Whose island is it?

Port St.Charles
Port St.Charles

Not content with their rape of Heywood’s beach to prevent local lads playing football there and scaring the living daylights out of a few white investors who fear black people laughing and being rambunctious the Port St. Charles gangsters have resorted to a new tactic. It’s called, “Call the police.”

As part of the Port St. Charles abomination the investors have built a secluded bar and restaurant area for the rich folk to keep very much to themselves. With a jetty ideal for local kids to jump and dive into their own Caribbean Sea. On Sunday they were doing just that and having much fun when the Port St. Charles Homeland Security goons called the police.

Of course when the ashamed policeman arrived the kids had vanished. Hey, whose island is this?

SSA Booth at Kensington Oval

SSA Chairman Don Marshall

SSA Chairman Don Marshall hogged the booth for Cohobblopot – it was allotted by the NCF for Sanitation use, instead Marshall chose to host UWI pals alone, not a member of SSA Management was invited – it was verified when the spouse of an SSA employee passed by to greet Management and was shocked at not recognizing a single person in the booth and left quickly.

Cayman Islands Deputy police commissioner charged with four offenses

A family member emailed us this article which reported the arrest of Deputy Police Commissioner of the Cayman Islands Rudolph Dixon. The independent investigation is being carried out by the Metropolitan Police Service. The importance of this story comes against the background of calls for independent investigations into recent events involving our own police force.

    Redds,

I have no issues with her speaking before , during or after, because as we saw in her attempt to speak after the PRIME MINISTER THE HON MR DAVID THOMPSON on the Budget reply she was an absolute disaster, she is not the smartest one around when it comes to political tact and know how, so I expect nothing from her on Sunday therefore she will not surprise me when she falls flat on her face.

The people voted for change on the 15 th January and the change was to evict the likes of Owing and Mottley out of office for gross corruption, they are not yet welcomed back and based on their internal confusion seem unable to a cohesive unit as was the evidence by Hammy Lashley’s approval of this years budget.

When your own members support the ruling party and you are in Opposition, you have major issues internally address those first before coming to the people with bare faced lies as she attempted to do in its budget reply.

This is one MORALESS BEAST that knows no peace, if Owing did not want her and Hammy does not want her nor do half of the sitting members do not want her why then off load the BEAST on the civil society ? She is a reject simple and plain, a REJECT.

LET HER CHEW ON THIS ONE FOR A WHILE!!!!!

You are simply sick, politically and otherwise. I find difficulty in people who just hate debating, but continue to demoralized with partisan rhetoric and insidious comments that shows the outside world that our behaviour is from the gutter. WIV, our guests will go home feeling that Barbados’ democracy is at a lower scale. You are a disgrace to our people and it will eventually filter to the party which you say you love. Unfortunately, you are doing more damage than uplifting the party. Do sit back and think. Peace be unto you.

One day they will wake up and realise that it is not business as usual and by that time they will be on the outside looking in.

When recently a Minister in a top Ministry, had a file that was sent back to another department of Gov’t and then the Minister in his follow up seeks the whereabouts of the file only to learn that the file has gone missing, reports are that those within the Ministry learning that the Minister was about to approve the matter and in so doing creating major job opportunities for we Barbadians our own beloved people, a wicked, sick minded, disgusting BLP Hack operating on instructions from Mottley Willfully and Maliciously took the file and hid it away in his desk drawer.

As fate would have it he the PS went on leave and the new person taking up the post did some searching and found this elusive file.

Now tell me why should anyone feel upset when some one like this Johnny is sent of leave ??

It is these kind of actions that are stalling the process of good Gov’t and this stalling will stop, as this person action nearly cost you and I our livelihood by making these investors frustrated to the point that they would pull up stumps and move on.

Tell me Why I have no care if you like me or do not like me but I will expose you lot for what you really are a lot of corrupt frauds.

Do not come here telling me nonsense about right and wrong when you were part of the scam to rob us the citizen of this great island.

