Many marvelled at the speed of the campaign. Posters were slapped onto utility poles quickly. Some appeared within hours of Prime Minister Mia Mottley announcing the February 11, 2026 general election. Yet weeks later, many of the now weather beaten posters still cling to the poles across the island. This is despite repeated calls from Barbados Light & Power. They are an eyesore in a country that relies on its beauty to entice tourists. The tourists that pay our bills.

Barbados has become an undisciplined society, and on its current trajectory appears to be in a race to the bottom. If anyone needs convincing, there is the litter that is casually tossed to the ground by children and adults alike, the minibuses and private cars that use the road as a racetrack and feed a negative sub culture, Auditor General reports ignored. Inability or refusal of successive government to lodge audited NISSS financial statements in parliament as required by law, The stinking smell of weed that offends the nostrils at every turn, since 2022 averaging over 40 murders with 2023 an outlier…

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” — Martin Luther King Jr

There has been a slow creep of decadence in recent years, these fault lines have now widened into gaping cracks. A case of what monkey see, monkey do. How can our society improve if leaders in government and NGOs are not leading by example?

The government promised that it was imperative to implement tint regulations as an aid to combat serious crime. After a few stops and starts the road traffic law was amended to take effect on December 1, 2025. Three months later there has been no visibility given this issue. Daily vehicles can be seen with very dark tint unperturbed that any law is being broken.

In less than a month after winning office for an unprecedented third time 30-0 the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2026 passed into law. A law designed to ensure any member of parliament who resigns from a policial party, is expelled from, or defects from the political party under which they were elected to vacate their seat, a by‑election must be called. In contrast the Integrity in Public Life Act (2023) is yet to be operationalised by a Mottley government after three terms in office. It should be noted that this type of transparency legislation was promised by BOTH main political parties going back over thirty years. It doesn’t matter the party colours, they all members of the club, ask Michael Lashley and Chris Sinckler.

These imperfections are not isolated failures; they are symptoms of a national drift. When laws are ignored, when a promise is simply a comfort for a fool, and when leaders fail to model the discipline they demand of others, the public is bound to follow suit. Either we reclaim the standards that once defined us and made us the envy of many, or we continue sliding into a culture where anything goes and nothing improves. The direction we choose will obviously decide the country we become.

Are we there yet?

  1. There is another case to be made. For some have argued that capitalism, in all its forms, represents a race to the bottom. And if they are right the opposite case can be made. That case being that the bottom is the top and that the top is the bottom. Don’t some now not contend that a bottom is a fronts? The rejoinder will therefore ilogically conclude that the country is succeeding, it’s punching above its weight, nothing to see here, more of the same, rinse and repeat!

  3. There was a time when political parties would hire crews, working late into the final campaign night before and maybe very early into election day, to remove campaign paraphenalia before electors go to the voting stations. It was anathema then to openly be seen to be influencing voters on election day. People use to turn campaign t-shirts inside out, alcohol was removed from displays, etc. No more?

However, when the political hegemon spends ALL the money to keep the dictatorial regime in place, is there any wonder when they, like Christians, fail to wash their collective ass after shiiiting all ’bout the place, on telephone poles and everywhere else, that the stench of governmental corruption and law breaking will follow them into power and be the established governance model?

How is this translating into tourist arrivals?

Does anybody have statistics on whether they are up or down?

With all the negative reports on this blog, surely these issues will start to affect tourism?

  5. Integrity in Public Life Act (2023)?

An Integrity Bill would violate Africa’s dignity. Our Aborigines should not copy the anti-corruption legislation of the white Scandinavians, because that would be cultural appropriation from the Vikings. They should stick to their African heritage, where favoring one’s own tribe is a moral law.

Our government would therefore be wise to stick to our traditional customs. I would even suggest abolishing the highly deficient anti-corruption laws from the colonial era and doing nothing to replace them.

