The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) officially introduced its 30 candidates last night to run in the upcoming General Election against the tranquil backdrop of the Caribbean Sea, and punctuated with the songs of music from several top local artistes which culminated with the international Luciano. BU would have needed the help of Peter Wickham’s CADRES to determine who amongst the large throng gathered were present to witness the entertainment or the political offerings. The BU household noticed that the make-up of the crowd came in all shapes and sizes; we witnessed Blacks, Whites, Chinese, Guyanese, Jamaicans, lawyers, doctors, bankers, the unemployed and BLPites to name a few groups.
The huge crowd which settled in the basin of the Bay Gardens in Oistins was treated to a Cultural Extravaganza which was only dampened when the sound system failed and caused proceedings to halt for 30 minutes plus. Leader of the Opposition David Thompson later apologized to those in attendance and attributed the mishap to sabotage. He reported that wires were cut! A part of the crowd panicked soon after when some jostling occurred but calm was quickly restored.
A few of the candidates addressed the large crowd but it was the usual political rhetoric. We should mention that Denis Kelman still found the time to be a real turn-off in his delivery; his speech was too long in the context of the limited time which was allotted to others. David Thompson used the opportunity, despite the shortened time caused by the cut-wire incident, to address the issue of leadership. It appears at this early stage of the campaign that LEADERSHIP will be a key issue, and he has elected to tackle it head-on! He was deliberate to make the point that he became a member of the DLP while still a schoolboy in 1978. He had to work 8 years while in the Opposition to earn his chance to be in government – listen to David Thompson. This was obviously a swipe at Mascoll and the several former DLPites who crossed the floor familiarly known as Arthur’s politics of inclusion.
Tonight it will be the turn of the Barbados Labour Party’s in Bay Street.
P.S. How could we forget the very short video presented on two huge screens which featured a news capsule from the People News Network (PNN) which was hosted by Patrick Gollop who interviewed Clyde Mascoll played by his look alike, Malik. It was hilarious to all who witnessed it.
This one massively attended meeting easily 20,000 to 25,000 strong and yes the audio was sabotaged by someone, the wires were cut as was stated by the PM in waiting Mr David Thompson and yes someone was arrested for this cowardly act.
If the blp belief that these tactics will scare those of us who love our DEMOCRACY and our FREEDOM’S away from voting them out of office they have another thought coming, the truth is that actions such as these only firm our resolve to hussle this gang of crooks out office even sooner.

Congrats TEAM DLP !
Your General Election launch was AWESOME , DYNAMIC & ELECTRIFYING !
Those 32,000 persons ( FINAL COUNT ) who journeyed to Oistins Town……I am sure were left awestruck by your presentation !
Yep…….32,000 STRONG in the audience !
What a CHOCK – O – BLOCK crowd it was !
The Bajans artistes started the LIFT…..LUCIANO finally took the audience to that HIGHER plain !
My QUESTION for Owen Arthur & the BLP :
After seeing the clipping on the DLP big screen again……..why was the same words of Owen Arthur REMOVED from BLP TV ?

it was interesting to hear Thompson promised the large crowd last night that a priority with his government will be the implementation of integrity legislation. Our friends over at BFP will be happy to hear this because they have been a great advocate for it.
This activity took place very close to me and when the melee started it was a scramble to get out the area but reports reaching me state that a young man was held and that he was beaten.
As you can guess with a crowd as massive as this one was an action such as one like this would create havoc and fright, much to the credit to Mr Ronald Jones he brought calm back to the area very quickly and much credit must go to the RBPF as they were into this in a matter of seconds.
It is a sad day when Mr David Thompson has to be moved around his friends and his supporters and the people of Barbados by large numbers of police it really is a sad day.
In speaking with one of the police on the scene last evening he suggested that they estimated the crowd to be between 28,000 and 30,000, this is massive by anyone’s view and a crowd of this size would have brought its challenges which were well managed by the RBPF.