Please tell the blogs which Government Department I worked or the business I was part and parcel to that undertook any Government project? BU and BFP allow people of your kin to abuse the blogs with your constant lies. When you cannot beat them, you retreat and come up with your constant distasteful innuendos. I am pleased to state that I was never employed by Government, I never dealt with any contract or project on behalf of any company I managed. Maybe, I dealt with you on a Creative project.

  6. WIV. I am giving you up to Wednesday to state the Government department I worked and the alleged fraud as per your above statement. Failing that, we can fairly state that you are simply a political humbug, a tick in a cow’s ear and a sore on a foot that would not heal. You’re simply pathetic.

Certainly not innuendos as you would want other to believe just simple plain facts as detailed below and some day coming soon the culprits name will be made known, no innuendos just the plain facts as you and your party created and left them.

We must seriously consider the impact that this type of political sabotage can have on our Nation when the likes of mottley and company can rant that they will bring business and investment to a halt on this island it begs the question is she real is she a true Barbadian is she a loyal son or daughter ???

When in her own vindictive vile ways can set about giving direction to loyal blp PS ‘s we have a real and serious issue, I have been hearing about many PS that are not functioning but this is the first case of clear cut sabotage and deceit that has manifested itself in a full blown way.
Let me suggest that this Barbados is for all of us to live on and for mottley to display such crass, moraless, wicked manner and method does she nor the BLP any good.

You agenda is to rebuild and to hope to find a leader , mine is to move forward and uplift this great island minus your corruption and free of any corruption.

  9. WIV, I honestly hope that good taxpayers monies are not been spent to employ you to come on here and spew your hate all in the defense of the DLP. You say you are Thompson friend Lord help us all, are you sure you are not him, don’t care how you cut it are these the type of people he associate with and have in his ears. I really think that you should change you name because it begs the question ” what are you waiting in vain for?”

  11. WIV. Are you not someone within this administration? If you think by washing dirty linen in the public arena is going to uplift the party, well come again. If the PM or his Ministers allow someone like you be part of the hierarchy of the party, may the Lord help Barbados. How on earth can someone who states he is not affiliated with the party, he is not a member of the party, can be so privileged with inside information of a ministry? If the leaders of the party are trying to exposed the previous government by feeding this person with inside information, should you be blaming the innocent civil servants that did and is stilling doing Barbados proud?

This is where I separate partisan politics from business ethics. This administration must move away from using such people from representing them and doing untold damages to the party and government in general. WIV. I prefer to ignore you, remember I am a proud Bajan and the outside world don’t have to see my dirty linen, unlike you!!!!.

  12. I am not hearing anything about the price of oil which is at $118.00 per barrel down from a high of $140 per barrel. The Minister of Trade is still hoping to see a $200.00 per barrel since he keeps reminding Barbadians that it is eminent.

  17. Ganong,
I can pontificate all I want. Just like you I am a lay person and I can express my opinion on the delivery of healthcare or anything else. You may not agree with what I say and that is your right

  18. Mix up time again, so WIV who are we to believe regarding the new hosptial issue David “no clue” Thompson or the Minister of Health Estwick, are the flyovers not too far behind, what a bunch of idiots.

  19. @ Tony Hall

Of course you can pontificate all you want because you have a computer and internet access. Certainly you have the right to express your opinion on the delivery of healthcare as a layman for that is your right, but would it not be better to give a more informed opinion as Ganong as obviously done?

Ganong is most likely a doctor from his choice of name. He has certainly asked some pertinent and poignant questions, which I will copy below.
    Questions?

1- Is there a need for a new hospital ?. Ours is only 44 years old. Even in the developing countries hospitals are older than that. You see the Governments in Barbados think they have done something when they have erected a building.
2- On what basis do you think that the best thing is to build a new one since that level of work cannot be done while patients are in the hospital.
What is the work that needs to be done? Are hospitals renovated in other places without affecting the inmates?
3- Do hospitals deliver health care, or the hospital personnel?
4- During the time that this new edifice is erected, what will be done towards improving health care to the periphery of the country? What will be done about improving emergency care at the QEH and elsewhere? What will be done about maintaining or improving the current standard of health care at QEH?
5- During the time that this new edifice is erected, what will be done towards improving training for hospital personnel? Will we train our own nurses? Or will we continue to bring poorly trained nurses from elsewhere?
6- When we are finished erecting the new hospital will be not be delivering the same old standard of care by the same old personnel

I notice that though you think that you can pontificate on anything you like, that you or no one else has sought to attempt to answer or comment on his questions.

