Some commenters – on Barbados Underground – have asked, why is a certain Minister in the media so often…and to what purpose? Dare I say it – and I could be wrong – perhaps it is to do with face recognition, name recall and authority-association.

In order for someone to like you, it helps if they know you, you are respected, and they see in you what they aspire to, or they admire your personal achievements and ideals. The thinking to my humble mind, goes like this. Who will be our major opponents in the future, how can we combat them. Preparation is always the key. We, therefore have to match them at every turn. Situations will be seen like for like – although they will not be – we must have more and better to offer.

You could say the election is years away and there is a lot of work to be done “now.” All true, but the prudent Party is in it for the long haul, it wants the opposition to have a long wait, before regaining power. Of course I could be very wrong indeed, and my theory could be all at sea, but I offer that scenario to you as a thinking exercise. If it is that a certain Minister is being positioned as a counterweight in the minds of the electorate – either inadvertenly or on purpose – to another figure, interesting times are ahead.

In issues of this kind it sometimes helps to state a “personal position.” The reader can then make an honest judgment, as to if there is some bias in what you have written. I have never said or written a “personal” negative word about the individuals to whom I refer, not even during the heat of the last election. I do not know any of the players personally, have not had a job from them or through them, neither do I want one. Neither do I seek wealth or a position.

I am just an ordinary Bajan boy making a comment on the blogs…I am one of the “common people”.

    Hartley Henry’s prowess as a political strategist manifested itself in the general election just gone. Might we suggest that the basis upon which Byer-Sukoo is being pushed may have to do with what she and her ministry represent rather than a mano on mano approach? The success of the strategy may rely on Byer-Sukoo’s ability to deliver programs which embodies the popular view of the people.
    =================================

    Fair enough, I can buy that argument, and don’t get me wrong Sukoo as the image of the DLP Magnifies the Image of Mia as the spoke person for the opposition. It brings everything about Mia “I am who I am” Mottley in such a sharp focus that it may very well explain her absense from the Media, and the apparent decision to issue press release instead. But at the end of day the people will vote out or validate a government, So inspite of the severe disadvantage a Sukoo media blitz presents to Mia, the DLP still has to deliver, to qualify for re-election.

    …Thats why i keep saying to let the axe fall on the hacks. 🙂

    @ Adrian Hinds…
    Do you think that Dr. Byer Suckhoo’s seat is hard to maintain?
    =================================

    No i don’t think it is hard to maintain, I don’t think any seat in Barbados is difficult to maintain. Bajans have a very simple idea about representation that i am surprise there are not more safe seats base on personality. Anyway i does not matter to the DLP if Sukoo keeps here seat her image will continue to disadvantage Mia, in this parliamentary term. It only Thompy that has to prove himself as the PM, Mia has to prove herself as the LOTO, and she is not off to a very good start. But it is early days yet for both sides.

    Mrs Suckoo need not become the leader of the DLP or the nation. She has already demonstrated what a lady is, and ought to be.

    =================================

    I wasn’t suggesting such. Remember there isn’t much votes that seperate the two parties. First past the post systems tend to erroneously magnify wins. There was a time leading up to the last elections when it was believe that the DLP’s strategy had seem to be one of winning by default, since it is accepted that Bajans vote out governments. If the BLP hacks are successful in painting an image of an effective DLP government per their manifesto promises and the people buy into this argument by 10,000 votes, who do you think will be the next PM?

    ….Let the axe fall on the Hacks.

  6. Georgie Porgie // July 6, 2008 at 1:32 pm

    Mrs Suckoo’s exposure (or over-exposure to some) is saying

    THIS IS WHAT A LADY LOOKS LIKE-not what is exhibited by “that thing”
    THIS IS HOW A LADY BEHAVES-not what is exhibited by “that thing”
    THIS IS THE IDEAL FOR YOUNG GIRLS-not what is exhibited by “that thing”

    THIS IS HOW A LADY SPEAKS -not like how “that thing” speaks
    =================================

    The people of St.Michael North East by their overwhelming support of Mia over the years have continue to reject your position. One constituent even went as far as to name her daughter after Mia. Child abuse? I think so but you get my drift. 🙂

    Getting back off topic, why exactly is your adopted country occupying Iraq?