On a further note the planned event in Owing Arthur’s home town for Old Years night was a TOTAL AND COMPLETE FLOP IT WAS A FAILURE WITH NO ONE ATTENDING, 12 people, six rats and Owing in aattendance does not say much about his crowd appeal or pull right now.
WIV, LOL you don’t miss a beat with your pro dlp report, I like um but i wonder how true your reporting is? The crowd was indeed large as reported to me by a police family member of mine. But were you able to count the rats at Owen old years night thing? I don’t believe you. 😀
We must see that comment for what it really was meant to do , it was meant to show his power and his belief that this island is his to as he likes with it, it is an arrogant, cocky, bombastic, reckless statement made by a callous arrogant person and it needs to be seen and taken for what it is a statement to kill off our FREEDOM OF CHOICE OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH TO KILL OFF OUR DEMOCRACY and people need to realise this statement for what it is ARROGANT and SLEF SERVING.
So too the nonsense expelled by the empty one mottley, when in her need and her greed for power she can tell the BARBADIAN PUBLIC that we are going to vote on if we are to become a republic or not at the same time that we vote to elect a Gov’t this was pure immuture hogwash, she as always opens her mouth and not know what will come out of it, share stupidity on her behalf.
Why threaten Barbadians with her nonsense knowing full well that it cannot happen?
Was she set up once again by Arthur to make her look like an idiot once again?
Could dear I was having a little fun with the 12 rats some may suggest that we have 24 rats in our midst!!!!
But the Eradicators are out to assist in removing this vermin from amongst us !!!!
WHAT NEW HOSPITAL ???? !!!!
On the Eve of a General Election Health Minister Jerome Walcott announced that this BLP government would build a new hospital at a cost of $700 million Barbados dollars.
We can’t be fooled, we are educated. How can any government arrive at a cost for a project as major as the building of a hospital without the following? :
No Architectural Drawings of the Proposed Hospital
No T&CP Approved Architectural Building Plans
No Environmental Impact Studies
No Independent Quantity Surveyors Reports
No Tenders for the Construction of the Hospital
AFTER ALLOWING HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT AT THE QEH AND OUR POLYCLINICS TO DETERIORATE TO AN UNACCEPTABLE LEVEL, USING ELECTION GIMMICKS WILL NOT WORK !!!!!!
Our citizens deserve better treatment than the arrogance displayed by the outgoing government.
HEALTH CARE IS SICK – VOTE FOR A CHANGE IN ITS’ TREATMENT !!!!!!!
WELL I AM NOW SEEING THE BACK PAGE OF TODAYS NATION NEWSPAPER AND I AM DUMBFOUNDED WHEN CAN SEE IN BLACK AND WHITE THAT OWING HAS NOW PUBLICLY DUMPED MOTTLEY AND HAS BOLDLY STATED THAT ASSCOLL WILL BE HIS DEPUTY.
THIS IS AN AMAZING STATEMENT WHICH CLEARLY EXPLAINS THE DISORDER AND DISUNITY WITHIN THE BLP.
THIS IS A MOST AMAZING AND REVEALING ASPECT OF THIS ELECTION CAMPAIGN, WE HAVE MOTTLEY’S LITTLE CLAN FIGHTING AGAINST OWING AND HIS LITTLE CLAN AND WE ARE YET TO HEAR A WORD FROM THE PRESS, THE CHURCH, THE UWI GROUP WHERE ARE THEIR MOUTHS ON THESE SUBJECTS.
….ha ha ha But if Mascoll and Owen are CO-LEADERS OF THE BLP then this means that MIA is still someboy’s deputy, …still playing second fiddle right? Poor Mia can’t catch a break at all. Well we know that Oil and water don’t really mix and these oil and water BLPites are no different, I realize that Mascoll like he only got one red shirt, a red polo shirt, and that his duke check eddie shirt aint exactly red, is he fully committed to the BEEs?
ha ha ha ha ha in all seriousness, it is clear that Owen told a lie about Mascoll being CO-Leader of the BLP.
