about securing retirement for people who are seeing their savings and investment in Clico disappear. It is about providing people with a health care system they can depend on when they are sick, especially they will not be able to afford what the rich and privilege can.

These are the things we are fighting for. That is why it is so important to do the most we can possibly do to secure victory at the next general election, but more immediate – to reach out; do “good works” and get the message of Team BLP message across. People are counting on YOU.

Let us work together to give people within constituencies across this country the boost to rescue Barbados and put it back on track.

Only you know what is the most you can do. But, all of us know this: Extraordinary commitment is what it is going to take to see our candidates through to victory and to see our country through to better days.

My Fellow Barbadians, whether home or abroad – we only have one opportunity to make history and put this country on a new path. If we relax, the DLP will win by default.

The BLP has been singing the same old song but the problem they have is how they are going with Owing.

HANTS, DO NOT BE AN ETERNAL IMBECILE!!! DO YOU NOT THINK IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR A NEW PRISON TO BE BUILT ASP?

Do you think the security of Barbados would have been assured if we continued to keep convicted criminals, some of them dangerous, in a sheep pen down St.Lucy?

Incidentally HANTS, was not your Minister DARCY BOYCE, the head of the independent committee that favoured VECO, and was not Minister Boyce the most enthusiastic supporter on the committee for VECO to get the contract?

  27. Good one Hants!

All political parties need your blind support but it is the Independent who makes things happen.

Ok. convicted dangerous criminals kept in a sheep pen. What’s wrong with that? New Prison, new contract, nice commissions for the expert contract negotiators and lots of ice and syrup to make slusshies.

and I will be an “BE AN ETERNAL IMBECILE” so that I can rival GP on this blog.

And I will be an eternal DLP supporter.

  29. There is little doubt Barbados had to build a new prison after the old one was razed.

The stability of the country hinges on maintaining law and order and a proper prison is part and parcel of it all.

The dispute is the amount of money spent. Could an adequate prison have been built for 50% of the cost?

Frightening sign of the times from a Power hungry DLP

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There was a time when the Rt. Excellent Errol Barrow was leader of the Democratic Labour Party. In those days that Party took pride in this country being able to pay its way. But a lot has changed since then.

It would seem that this “new incompetent DLP group” prefer to walk the earth with a begging bowl – under the guise of promoting philanthropy and as a substitute to compensate for their incompetence in managing the economy.

Could you image the Rt. Excellent Errol Barrow saying that he is ‘waiting to see’ what President Obama is doing in America or what the British Prime Minister is doing instead of providing the required leadership, locally?

Are we to believe that as Barbadians, we are no longer craftsmen of our fate? Have we now reached an all-time-low under DLP rule when an elected Government of Barbados is willing to surrender our sovereignty as well as this country’s right to self determination, to others?

Will DLP policies again carry a: “Made in Washington Label? Perhaps that explains why the new Minister of Finance has gone to Washington. Did he take the Budget for approval?

In his “Mirror Image” speech, Mr. Barrow said: “The DLP has an image that the people of Barbados would be able to run their own affairs, to pay for the cost of running their own country…”

Consistent with that philosophy, leaders all over the world introduced progressive policies in their respective counties to achieve the above but here in Barbados the Prime Minister prefers to ‘wait and see,’ while Stuart now has a remarkable plan – to wish the Barbados economy out of recession.

The DLP manufactured a serious fiscal crisis on the current account with no stabilization plan or policy in sight. In his recent Report, the Governor of the Central shows that for the first 5 months of this year, the DLP spent $182.3 million more than it earned in revenue.

Why this is disturbing is that it is $62 million more than the deficit for the entire year of 2008 when we were already saying things were bad.

While all of this is happening, faced with the same global conditions the DLP complains about, the Guyana economy continues to grow and never once went into recession, while the US economy came out of recession in August 2009. It is why Barbadians must guard their minds each time the DLP speaks

Having placed a gag order on Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition from even purchasing time on CBC – you know that something is definitely wrong and that Barbadians must therefore be very afraid when the DLP, which promised freedom of information legislation and good governance, would now seek to treat any criticism of its horrible incompetence – as an attempt to destabilise the Government.

Seriously Hants, David and Carson – wuld “anybody” have to destabilise the DLP–only a competent government is capable of being destabilised.

  38. The problem with both parties in Barbados is thst there are a large group of persons who benefits from their party being in power. When their party is in opposition, very few of them can find work, the others hibernate and wait for a change in government. The problem with the DLP is that since they were in opposition for so long, persons were in hibernation for long too, therefore now that they are able to see a better life, they are grabbing it with both hands, some are hungry, some are greedy. it also happened with the BLP when the Barrow led DLP had three terms. The other problem facing the DLP right now is the uncertainty of the P.M, hence the uncertainty of a second term, therefore those who are there now will try and grab as much as they can to serve then during their new hibernation period.

  39. J wrote “Hants I hate to see it but some of the old kolij boys are some of the biggest crooks in Barbados.”

Well J perhaps I had betta stay up hey in Canada cause ef I come back I mite be tempted to join de ling.

@Henderson Bovell who wrote “the Guyana economy continues to grow and never once went into recession,”

Can you explain so we can understand this economic miracle in Guyana while Canada, the USA,the UK and Europe were all in recession and still out yet?

The austerity mindset remains. Despite Canada escaping the deep recession faced by many other countries, consumers have been showing similar budgeting behaviour to that in the UK, according to Datamonitor.

    @ Hants

The disastrous social and economic mismanagement which has been happened for some three years now – has not come with any sense of surprise to many.

Indeed, I have long argued that the tired and incompetent Democratic Labour Party – does not know what to do or what it is doing.

I have already made the point that faced with the same global condition that the DLP has been complaining about – the Guyana economy continue to show strong growth annually.

We are now hearing that 188 out of 213 countries in the world can boast of stronger economic performance for their citizens than Barbados. In fact , under DLP rule, Barbados is at position 189.

Some One hundred and ten countries actually expanded their economies last year, but not Barbados. Under DLP rule, this country has now been in recession for three consecutive years.

Nothing but a change of Government will therefore rescue Barbados.

The DLP has had its chance – it is time to give Barbados a chance.

I really believed these things would have been done yet here I am just looking on with disappointment. We need help. I never wanted to join a political party but I now see myself considering it. if it is that people only get help when they belong to some party then I am force to test it.

“But Carson I am NOT one of the BLP’s own.”

Ok, if you say so then I would have to accept it.

  50. I have come to the realization that all the money spent on education has not benefited this country in any significant way. Where is the honest thorough analysis on how we got to this point? Instead of blaming this government for creating this economic problem, let’s have an honest debate.
Before the elections the persons who were running for the DLP were called wild boys, the BLP supporters jump up and laugh. A comparison was done in an advertisement to show that they were just as qualified to be in government or more than the BLP candidates. The DLP won the government when most sensible persons were saying it was a good election to lose.
This has proven to be true. The DLP came into office during one of the harshest economic periods in the world.
Now the BLP supporters, after living big on borrowed money want the present government to create miracles and keep us living a lie. We have nothing to support this high standard of living.
The economists are saying that some pain must be felt if we are to get out of this mess.
Well the DLP should start the tough measures. If they lose the government the miracle workers Owen Arthur and Mia Mottley can come back in and let Barbadians continue to live the lie. Bring back more Guyanese to revive the economy. That is what they believe cause the problem.
If in time of plenty Owen Arthur had introduced the measures that would have made us a more productive and competitive developing state instead of looking for developed status on borrowed money we would be OK today.
Who will cut the health and education budget? Who will cut the public service wage bill?
These are issues facing the country.