I don’t agree with what you said; not only because it is my right but be cause you talking shite. Ah lie?

  20. WIV wrote

“Just before the election, the BLP administration was berated for suggesting that the option of building a new hospital should be considered.

May I enlighten you Scout the reason that they were berated was because we the people who pay the bills did not want the then adminstration spending anoter cent on our behalf as we had all the clear cut evidence of how corrupt the blp were ..”

well it was The Devil he should be responding to not the Scout, but that aside, I now take it that the BLP had good ideas (so good that the DLP will now implement them) but the BLP could not be trusted to implement the same ideas effectively and without corruption.

Didn’t Prof. Howard suggest that the DLP should follow the BLP’s manifesto? Hmmm…

  21. Dr. Boobie,
That’s your opinion and you are free to express it. Once nobody agrees with you they are talking shite. Well I will continue to talk shite. You appear to be the type of person who if you had your way would shut up anybody who didn’t agree with you. Typical BLP behaviour!!!!

  22. Tony Hall

You have ranted and tried to insult me, but you are unable to answer the questions posed by Ganong. You judge me and call me BLP. I’m sorry to tell you that I am neither DLP or BLP. Never voted in general elections yet! Not even once!
And the guys are not spending my tax dollars cause I dont work in Barbados.

You are spouting your venom apparently as a DLP supporter.
But I am a professional, who cares little about either BLP or DLP.

The facts are that Ganong has asked pertinent and poignant questions, which you as a medical illiterate seem too ignorant to even consider.

Your pretty partisan brain disenables you from enjoining in rational or practical debate or discussion.

Lets try to answer Ganong’s questions objectively and scientifically and practically- not DLP yardfowl-ly. OK?

1- Is there a need for a new hospital?. NO
Ours is only 44 years old. Even in the developing countries hospitals are older than that. Recent Governments in Barbados think they have done something when they have erected a building.

THE STATEMENTS ABOVE CAN NOT BE REFUTED

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY WE SHOULD HAVE A NEW HOSPITAL?.

2- On what basis do you think that the best thing is to build a new one since that level of work cannot be done while patients are in the hospital.
What is the work that needs to be done? Are hospitals renovated in other places without affecting the inmates?

DO YOU KNOW WHAT WORK NEEDS TO BE DONE AT THE QEH?

DO YOU KNOW THAT HOSPITALS ARE RENOVATED IN ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD WITH OUT AFFECTING THE INMATES.

DO YOU KNOW THAT MANY RENOVATIONS HAVE BEEN EFFECTED AT QEH IN THE PAST ( even by the dlp in brandford taitts time) WITHOUT AFFECTING THE INMATES

IS THERE NOT TALK ABOUT EXTENDING THE HOSPITAL TO THE NORTH? HOW WILL THIS AFFECT THE INMATES? THINK!

3- Do hospitals deliver health care, or the hospital personnel?

IT MIGHT SURPRISE YOU TO LEARN THAT HOSPITAL PERSONNEL DELIVER HEALTH CARE- NOT HOSPITAL BUILDINGS.

4- During the time that this new edifice is erected, what will be done towards improving health care to the periphery of the country? What will be done about improving emergency care at the QEH and elsewhere? What will be done about maintaining or improving the current standard of health care at QEH?

THE DLP IS DOING NOTHING TO IMPROVE HEALTH CARE IN BARBADOS AND IN PREVENTING FOLK FROM COMIG TO HOSPITAL

THE DLP HAS DONE NOTHING TO IMPROVE EMERGENCY CARE IN BARBADOS SINCE IT HAS COME TO OFFICE.