  7. A GREAT PIECE MR. BLOGMASTER, BUT SADLY IT ALL FALLS ON DEAF EARS – FOR THE ONLY THING THAT PROVES TO BE CONSTANT IN B’DOS IS THE INABILITY 2 CHANGE

Great as a rhetorical workshop – where the echo-chamber of the sound of our own voices reverberates like a Lionel Ritchie song!!!

Also great @ giving the carpel tunnels some exercise first thing in the morning & last thing @ nite – but that’s basically all it is, bruh!!!

DIFFERENT DAY (supposedly) – SAME SHYTE (storm in a teacup)!!!

Don’t know about you, BIG BRUV* but I’m “EXHAUSTED” (there seems to be more “ACTION” on the “WAR-FRONT” in the Middle East (AS TRAGIC AS THE MADNESS IS), seeing the “FOLLY” of men who believe “STINKING LOADS OF “unearned” WEALTH”, “PRESTIGE” & “AFFLUENZA” somehow provides a shield, buckler & rampart against the prevailing windz that are blowing!!!

    I DON’T KNOW!!!

I’ve “RESIGNED” anyway from postmodern life & all it entails & thankfully finds “SOLACE” in things “MOST” find will stretch their cerebral cortex & challenge their “MATCHBOX” brains!!!

At this juncture in time & @ such a critical moment in human history, there’s more fascination in playing with “COMPOSTED PLANT MATERIAL” aka “DIRT” & some cow/horse/sheep manure – while watching the ecological time-lapse of plants growing in “NANOBYTES” increments, than to watch “HUMANS” do a bunch “SHYTE” – ALL DAY – EVERYDAY, yet somehow believing that it a good way to waste a precious life that has been bequeathed to them by “THE MOST HIGH YAH”!!!

But then, that maybe a “SYMPTOM” of greying (ALMOST WHITE/SILVER) hair & as the Scripture opine – “HAVING A HOARY HEAD”, emblematic of the wisdom of the ancient “ZAKEN!!!

The “OLE’ WORLD ORDER” is now in rigor mortis & there will be no coming back!!!

AGAIN, NO HUMAN FIGURE IS COMING TO SAVE THE MASSES FROM THE MADNESS

We chose to be on our own through this debacle – “SINK OR SWIM”!!!

  8. Going you ask?

Boss we there already don’t lets dress up where we are. Deadly shootings daily, roads a mess with drivers doing as they like, tint law not being enforced, thousands driving without insurance and on I could go.

Now the state ain’t setting no example nor doing no better either. Poor enforcement of road traffic laws, allowing this gun crime to go unabated, lack of ensuring audited financials for ALL state entities are up to date and again on I could go. In short the state is showing no real attempt to curtail what we are living in, which seems to be little Baran. They also are not setting an example of adherence to their own corporate rules either. CAIPO will fine a private entity $10 a day for every day their annual returns are filed late. For those that don’t know, CAIPO is the state owned entity for enforcing corporate adherence to ALL entities in the private sector. Of course government entities do not fall under their policing. You imagine if the NIS had to pay $10 a day for every year they are behind on filing up to date financials, how much they would owe!

In the elections what did we hear? It basically was party time and promises of great freeness ahead. I to be honest, have seen little introduced and ENFORCED that will bring changes to all mentioned above either. So based on all this where do you think we really are?

  9. As the Sargassum seaweed takes hold and becomes unmanageable, you will have no tourists while the UWI play about with silly uses that cannot possibly be used in great enough quantities to solve the problem. Last year, 32 million tons arrived in the Caribbean; this year 60 million tons are estimated and next year and every other year a 50% increase. Barbados will be buried under it, and it will stink up the whole island. There is an answer, and UWI are refusing to act on that because they want to continue having their students working on how to make use of it. They have let Barbados down and will be responsible for the death of your tourist industry.

“Is Barbados going to the dogs?”

This title as a Question could be labeled click bait and the Author/Editor should reword it as Statement of Fact such as “Barbados is going to the dogs” or “Barbados is Babylon” etc

When you quickly scroll down the page to read BTL comments some sentences or phrases in ATL narrative may sometimes catch your eye and require a response or a comment, which is not necessarily a rebuttal of the entire article. For example “The stinking smell of weed that offends the nostrils at every turn, ..”. I thought the holy herb was legal in the Little Island for Jah Jah Children, so I don’t know why this author has got her frilly knickers all twisted up inside her holes, it’s a mystery.

