The video like many is being circulated on Facebook and captures some of our young children dancing to the popular Lil Rick song Guh Down. BU notes that there are adults in the thick of things. In the words given currency by Fred R. Barnard, a picture is worth a thousand words.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things – King James Bible

  1. Playing devil’s advocate here….

Re culture, if barbados is a ‘Christian’ society as is claimed, why do we have so many statues and pictures of mere mortals in Bridgetown?

Is there not some argument in religion against worshipping false gods etc?

Is the mounting of ststues and pictures of dead people not worsjipping false gods?

Such actions, together with ritualistic wedding ceremonies and funerals, are we really pagans at heart?

Do we need statues to signify what we can be or should be?

Is our ‘culture’ so weak that we have no confidence in relying on ourselves to do the right thing, that we must be reminded in photos and statues of the dear departed?

Does our ‘culture’ not give a good and firm grounding in approach to life?

  2. In East male stripping finally made legal, but nobody pay to see Eastern stripper … Intelligent agent convinced that this happen because of shape of male stripper eye … We make program to have East compete in every spherical of activity so we make program to have world class male stripper in ten year … no?

  3. @Crusoe.
Bajans have differing opinion on what our culture is and what is seen today in music or dancing as part of our culture is being frowned upon. The statues and photo that we have of our dearly departed are not at all threatening and only serve in a sense to pacify our hearts that we are doing what is right. However the truth about our past culture is still buried and when those who k now try to exposed it are they are quieted down . Now if a statue of a bare breasted slave woman waserected in tTrafalgar Square which is a true sysmbol of our heritage the painter who did such a “”blasphemous act” would probably be tar and feathered. .So as they say “what yuh don”t know won’t hurt yuh” People would ratherplay make believe than want to believe.

I can’t recall anyone bowing down n worshipping these statues in B/town or elsewhere. They are just symbolic of the person’s contribution to B/dos. I have no problem with that though I must confess that I haven’t seen Mr. Barrow’s statue in Independence Sq. yet. What a shame nah? Not really. Not a ‘town-woman’.

  5. Y’all see Erykah Badu’s ‘short video’ on the human outlook?

Quite ‘interesting’, but she made a point, in an off-the-wall way, cheeky (pun intended) too.

Rather endearing…..I like people who act and think outside the box, not humdrum parrots who add little to thought.

Can imagine some households ‘did ya see what she did? Shocking!’

    Lol

  6. By the way, the headlines noting that her strip video ‘upset Dallas officials’ and her fine, merely proved her point.

She was charged for a harmless video, that was merely artistic expression (which many of you would emdorse, bearing in mind comments above).

But, how many bodies return daily from Afghanistan and Iraq, who is charged for them?

Hypocrisy. Making a mountain our of a molehill, culture shock, yet mass bloodshed is okay?

    She has made her point.

  7. Finally, I wonder what the naysayers who criticise Ambassador Rhi will say now?

    RFLMAO.

What does one have to do with the other?Expound, pleezeeeeeeeeeee.

  9. @Crusoe , the many bodies coming back from Afghanistan can also be considered as Artistic Display.
Each one of those bodies before it met its demise, was formerly represented by a pretty pin on the General’s Tactical Chart ,somewhere in a safe area..

  10. These children need guidance and correction-that’s all. If someone recorded each thing that someone did wrong and/or every mistake that one makes we would all hang our heads in shame. God bless the children and the adults that have to raise them. I think that it is really unfair to post this video and then abuse Barbadians.

Can Crusoe name any culture or people, pre-Christian, Christian, post-Christian, non-Christian that does not mark, marriage and death (and birth too) with a ceremony?