1: in the same speech he refers to the same suppose CO-LEADER as being a member of “MY” team and doing work for HIM.
2: Mia Mottley at Owen’s nomination, clearly lays out the official parliamentary process for picking the parliamentary leader, where there is no concept or space for a “co-leader and we know that the BLP has a 70 year tradition of picking it’s leaders and it’s candidates, none of which speaks to or about a CO-LEADER.
So this announcement is a lie pure and simple, drunken lie to boot, and de only body that will believe it is Mascoll, and were it not for the print medias and the Blogs to remind Arthur he too would not remember it or take it seriously. 😀 Oh lorwd to be drunk, sober and be Owen Arthur.

Indeed!
It is has been our tradition in Barbados to run to the A& E of the hospital, and to run with our relatives to the A& E of hospital for every little ailment.. A smart DLP will stop this in 2008! There is no need to run to the A& E of hospital for EVERYHING.
Visits to the A& E should be determined by our general practice doctors in both the public and private sector in consultation with the A& E doctors.
Government must decentralize the A& E by converting every polyclinic to a 24/7 A& E Department in addition to its current services. The services at the polyclinics must be restored to its former glory and A& E services added. This will take the pressure of the QEH. A wise DLP government wouldl then address the issues at the QEH.

and whatever systems are used to SUCCESSFULLY decentralize the inefficiencies of the A&E must be brought to bare to likewise decentralize governance in our country. Surely we all can agree that they are many glaring inefficiencies in our parliament and systems of governance.
The warning to an ageing Owen Arthur & failed company now, is to clean up your act and remember that everything must come to an end.
Gone are the days when the citizens will swallow your characteristic misleading and warlike behavior; you have now met your match and finally the people have latched on to the empty gimmicks and tricks – they work no more.
Old people say “that night runs until daylight catches it”. The new DLP and the blogs will not let you get away with further manipulation, financial swindling and bogus reporting of the facts. The day is fast approaching when your embarrassing leadership will cease and judgment day will follow.
Co-conspirators and co-leaders will be running for cover when you get the results. Every ill begotten cent will be needed for your Lawyers.
Politicians who stole the nation’s recourses will be hunted down and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law when they demit office for they will not be allowed to live a lavish lifestyle while leaving us to pay down the fraudulent National debt.
Hold it WIV. Let’s be realistic, a FREE SHOW with the likes of Luciano, Krosfyah, Li’l Rick and a host of top class party mobilisers will definitely attrach massive crowds since all major entertainment establishments would have been closed. What we have to ask ourselves, HOW MANY WENT FOR ENTERTAINMENT and HOW MANY WENT FOR POLITICS. Even Peter Wickham will find it hard to give a true percentage. So please, do not use crowds as an equation. Could you enlighten the blog country who the culprit that cut the wires. Was he a Dee, a Bee, a Misfit or was he upset with the noise. Just Asking?
It is interesting that the Prime Minister spent most of New Years Day in St.Michael North West. Is it that he feels Mascoll is in trouble or is he just making sure? One way or the next he is using a strategy which Adams used to get in the House of Assembly, he is prepared to enter the trenches for the man he wants by his side. Interesting side story of this election.
frankology,
Check the news and listen to the police announcement.
NO WIRES WERE CUT. There was a sounds system malfunction.
WIV read the Barbadso Advocate Sunday December 30, 2007 Page 9 and you will see that that the church is speaking out just as it always has…Straight from the Heart
Frankolgy you do not warrant a reply you are wraped.
I don’t always agree with frankology as at times one cannot garner if he is fish or fowl. However his question is pertinent, how many went for the show and how many went for the politics.
Although it is good marketing concept if you get the people there, there is a chance that they will here the message.