THE DLP HAS DONE NOTHING TO IMPROVE THE CURRENT STANDARD OF HEALTH CARE DELIVERED AT THE QEH OR ELSEWHERE IN BARBADOS SINCE IT HAS COME TO OFFICE.

CAN YOU REFUTE ANY OF THESE STATEMENTS? I DON’T THINK SO?

5- During the time that this new edifice is erected, what will be done towards improving training for hospital personnel? Will we train our own nurses? Or will we continue to bring poorly trained nurses from elsewhere?

THE DLP HAS NOT ENUNCIATED ANY PLANS TO ADDRESS OR SOLVE THESE ISSUES IN EITHER ITS MANIFESTO, OR SINCE COMING TO OFFICE

6- When we are finished erecting the new hospital will we not be delivering the same old standard of care by the same old personnel.

IF WE DON’T TRAIN NEW PERSONNEL AND INCREASE THE STAFF LEVELS
IF WE DON’T EDUCATE OUR PEOPLE CONCERNING THE MODERN ROLE OF THE HOSPITAL AS A TERTIARY CARE FACILITY INSTEAD OF A PRIMARY CARE FACILITY, WE WILL STILL BE WHERE WE ARE TODAY

Now I have freely expressed my opinion based upon knowledge and experience.

I can discuss or debate with other persons who have knowledge and experience about these things. That’s all I ask. I have not asked any one to agree with me, nor have I said or indicated that if you don’t agree with me that they are talking shite. All I asked is for shite talkers to LIFT themselves up a bit and THINK before they spout shit and venom like political yard fowls.

Now you are free to continue to talk shite because you can not do any better. Ah lie?

Now be a good little boy and read THE CONTENT of the above and see if you can pick any sense out of it. If you cant, ask your momma to help you. Or ask your school teacher, or somebody with a little piece of working brain.

The health care system is being administered to something that was sadly lacking under your adminstration, the ills that you neglected are being see to like the allocation of the $ 26 million that went in the wink of an eye just paying bills that you racked up but refused to pay to the point where suppliers were refusing to supply goods and services to a gov’t run facility.

Take your time my friend, come the middle of this month you will have a clear view of more of the rampant corruption that you fuelled.

  24. http://www.nationnews.com/story/294962725996719.php

With respect to the article above in today’s NATION.

Now it is well known that Bajans evicted the BLP from power over seven months ago.

What seems not to be as well known since then is that, The Minister of Health has demonstrated very little, if any ability in running the Ministry of Health, or in providing viable or valuable health solutions for our people.

Whereas many people in our country believe that because of its recent misdeeds, that the BLP is not qualified to speak on behalf of Bajans, or criticize the GOB, the fact of the matter is that the BLP is the opposition. Consequently when they oppose or object, we ought to at least sift out what they are saying and not just discard their utterances as mere bovine excrement.

For example, in a newspaper article in today’s Nation which reads Mottley: Clear the air on QEH, the opposition leader is questioning whether Government is building a new hospital or refurbishing and expanding the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. And he has every right to do so! Because the GOB is EITHER building a new hospital OR refurbishing and expanding the Queen Elizabeth Hospital according to utterances of two GOB officials who both ought to know what is going on.

Whether you like Mottley or the BLP or not, this is an issue about which the people of Barbados ought, and deserve to have a clear answer!

Mottley has correctly asked, whether you like Mottley or the BLP or not, who in the David Thompson Administration is leading the programme to improve the delivery of health care, because after seven months NO ONE in the GOB has clearly articulated any plan or vision or proposals on this matter.
Mottley has correctly reasoned and pointed out, whether you like Mottley or the BLP or not, that the DLP is either expanding the hospital to the north of the existing plant, or they are looking elsewhere to build a new hospital.”
Whether you like Mottley or the BLP or not, this is an issue about which the people of Barbados ought, and deserve to have a clear answer!