  13. We should allow our Supreme Leader a little more time… After the fifth 30:0 at the latest, all citizens will have a chip implanted in their brains so that our beloved government can better understand and control its citizens. Something similar recently came up in the ‘Fallout’ series.

In general, I would like to note a fluctuating opinion on the subject of dictatorial rule. On the one hand, our comrades-in-arms at BU do not want to live under a dictatorship, but on the other hand, they lament our beloved government’s ‘fear’ of the people and the resulting lack of enforcement of the law. Somehow, this does not add up. Either we have security, stability and a ‘controlled society’ à la Singapore, or we have insecurity, instability and Jamaican conditions.

Your conclusions are always the same. They spring from a single narrative, regardless of the presence of a wide and growing range of variables.

That narrative springing from blessings of dubious origins and dovetailing with unavoidable suffering continues to be a tad tawdry.

  22. BREAKING: 2026 SUMMER SEASON MAYBE A COMPLETE WASHOUT WITH REPURCUSSIONS FOR TOURIST DESTINATIONS, HOTELIERS & THE DEPENDANT INDUSTRIES

1000s of “FLIGHTS” cancelled, as airlines are “RE-ROUTING ALL THEIR FLIGHTS” carrying extra fuel, and those making stops to refuel!!!

Shares of parents company of British Airways down 6%; Easyjet down 4% as airlines review their expansion plans!!!

Investor confidence in the sector has plummeted. Airline stocks around the world have taken an absolute beating – especially in Europe where Air France-KLM shares dropped nearly 9%, and Lufthansa fell 6%!!!

in Asia-Pacific, Qantas shares plunged as much as 10.4%, while Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Japan Airlines all saw drops of around 5%!!!

In the US, airlines, which have less direct exposure to Middle Eastern routes, saw their stocks fall 3% – 6% due to concerns over fuel prices!!!

Zacks Investment Management warned that higher fuel costs could reduce airline earnings by 15-20%…

Airlines are grappling with aircraft and crew stranded far from their home bases. This logistical nightmare will complicate recovery efforts even after airspace reopens!!!

With the direct route over the Middle East closed and Russian airspace already off-limits for many Western carriers due to the Ukraine war, airlines are forced onto a narrow, congested northern corridor via Turkey and the Caucasus. A flight from Hong Kong to London, for example, is now taking 1.5 to 2 hours longer!!!

Experts estimate that each additional hour of flight time can cost over $12,000 in fuel and crew costs alone!!!

Jet fuel is an airline’s single biggest expense, typically accounting for 20-30% of operating costs . Oil prices have spiked dramatically—Brent crude rose 13% in a single day—and analysts predict it could climb to $100 per barrel if the conflict continues…

The combination of increased fuel costs, rerouting, and higher insurance will inevitably lead to higher ticket prices for consumers, potentially dampening long-term travel demand !!!

While the duration of the conflict is the biggest unknown variable, the evidence clearly shows that airlines are in significant trouble, facing immediate operational paralysis and the threat of lasting structural change to the global aviation map!!!

  24. Some dogs of war are the worst of breed.

Five or six days since Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei was selected by the Council of Experts no public appearances, no speeches, only the recycling of old photos on state media.

Reports are that he too was injured in the criminal American bombing of his father’s home. Other reports suggest he was injured on the first day of the illegal war on Iran. Of course, Mojtaba, in additional to his father and mother, he also loss his son, his wife, his brother-in-law, his sister. Only such a conjecture could explain Mojtaba’s absence so long.

In his absence the IRGC appears to be in full control of the military effort. That struggle has escalated since the death of the martyr Khamenei. That escalation sees two-thousand pound bombs bombarding the Zionist state on an ongoing basis while their partners in crime, the USA, are begging for a ceasefire or a cessation in hostilities.

