The Constitution River Redevelopment Project has been going on for a while now. The Boardwalk is slated to be extended as far down as the Globe Cinema, and the river cleaned. So far, work has been pretty much completed as far down as  the original Minibus Rover Terminal.

However, although the Minibus Terminal is clearly usable, as are the passageways  to it, there is still no word on when either will be reopened. The minibus operators have expressed concern over this, as many prospective commuters are deterred by the lengthy walk to the current terminal, as the direct walkway remains closed.

The River Terminal is Clearly Usable

So far, the yet-to-be reopened minibus terminal seems to have up against the heavy rains, but the ZR terminal from which all the PSV’s currently operate is another story. The part of the constitution river which is yet to be redeveloped (from the ZR terminal down to Queen’s Park, then to the Globe) floods when their heavy rain. The ZR terminal floods as well with no drainage system in place for the water to run into the river.

  1. I just you would realise that projects likes this MUST be placed on the backburner until this resession is over. This is not Utopia and everything cannot be perfect, so be contented with your job, do the best you can and be also contented with the conditions we have until better can be do. There are many countries that are much better off than Barbados but there are also many countries, and may I add many “so-called” better off countries that have conditions much worse than ours. Don’t look at the glass half empty, look at it half full

  2. I can appreciate the recession and all, but why spend the money clearing the marshlands ever few months if you’re not going to do something permanent. It grows back in a matter weeks anyway.

  3. The government hopefully would have done a cost benefit i.e the cost of advancing the project versus delay and the remedial cost associated.

  4. David wrote “The minibus operators have expressed concern over this, as many prospective commuters are deterred by the lengthy walk to the current terminal, as the direct walkway remains closed.”

It seems like a small enough thing to open the pedestrian access from the bridge to the bus terminals. But the powers that be who do not walk or take the bus (which is why they all die of cardio vascular disease before the age of 70) seem to believe that those of us who walk are nothing and nobody and can be kept waiting for ever and a day.

Hey!!!! we are tax payers (and voters) too.

    Open the damn walkway do.

  5. most capital projects like this, the funding is identified and sourced before work is started.

If work has been stopped on the project that would be a very worrying sign indeed

  6. Hey “J”, are you writing about those walkers who stop a minibus or ZR every few yards?

  7. No peltdown:

    I am talking about me.

    I ALWAYS use the bus-stops.

  8. @anon

This is phase I of this project and agree commonsense should figure finance should have been procured for this phase. The BTII has been given the authority to raise money to fund several projects of which the urban renewal is one.

Is there a problem? We notice that Charles Holder who has headed the BTII for several years is on leave and will not be coming back according to media reports.

  9. I am not a ‘Bridgetown’ person but this place looks reallly nice man. Impressive.

    J
Am I to follow your argument and believe then that those who WALK, don’t die of cardio vascular?
    Pure hog-wash.

  10. We all die.

But those who don’t walk (or otherwise exercise ) regularly die at younger ages and have more health problems.

Have we ever had a Prime Minister who lived to be 75 years old?

    I didn’t kill them Bonny.

Too much “good” food, and too little exercise killed most of them when they were barely three score and ten.

  11. J,
I’ve known persons who were fitness gurus and blam, just so, heart attack, dead. They were fit as a fiddle. Skinny people have health problems too.
I wasn’t referring to Prime Ministers at all, I am speaking in general.
There are many stressors which can lead to diabetes, hypertension, heart attack etc.
But you know what is real?
“It is appointed unto man once and that is to die”.
    Can’t escape it.

  12. Only in Barbados could a 2by4 make hundreds of people walk twice as necessary every day, somebody should kick that down.

Or put up a video on youtube showing how them is treat poor people in Barbados. The walk way finished from the vanstan to the bridge, (not the swing brige that never swings the other one) and got it block of with a 2by4.

Really nice airport, not so nice bus terminal, bigger heads should be shame. Tourist dont live here!!!!!!!!

You asked why clear the marshlands since it grows back in a short while. the answer; the same reason you cut your lawn every month

  14. Ready Done
You serious? A bare 2×4? No man, lemme an you go an kick um down man.You do de kicking an I gun put on de plaster-paris pun you brek foot.Agree?

We always wonder ‘what were you thinking’ when we see how dese ‘bigger heads’ operate. You call dem ‘bigger-heads’. ‘Na-head’ would be a better one.
Doan leh dem stress you out hear Soul.

  15. @ The Scout

The difference between the marshland and a lawn is that a lawn is the desired product. You have a lawn because you want a lawn. We have a marshland because we haven’t developed it yet. Picture having a lawn, which you intend to pave, but instead of paving it, you pay someone to cut it for years. This would be understandable if you can’t afford to cut it, but the government hasn’t reported that they can’t afford to complete the project so as far as the public is concerned, work should be happening. Actually, the Minister of Tourism said recently that they were going ahead with the river development all along halls road to the Globe roundabout.
