A BU family member wishes as a matter of urgency to purchase, one 16 port (8 powered, 8 regular) IEEE 802.3af Compliant (Poe) network switch. Anyone who has one for sale can email BU to get contact info. It could be new or used, as long as it works.

  5. @Terence M. Blackett: “Netgear…

I *highly* recommend *against* the use of any NETGEAR (their capitalization) switches.

I have extensive empirical evidence supporting my position on this.

I *do* recommend Dell switches, because the are one of the few vendors with true Next Business Day (NBD) support here in Barbados.

And because their switches tend to work properly, unlike some others…

Otherwise, anyone using any kit in a mission critical situation here in Barbados should stock their own spares….

  6. It is as we posted, a BU family member made a request and we were happy to oblige. BU generates NO revenue, if we decide to do so the BU family will be the first to know, and that is a promise.

  7. Please let us know if you are happy with the offer.

  8. To BU/David,

Thanks for all the input BU family.
Chris, can you elaborate further on the problems encountered with NETGEAR switches?
Right now this seems to be the cheapest and most popular of all.

  9. @Anonymous: “Chris, can you elaborate further on the problems encountered with NETGEAR switches?

I could (and would) to anyone who wasn’t Anonymous…

Otherwise… Let’s just say that amongst other things, I have a picture of a NETGEAR switch with all the patch cords removed, but the switch was still showing lit connection status on its front panel… (This was after it refused to answer HTTP, ICMP or SNMP requests, and was in the process of being removed from the system, headed for e-bay)….

  10. Ok Chris,

Maybe you can email it to David and he in turn, could forward it to me, if that is not asking too much, if it is, still many thanks.