I however do not want to be entertained at this time in my country’s life, I want hard cold facts, I want to know which party will stop this slide into morass and decadence.
I must also say the DLP has testicular fortitude to want to take on the insurmountable amount of problems and that they will face when they win they Government. I commend them.
I for one know that it is time for change this is not about party loyalty but about patriotism some one must care about this country called Barbados.
Correction that should be “hear the message” and not “here the message”
if they had 30,000 people and half were there for the meeting that is 15,000 it would still have been a massive meeting lets face reality guys.
Can you believe David Thompson these days? He said the wires were cut at oistins and the police say they were not. Who do you believe? I can assure you that the police are more believable
if they had 30,000 people and half were there for the meeting that is 15,000 it would still have been a massive meeting lets face reality guys.
…………………………………………………………………….
WIV, I am putting to you that the majority of people attending came primarily for the FREE SHOW, you like it or not. It was a Bank Holiday, It was FREE, It hag Luciano, It had Li’l Rick, it had Krosfyah and it had Buggy and others and you didn’t have to pay ‘a cent’. Take away the entertainers and you would see who is warped.
By the way, why Luciano, did David think that he was at Reggae Festival or he want to Jamaicanise Barbados politics?
Frankolgy, so hasn’t the introduction of dirty politics by the BLP mass e-mailing of SPAM etc has Americanized Bajan politics.
The concert had a positive message. Pick sense.
Does anybody really care what Frankology thinks? The Dems cultural extravaganza that starred Luciano who by the way invited his audiance to give David Thompson a chance, …..this cultural extravaganza cause the the BLP to change it’s format tonight at baystreet and to acknowledge that they don’t have 28,000 at their thing. Poor Owen can’t drink a liquor without his tongue getting him into trouble and having to stroke Mia in public that she is de real deputy. After making his drunkard CO-LEADER lying statement yesterday he was force to sing Mia praise again tonight. Before long he will be force to come right out and say that he is fighting to satisfy both Mascoll and Mia. 😀 he came real close to saying it tonight. ha ha ha ha ha
The use of entertainment acts to drive traffic to a desired location to be bombarded with a message is not any novel strategy. Mia used it when she was Minister of Education when she quite regularly used Edwin and Krosfya.
Why Luciano? 100% positive and conscious.
Entertainment to draw crowds? Standard BLP tactic for everything.
Dirty politics? Check Williams Duguid’s election circular.
Mascoll as “co-leader”? He said tonight on stage “you must vote for the DLP, oops, sorry, uh mean BLP”
Noel Lynch’s quote for the night? “De Dems don’t talk to one another. David don’t talk to Mascoll”
They are all on their last legs and they know it. Desperation is setting in. Let’s do our jobs as voters.
Statement by Adrian Hinds:
Does anybody really care what Frankology thinks?
Statement by Observing:
Why Luciano? 100% positive and conscious.
Entertainment to draw crowds? Standard BLP tactic for everything.
Statement by WIV:
if they had 30,000 people and half were there for the meeting that is 15,000 it would still have been a massive meeting
These are statements by DLP operatives. I am just allaying to the fact this time around, the Dems concentrated too much on the entertainment package which overshadowed the real reason of presenting your candidates. It would have been better to keep quiet than to espouse your usually venom.
Adrian “I am a friend of all, and satellite of none” Partisan people do not think, they only blabber and refuse to deal with the issues.
I refuse to attend either the Dees or the Dees meeting. If the Dees had 30,000 as predicted by your writers, the equation would be the amount divided by the amount of entertainers. If the Bees had 10,000, the results will be 100% candidates. That is what I am talking about.
All the talk, the people of Barbados are ready for a change. I have listened attentively to all being said and the Government is trying to work a tired 3 term strategy of making leadership the election issue.
I have listened to David Thompson speaking and was impressed with his presentation at My Lords Hill. He and the Party are on the right track. This is the DLP’s election.