Such begging by America are being met with stout rejections. Iran wants the total and complete destruction of the Zionist state, it’s uprooting from the region, as the only means by which real security, undivided security, could ever be established in the West Asian region.

In addition, Iran is insisting on war reparations, reparations for losses sustained over 46 years because of sanctions, the ouster of the Americans, their embassies, their military bases, the closure of American embassies and that no future military bases are reconstructed, in the entire West Asian region ever again.

But for Iran, in the absence of both Khameneis, the layered leadership structure are mauling the enemies as the Zionist state is being flattened, early warning systems destroyed, and where existential blows are being delivered, day and night, to the Epstein Class.

The Iranians, like the aggressors, have begun to target the leadership of the Zionist state as well. Other reports suggest that Netanyahu, who like Mojtaba, has been out of sight for days, leading some to speculate that that dog too may be dead. We’re told that Netanyahu’s brother was killed and Netanyahu injured. Ben Grvir was also believed to have been targeted as well.

    The dogs of war!

There is nothing wrong with having a belief system. In fact it is at the core to what drives individuals to excel. Some of us believe in a greater being based on our life experiences and the environment that shaped us. That said, valuing the difference in people is the best gift the creator has given us.

  29. Not so long ago a member of the discredited DLP, informed his party that he would resign from his post, if the then Prime Minister, Mr Stuart, refused to accept payment from the UAE which would have wiped out Barbados entire debt. This minister shares a history with a BLP member in an unsavoury incident that took place in Barbados hallowed parliament.

I have argued for years that Barbados should not engage with the rogue state called the UAE. It is a sponsor of money laundering, the transhipment of weapons, the illegal mining of minerals in weak African countries, made weaker with the backing and funding of mercenaries at the behest of the UAE.

And yet, our glorious prime minister decided that she would enter into a diplomatic relationship with this rogue nation . She even encouraged her people to find work in this region. Surely she must know that these Arabs treat blacks like chattel.

And has your thinking not given us thousands of conceptions of the so-called creator?

Has that thinking not been the fountainhead for racism, classism, sexism, imperialism, colonialism, slavery, capitalism and the like?

Is it not possible that everything around us is creator, like the most ancients proposed?

Show us one peer reviewed piece of evidence which you have depended upon as ‘scientific’ proof of a singular creator as you here posit?

Is it not possible that instead of the hierarchical constructions which are so deeply inbuilt within your DNA that everything around us is still in a process of construction, just like the universes have never, for 14 billion years, ceased to keep expanding?

The U.S. is decimating the radical Iranian regime’s military in a way the world has never seen before,” the defense secretary boasted at a Friday morning press briefing. “We said it would not be a fair fight, and it has not been.”

To date, more than 15,000 Iranian targets have been hit, obliterating the nation’s air defenses, air force, and navy, while its missile capabilities have plummeted by 90 percent, Hegseth said. He then warned Friday will be the most intense day of U.S. strikes on Iran to date.

“Iran’s leadership is in no better shape. Desperate and hiding, they’ve gone underground, cowering. That’s what rats do,” Hegseth said. The former Fox News host described Iran’s new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, as the “so-called not-so-supreme leader” who is “wounded and likely disfigured.

HOWEVER ONLY FOOLS ARGUE WITH FOOLS.

SO WILL LET YOU ARGUE ALONE WITH YOURSELF.

  37. Because this list of assholes served in somebody’s army, like you did, does not equate to knowing anything about real military science. That is not their job!

Pete Hegseth maybe respected by you but only an asshole would have led America, a weak country without any military industrial potential to speak of into a war, that they were warned by a number of the very top brass, that they could not win is why they are currently trapped in Iran to serve the blackmailer of Donald Trump who is Netanyahu.

We think it was general Keen who told them that they could never defeat Iran, unless of course nuclear weapons are deployed. Indeed, America, your America, has not won a war since the invasion of the Philippines, except for Grenada and even then they lost five special forces soldiers by drowning as they attempted to enter Grenada.