Whether you like Mottley or the BLP or not, Mottley has correctly asked who is in charge of the Cabinet of Barbados, because it is incomprehensible that there should be two “obviously conflicting statements” in the space of just three days from the Democratic Labour Party on how it planned to go about tackling problems at the QEH.
The Nation was informed by Prime Minister Thompson in the 2008 Budget on July 8, that “Cabinet has agreed to the expansion of the QEH on its present site, estimated to cost over $400 million and we have begun to identify funding for this upgrade and expansion.”
On Sunday last Prime Minister Thompson in a radio broadcast asserted that “The Ministry of Health was designing programmes to meet the hospital’s needs, a major component of which is expansion to the north of the present structure’.
How is it then that the Minister of Health Dr David Estwick can be quoted in the MIDWEEK NATION by stating that ‘The plan is for a new purpose-built facility that would give us state-of-the art health care for the next 30 or 40 years, with few or no problems’.” …….and that ‘Cabinet is to decide “very, very, very soon” on where the new hospital was to be built……….since structural engineers and climate experts told him the area on the north grounds of the QEH, where former QEH board recommended building the new hospital was unsuitable.
Whether you like Mottley or the BLP or not, there seems to be more in the mortar than the pessle.
Did the people of Barbados not elect David Thompson to be the Prime Minister of Barbados? How is it then that the loud mouthed Minister of Health who is incompetent to do his job is making the PM look stupid in the public forum.
It seems that it is time he be replaced!

  25. Wishing In Vain

I think that you should appreciate that there should/would be BLP folk posting on this blog, and that despite the lost in the last elections, that their views will sometimes be meritorious.

In your last post, you harp again about rampant corruption fuelled by the BLP. You suggest that despite the lack of funds (due to BLP thievery) that the health care system is being administered even better than when the BLP were in power.

I know you think that any poster on this blog that does not hold your view must be a DLP supporter.

But cant you see that it DOES NOT TAKE ONE CENT TO CALL TOGETHER THE QEH PERSONNEL TO PLAN FOR THE EXPANSION OF THE DELIVERY OF EMERGENCY CARE IN BARBADOS AS WELL AS THE IMPROVEMENT IN SUCH CARE AT THE QEH AS ENUNCIATED EARLIER IN THE YEAR ON THIS FORUM BY ONE OF MY COLLEAGUES.

CANT YOU SEE THAT WHILE YOU ARE PAYING THE BILLS AND REGROUPING THAT PROPER PLANNING SHOULD BE GOING ON?

WOULD YOU CONCEDE THAT THE POSITION BY THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION I TODAYS PAPER HAS SOME MERIT?

  26. WIV

Take your time my friend, come the middle of this month you will have a clear view of more of the rampant corruption that you fuelled.

  28. What new QEH What!?!

All politicians in this country always rush to build new things.

This is because they are not spending their own money, because they are advised by ‘experts’ who stand to gain by choosing to BUILD NEW; and because these ‘experts’ are advised by technical professionals (Engineers, architects etc) who ALSO stand to benefit hugely from new projects.

…so everyone wants ‘new’ and the poor ‘patsies’ who foot the bill (taxpayers) have no say in the matter.

Stupid arguments about ‘the PM said this’ and the ‘Minister said that’, are not helpful; Politicians say things because THEY HAVE TO GIVE SPEECHES!! Full stop.

…I recall Gline Clarke saying that flyovers would be up by ‘year end’ over a period of years too..

The solution to these problems is to APPOINT PEOPLE TO DECISION MAKING POSITIONS WHO UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITIES OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES.

The QEH is a complex human and engineering quagmire. The problems there relate to Human Relations and complex engineering. What is a doctor doing in charge? There is already a wealth of medical expertise available to the QEH. Why is a successful Engineer and a highly successful HR administrator (or preferably someone with a history of success in BOTH areas) not appointed as Minister?

If the minister HAS to be a political appointee, than why is the Board not constituted with the needed skills and ALLOWED to run the place (instead of the minister running around making proclamations)?