    Your stooges have killed the president, disbanded all law and order, killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, ruined the infrastructure of a whole nation and for what?

    WMD?

    American style democracy?

    Defence against foreign enemies?

    Please justify your president’s imperialistic ambitions as they relate to the United States’ Constitution.

    We all await your considered response.

    No I do not get your drift.

    As far as I am concerned the issue is not about what the electors of St.Michael North East think. That has nothing to do with the exposure or over exposure of “that thing.”

    If the electors of St.Michael North East vote for that thing for an eternity it might mean that the electors of St.Michael North East like “that thing” or prefer it to what ever candidate the opposition presents to the electorate.

    It does not negate the fact that Mrs Suckoo looks like a lady, sounds like a lady and behaves like a lady, and that the behavior of “that thing” is disgusting and reprehensible. That is the single clear point that I sought to make, and made in perfect prose.

    The fact that one constituent even went as far as to name her daughter after “that thing” is irrelevant and suggests to me, inter alia, that that constituent is of the same ilk! (Note I don’t use the word ONLY). Who knows she might have beaten her to do so, so I cant say only.

    However, this does not negate that the image presented by Mrs Suckoo is that of a lady, whereas that of that thing is nothing like that of a lady and more like a yahoo, a wicker a beater and biter of women. Her character is abominable and disgusting and ungodly, and I can go on.

    I did not say that you said that Mrs Suckoo need not become the leader of the DLP or the nation. I said that, and I added that Mrs Suckoo has already demonstrated what a lady is like , and ought to be like. Again my posts have said nothing about votes or elections or nothing of the like, nor am I hacking any one or for anyone. I am not interested either in what her political party or others might be doing strategy wise.I stated my position very clearly in perfect English, that anyone who understands English can understand.

    Mrs Suckoo looks like a lady, speaks like a lady and behaves like a lady! Of this there is no doubt.

    The BLP set the tone for the destruction of Barbados from 81-86. What they didnt finish then, they continued in 94-08.

    The Dees not so wicked, but this crop are clueless.

  10. Earlier in the year I said Dr.Suckoo will be the first FEmale Prime Minister of Barbados, and ME shot down the idea with the same question. I stand by my belief. However, the DLP government is only six months old. Pray tell me what family values Mia will bring to the table. She smokes like a big chimney; she needs to get married to a man and have a baby; Kerrie Simmons sounds more like Mia should sound and she more like he should sound when they speak. Mia also has the distinction of being the only Minister in the Caribean to have a whole prison, under her portfolio, burn down on her watch. Mia also wanted to curtail freedom of speech on these blogs and on talk shows. And I remember also during one of her submissions to Parliament about three years ago, she was pushing for gay rights to form part of a revised constitution for a Republic of Barbados. I think she is the perfect candidate to lead the BLP into the next or any future elections. It must be really emotionally hard on MIA when in Parliament she has to look at a real beauty queen speaking so eloquently and passionately on issues.And ME, Dr.Suckoo is a much better candidate for St.George south than stupid Cupid could ever be. She is our Queen! When you see her BOW! Stay tuned yah hear?

    Robot

    First let me point out that I am neither Bee or Dee. But tell me as an example, what has this DLP administration done in Health in the six months they have been in office.

  12. GP i gine left you to rant pun Mia. To say that i like is putting it very mildly. 🙂

    BTW you like you got some time on your hands to be engaging ROBOT in a response to his shouting. 😉

    No Adrian I dont have time with Robot. I appreciate that it is the thing for folk to have a PC and internet access. I just led him down the garden path, or down the wicket or up my alley (health matters.).

    He can shout as loud as he likes, but he will look like an idiot if he dares to respond.

  14. Is this the same Georgie Porgie who wrote so much about God and the love of Christ etc calling another human being “that thing”? Please don’t take this political mauvais langue to the point that it makes you look silly. Leave that for WIV.

  15. I am not so sure that is why she set her practice in St George but you can believe what you wish. I ma sure she makes alot of money either way. The rent in Blleville is quite a deterrent.

    Still dont see that there is as yet a worthwhile comparison between the two. Etsher is a ‘pretty’ light weight!

  16. @me

    We know that you understand the bigger point being made. We did say that we are not doing a mano on mano comparison but it was more an embodiment of certain values which some are suggesting might be juxtaposed later to support various arguments.