By the way, I’m a card carrying member of the DLP. My association with the party goes back to the days when I was a teenager. I believed then as I believe now that it is the true party of the Barbadian people. This great Party has a proud record of social development in this country bar none and no one should forget that.
Good for you Lanette: by letting it be known what your party affliations are when making your statements, you have set an example for
Kim Young Belgrave
Hal Gollop
Frankology and others to follow.
My name is Adrian Hinds and i have no party affiliations. However i am supporting the DLP in this election, to be return as the next government of Barbados.
People who don’t vote, don’t have any say, and therefore i will not be listening to them. 😀
No one is listen, so I prefer to speak into my mirror.
I will wait for David’s Press Conference today since no one is on the blogs.
Are these blogs experiencing hostile takeovers by the DLP?
This is a fantastic quote by Patricia Inniss…”The good people have been keeping quiet and the bad have been doing whatever they like”. No wonder the amount of partisan DLP writers.
Sorry.. I mean ” No one is listening”
Because of the hairline ideologies of the leading parties; and having intentions of voting for the PEP. I must inform you that since my constituency do not have a PEP representative I have no intention of voting for the other parties.
That is my rights.
Frankology.
There is no PEP candidate in St. Peter !
By the way…..have YOU studied the meaning of a CO – LEADER ?
Is it a good reward for the selling of one’s SOUL ?
Is it not TRUE that it was the BLP who CHIDED this CO – LEADER most…..DISPARAGINGLY ?
HOT OFF THE NATIONAL PRESS NEWS REACHING ME RIGHT NOW CONFIRMS THAT MOTTLEY AND ARTHUR CAME TO HIGH WORDS AND MILLER TRIED TO INTERVENE IN THE CUSSING AND IT MOVED TO A ALL OUT FIST FIGHT AND CUFFING AND A AND FIGHT.
IT WAS SO BAD THAT THE POLICE HAD TO BE CALLED IN TO SEPERATE THEM AND TO PUT AN END TO THE FIGHTING.
THIS IS REALLY WONDERFUL FOR OUR PM AND DPM TO BE GOING TO FIST FIGHTS AND ALL OUT WAR JUST PRIOR TO AN ELECTION..
THESE ARE THE SAME ANIMALS THAT ARE ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT A DIVISION WITHIN THE DLP THERE IS NO DIVIDE AS THER IS WITHIN THE BLP THIS IS AN ALL OUT WAR.
I don’t know how many where in Oistins for the entertainment of the political message. I went because I was interested in both. The entertainment approach is a tried an true BLP strategy so I was curious to see how well the DLP would execute it.
I didn’t find the entertainment sections long either, in fact up until when I left at 11:30pm or so, more of the event was presentation of candidates and very short speeches with the exceptions of Denis Kellman, Freundel Stuart and David Thompson.
When the mic went out, the turntable that Versiwile had performed at was turned on and music was played through the large speakers. For a power cut only to
take out a mic is strange. Not questioning the integrity of the RBPF but
I found the power cut report strange.
The crowd remained very quiet and still during the cut, with a few people leaving. The RBPF did an excellent job with security, and I commend them for their hard work and dedication, the response to the scuffle was rapid.
For a political meeting it was very quiet, and even with the entertainment
there was a “sombre vibe” I don’t know what happened with Luciano because I left, but for a new years day cultural extravaganza it was not as festive as I
anticipated. The crowd was more representative of Barbados than Spring Garden on Kadooment Day, in fact I have not been in the presence of
so many Barbadians from such diverse backgrounds in many years.
I believe that the Government will change, although I still haven’t decided who to vote for….Barbados is such a small and intimate society you can end up choosing between friends and family…
…”The good people have been keeping quiet and the bad have been doing whatever they like”. No wonder the amount of partisan DLP writers.
————————–
Are you inferring that partisan DLP writers are bad?
Pingback: Politics » The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Takes-off
Are we really and truely living in a DEMOCRACY or are we living in a DICTATORSHIP.