Bush tea don’t know the correct answer to this dilemma, but I know that the default decision to ‘build new’ is short sighted, wasteful and not in the national interest.

A proper independent analysis by an independent professional would be a prerequisite to any such positions being taken at a serious level.

  29. Well Bush Tea bring the proof and stop posturing.

I have to agree whole heartedly with my cawmere friend here. But BT I real vexed wid ya though when ya wrote
“The solution to these problems is to APPOINT PEOPLE TO DECISION MAKING POSITIONS WHO UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITIES OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES.”

I thought you woulda say Cuh dear give GP the pick and see if he could solve the situation for we.

But you did admit that Bush tea don’t know the correct answer to this dilemma, so I forgive ya on dat score, and also because you correctly opine that the default decision to ‘build new’ is short sighted, wasteful and not in the national interest.

I keep on telling you that there is nothing wrong with a doctor being in charge BT. But you have to have the right doctor, man. Why do you need a successful Engineer BT?To do what? We done agree we don’t need no new hospital yet. If you will expand the hospital to the other side of Martidales Road or cross Jemmots Lane, then you need an engineer.

What highly successful HR administrator what? You think they got one of them at Bayview hospital?

The complexity in health issues in Barbados is not the QEH. I cant get you folk to stop thinking hospital, hospital, hospital all the time. The goal of medicine is to keep people out of hospital. The goal of modern medicine should be to keep primary care from taking place in hospitals.

I cant get you folk to see that the problems with our healthcare system does not revolve around the hospital. I am now hearing that we don’t have ambulances to get folk to hospital.

    Georgie,

Here is what a Fortune Magazine Editorial had to say on the matter…

“The management of medical care is too important to leave to doctors who are, after all, not managers to begin with.”

If we must put up with having a physician lead and set policy for our island’s health care BUSINESS, then they should at least possess BUSINESS and MANAGEMENT skills that match or surpass their knowledge of medicine… but GP, you are still my pick for health minister 🙂

With their lack of direction and focus I would suggest it will be where it is for a very long period they will wonder in the plitical wilderness, after all first they need to know who is their leader is, is it mottley or is it Mascot or is it See Thru??

When they answer that then they have the second hurdle to face it is do we really want a sexual molester and same sex beater as the leader of the Opposition??

We have real decent MORALS in this Nation and this is so out of touch with Mottley and her wayward, indecent, vulgar, moraless and disgusting person in MIA AMOUR MOTTLEY.

..I always defer to my superior MME in these areas (especially since he mash me up with that twin otter argument).
But I really do not think that you know what you are wishing for yourself….

Management of the hospital has nothing what so ever to do with ‘keeping people out of hospital’

Keeping populations out of hospital is about national health management. THIS IS NOT A JOB FOR DOCTORS. Recall that I explained that doctors only make money when people ARE SICK. (Right now, doctors achieve that objective by frustrating the QEH while providing efficient alternatives like Bayview, FMH etc.) …and if we make citizens too healthy then doctors could end up poor like those in Cuba…

What is needed here is (as MME says) a MANAGEMENT expert – (possibly even sport management.. to focus on preventative health issues)

    …as for QEH,
Even if only two patients are admitted, the institution still needs to be MANAGED…. ie equipment maintained, complex technical matters attended to, and critical alternatives assessed… People challenges need to be adjudicated and staff motivated…..

GP, I think you best run for political office and keep way from hospital management.

  37. MME

Thanks for the Education and thanks for the vote of confidence.
Ah mean my good cawmere friend Bush Tea didn’t even think that I should be considered!

But to be honest MME Fortune Magazine Editorial don’t know nothing about doctors man. I still believe that the management of medical care must be left to doctors. You better that the average private doctor anywhere in the world manages his private office well.

Let me tell you that you have to have some management skills to manage four wards plus ICU or four wards and assist in operation theater at QEH. LOL!

MME I guess I must agree with you that “ If we must put up with having a physician lead and set policy for our island’s health care BUSINESS, then they should at least possess BUSINESS and MANAGEMENT skills that match or surpass their knowledge of medicine.”

