Barbados Fire Fighters Website

Yesterday a 32 year old manufacturing business Tropical Beverages located at the Grazettes Industrial Park was severely damaged by fire. Reports in the media suggest 16 employees are currently displaced by the tragedy. BU cannot imagine the pain and mental anguish which the owner of Tropical Beverages must be experiencing. Bear in mind this is a company which has defied the odds for longevity in the manufacturing sector. Hopefully time will tell what caused the fire. The Barbados Fire Service and the Royal Barbados Police Force must have taken note of the high number of fires at the Grazettes Industrial Park over the years.

According to statistics floated, Barbados has experienced over 400 fires for the season. Sugar officials have already expressed concern that the high number of fires has reduced the projected yield of 30, 000 tons for the sugar crop 2010. Over 250, 000 acres affected by fire to date. Last week an elderly lady had to be rescued from a burning house. Today a property in Wildey next to the Texaco Gas Station went up in smoke. The underpaid and undermanned Barbados Fire Service Officers have been working around the clock to prevent Barbados from sizzling to ash.

BU followed with interest recently Commissioner of Police patting himself on the back because the crime statistics year over year remained flat. The point is not stressed enough about the statistics reported on by the RBPF; statistics are compiled based on reports received from the public. The reality remains for those with commonsense to discern that there are enough weeds overrunning the lawn to cause worry.

  1. Should Barbadians worry why an intelligent society should experienced 400 fires over a relatively short time?
  2. Should Barbadians worry the cases of HIV and AIDS continue to rise in the 15 to 19 age group?
  3. Should Barbadians continue to worry that for over 25 years successive governments have not been able to adequately regulate the private and public transportation sectors?
  4. Should Barbadians continue to worry about an education system which has become irrelevant to sustaining national development?
  5. Should Barbadians worry…

A society which is responsible for so many fires at a time of drought suggests as a people we should be very worried (Possibly some of the fires have been accidental) The weeds continue to overrun our lawns and we stand meekly by the way. Sorry Commissioner Dottin, your charts provide excellent PR but underground BU know better.

  1. Wait I left Bim in 93′. How many fires this business has been through? Seems like somebody want them out of business.

  2. Like everthing else in the caribbean when it comes to fire safety issues these are only highlighted by crisis management. Our public bulidings, place of businesses and residence are fire hazard waiting to happen. I beleive every public buildings and place of businesses should by law be equipped with fire spkinler and smoke dector. A clear pathway for entrance and exit and a well manned fire house whose job is not just to react to fires but to enforce the fire codes. We donot do enough fire prevention exercise and attached heavy fines to those who violate the code.

Every home shold be equipped with smoke dector or a fire extinguisher and it should be made illegal for people who build homes that are 100% burgler bars. I went to Trinidad a few years ago to visit a friend and to my surprise the man house was literally a prison I tell him the only way I am going to sleep in this fire hazard unless he had fire alarm or I stay in the room with the key that has an exit door . I have a close call with fire some years ago and because of this experience I am very oversensitive when it comes to this issue.

  3. More fires in Barbados today.

WordPress went down this evening and consequently the 9.2 million blogs which use the WordPress platform would not have been accessible.

  4. ” I went to Trinidad a few years ago to visit a friend and to my surprise the man house was literally a prison ”

Your concern is logical, but what you expect in Trinidad, where people are now scared of their own shadow.

Why you think so many Trini wealthy have properties and business outside of Trinidad?

Population of Trinidad, roughly 1.3 million. Population of New York roughly 8.3 million.

Murders in Trinidad in 2009, over 500.

Murders in New York in 2009, roughly 461.

Murder rate in Trinidad now exceeds that of a metropolis like New York, with 7 times the population.

If I was dey, I wud live in a house-prison too. Wid about a hundred rottweilers bout the house.

  5. I agree with the Rottweilers Crusoe.

  6. Could this be someone’s way of easing the recession? To who’s benefit?

Looks like that someone finally got their wish.

I hope you have the money to feed those dogs or they will have to eat you.

  8. Grass fires yesterday damaged pumps to resevoir which services the Lodge Hill and surrounding areas.

  9. @ David, did the grass fire damage the pumps or the electric feed to the reservoir.
If its the electrical supply, isn’t it a shame that the BWA does not have an ample amount of mobile generator plants which they could put in place in cases where the BL&P supply has been interrupted.