Here we are now hearing that the debate slated for today has been called off because Mr Dale Marshall’s non appearance at C B C today to partake in the debate between he and Michael Lashley.
Now when the ruling party can be this arrogant and ill caring to the people it serves it is sad day in our political life of our nation.
It is also my understanding that the likelyhood of the other debates coming off is very unlikely because a letter received yesterday from CBC stating that they were not in agreement with the request to have the two leaders debate each other, so as we have said before the arrogance and callous nature of this gang of crooks is showing more and more,.
NOW PLEASE TELL ME WHO IS RUNNING FROM THESE DEBATES?
IT CERTAINLY APPEARS THAT THE DLP ARE READY WILLING AND ABLE BUT THE BLP ARE RUNNING SCARED AND ARROGANT.
Reports now reaching me also state that we are seeing a new form of theft raising its face on the island and these reports are confirmed and centre around the area of the Pine and the items being reported stolen are DLP TEE SHIRTS a lady called today trying to find replacement TEE SHIRTS as she reported that she was some and hung them out to dry and then had then stolen off her clothes line.
My request to those that want these much wanted shirts is to contact your representative of your area and make your request for your shirt but please do not steal them from your neighbour, because your neighbour is also very much in love with their DLP TEE SHIRTS as well.
What’s the deal with the debates WIV? Was there one scheduled for 8:30 tonight? Has that and/or the others been called off?
NO DEBATES AFTER ALL IT IS A SOURCE OF HEADACHES FOR ARTHUR AND COMPANY
As stated before, two terms should be mandatory for any Government, and I prefer the Democratic Labour Party forming the next Government. A position of my ilk will show you what a true neutrality writer is all about.
Owen and company, you had your time, the people experienced your management and are willing to test a new manager. The people are speaking, listen and take your exit gracefully.
Now to the Manager-in-waiting. Your task will not be easy, when you was the navigator, you criticise the way the driver was driving, you say “the driver cannot drive”. You will be behind the wheel from the 16th, you will be controlling the brakes and the gas, you will be nervous and might push the wrong pedal. We know you need a chance to show that you can drive, we will give you that chance, but you got to listen and try not to be difficult, you will have to negotiate some dangerous corners so reduce your anger, think before giving more gas and you will find negotiating that much easier. The five year road will be long and treacherous and you must have a deputy that can drive, not to drive you mad. You must have helpers if you have a flat, these helpers are called ministers who you will allocate job description, let them operate, but ensure that our taxpayer dollars are protected. Befriend your opposers and entice them with trust, respect and probably, you will inherit new blood in your camp. Speak to your friends and foes in the same tongue, everyone will be looking up to you as a leader. Please do not disappoint us, this is our country and we must forget partisan politics after the 16th and work together to make this country a better place.
Foiled up, and by the same token the public will ask you to pack your backs and leave.
I met my future representative today and he is a DLP candidate. Sorry ’bout that Clyde no hard feelings, someone from your campaign called asking which party I am voting for….I answered the questions but they refused to answer mine, how rude. Hope being co-leader of the opposition turns out good for you.
BREAKING NEWS FROM THE ELECTION FRONT.
It has just been reported to me from a very reliable source that the story that broke yesterday about a fight between mottley and Owing is now confirmed by the police and the facts are that yesterday afternoon a fight broke out between mottley and Owing during which mottley took a chair up and threw it at Owing after which the police were called to investigate the matter.
The follow up to this event of yesterday, tonight at a meeting to launch Noeless Blarney Lynch’s campaign at a meeting in Beckles road Owing was a no show and he did not bother to attend the meeting.
Now please tell me which party has clear cut conflicts within their ranks??
Not the DLP as these scamps would have you belief but certainly this scamps the blp do, to the point that they throw around chairs at one another.
Wonderful style for young ones to follow and to look up to and admire.
DLP is trying to stream but struggling so it seems.