That is exactly what the current MOH does not possess.

MME the management of our health system does not need any rocket science.

I divide the care into PRIVATE CARE and PUBLIC CARE.
At any time the two of these can be interchangeable. Any morning you get up, and you feel like you want to hit one of the nearby polyclinics cause you have no money in your pockets you can do so. Its interchangeable!

If you got money you have fairly easy access to health care in Barbados whether primary, secondary or tertiary. You can go to your local GP or the private emergency room, and the guys will refer you to Bayview, cause YOU CAN PAY.

If you cant pay you need to go to the polyclinics for your primary care and most of your secondary care. SO YOU HAVE TO IMPROVE THIS AND MAKE IT MORE ACCESSIBLE. That’s so simple. That’s the obvious place to start improving and managing our healthcare system. Improve and decentralize the public ambulance services. Improve and increase the TRAINING of health care givers at all levels, but especially at the primary care level. In doing so you prevent primary care issues from escalating into secondary care and then tertiary care issues that then need hospital care.

Doing these things might seem minor but this is where you will get the most bang for your buck.

If you simultaneously improve the QEH emergency Dept you finish off the first stage of your improvement. That is you can more adequately handle /process those cases that have progressed to tertiary care, since it is known that a very high percentage of hospital admissions come via the emergency Dept.

These are issues which BT’s HR and engineering staff can not handle.

All we need is THE UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IS NEEDED. & THE WILL TO DO IT.

I believe it can be done.

May I suggest, you get your head examined? You’re a SICK person; you are obcessed with partisan, bias politics that seems to be getting the better of you: seem help quickly. BLP says, new hospital; DLP/ P.M says refurbish old hospital; DLP/Min.Health says build new hospital. Somebody got their lines crossed. All the Opposition Leader is saying explain the true position. That’s what she’s getting paid to do. You got a problem with that? I agree that they should build a new hospital but , who am I? If you don’t destress yourself, you will go wacky. Get REAL

  39. Waiting In Vain
Oh, I forgot to tell you, the DLP has won the Jan 15th elections. You can stop canvassing now. Time to get down to repairing the damage the BLP has done. I heard you getting the post of Min of Propaganda. Swearing in for you is in Black Rock at 8 a.m. We would send an ambulance and two orderlies to pick you up. Formal wear is expected BLACK PAJAMAS. I hope you have an ienjoyable time in Office/ Straight Jacket.

  40. Bush tea
Thanks for wanting to spare me from the rigors of attempting to run the MOH.

    I must correct you though.
Management of the hospital has MUCH to do with ‘keeping people out of hospital.
That is the role of the Public Health Doctor. That is the role of the MOH.

Keeping populations out of hospital is indeed about national health management. That is the role of the Public Health Doctor. That is the role of the MOH

THIS IS INDEED A JOB FOR DOCTORS BT. The Public Health Doctor focuses on preventative health issues

BT it is not exactly true that doctors only make money when people ARE SICK.I can assure you of that. There are other reasons for attending the Dr. For example many elderly Bajans go to the doctor regularly just to avoid a post mortem at death. Then there are activities classified as going to Dr TIMEON etc.

Doctors can not make people healthy BT. And doctors are not poor in Cuba because that country has superior healthcare.

BT you must understand that efficient alternatives like Bayview, FMH etc were developed because doctors who wanted to be efficient can not do so at QEH for various reasons.

I agree with you that “ Even if only two patients are admitted, the institution still needs to be MANAGED…. ie equipment maintained, complex technical matters attended to, and critical alternatives assessed… People challenges need to be adjudicated and staff motivated…..” But this used to be done before and it certainly is done at Bayview.

BT, I will not be running around begging Bajans to vote for me, nor will I study to do hospital management.

Unlike you I do not focus on the QEH. I see the QEH as a PART of our healthcare system- not the totality.

