The recent earthquake in Haiti which devastated the capital Port-au-Prince has sent shockwaves across the globe. In an era of instant communication, the horrific pictures of the carnage afflicted on Haiti has been emotional for many who have witnessed it. Some say hundreds of people are dead or injured, others say hundreds of thousands. Only time will tell the extent of the injuries and damage to humans and property. The devastation has been enough to force many to ask, why Haiti. This is a country which has had to endure perennial suffering whether manmade or acts of God.
BU is heartened by the global response to the cry for help by Haiti. In the past similar humanitarian relief efforts have been hampered by corruption in the distribution efforts of aid. We hope that those responsible in administering the relief efforts in Haiti will do what is right.
Now is an opportunity for the Caricom region to respond as a region to what is required to effectively help Haiti. It is good we have a few regional Prime Ministers flying into Haiti to see and hear for themselves what is required to support the humanitarian effort. Is this a PR exercise done to satisfy our obligations to a regional member? Time will tell!
Already the catastrophe in Haiti has revealed how religion can expose the ignorance of some people. It has been reported that Pat Robertson who is an American Christian televangelist has blamed Haiti’s pact with Satan as the cause for its suffering. We are flabbergasted that a man of such influence and suggested intellect would be driven to spout such bovine excrement.
On behalf of the BU household we hope and pray that those behind the relief effort will be able to mobilize quickly and to do what is required to relieve the suffering to those who are alive and to bring dignity to those who have died so tragically.

I am no “big time” Christian but if there is one thing I understand about the Christian theology is that I am worth nothing but God still cared enough to redeem me even though I don’t deserve His love. So if God could do that for me, who am I to refuse to help another particularly when they have not done me any wrong.
I don’t care about what was spent before; anyone with a modicum of decency will seek to help those Haitians in need at this time, not try to piss on them as you and some others are doing.

Well you can remain schoked and surprised! You see I dont really think that what I have to say will change any thing. However, I did relay in this forum important information emailed to me by folk connected to the Secretariat of the Evangelical Churches.
You will notice that even the Evangelical church, irregardless of what they teach about the wrath of God, have acted in love by giving and seeking to mobilize thier membership across the region to function according to tenets of 1 John 2 and 3 especially.

I have only heard one local civil/structural engineer in the past strongly and consistently advocate building with earthquakes in mind in Barbados ….. from as far back as 1987.
Twenty years later we felt that tremor in November 2007!!!

The Jews believed that they should forgive 3 times. When the disciple asked how oft should a man forgive hs brother he thought that he would be smart by doubling it and adding an extra one for extra measure. Certainly 7 times should be OK.
The idiom 70 x 7 means one should continue to forgive one’ s brother indefinitely. BUT IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT GOD FORGIVES SINNERS 700 x 7 as you said!
That conclusion can not be adduced or exegeted from the passage you cited.
1 John 2:2 teaches that Jesus died for ALL the sins of the world. It is on the basis of Christ’s death on the cross, and only on this merit that God can forgive sin. Romans 3:21-24 clearly teaches hoa a JUST GOD could be JUSTIFIED in forgiving a sinner.
You can not make the point you were INITIALLY seeking to make with the Scripture you cited from Matthew, because that passage HAS NOTHING IN THIS WORLD……..OR THE NEXT TO DO WITH GOD FORGIVING SIN.

All true Bible students and believers who understand the significance of the Abrahamic covenant and the dispensatinal section of Romans (i,e chapters 9-11) fully understand what is happening in the Middle East and the UN and in Washington with respect to Israel.

Here is the briefest history of some of the major US efforts to break Haiti.
In 1804, when Haiti achieved its freedom from France in the world’s first successful slave revolution, the United States refused to recognize the country. The US continued to refuse recognition to Haiti for 60 more years. Why? Because the US continued to enslave millions of its own citizens and feared recognizing Haiti would encourage slave revolution in the US.
After the 1804 revolution, Haiti was the subject of a crippling economic embargo by France and the US. US sanctions lasted until 1863. France ultimately used its military power to force Haiti to pay reparations for the slaves who were freed. The reparations were 150 million francs. (France sold the entire Louisiana territory to the US for 80 million francs!)
Haiti was forced to borrow money from banks in France and the US to pay reparations to France. A major loan from the US to pay off the French was finally paid off in 1947. The current value of the money Haiti was forced to pay to French and US banks? Over $20 Billion – with a big B.
The US occupied and ruled Haiti by force from 1915 to 1934. President Woodrow Wilson sent troops to invade in 1915. Revolts by Haitians were put down by US military – killing over 2000 in one skirmish alone. For the next nineteen years, the US controlled customs in Haiti, collected taxes, and ran many governmental institutions. How many billions were siphoned off by the US during these 19 years?
From 1957 to 1986 Haiti was forced to live under US backed dictators “Papa Doc” and “Baby Doc” Duvlaier. The US supported these dictators economically and militarily because they did what the US wanted and were politically “anti-communist” – now translatable as against human rights for their people. Duvalier stole millions from Haiti and ran up hundreds of millions in debt that Haiti still owes. Ten thousand Haitians lost their lives. Estimates say that Haiti owes $1.3 billion in external debt and that 40% of that debt was run up by the US-backed Duvaliers.
Thirty years ago Haiti imported no rice. Today Haiti imports nearly all its rice. Though Haiti was the sugar growing capital of the Caribbean, it now imports sugar as well. Why? The US and the US dominated world financial institutions – the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank – forced Haiti to open its markets to the world. Then the US dumped millions of tons of US subsidized rice and sugar into Haiti – undercutting their farmers and ruining Haitian agriculture. By ruining Haitian agriculture, the US has forced Haiti into becoming the third largest world market for US rice. Good for US farmers, bad for Haiti.

Actually if you check Bible History, the Israel in the Bible and the Israel we know are the same. I was just reading an essay I wrote in 1999 on Bible Geography on Israel and its relationship to the influences that Egypt had on them. It really traces the history of Israel through the OT. And such a trace reveals that Israel never lived up to what God had prescribed for them.
Israel went into captivity and after their return in part to the land of promise, they were again dispersed until 1948 when they became a nation again.
I am glad that their doctors are there to help the Haitian people.