We’re sure that both Austin, if he ain’t dead, and Mattis, having left the military, are now making a lot of money sitting on the boards of military companies like Lockheed Martin, Halliburton etc. These criminals fail to garner the respect of real fighting men.

You are obviously in love with the White people’s systems of war. What you never came to know is that an asswipe like Austin did what is so necessary within the culture of the US military to rise to four-star general status – telling the politicians in Washington what they wanted to hear. It’s about being a yes man, serving corporations best to enter the revolving door between the military and the boards of directors of the large arms makers.

These are a few of the reasons why America has not won a war since the invasion of the Philippines in 1898. In short, the top brass serves the businesses of the military industrial complex. Making people like you, only cannon fodder.

Why did you not mention the commander in chief, Donald Trump himself, who got five deferments because of ‘bone spurs’ to avoid enlistment for the Vietnam War? None of his family will ever join the US military. Only less ‘worthy’ lives are sent to fight in what Smedly Butler fittingly called war as a ‘racket.’

  39. @TLSN

What does your research tell you about how money is laundered in the USA and the UK?

  40. @Bush Tea

The very definition of a belief system is how you described. Until time proves otherwise, it is what it is. Here is what cannot be refuted and supported almost everyday in this space- rational arguments will not resonate with perspectives steeped in a belief system – as you correctly pointed to Trump. Such positions will be defeated with the attrition of time until another with the support of superior resources and (intellect?) wins the lead.

  41. Your argument suggests a constantcy of state. That no maximalist events will ever overcome the ranges of variables we are so use to.

For there maybe a point in the future where all known tendencies are overcome by events or combination of circumstances we’ve never experienced before.

Indeed, the degeneration of the capitalist culture as represented by a Drumpf, who titularly has three more years left, may very well land us all in a place from whence there is no re-establishment of traditions of normalcy or ranges of acceptable social cultures.

And whereas, your position has always been the norm, is most likely to maintain being so, we sense that the world of tomorrow will be, either for better or worse, very different than we’ve seen hithertofore. In other words something fundamentally different is in the ether! Weee must consult an Obeah Woman for a reading!

  42. @ David
There is a REALITY out there that trumps all possible ‘belief systems’.

    For example:
In a matter of a few months, life in Brassbados (and in the whole world) will become a living Hell.
That is a now unavoidable REALITY, based on all logical analyses of current trends.

Many of us CHOOSE to believe that somehow ‘things will settle down’
Pacha has chosen to believe that we will all be mushroomed into dust…
GP and his crowd chooses to believe that they will be ‘raptured’…
Most on BU have chosen not to vote any more – in protest

ANYONE can believe ANY shiite… and be in good company…!
HOWEVER come August, we will ALL face the IDENTICAL situation… and THAT REALITY is what counts.

    So here is the question…
Which ‘belief system’ do you think Bushie will adopt?
Not the one that is MOST LIKELY to mimic REALITY?

Not the one that has PROVEN itself over the last 4000 years of history?
The one that has ACCURATELY predicted that history – step by step?
The one that was INITIATED and GUIDED by the Creators themselves?

…or should Bushie just follow sweet-talkers such as Pacha?
…or John A – and not ALWAYS VOTE against ALL shiite…?

Belief systems are just convenient intellectual TRAPS that discourage SERIOUS analysis of REALITY.
    Wunna could choose wunna pick….
    But not stinking Bushie!!!

And the other perspective that you have conveniently omitted is those that live in hope. Those that will believe in the ingenuity of man and the ability to adapt. Keep hope alive Bush Tea.

“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

    In other words…
We ought to consider the LONG TERM SPIRITUAL realities as defined by the spiritual Creators themselves, of the TEMPORARY physical shiite that our LIMITED senses are able to see and hear.
Because, while the temporary physical contents of ‘our cauldron’ had a beginning and will come to an end… the SPIRITUAL realities that are beyond our limited senses exists BEYOND the boundaries of time and space…
(Making Pacha’s question about ‘who created the Creators?’ laughable…)

    LOL
Just so you know what THAT means Boss…

    @ Pacha