    @ GP

You got my vote already… but you are not the average doctor… and you are not drawing on your medical training and experience when you put forward those ideas. You are thinking like a manager. And you very well know that the management of a private clinic cant compare with that of a public hospital or national health care system… I caan leh yuh get way wid dat. You don’t have to answer to a soul in your private clinic… hire and fire as you like, shut it down at night if you think crime too high, shut it down on Wednesday afternoons to hit the greens, choose which customers you want (i.e. specialise)… we talking chalk and cheese… on that basis we could put any hairdresser or shop owner to run de hospital.

    @BT,

    what superior what?!?

I duz just try to aggravate you, GP and ST from time to time so that I could learn a lil something. You fellas are at your best when riled up LOL

Your rants are very amusing. I can understand that you feel hurt by the whipping that you were given. But you are not a psychologist or a psychiatrist, and your diagnosis is incorrect. I am neither insecure or angry. I just don’t suffer fools very gladly, that’s all.

Sure you will continue to say what you have to say—ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. At least I have made a contribution to this debate by giving sensible answers to Ganong’s questions. Both Ganong & I clearly have some idea about what we are saying, don’t you think?

What are you saying? I will not whip you this time, because I see that you are incorrigible and uneducable. I feel sorry for you.

Now be a nice boy now, before I have to put you to sit in the corner.

…GP, is the CEO of Bayview a doctor?

  44. MME

You don’t rile me up at all. I appreciate your contribution to the discussion, unlike others who are fighting with the messengers or just simply trying to promote their political agendas.

I am not the average doctor… I’M BROKE!
I am indeed drawing on my medical training and experience in Barbados when I put forward the ideas I have shared on this forum.

I am thinking like a manager because I am trying to analyze the needs of our system which I understand better than most who are opining on this blog on health care matters. If I was a well behaved boy and ass licker I might very well have been the Chief Medical Officer and now fighting with Estwick. Thank God Im a rebel!

I agree with you that the management of a private clinic cant compare with that of a public hospital or national health care system. I have never managed a private clinic, but I have given you what I think are reasonable answers to our health care needs drawing on my medical training and experience in Barbados.

  45. GP,

…Here is one of Bush tea’s riddles for you to ponder.

…The VERY worst appointment that can be made to manage a complex public institution is someone who knows all the answers…

The very best is usually someone honest, who UNDERSTANDS the issues, RESPECTS the professionals, Listens to experts, walks softly, ….and carry a big stick which is USED from time to time.

  46. @BT

Maybe Vere Browne is a good example. Nobody gave him a ghost of a chance at the NCF when he replaced Consultant Boo Rudder and CEO Ian Estwick but he was able to come through. His public offerings suggest that he will be receptive to feedback from the public. We like what we have been hearing from him so far.

  47. Dr. Boobie,
I feel so sorry for you. You call me “incorrigible and uneducated”. You don’t know anything aboout me. Gets back to my point. You can’t agree to disagree. Again-INSECURITY. I will continue to make contributions to these blogs while you rant and rave and try to insult me. By the way I am having sleepless nights over your comments. Ha Ha Ha!!!!

Has anyone read the Minister’s statement with regard to some of the findings at URBAN COMMISSION in today’s newspaper???

It shows us just how the department was being used by mottley and arthur to distribute political good will and buy votes.

Take your time my friend, come the middle of this month you will have a clear view of more of the rampant corruption that you fuelled.

When in her own vindictive vile ways can set about giving direction to loyal blp PS ’s we have a real and serious issue, I have been hearing about many PS that are not functioning but this is the first case of clear cut sabotage and deceit that has manifested itself in a full blown way.
Let me suggest that this Barbados is for all of us to live on and for mottley to display such crass, moraless, wicked manner and method does she nor the BLP any good.

  49. BT

I agree with you again that The very best is usually someone honest, who UNDERSTANDS the issues, RESPECTS the professionals, Listens to experts, walks softly, ….and carry a big stick which is USED from time to time.

Thats why a doctor OUGHT to be able to do the job! LOL

  50. BT
When I was in training at QEH there were some doctors who had the qualities you describe above. I guess I learned a lot from them.
